Work Text:

"No I am not playing your little nerd game I'm sorry." Steve huffed out. He was sitting on his couch in the living room of his large, usually empty house, with his arm around Eddie Munson. They  were  having a peaceful evening watching The Breakfast Club, something Eddie was not enjoying but Steve was when Eddie mentioned that he was starting a new campaign for Hellfire and jokingly said Steve should join.

Until he wasn't joking.

"Why not! It'll be so much fun! I'll teach you how to play! Eddie whined pulling away from Steve's embrace to look him in the eye.

"Because even if you teach me I still won't know what I'm doing! Also, I don't go to Hawkins anymore! I'm not a student! Why would they let me in Eddie?" Steve said with a disapproving look.

"Because you love me so much and you'd do anything for me," Eddie said leaning closer to Steve's face with a cheeky smile.

"Uh-huh."

"Or maybe instead of you doing a full campaign, I could make you do a little one-shot. In Wheeler's basement or something." Eddie said shrugging his shoulders.

Steve admired how adamant Eddie was being and he thought it was really adorable. He loved it when Eddie talked about things he loved. The way his eyes lit up and largely gestured his hands was endearing. And he'd do anything to see Eddie that happy all the time. Giving into Eddie and playing his little nerdy game to see his beautiful face a little more wouldn't be that bad when Steve thought about it.

"Ugh fine. You tell me how to play the game and don't make me look stupid." Steve said pointing at Eddie.

"I would never," Eddie said teasingly then leaning in to give Steve a quick kiss.

A little more than halfway through the film Steve got up from his spot on the couch making Eddie shift positions. "Want anything from the kitchen?" Steve asked. "Nope."

"Hey, Steve?"

"What's up?" Steve said, grabbing a glass from one of the cupboards.

"Where are your parents now?"

"Um, Miami? I think?" Steve's parents were around less and less as Steve got older. At first, Steve hated it. He hated being alone in his house. But now he sort of loves it. He can have Eddie whenever without judgment. Or he can have any of the kids over without his parents questioning why he's friends with fourteen-year-olds.

"Y'know you think they should be around more. This big house is meant for more than one person. And they should definitely be around to see their son." Eddie said disappointed. Eddie hated Steve's parents. He had never admitted it to the other boy, but he hated them. Eddie had heard about how when they found out Steve didn't get into college, they practically made him live on his own leaving him with no support. He heard about how Steve's father was never proud of Steve's achievements or how his mother never defended her son when her husband insulted Steve. He resented them. He would never tell Steve though. He didn't want to worry him. He'd just want to be there for when Steve knocks on the door of his trailer tears staining his cheeks telling him about how his father kicked him out when he came back from his many vacations.

"Yeah you think they would but they really don't care anymore. I don't either. Maybe I'll just sell this house and get a smaller one that fits me because I'm the one paying the bills now. Steve said looking down sadly as Eddie walked over.

"I'd punch 'em if I were you," Eddie said as he wrapped his arms around Steve's back and resting his chin on the others shoulder.

"Could you?"

"Gladly," Eddie said planting a kiss on Steve's cheek with a smile.

Nearing the end of the film Eddie's head was on Steve's lap as he ran his fingers through Eddie's long hair.

"Steve?"

"Yeah?"

"Are you any good at chemistry?"

"What?" Steve quirked up an eyebrow.

"Are you good at chemistry because if I fail that class I'm gonna be stuck redoing senior year again," Eddie explained in a way that seemed like Steve should already know this information.

"Um, I-I'm alright. Mediocre." Steve got a C+ in chemistry.

"Do you think you can help me? Because there's one final test and like I said I cannot fail this." Eddie pleaded sitting up from Steve's lap.

"Uh- I can try. I bet I still have some flashcards Nancy gave me a while back. Steve shrugged his shoulders. He had forgotten almost everything he learned from high school. He found it pointless. Why did he need to know how cells divide? He wasn't going to be a scientist or anything.

The film ended and Steve and Eddie went upstairs to look for the old flashcards.

"Check under my bed they might be in a box or something," Steve said as he sifted through his desk drawer.

"Alright. Ew Steve pick up your laundry." Eddie said as he picked up an old shirt hiding under the bed and throwing it over his shoulder.

"Oh hey, I've been looking for that," Steve said walking over to pick up the shirt and toss it into his laundry bin.

"Ooo box," Eddie said as he pulled out a pale blue box. He pulled the lid off to uncover pictures of little baby Steve.

"Aww is this you?" Eddie said in an uncharacteristically high-pitched voice.

"What did you find?!" Steve said quickly walking over to where Eddie was seated on the floor.

"Why do you have your baby photos under your bed?" Eddie said laughing as he looked through the pictures.

"I think my mom out that there for some reason now stop looking at those please!" Steve said as he snatched away the box from Eddie and his face started to turn pink.

"Aww, Stevie don't be embarrassed." As Eddie wrapped his arms around Steve's neck.

"I'm not embarrassed," Steve muttered as he placed the box on his bed.

"Yes, you are," Eddie said with a smile. Steve's face turned pinker as he placed his hands on Eddie's hips. He placed a kiss on Eddie's lips to avoid saying anything. Eddie pulled away and took in the sight of his beautiful boyfriend.  His  beautiful boyfriend. "You were a cute baby. You're just as cute now." Eddie said with another smile. He could never stop smiling around Steve.

"Ughh stopp." Steve groaned. He didn't care that much as he kissed Eddie again and again and again.
