in the fires of our youth (oh, brother of mine)

Summary:

Regulus Black has not seen his older brother in seven years. He's perfectly accepted the fact that he'd been abandoned to the wrath of their parents and is content to be in a world in which he never has to see Sirius again.

They both got out, eventually. What does it matter that it wasn't together?

Regulus has his own life, now, a best-friend-slash-flatmate that he would die and kill for and a job at a planetarium that he loves. He's sure that his brother is off living happily somewhere; so there is really no need for their paths to intersect.

Fate, in the form of two concert tickets and a flatmate with a celebrity crush, has other plans.

Notes:

(HELLO IF YOU'RE HERE FROM TIKTOK ILY)

I posted a haphazard hypothetical tiktok with the concept for this fic right before going into a six hour shift at my job. To my surprise, upon clocking out, it had kind of blown the fuck up. And the numbers just... kept rising. I was in love with the idea, but seeing the reception was the push I needed to actually get started.

It took some time to get this out, but I am hopeful that it was worth the wait and grateful to everyone who stuck with me for it. This is my first foray into any variety of marauders fic, and I know I'm probably a bit blurry on some of the characterization but one thing I love about this weird little fandom subsect is that you really can just make shit up. So, here is my shit! I hope you enjoy it.

Fic name and all chapter titles are from the song 'Brother' by Madds Buckley, which I openly allow Sirius, James and Peter to steal for themselves in this fic ;)

Disclaimer: I don't own these characters, but fuck the person who does~

Chapter 1: prologue: it's been a long, long time

Chapter Text

IMAGE TRANSCRIPT:

An article from a tabloid, dated April 16, 2022. The headline reads:

“Spotlight Artists: Padfoot & Prongs, Breaking their Silence.”

There is a photo of Sirius Black (fanart by @pestoprongs on instagram) and a text box to the right of it that reads:

“It was a shock to fans when alternative pop duo Padfoot & Prongs announced their hiatus in the December of 2021, shortly after the conclusion of their first headlining tour across venues in Europe. Their success as a band had been sudden and, according to lead vocalist, Sirius Potter, unexpected but not unwelcome. The trajectory of their careers seemed to be directed in only one direction: up. It shocked their audience to hear, via a tweet from guitarist James Potter, the two would be going on a hiatus for an undetermined amount of time. The reasons for this abrupt break were varied: from needing to step back and take things at their own pace to wanting to focus on releasing their third studio album at a quality and honesty that they could be proud of.”

To the bottom right is a photo of James Potter (fanart by @pestoprongs on instagram) beside a text box to the left that reads:

“Even more shocking than their sudden break was their even-more-sudden revival, as both Sirius and James, (as well as their drummer, Peter Pettigrew) took to social media to announce their appearance in a show to be held at the end of April. It is a one-night-only event, and all proceeds are going to be donated to ECA , an organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse worldwide. "They reached out," James said, "and it was an immediate yes from us." Many other artists have also pledged their support to ECA and begun announcing individual concerts in support of the cause. When asked for further comment about the shock of their return, Sirius said, "Some causes are too important to miss."

In between the two photos is a quote that reads:

"This isn't a return to the stage for good just yet. It can be a reminder that we're here, and we aren't going anywhere. (James Potter)”
