Work Text:
Steve and Eddie had planned on telling Dustin about the two of them, they just didn’t expect it to be like this.
“So you want me to help Steve Harrington, the guy that was an asshole to me for years, get a girlfriend?” Eddie tries to hold back his laugh.
There were quite a few reasons he wasn’t wanting to fulfill Dustin’s request.
“Come on Eddie, please. I swear it feels like Steve has given up on trying. He hasn’t been out on a date with a girl in a week!”
“Oh is that a new record for King Harrington?”
“Come on man, I know you two have been hanging out! Plus you’re about his age, he doesn’t take me seriously.”
“Well duh, you’re a 14-year-old. No one wants love advice from a guy barely in high school.”
“Hey! Suzie and I are doing just fine! Her family is just very religious.”
“My point stands, you’re not out bagging babes every night, are you?”
“Well… no. That’s why I need your help, Eddie.”
Eddie just shakes his head, “Fine… what plan are you thinking up, oh wise one?”
“Simple, we invite Steve and Robin over to ‘hang out’ then we ditch out and leave the two lovebirds alone.”
Eddie has to stifle a laugh, oh Dustin is very much missing the mark with this plan.
“Okay then… I guess I can help with that. But I’m sure your mommy is not going to enjoy a bunch of teenagers crashing her place. I’ll talk to Steve… I’m sure I can persuade him to have a little get-together at his house.”
Dustin smiles, “Sweet.”
——————
“Not sweet.” Steve groans, falling face-first into the couch.
Eddie just smiles at Steve while Robin is sitting in the chair shaking her head.
“Dustin is still on about you and me getting together?” Robin laughs, “Ugh, either you guys break it to him that you're together or I will have to let him know that I don’t exactly swing that way.”
“I mean it’s one way to tell him, that’s for sure.” Eddie shrugs.
“Oh yes, over an awkward dinner where Dustin is trying to hook us up we just, ‘yeah no, Sike. I’m dating Eddie’ Is that the plan?”
“Yeah… pretty much.” Eddie laughs, “if you don’t want to you guys can just go through the awkward date.”
Steve and Robin look at each other before shaking their heads, they may be friends but they are not doing a stuffy dinner while they’re sure Dustin hides in the bushes to watch.
“Okay then it’s settled, we’re watching a movie here tonight.”
—————-
At 7 pm the doorbell rings and Steve is regretting this plan.
Apparently, Eddie said that they’d come over for dinner and a movie and Dustin would get a call that he had to go home and ask Eddie to take him.
It wasn’t a horrible plan on Dustin’s part. They just had to tell Dustin before he started his plan, simple enough.
Steve opens the door to find Eddie and Dustin standing there. Steve smiles at the two before clearing his throat and stepping to the side.
“Welcome to my humble abode.”
“Nice nice, where’s Robin?” Dustin asks.
Steve flashes a weird look at him, god this kid is eager.
“She’s locking up the video store, she’ll be here shortly.”
“Good, good,” Dustin says, looking around.
“You good, Henderson?” Steve asks as Dustin starts straightening up random stuff around his house.
“Not really, Robin is going to think you live like a slob with your house looking like this.” Dustin then moves over to Steve himself, fiddling with his shirt, “And this shirt is not doing you any justice, go upstairs and try again.”
Steve shoots Eddie a look and Eddie is trying to hold back his laughter, “Yeah no. I’m not doing that.” Steve says pushing Dustin back off him.
“But you have to look good for Robin,” Dustin says.
“How many times do I have to tell you I don’t have a thing for Robin.”
“Oh come on, I get it, she’s not your normal type, she’s nerdy and an outcast and so anti-Steve Harrington. I think she’ll be good for you.”
“But what if I like another… nerdy outcast?” Steve asks, stealing a glance at Eddie.
“Why haven’t you told me about her then?” Dustin asks.
Behind him Eddie was dying laughing, trying his hardest to stifle the sounds.
“Oh boy, screw it.” Steve says, “Take a seat.”
Dustin looks confused as he sits down in one of the kitchen chairs.
Steve paces back and forth for a second before working up the courage to say what he’s about to say. Eddie soon joined him, standing there and waiting for Steve to work up the nerve to do it.
Finally, Steve stops, resting his hands on the table, “I’m dating Eddie.”
Dustin’s face falls, his eyes jumping between the two boys. The seconds of Dustin processing this felt agonizing. Finally, Dustin busts out a big grin, “This is fucking awesome!”
Steve lets out a sigh of relief he didn’t know he was holding in, “so you don’t think less of me?”
“Hell no! I mean come on, you can pull chicks and dudes? That’s cool! And you’re basically my mom with how much you have to watch me and my friends so I guess that means Eddie’s my dad… my dungeon dad.”
“Yeah no.” Eddie laughs at the name.
“I know I know, it’s a work in progress. Cut me some slack. I just found out about you two.” Dustin argues.
“That’s… that’s fair,” Steve argues.
Just then there was a knock at the door. Steve walks over to open the door for Robin.
“Listen up, I found the perfect movie for us to watch.”
“It’s okay Robin, I invited you here under false pretenses. I was trying to hook you and Steve up and well… I may have an error in the plan I didn’t think of.”
Robin groans, “You told him you’re dating without me?”
“You knew?” Dustin asks.
All three of them just nod in unison.
“Assholes,” Dustin grumbles.
“Is this a good time to tell him I like girls?” Robin asks.
“You like what?!"
