Chapter Text
It was a random Tuesday in October. No different than the Tuesday before and seemingly no different than the one that would come the week after.
Jungkook was on his daily morning jog. The sun had not risen yet and the bitter chill bit at his exposed calves as he ran. He always found this time of day to be the best time to run. He enjoyed the quiet in the streets as the rest of the world slept on. He hardly ever saw anyone on his morning runs. It was a time where he could just breathe. Ignore all the mindless day to day shit like his coursework, his internship, the ever present drama with his best friends, and of course his ex. He can just pop his headphones into his ears and all the thoughts will melt away for these 30 minutes before he has to go back and enter real life again.
He can feel the burning in his calves as he moves into the final stretch in his jog. Another mile or so on this stretch of beach and he’d be back at the dorms at his university and into a hot shower.
He’s so focused on his upcoming destination that he almost misses it.
Later, in his darkest thoughts, there will be moments where he wishes he had.
Nestled there on the beach. Sandwiched between the waves and the sand, something big lay unmoving. Almost indistinguishable from the rocks and kelp surrounding it.
Jungkook stopped in his tracks. His breath sent up wisps of gray as he curiously moved towards the object. As he got closer he could make out the distinct shape of a tail, as well as the blood that covered it and the sand underneath. Shock and nausea flooded his body as images of bloody whales and dolphins he had seen on nature shows on tv invaded his brain. He almost wanted to turn around and jog away but morbid curiosity caused him to step closer until he froze in his tracks, staring down in shock at the boy below him. The boy who’s face looked human but who’s waist ended in a large bloody silver tail.
