Chapter Text
"Okay, so family meeting." Sasha said, clearing her throat as the three of them sat around the coffee table. There was a palpable tension among them, "We've brought up the subject a few times and now feels like an appropriate time to just discuss it together." There was a pause. Marcy tapped her hands on the table absently as Anne's eye darted between Sasha and Marcy hopefully. Sasha took a breath, "Alright. So about the idea of having kids," She paused awkwardly, "Let's just be open and honest. I'd like to go over, well, everything. Anne, do you want to start?"
"Yes," Anne said quickly as she put both her hands down on the table. She reached across it to take Sasha and Marcy's hands in each of her own, "I was thinking, since you know, we're in a good place financially and relationship-wise, we think about growing our family. I love both of you so much and I really want your input on this."
"I mean, that would be nice, but I kinda want to go over logistics first." Marcy said, giving Anne's hand a squeeze. Sasha nodded.
"Exactly," Sasha said, "Kids are a big responsibility and things would naturally have to change around here."
"Is there anything in particular that you are worried about?" Anne asked with concern.
"Ooo good point," Marcy interjected, "We'd have to baby-proof the apartment and figure out who would be in charge of watching the kid with each of our work schedules. Then I suppose we'd have to research daycares and preschools."
"Yeah, those are really valid points," Sasha nodded as blush crept across her face, "And like also, we couldn't, you know," Sasha fumbled with her words as Anne looked at her with an eyebrow raised, "-We can't keep fucking like rabbits once we have a kid."
"That's what you're worried about?" Anne said as she suppressed a laugh.
"It's still a valid point!" Sasha argued, "Listen, I'm not opposed to the idea, I just think there is a lot to consider before making such a big choice. Like first of all, who's gonna carry the kid? How many kids do we want? And there is absolutely no way the two of us can be pregnant at the same time." She motioned between herself and Marcy.
"That's totally fair." Anne said quickly.
"I mean, I guess I'd have to carry the first kid-" Sasha started.
"What? When did we decide that?" Marcy cut in. Sasha took a deep breath.
"No offense Mar-mar but you-" Sasha gestured vaguely, "-kind of struggle to take care of yourself." Anne nodded in agreement.
"What do you mean by that?" Marcy asked defensively.
"You go through like so many energy drinks in a day." Sasha said as she started counting on her fingers.
"I've seen you stay awake for over 72 hours just to finish a webcomic." Anne added.
"You tend to forget things when you're super focused." Sasha continued, "Like not eating, showering-"
"You're still fairly accident prone." Anne said with concern, "And we wouldn't want you or the baby to get hurt."
"Okay! So speaking about hurting themselves and the baby," Marcy pointed to Sasha accusingly, "She'd can't carry until she stops smoking."
"You what?" Anne asked suddenly as she turned to Sasha with a frown, "I thought you already gave up that crap?" Sasha crossed her arms and looked away guiltily.
"Like I had a relapse. It's no big deal." Sasha waved her hand dismissively.
"Sasha!" Anne scolded, "It's a very big deal! You still have an IUD - You shouldn't be smoking! You could have a heart attack or stroke or-!"
"That's like only a risk if I was taking birth control pills." Sasha rolled her eyes.
"No it's not! You're using a hormonal IUD. I read about the side effects and risks." Anne said angrily, "Not to mention the fact that you could develop cancer."
"I don't smoke that much. It's hardly something to worry about." Sasha deflected. Anne stood up suddenly and Sasha was taken aback. Anne was fighting back tears as she glowered down at Sasha. Sasha squirmed under the intensity of the stare, "Anne…" Marcy stood up too and folded her arms. Sasha's face was turning red. "Guys-" Anne took Sasha's hands in both of hers.
"Do you remember 12 years ago?" Anne huffed. Marcy nodded seriously. Sasha blanched at the question.
"Yeah, of course. I mean-" She cleared her throat, "It's kind of hard to forget."
"I-" Anne paused before choosing her words carefully, "I could have died. Do you remember how you and Marcy felt when you thought I had?"
"Shit Anne." Sasha said as she hurriedly wiped away her tears, "I'm sorry. I felt… Fuck." She cursed as she couldn't stop the tears falling down her face. Anne and Marcy pulled her into a tight hug.
"Do you want us to go through that with you?" Marcy asked softly.
"No! No, of course not!" Sasha said as she screwed her eyes shut and held Anne and Marcy close, "I'll quit. I swear." Marcy and Anne kissed Sasha on either cheek.
"You better or I'll keep guilt tripping you." Anne threatened gently. They sat back down and Sasha avoided their eyes.
"Okay so neither Marcy or I are responsible enough to carry a baby right now." Sasha relented, "You'd be the perfect choice but you can't since you're the sperm donor." Anne smiled sadly.
"I can wait. I can wait till either one of you or both of you are ready." Anne said, wiping away a tear.
"Anne," Marcy said, reaching out to hold her hand. She glanced at Sasha and took her hand too, "We'll work on this together."
"But both of you are comfortable with having a baby?" Anne asked, looking between them.
"Absolutely! But I want plenty of time to research and prepare." Marcy said thoughtfully. They looked toward Sasha. She blushed.
"I'd love that. Just give us a little more time to grow." She said sharing a look with both of them.
"I can get started on making a timeframe for us!" Marcy said excitedly.
"What?" Sasha and Anne asked in unison. Marcy waved a hand.
"Like a rough estimate of how long it could take us to be ready. I could factor in how long it would take Sasha to quit smoking and for me to, um, work on taking better care of myself." Marcy blushed, "Oh! And then I could track our ovulation cycles. I bet I could also calculate how many times we'd need to have intercourse a week to increase our chances for success." Anne blushed in embarrassment. Sasha covered her mouth and stared wide eyed at the table. Her face was bright red. Anne saw this and leaned towards Sasha with a mischievous grin.
"Don't you dare." Sasha growled as she fidgeted.
"You're looking pretty flustered there Sash," She teased, "I wonder what you're thinking about, hm?"
"I swear to god Anne-" Sasha said, raising her voice.
"Say Marcy," Anne asked as she turned away to face Marcy, "Do you think doing it everyday, just in case, would better our chances?"
"Oh definitely." Marcy tried to suppress a grin as she noticed Sasha's face, "It's basic statistical probability after all."
"I need some fresh air!" Sasha said, standing up suddenly.
"You better not be sneaking out to have a cigarette." Marcy said, narrowing her eyes.
"I know a healthier alternative you could suck on." Anne said, raising her eyebrows suggestively.
"Okay I'm leaving!" Sasha said as she opened the door and left in a hurry. Anne and Marcy shared a knowing look.
