Work Text:

"Hey, what day is it?" Flash asked after glaring at his paperwork for a few minutes.

A few league members had gathered in one of the meeting rooms to work on paperwork Batman handed them after one of their missions. It was a simple go in, hit stuff, get out mission that didn't even take them an hour. The paperwork on the other hand...

"It just became April 1st an hour ago eastern time," Superman responded, flipping another page.

Captain Marvel, who had been flipping between doing his paperwork and dozing off for the past hour, shot out of his chair in shock. "What?! No. It can't be the first already. No." His voice was a horrified whisper before switching to something almost determined. "No. Not this year. Someone else deal with them." He buried his face in his hands, groaning. "This day is the worst."

Flash, Superman, and Batman shared a confused look.

"What's wrong, Cap?" Flash asked, zipping over to place a hand on the taller man's shoulder.

"April fools. The worst holiday of the year. Every year I have to deal with all of them at once. Every year they play stupid pranks non stop for the entire day. Every. Year. And I can't stop them," Marvel groaned.

"Who? What kind of pranks? Why can't you stop them?" Flash asked rapid fire.

"My villains. Adam followed me around for an hour repeating everything I said and I couldn't get away because he's just as fast as I am. Sivana kept tricking me into charging things for him. Mister Mind convinced Sivana to pay for a electronic billboard so he could change what it said every hour. Ranging from annoying song lyrics to reasons why everyone should join in on pranking me." Marvel glared at the ceiling. "And that's not even mentioning their combined pranks."

"Oh," Flash said. "My villains tend to just play pranks on each other every year."

"Mine treat today like any other day of the year," Superman chimed.

"Gotham villains have decided that no one can tell them when to play harmless pranks. They each chose a day where they play Gotham wide pranks. Today is the calm before the storm," Batman added, electing to ignore the fact that Calender Man was the one being pranked by the villains today to keep him from commiting actual crimes in order for them to be able to pull off their pranks without being put in jail before they're halfway through setting them up.

"We can help keep damage to a minimum if you'd like?" Flash asked.

"Please? I would do anything to not have all the focus on me," Cap begged.

Hours later

"Batman 01 arrived. Superman 03 arrived. Flash 05 arrived. Captain Marvel 11 arrived."

Flash was covered in dried mud and an orange mystery goo. Superman's hair was so frizzy it was as though he'd spent an hour rubbing a balloon against it. Batman was half drenched and covered in glitter. And Captain Marvel had make-up smeared everywhere as though he'd tripped through a cosmetics factory.

"Woah! What happened to you guys?" Green Lantern asked.

"Never helping you on April Fools again, Marvel. Never," Flash said, voice void of any emotion except shock.

"At least the pranks were all harmless," Superman argued ruefully.

"Marvel's villains happened," Batman replied.

GL whistled low. "Did you get them?"

"They didn't do anything illegal. We were there for damage control," Batman responded.

"I'm just glad it's over. Maybe if I refuse to leave my room next year they won't pull as many pranks," Marvel suggested, moving towards the kitchen area.

"I don't think that will work, but good luck," Flash said before racing towards the decontamination chambers.

With the villains

Mister Mind, Sivana, and Adam lounged in Sivana's living room, chatting about how successful the day had been.

"Do you think he'll attempt to prank us next year?" Sivana asked. "Or perhaps, try to avoid us?"

"Whatever he does, we have a plan for it," Adam replied, a satisfied grin on his face. "It will be a shame when I finally kill him."

"Right. When I kill him, we won't be able to mess with him any more." Sivana grinned.

"What makes either of you believe yourselves capable of killing the brat?" Mister Mind asked.

This question caused the group to devolve into bickering and shouting, revealing the reason they couldn't work so seamlessly when trying to kill Marvel.
