Work Text:
You walked out of class, happy for the day to finally be over. It’s not like you hated being a teacher, it’s actually quite the opposite. You loved teaching new things to kids, loved their enthusiasm and their liveliness. Still, today you didn’t have the energy to keep up with them as usual. You had spent almost the whole night reading (a really interesting) book that you couldn’t put down, and missed your alarm in the morning which had you running around the apartment to get ready. You arrived late to school for the first time in your career after missing the bus, only to discover that your shirt had a coffee stain that you were sure wasn’t there when you left.
Needless to say, you did not start the day on a good note.
You left the school with your friend and colleague, Casey, and you both decided to take a walk in the park. It was a slightly chilly day in London, but the fresh air was really helping clear your mind. Casey and you made idle conversation, though you ended up listening to her talk. Casey had ADHD, so she sometimes rambled on, hands flailing around, and switching from one topic to another. That was when you noticed the figure sitting alone on a bench.
Steven was sitting on a bench, across from where you were standing. He was looking down to his hands that were fiddling with the sleeves of his jacket. You found yourself wondering what caused him to sit outside in the cold, clearly conflicted. You knew he had work today at the museum, so for him to be here, he must have finished early.
When you turned to Casey, who had stopped talking at this point, she gave him an understanding nod, to which you returned with a smile and a wave. She hurried off to go home, muttering about working on her night cheese. You shook your head, and took the last steps to Steven and sat to his right. When he didn’t look up, you took one of his hands and held it gently.
“Love? Is everything alright?” You asked softly. You didn’t want to push, but you knew something was wrong. You gave him a small smile when he looked at you.
“Yeah, I’m good. Just um” he bit his lip. You noticed his voice shaking and the redness of his eyes. You gripped his hand harder when you realized he had been crying.
“Are you ok? Did something happen at work?” You inquired, worried about him. You started scanning him for cuts, bruises or any other injuries. “Did someone harass you? If so, tell me, and I’ll deal with them.”
Steven couldn’t help but let out a smile. You were always protective of him. You tended to his needs, being so nice and attentive that Steven couldn’t help but feel flustered.
“No, no. No one harassed me.” Steven gently lifted your hand to his lips, and kissed your knuckles.
“Then what happened?” You narrowed your eyes, wondering what made you upset, and how you can fix it.
“It was just Donna. Called me Stevie, said I was useless.” Steven shrugged like it was no big deal. “Said I was worth less than rubbish, and how could anyone be with me. And…”
You glared ahead, anger building in your chest during your short story. Your jaw clenched so tight you could practically hear your teeth breaking.
“And what?” You tried not to let your anger show in your voice, but it still slipped out in some way. You pursed your lips when Steven hesitated to answer. You didn’t want to make him feel worse.
“I think she’s right. I mean– I’m a nobody, Y/N. I don’t even know why you’re with me.” He leaned back, and swallowed thickly before continuing. “I’m nothing special. Not worth having someone as brilliant as you. You deserve—” Before he could finish, you all but snapped.
“That’s enough” You interrupted, frowning sternly at him.”I don’t want you speaking about yourself this way.” You put your hand on his cheek gently, but firmly. “You are the sweetest, kindest, and most selfless person I’ve ever met. I love you, and I’m happy that I’m your boyfriend. I wouldn’t want anybody else.”
Steven looked at you with wide eyes, and a bit of awe. You felt a blush spreading across your cheek, but continued to hold his gaze.
“You shouldn’t focus on what Donna says.” You held out a hand to help him stand up. You wrapped an arm around his waist and led him out the park. “I mean, she still hasn’t fixed the Ennead sign.”
Steven couldn’t help but laugh at the last part and lean into your side. “I did tell her there were nine deities in the Ennead, but she didn’t listen.” You always knew how to cheer him up. He already felt better, especially with you by his side.
“So, you’re feeling better?” You tried to be sarcastic so as to not sound pushy, but Steven could see the genuine concern in your eyes, and he smiled shyly at you.
“Yeah, I am. Thank you.”
You grinned and pressed a soft kiss on his lips. “ Then how about we head to your apartment? We could do a bit of snuggling and snogging–” you wiggled your eyebrows.
Steven burst into giggles. You complained. “Hey! I’m trying to be romantic.” Steven was worried you were actually upset, but your wide grin dissuaded him. With a roll of your eyes, you continued. “I could show you just how much I adore you.”
“You’re so cheesy,” Steven replied cheekily. It wasn’t long before you arrived at Steven's apartment.
Once he stepped in, You grabbed him, pushed him against the door before it even fully closed, and slammed your lips against his. You gently cupped his cheek, completely different to how you were nipping at his lip. Steven whimpered into the kiss and wrapped his arms around your waist.
You grinded your hips into his, and he responded by gripping tightly onto the back of his shirt. Steven moaned- you still haven’t done anything sexual beyond making out shirtless and a few handjobs, so Steven was still a bit inexperienced. You managed to slip your tongue inside and thoroughly explored his mouth, and after a while, you slowly pulled back.
Your eyes admired his swollen lips and flushed cheeks and bashful grin. You reached up, and ran your thumb along his lips.
You pulled him to you and hugged him protectively. You smiled when Steven melted into you, and planted a soft kiss on his forehead. “God, I wish you could see just how beautiful you are.” You purred in his ear, and felt him shiver.
“C’mon, love. Let’s get you something to eat.”
