do you know who the fuck you just pushed out of the way?

Summary:

"Do you know who the fuck you just pushed out of the way?"

Denki bites back a snort.

"I don't think so."

Deku follows hero fights even while being the Number One. Sometimes, he gets in the way. And, sometimes, reporters don't like that.

Notes:

Inspired by a TikTok by @nikkikavali that everyone wanted a fic for and I said, "well, I have an idea, so why not," because I am a sloot for finding a way to keep characters, well, in character. It's a hobby and I'm only a teeny bit ashamed.

I personally don't think Deku would go feral about it, but perhaps a little... pointed. He knows who he is, after all. But irrefutably, Bakugo wouldn't just sit back.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The fight was hard won. Minor injuries, no casualties, and almost zero property damage. And for Dynamight and Chargebolt, two of the most destructive heroes quirk-wise - Chargebolt had too often shut down streets in large fights - it was a feat worthy of notice.

Reporters were jumping at the chance to shove their mics in the heroes faces.

Seeing Dynamight pause and actually talk to a civilian post-fight, sweaty and covered a soot yet willing to stand there and share a few words with a fan, it sends the media scrambling, trying to see if they too could get a word in, a question, hell, even an autograph.

For being the Number Two Hero, Dynamight sure didn't do publicity.

(The civilian's large in their own right. All muscle and, even being shorter than Dynamight, they almost stand as equals. It's... weird, especially for the Number Two hero, but the reporters are desperate.)

Some reporters are polite, some hover far too close, microphones at the ready, waiting for the civilian to stop gushing over-

"-that attack! Have you worked on your AP shot? I haven't seen that before! And you kept the damage away from that building. Did you know they hadn't fully evacuated? I was on my way to pick up Kota but I just had to stop by. Especially you, Chargebolt! Did Hatsume-san upgrade your gauntlet? I haven't seen you too much but you and Dynamight really-"

"He-llooooo!" And the reporter shoves. Bodily. One hand lands on the civilians arms (thick arms, abnormally so, someone that goes to the gym regularly) and, while they don't stumble, they do move, a gasp, a short step back, head tilting up - the reporter's taller but not that much, only a few inches, enough so they can't really see the civilian's face from under the lip of their hat - and they huff in irritation as they shove a mic right in Dynamight's face, almost hitting the hero in the nose.

(They miss how Chargebolt freezes, stock-still, eyes wide in disbelief before his brows slowly raise, mischief dancing in their eyes and lip twitching into a Cheshire grin.)

Before the reporter can get a word out, Dynamight inflates with rage, shoulders raising and teeth grinding. His eyes flash, bright in the shadow of his bangs and the shroud of his mask. "Do you know who the fuck you just pushed out of the way?"

He's seething and the reporter stutters for a moment, eyes wide and snapping to Chargebolt when he snorts.

One hand's covering Chargebolt's mouth as the other wraps around himself, trying his absolute best (and failing) to not outright laugh (that would break the scene, after all, and he'd really, really like to see this play out.)

"I don't think so."

A light laugh behind the reporter catches their attention and they almost don't turn, almost.

And then someone in the crowd gasps, a sound of shocked horror, and the reporter spins just in time to catch how that stocky, rambling civilian takes off their Uravity-themed hat - a horrid fashion choice with the Cellophane jacket and Red Riot crocs and- and are those Ingenium joggers? - and-

and has curly, green hair and an iconic smattering of freckles and a sort of smirk on their face that is a perfect mix of cinnamon roll sweetness, sheep understanding, and an amused sort of 'really?' twisting their lips.

"I know I'm off duty but, well-" he snorts, scarred fingers playing with the pink and black of his hat, "you'd think being the Number One Hero would make you more recognizable."

"You'd think a fucking reporter would know how to spot you thanks to your shitty ass fashion sense," Dynamight growls and the reporter turns, hands trembling and fingers numb, only held together by the familiar weight of that microphone (oh God, were they gonna get fired? They just pushed Deku, they-)

"Bet this fucker couldn't ask a question half as good as your shitty rambling." The reporter stills, lungs stuttering as the towering form of Dynamight, dark and dangerous and still smoking from the battle, looms over them, a shadow of muscle and power and anger.

"Go easy on them, Kacchan, they got excited."

The reporter gets the vague sense that Dynamight and Deku play good cop-bad cop too often. Whereas Dynamight enjoys making people feel like little more than dirt under his shoes, Deku likes to pick them up, pat them down as if they were a toddler, and make them feel small and cared for, but still small.

It makes the reporter's breathing grow shallow, throat tight.

(Chargebolt can't help but snicker, stepping back but watching with too-attentive eyes.)

"It's alright," Deku says with a smile and the reporter can just tell that he means it, he does, but he's also so utterly amused, laughing behind his eyes, enjoying the fallout from his mistakes in a sort of sadistic way that no one would believe.

(Deku? Sadistic? Never.

Yeah, they can already feel their desk, heavy in a box in their hands.)

The reporter runs away, tail between their legs, everyone giving them a wide berth of space while Dynamight curses in the background and Chargebolt leads them off the scene.

"You guys ganged up on the poor thing, you monsters!"

"That's what the fucker gets, shoving Deku out of the- why the fuck did you let him?"

Deku smirks.

"I thought it'd be funny."

They blink at him.

"You are evil!"

"Damn Deku!"

"What?" He says (and it would be innocent but there's a knowing gleam in his eye that makes the other two cackle.)

Everyone watches, gobsmacked and silent as the three heroes laugh, disappearing down the street.

(The reporter doesn't quite get fired but they do get demoted away from any sort of high-scale hero fights, just in case Dynamight would hold a grudge.

Spoiler: He would, and he does.

And, if later, the reporter finds themselves at a Deku hero fight and then Deku smirks at them before curtly answering questions, they learn that Deku doesn't forget either.)

FML I can't believe I need a TikTok series but here we go.
