Chapter 1: Mourning
Summary:
Ventis sad ASF but Diluc just knows how to take care of his god
Basically pure fluff
Chapter Text
Venti was.. tired. Yeah that was the way to put it. He'd done his singing in front of his statue and at this point was just settled in for a drink at the lovely angels share. But the thought of wine right now for once wasn't.. appealing. It made his stomach turn. So he settled on something that was his second favorite drink, apple cider. He couldn't help his love for the drink after all, apples were one of his favorites. He was a bit caught off guard however to see diluc Manning the bar tonight instead of Charles. Part of him wanted to begin the normal banter maybe try and squeeze a free drink out of him. But at that moment the thought of doing anything that wasn't laying his head on the bar counter sounded dreadful. And so he smiled as best he could with the decades and decades of practice and sauntered up.
"Well hello master Diluc! How are you on this fine day? "
He must've must have noticed something immediately in ventis face though, as he just frowned and went to go and grab a wine. Ventis favorite, a sweet consideration. That was of course before venti spoke still trying to keep the slight cheer to his voice. "Master diluc, do you think I could have the non alcoholic cider this night?" As he spoke he gently tried to slide the coins over not wanting to bother hassling the poor redhead more then necessary. The redhead paused brows furrowed a bit as he turned to venti. He seemed to measure him in a stare for a moment and if venti was willing to lie to himself he would have thought he saw concern buried in the crimson. It was surprising especially on a hard night like this that venti chose something different from the norm and lacking the slight burn of alcohol. But it also wasn't Dilucs job to question the exhausted bard. so he quietly reached and began making the apple cider pointedly ignoring the coins venti set on the counter.
Venti then found himself staring off. Maybe a part of him was lost in the past, maybe the rest of him was still in the present trying to make music out of the noises all around him. What he did know was that before he could think too much about it his head gently laid against the cool counter. Then he felt himself tense as warm fingers gently tapped his hand before sliding him a glass.
He sipped it, slowly as the time blurred past him. Too lost in his own mind he hadn't noticed the rest of the patrons leaving. That was until a warm hand clasped his shoulder and a gentle deep voice spoke, "Venti, may I carry you?" Venti offered a small quirk of the mouth to supply for the teasing he would've sung in a better mood about Diluc being a gentleman. Now he just replied with an affirmative hum and wrapped his arms around the bartenders neck gently. It was odd doing this sober, the only other times being the few times Diluc allowed him to drink his hearts content in celebration. Warmth had flooded against him as he pressed to the carful pyro wielder, feeling a sad pang as he stared at the firey haired winery owner. Even now he could see how young diluc was, and the torment scribbled behind his eyes. He decided not to think much of it, not when the pitter patter of rain threatened in the smell of the air. He mumbled a half hearted warning to Diluc, prompting the tall male to pluck the umbrella up and hold Ventis weight with the other, maybe Venti would've been flustered by the strength if he wasn't curled around the man as if he was the last warmth in a snow storm.
The walk to the winery was silent, no questions of why Venti had acted odd, no false niceties with small talk. Venti only stirred from the warmth when he was placed in the softest bed he'd ever touched. He made a small noise of thanks before the bed dipped, Venti instinctually snuggling into the now much less uprightly dressed man, feeling the warmth much better with only a white nightshirt separating. (And Ventis own clothing.) Diluc brushed his fingers through the dark hair, humming as Venti let himself slump and be drowned by the darkness of sleep.

Venti had been quiet once he'd noticed Dilucs absences from the bar, he knew the day so he wouldn't necessarily claim to be surprised. Yet he found himself having the familiar pull to go find the redhead. So waving goodbye to a rather drunk kaeya (from grief or something else he chose not to think about.) And the rarely seen albedo gently distracting said bluenette with a new discovery he'd come up with.
It didn't take long for him to find the tall male, sitting right under the tree Venti loves to spend time at in Windrise. He didn't comment as he sat next to Diluc, instead pulling out his lyre and gently strumming something, hoping it was soothing. He hummed with it aswell, letting the gentle silence sink in.
It was broken when sharply, he was grabbed and yanked forwards the grieving winery owner with a startled yelp. Venti remained tense, worried he'd angered Diluc somehow when he felt the taller males shoulders begin to shake, muffled sobs against the bards chest being the only needed explanation. seemingly able to understand the need for comfort Venti silently ran his fingers against Dilucs hair, resuming humming softly.
By the time Dilucs breathing had evened and he'd just slumped lightly against the bard it had just began to grow dark, cold seeping into any part of the bard not pressed tight to the pyro user. "Master diluc?" Silence. "Diluc?" A small shiver racked venti as the first droplets of rain poured. He'd probably be alright enough sleeping in the rain but he didn't want diluc sick after the day the winery owner had. Just as he began to fret about how to nicely wake Diluc or if he could manage to carry said man to the winery he felt Diluc shift, warm fingers moving from clasping his back to gently making sure venti wouldn't fall as he stood.
Venti pressed his face to Dilucs neck from the new position, gently fretting about "not needing to be carried." And "you're probably exhausted." Which only fell on deaf ears as Diluc gave him a pointed puffy eyed look. Venti couldn't help the giggle as he gently pressed a kiss right under each eye, then on the winery owners nose. Dilucs face lit in flames within a moment, grumbling as he moved much quicker to get to the winery, either from the need to get away from the teasing ability of Ventis to absolutely pick him apart or because it had began to rain harder.
Dilucs arms were careful as he ran with Venti, trying their best to stave off the cold since he knew the bard wasn't an always warm pyro user.
Venti smiled as he let the steady footsteps lull him, mumbling a soft "he would be proud of you." Before going limp. Tomorrow maybe they'd talk, or maybe they'd just gently banter about what to have for breakfast and venti arguing how apple juice is much better then grape, only time could tell.

Chapter Text
Diluc sighed as he heard the familar slam of the tavern door open and sing song greeting of a bard, only doing a slight pause when he noticed how disheveled and shaken he looked. He opened his mouth to inquire before the bard slipped excitedly into the bar seat. Diluc only raised a brow as venti put on his best puppy eyes "a wine please master Diluc?" He managed a half hearted glare before he began to pour the bard a glass, much to the happy giggling of the bard. However the gentle laughter abruptly stopped with a sharp hitch of breath and hiss of pain, causing Diluc to freeze as he looked at Venti again, frown only deepening by the smile venti tried to front immediately.
He sharply placed the glass before crossing his arms, making sure Venti knew he knew something was wrong. Venti immediately glanced away, wiggling uncomfortable under the seemingly all seeing gaze of the bartender. Finally Diluc cracked, breaking the tense silence "bard." Venti flinched, seemingly thinking he was in some sort of trouble. Diluc huffed and started again, softening his tone. "Venti, what's wrong? Are you injured?" He kept his voice hushed, not trying to broadcast a cute drunk bard being vulnerable to a bunch of drunks, even if they were relatively harmless.
Venti paused, seeming to weigh his options before finally breaking and admitting defeat. "I'll tell you but, we have to be somewhere private." Teal met crimson and Diluc nodded, alerting Charles of his absence before gently grabbing ventis hand and heading to the locked up 3rd floor.
Sitting on the bed, Venti kicked his feet nervously as he spoke. "Promise you won't go to the knights?" Diluc immediately nodded, not like he trusted them with much anyways. Venti let out a breath and nodded. "So I may have had a run in with a harbinger la Signora." At the rapidly darkening expression on Dilucs face he frantically waved his hands. "But it wasn't too bad! She just knocked out the traveler and.." he paused, biting his lip as if he knew the next words from his mouth would anger Diluc. Gentle a much larger hand grabbed his, sharp eyes softening to meet his own. "What is it Venti?" His tone was a lot softer then the look behind his eyes, livid a fatui may try and hurt someone he cares for again. "Ah well, she may have roughed me up a bit-" before he could even finish warm fingers shifted to be ready to begin removing his shirt, red eyes stared anxiously as he asked permission to which Venti nodded.
The silence was tense as Diluc removed the top half of the bards clothing. But Diluc was gentle, he always was. When the sharp purpling bruises were exposed he saw the concern dancing in Dilucs eyes, in his chest was 5 puncture wounds from where she stabbed his fingers into his chest to rip the gnosis out. Diluc was definitely livid, but as for now allowed himself to be content gently treating Ventis wounds, and snuggling the bard most likely would be in order. Especially if he whined about being injured as a reason for diluc to spoil him. Though Diluc didn't need much reason to spoil the archon either way.

Chapter Text
Diluc had been having a terrible day so far, first kaeya deciding to make the fact he stayed at his boyfriend's Dilucs problem by slamming the door open with a chorus of sickeningly sweet goodbyes on the phone at 5 in the god damn morning. (Diluc was a night owl, not at all a morning person, usually his brother shares the sentiment, but the moment the bluenette senses the opportunity to hear a certain pale blondes sleepy voice he's awake or on the phone despite just seeing him. Diluc is growing to despise the gushing.) Then he accidentally fell back asleep and was gonna be late, and it was his turn to worry about groceries this week, and he found himself despising the fact kaeya insisted he buy super specific things for his boyfriend. (But if he kept kaeya happy he wouldn't hold it to them, and he knows albedo keeps kaeya from being too insufferable.)
So of c o u r s e he, while sprinting to class, smashed into a dark haired twink from one of the music classes. He felt like screaming when he felt the tell tell wet feeling of the water bottle smashing in his bag and soaking his papers and business textbook. Maybe he was a bit of a jerk for feeling a bitter satisfaction at the broken lyre on the ground and the panicked curses mixing with apologies from a high voice belonging to the dark haired man. He forced himself to act polite as he asked a sharp "are you alright?"
beautiful annoyingly bright teal eyes met his as a musical voice responded. "Yea I'm okay, can't say the same for my lyre though ehe." And maybe, just maybe, he snapped a bit. (He totally didn't feel a bit bad later, not at all./s) "well my apologies, I'll be more careful next time I crash into you." He saw the piercing eyes narrow and a small frown tug at soft lips before turning and jogging to his first class, grumbling.
And as if the owner of the dark hair with dyed teal braids hadn't ruined his day enough now Diluc was too focused on the male to even pay attention, seriously who manages to look that cute in white tights? Absolutely ridiculous, he wanted to punch him. Yea, that was the feeling, and why his face heated up a smidge thinking of the musical tone.
It was only hours later when he was forced to confront the twink again, via his brother. He did find a name for his nemesis though, Venti. And apparently said Venti was his brothers drinking buddy. Lovely. And now said drunkard had managed to spill fucking wine on Dilucs best dress shirt. And now Diluc maybe would've forgiven it as the man was drunk, and he understands brain to hand coordination flys out the window when drunk, if he hadn't seen the smirk sent his way after the fact, or the mischievous gleam in his soft eyes before sprinting away with the most adorable disgusting giggle. So Diluc pulled the next best step, he declared w a r. Soon pranks were being pulled left and right, from Diluc waking up with cat whiskers drawn on his face after kaeya seemed determined to stay up waiting for someone, to Diluc purposefully placing the vice principals unofficial cat in the music room and listening to Venti struggle to sing through sneezes.
Then things began to.. escalate. At some point Diluc found himself desperately getting honey out of his hair after a unique spin on the water bucket on door trick, he made sure Venti struggled with the sticky dye of a bucket of Kool aid right as he went to sing. He still grinned seeing the red dye sticking to Ventis hands the next day. But now everything came to a halt. Venti had knocked over a vase while drunk thanks to kaeya inviting him over, one of Dilucs few possessions he had of his father's. To Ventis credit he did seem genuinely apologetic and panicked despite the sway to his step. But Diluc saw red, harshly grabbing the small wrist and throwing Venti out. Kaeya didn't say anything other than a soft apology as he helped clean up, it didn't matter, as once he'd managed to get kaeya much drunker he asked if venti had any important possession. He didn't process the word accident at this point, determined for revenge as he was told about a specific lyre, not just a basic but pretty simple one he'd accidentally broke a string on before, one that apparently glowed with it's strings that Venti damn near never played since it was so precious.
He seized the opportunity the next day extremely early, sweet talking about delivering assignments to get back stage and find the lyre in Ventis personal area. It did take a bit of a search, but once he found it he coldly snapped it in two, elegantly placing the pieces back despite the pit steadily growing in his stomach, guilt eating him alive. Then he went and headed off to his first class.
Venti actually approached him before the first class began, looking nervous. That was weird, had he not yet seen the lyre? Then venti spoke "so.. kaeya told me the vase I broke was like, really special and I felt really bad and I swear it was an accident! So I went and tried to find the most similar I could as an apology. And if you're still upset I have this specific glue and I can help glue it back together?" Now Diluc saw this for what it was, a peace treaty, and Diluc, wanted to throw up. He was fucked, absolutely fucked. He had fucked up so bad. His mouth was dry so he ended up staring at venti mouth agape like a dead fish. Venti frowned but hummed a gentle "I'll give you time to think." Before leaving. And Diluc panicked, hard, voice cracking as he spoke "WAIT!"
Venti did, looking confused as Diluc ran up to him, confessing to braking the lyre and half pleading for forgiveness. He saw the color drain from Ventis face as his eyes went glossy, a small whimper of "you did what?" Was the only response before the water works came, tears dripping down as Venti seemed froze, mumbling about how it was the only thing he had of some barbatos fellow and Diluc wanted to be stabbed. But still he spoke, frantically trying to make amends "Look maybe we can ask the director to help fix it? The wood was hollow but-"
Venti paused his furious tear wiping, blinking in confusion. "Did- did you perhaps break the lyre in my music room drawer?" A small nod, only followed by a panicked undiluc like noise as he lurched and caught venti who literally slumped in relief as he spoke "oh my God diluc! That's a set piece I'm using to help the drama students!" A long pause
That, explains a lot. Diluc wanted to cry in relief.

Chapter Text
"Now of course you have to help me make a new set piece." Had been the first words spoken after Venti dissipated the immense guilt on Dilucs shoulders. "Of course, I apologize for how.. childish I've been." A snort, one Diluc finally admits is rather pretty, pulls from Venti "oh come now, I didn't mind the pranks all too much, and I had my fair share of going too far aswell." Diluc hummed, mulling over his thoughts before he spoke "then how about we make it up to each other? I'll buy you whatever wine you'd like-"
An excited gasp halted his ramble, gorgeous shining teal eyes meeting his "REALLY?!" And Diluc couldn't help it, he melted a bit under such a gaze as he shyly nodded, trying to hide the thick blush permitting his cheeks by turning his head as Venti continued "then in return Master Diluc how about I pull some strings and keeps Kaeya at bay for a week?" It was Dilucs turn for widened scarlet eyes to meet Ventis smug teal ones. "There's no way you can actually manage that Venti."
A bright airy laugh cut his doubts short "Why of course I can master Diluc! I'm hurt at how little faith you have in me!" Maybe the short singer should've joined drama instead as he dramatically placed a hand to his chest, mischievousness radiating off of him.
Diluc sighed fondly, shaking his head "I guess I'll have to see it to believe it then, won't I?" He leaned in just a bit, brushing an askew braid to the side as he swore he saw Ventis cheeks flush. But of course it was gone before Diluc could even process the butterflies in his stomach, small fingers grabbing his wrist as Venti spoke "Well now that that's settled let's go to the craft shop after class! 5 o'clock sharp Diluc don't be late, Or else!" There was a glimmer at the hinted 'threat' that sent a shiver down Dilucs spine, breath hitching subtly as the short male sprinted off to his own class.
It was 4:30 pm when Diluc found himself waiting for Venti outside the craft shop, feeling slightly overdressed in his tight black turtleneck, high waisted jeans and combat boots with his hair very carefully groomed to perfection. That of course was before the wind was knocked out of him when he saw Venti running over, in a white crop top with a tight teal shirt underneath, short jeans shorts showing off wider hips and lightly hugging his waist on top of black tights. His hair had the same style it usually did, framing his pretty pink cheeks and soft grinning lips, and in that moment he would've accepted he'd died and been sent to the best afterlife imaginable. The cheer of "master Diluc!" Pouring from Ventis mouth did nothing for the heat burning his cheeks and dropped jaw which he quickly shut with a clack.
Venti of course smiled even brighter up close, humming as he raked his sharp gaze over Diluc with a hum of approval before snapping his fingers. "I know what's missing!" He then produced a red oval jewel with a glimmer of orange inside similar to fire, tugging Diluc down so he could gently clip it behind his neck. "There we go!" Diluc just dumbly nodded, face burning because oh barbatos Venti had gotten so close they shared a breath. If he had leaned in a bit then-
And suddenly nimble fingers pulled him back down using the necklace, a sly grin on Ventis face "now I can easily tug you down and-" he cut himself off with a peck to Dilucs cheek, watching in amusement as Diluc turned a bright red, eyes wide before skipping off into the shop like he didn't just probably give Diluc a heat stroke in fall.
After his brain finished exploding Diluc shakily stumbled after Venti, willing his face to stop burning even as Venti happily wrapped his arm around Dilucs, humming as he dragged the poor red head around every which way. Diluc found he didn't even mind as he carried whatever Ventis heart desired; from paint to string to wood planks.
When Venti deemed them finished and Diluc payed for the items Venti gently plucked bagged items from the red head with a hum. "This was a fun date Diluc! I hope you'll make the next one even more fun!" And with that, Venti skipped off.

Chapter Text
Diluc found himself gasping for air, heavy breaths forcing from his throat as blood poured from his wounds. He felt like an idiot. He had somehow managed to let himself get ambushed, and now he was paying the price. Not only would he end up dead in these monster(vampire) infested woods, but also he never even successfully avenged his father nor protected kaeya. A small what he would consider pathetic part of him, wanted him to remove his weapons just drop them down and get rid of the extra weight so maybe he could survive. But he knew it was a pointless effort; there's no doubt that the blood sucking monsters would have smelled him by now. And without his weapons he would be completely helpless, but he was not in any circumstance going down without a fight. But it didn't seem to matter as his arms gave out beneath his weight. He barely managed a pained grunt, dots dancing across his vision before he caught a glimpse of teal, and everything went dark.
When Diluc woke up, his first instinct was he was dead. The second after realizing that if he was dead this was a very weird afterlife; was to make sure he still had his weapons. Fingertips reaching it towards the leather pockets on his coat to make sure when he froze. He wasn't wearing his coat, it was gone and a shirt he'd never seen before remained. Panic seeped into his lungs again, fuck fuck fuck, someone had found him and taken his weapons and he has no idea who they are. He shot to his feet, adrenaline being the only fuel to keep him standing and ignoring the screaming pain all across his abdomen, arms, and legs. Thankfully he didn't seem to have a concussion. Immediately he was searching his surroundings to the best of his ability and his eyes landed on where his coat was slung over a chair. Confusion crossed his features as he looked around and finally started to process just what was going on and where he was. It seemed to be a rather big room with a large window made up mostly of stained glass. The furniture was rather dusty minus the bed he had been laying in. To the left of his bed right in front of him was dark colored wood desk and cushioned chair. It felt surprisingly dull with a lack of color to any of the objects mostly just grays and dull blues. Outside his window he could see the leaves of a tree which meant he must be rather high up in this house and jumping out probably wouldn't be a best option. He look down and realized he was covered in bandages under the short sleeves and likely around his stomach, rather sloppily done ones anyways. Not to mention the quality seemed a bit older from what he could see. but they served their purpose of making sure he didn't bleed to death for now. He grabbed his coat, made specifically and coated in a material that should burn any vampire that touched it. So for it to be set up so neatly perhaps his savior was actually human. Or just an imbecile. And after double checking and finding (to his relief) his weapons intact, his search for an exit began.
so here he found himself shakily making his way down the hall after ransacking the room in hopes of finding more bandages. (Which was successful, he was proud to say, he even found some dried herbs that may aid him later on in a box on top of the dresser, like he was meant to find it.) It was then that he heard a distinct thump behind him. Moving on pure instinct he whipped around and had the new unexpected visitor pinned by the throat using a dagger covered in a substance very deadly to vampires and still rather painful to humans (with a high enough dosage, otherwise it'll just slow the healing quiet a bit for vampires) There beneath him was a shorter male with dark hair, put it in little braids framing his face with the ends tampering off in to a bright teal color. He glared nearly snarling when he saw The Tell-Tale sign of burning at the light contact between the dagger and the nervous vampire's neck. "W-whoa hey now! Is that any way to treat your savior?~" despite the underlying fear it seemed this vampire was idiotic enough to tease.
Diluc paid no mind to it, only glaring harder and adding just a bit more pressure as a warning before he spoke "you have approximately 3 seconds to tell me where I am, and why you saved me before I slit your throat and leave you to bleed to death." Which would technically be more effectively to call starving to death in the vampires case, but that didn't matter.
"Alright! Alright just, drop the blade, please..?" Came the gentle reply, followed by bright begging eyes that matched the teal in his hair. Diluc wasn't sure why he actually dropped the blade from the vampire's neck. Maybe it was the blood loss, or maybe it was cause he didn't like owing people things and the vampire saved him. But the adrenaline was wearing off, and he ended up kind of collapsing into the vampire. Maybe letting instincts take over when he was already barely walking and effectively reopening his wounds was not his brightest idea. But as his brain caught up that this was still a monster he began to struggle against a tight hold with a shaky grunt. Said vampire just hummed a soft "whoa whoa! Hold still or you'll make the bleeding worse!" Diluc paused, and found that yea, he couldn't overpower said vampire in his current state anyways so hesitantly stopped the struggle. Now said vampire gently helped sling one of Dilucs hands over his shoulders and stumbling them right back to the room that Diluc had been staying in. He was surprisingly gentle as he set Diluc on the bed. The vampire himself took a seat a little ways away but still in Dilucs view. "Now then, I suppose I should explain, yes?" The words carried a musical tone to them but all Diluc responded with was a Scarlet glare, messy red hair falling into his face. Venti hummed, pouting at the cold glare before continuing, "well, I found you out in the woods on the brink of death, and decided you had enough life in you to be able to be saved. So I took you back to my mansion. I tried to patch you up but I don't really have much experience.. and I was gonna offer you like, an apple when you woke up but as you can see they didn't really.. work out ehe."
Diluc huffed, nodding. It seemed to match up with what he had assumed his best case scenario was. And the distinct lack of bite marks was relieving. However there's a chance the vampire didn't wanna waste prey like that and helped him so he could use him as an effective food source later. Still Diluc had questions. "How did you take my coat off or carry me? My coat is covered and crafted in an anti vampire solution."
Venti paused, a nervous giggle plucking from his lips "ah, well..." He gently held up his poorly wrapped hands, blood speckling through.
"Ah." Was all Diluc managed, an apologetic grimace flickering across this features before his exhausted brain could stop it.
Venti hummed, visibly perking up "right! I'm Venti by the way!" He smiled, all (sharp)teeth before realizing it may be seen as less then pleasant and covering it with a hand sheepishly.
Diluc glared just long enough for the vampire to squirm before he spoke "Diluc."
Venti practically beamed at getting the redheads name. Humming in delight before he spoke "do you want me to help replace your bandages?" Diluc looked at the vampire with the most unamused look. Venti flinched under the hard glare, visibly wilting "right, dumb question, sorry."
Diluc isn't sure why he softened but still he let out an exasperated sigh. "I'll consider letting you help after you learn how to properly apply bandages." Before he began gently undoing his own, taking the bandages from his discarded coat after removing it and the shirt before he firmly but carefully rewrapped then (after applying medicine venti offered, albeit hesitantly.) Venti watched with attentive eyes trying to learn how to do it perfectly just from one example. Diluc bit back an endeared scoff, signalling him closer. "Give me your hand." Was all he said before gently removing the bandages from the pale vampires hands, grumbling as he checked the damaged fingertips with a surprisingly gentle grip. "Now watch carefully." He applied some of the medicine gently (after making sure that it would also help vampires), before firmly wrapping the fingers with precision. Venti watched with big round eyes in amazement. When Diluc deemed both hands wrapped enough with a sharp nod he let them go.
Venti smiled, a gentle tease pouring out "so gentle despite acting so cold Diluc~". That earned him only a glare.
Soon after Venti left the tense man, despite the tentative calm settled between them there was tension. Diluc flashed his metaphorical claws and Venti (shockingly) wasn't dumb enough to fully drop his guard. Just as Diluc settled to try and think of how he was going to continue in this mansion a gentle click caught his ears. He turned just in time to see a light greenish blue smoke evaporate leaving only a tray of cut up apples and some apple cider. He blinked, confused before taking an apple slice and staring suspiciously at it. It was then his stomach decided to make itself known, growling softly in hunger. Right, when had he had a meal last? So very carefully he nipped the apple, relaxing as his previous knowledge told him it most likely just an apple that was shockingly well chosen based on the sweet flavor.
It was a week later when Venti actually approached him. Instead of leaving meals using his magic or popping in to check on Diluc wounds when he thought Diluc was asleep. They seem to have come to a quiet understanding of one another. As long as one didn't attack first the peace would remain. And here Venti was, clinging happily to Dilucs arm as he excitedly dragged a mostly healed Diluc forwards the front door to "show off" his apple trees. Diluc knew a fair bit about vampires, which gave him enough sense to jerk Venti back the second he opened the door. "Idiot" was all he scolded as he pulled an parasol from it's holding place near the door and held it above the short male. Venti blinked, a small "oh" as he looked a bit sheepish with a thanks. He had a feeling the severe sunburn would've dampened the contagious happiness and that.. would be less pleasant. Obviously only because he didnt want to hear the vampire whining, that's the only reason. Not at all because he has a nice smile.
Diluc acted as bored as he could as to not give Venti the satisfaction of knowing he was a bit endeared by a vampire who had a flower garden. But he couldn't help a shocked gasp when he saw Ventis orchard and vegetable/fruit garden. It was incrediblely well taken care of apparently, a range of cherries, pears, plums, and especially apples all neatly planted. And in the garden nearby he had an array of veggies and fruits(like tomatoes and squash) all flourishing, with long full grape Vines in the back. Venti practically glowed as Diluc complimented his work. Before abruptly Diluc turned to Venti. "Do you like wine? These kinds of grapes would make a good one." Venti nodded vigorously, eyes practically glowing. Diluc hummed, he or Venti could likely find a shop a ways away and purchase the necessary sugar and yeast.
Almost two months in with practically completely healed wounds a silent calm had settled in his lungs as this place began to feel like home. He grew accustomed to Ventis banter and helping cook. Venti could digest normal food but it wouldn't do much for his actual hunger so he'd go out hunting quiet a bit. And on occasion perhaps Diluc joined in to help.
But everything came to a halt when he saw Venti reading a letter looking rather upset. He gently plucked it from from Venti when he saw some threatening words over his shoulder. He knew if the vampire truly didn't want him reading it he wouldn't let him take it. So he skimmed it, making a face at all the threats over some apparent "brother" Venti took. Before glancing at the sender and losing all the color in his face. He knew the name. Kaeya alberich, his adoptive brother had been looking for him. And Venti hadn't told him.
He turned to Venti, a mix of hurt and anger bubbling under his gaze, "my brother has been sending you letters about me and you never told me?" Venti paused, blinking in confusion before jumping up to defend himself "I never knew it was your brother! You never told me his name and he never said yours!" The argument briefly continued before Diluc hissed out a "I should've known better then to trust a monster." And Venti froze, hurt pouring into his features before being rapidly masked. "I see." Was all that was said in a soft whisper, and with a flurry of blue something was set on the table and Venti was gone. Diluc turned his head to see a warm cup of coco. Oh.
His chest was aching, the familiar friend of guilt creeping into his lungs. Ventis argument made sense, it'd be more worrying if he knew Dilucs brother. So he quietly sipped the cocoa and weighed his apology.
It was 10 minutes later when he approached Ventis room as silently as possible. Then he froze, hearing a small sniffle and his body moved in pure instinct. Pushing the door open and moving quickly infront of the tealed haired male. He dropped to a knee and held Ventis face tenderly, wiping the tears from pale cheeks. Venti blinked down at him before inhaling sharply (they both knew he didn't need to breath, but he said he liked to.) Before reaching to wipe his face frantically and hide the tears. But Diluc gently pushed the hands back as he spoke "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean that darling, I just had a lot of feelings and I shouldn't have taken it out on you." Venti softened, nodding gently with a small "it's okay, I should've shown you the letter earlier just in case." Diluc huffed before pulling the vampire close, letting him bury his face into Dilucs and go limp. Diluc moved and carefully picked Venti up and moved to the bed comfortably. Leaning on the pillows while he sat up he allowed Venti to curl into his lap. He continued to gently comb his fingers through Ventis hair, undoing the messy braids. Fuck, if kaeya went through with those threats and attacked Venti would be be able to protect him? He knew Kaeya would be doing it to save or avenge him but he couldn't just allow him to attack Venti. Perhaps they could reach out and have a civil discussion? That seemed like the best non violent possiblity.
And 2 weeks later (after discussing it with Venti) they had invited Kaeya over. Venti had quietly helped make dinner and an apple pie. And just as Diluc was setting the wine out he heard the sharp hard rapping in the door. He moved before Venti could (just in case) and opened the door. He was met with Kaeya, however said bluenette looked.. cold. He could taste the bloodlust and recognized the dangerous look in his eyes as he spoke, keeping his voice light. "Diluc, good to see your.. well." Diluc could feel kaeyas eyes burning over his skin as he looked around for frantic marks. And it was then diluc realized it was a terrible idea to wear a turtle neck, it looked suspicious as hell. Diluc nodded, forcing a smile "you as well." And led him to the dining room. Dinner was.. tense to say the least, he could feel Venti shift uncomfortably as kaeya practically burned a hole into the side of his head. Kaeya was tracking Ventis every move with his eyes, not even glancing away to grab his glass of wine. So of course he caught Venti reaching to squeeze Dilucs arm in comfort and reacted in an instant, a blade shot across the table, barely missing Diluc who was yanked back by Venti. But in the panic of protecting him he was unable to doge. The blade slice cleaning across his throat, hot blood pouring out as Venti shakily wrapped his hands around it to stopped the bleeding. Kaeya moved to attack with his sword now but Diluc whipped his out and blocked it. He took a steadying breath and moved, knocking the weapon from kaeyas grip and pinning him with his hands behind his back before leading the struggling bluenette out, asking why he defended someone who just wants to use him as a blood bank. Diluc snapped, telling him Venti had never even bit him before throwing out kaeyas sword next to him and shutting the door.
Then his legs moved as fast as they could, running back a very much bleeding Ventis side. He cursed sharply as he began to try and stop the bleeding despite Ventis small whimpers of pain. When he noticed the light starting to falter as Venti lost too much blood he forced his wrist into his mouth. Venti whimpered and tried shaking his head, refusing even as he neared death but Diluc wasn't taking no as an answer. He forced the fangs into his wrist with a slight grimace, knowing itd be easier if Venti wasn't struggling. Finally Venti gave in, eyes trying to communicate relentless apologies and he began to desperately drunk from his wrist. Diluc only responded by gently pressing his lips to Ventis forehead in reassurance. They could talk about it later, but in no way would he blame Venti or get mad at him. He felt his own shoulders slump when the bleeding slowed, human blood instead of animal helping it heal a bit faster despite the solution the blade was coated in. Finally once it was too a lazy trickle Venti pulled back. Diluc opened his mouth to argue that Venti should drink more but at the pleading look decided against it. Venti remained slumped into his lap, shaking slightly from more then likely a lot of things that had happened that night before Diluc lifted him bridal style. He took Venti too the room before gathering medicine and bandages, wrapping what remained if the wound that hadn't stitched itself together. He allowed Venti to lay his head on Dilucs lap as Diluc himself slumped in exhaustion against the bed. He'd have to deal with the consequences of this all later, but right now Venti was okay and that's all that mattered.

Chapter Text
The air in the mansion was heavy. Diluc was livid when he got home, not only had one of his buyers who would've been really profitable backed out last minute but then a very pricey shipment was attacked by hilichurls and most of it was lost. then on top of everything he had to deal with 2 pyro mages and 4 ice mages on his way home. So yea, he was exhausted and livid and had to worry about figuring out the lost money from all this. And he was less then amused when Venti burst in with a bright smile. He glared angrily at those bright gentle eyes as soft lips spoke. "Well master Diluc I know you had a hard day, so I have a song that'll help you relax.," He paused, waiting for an objection or to be shooed out. After a pause he smiled, lighting up and began to sing. And Venti was right, it helped the anger slip off his shoulders and relax. But he wanted to be angry right then, needed to be livid at the mistakes that had transpired. And without thinking he snapped at the poor maid "ENOUGH VENTI." And immediately it was silent, eyes wide as they stared at him. "I don't need to be calm right now! I have every right to be fucking angry! I don't need to be treated like an out of control pet for you to!-" a small whisper of "I wasn't meaning to imply that, I just thought I could help-" before Diluc continued "You can help by doing your job properly instead of slacking constantly! Now get out of my office, I don't want to see you for the rest of the day!" He was breathing heavy by the end, face burning before he felt like puking. He didn't feel good at all, taking this out on Venti. And at the fearful blinking he desperately wished he could turn back time, apologize, anything. But Venti only nodded, quietly apologized and was on his way half running out. Adeline had given him a disapproving motherly look as she dropped off some grape juice ten minutes later.
That was the straw that broke him, he ran out to go find Venti and profusely apologize, forgetting why he was even so mad about some meaningless money. He began searching around the entire manor, asking the maids about Ventis whereabouts. Finally one maid, Emma, answered "he used his vision to rapidly finish his chores and cut the wood before leaving to go home." Diluc was bewildered at that. Most maids lived in the mansion and he was almost certain Venti never mentioned a home. But he couldn't go outside and try and track Ventis Address without making things worse. so he resigned himself to trying to head off to bed.
It was rather unsuccessful, he ended up tossing and turning through the night, tension running thick under his skin. It was just when the sun was rising when he dressed himself in a simple dress shirt and black leather pants and headed downstairs. He hummed as he used what little energy he had to finish any paperwork when the door opened gently. His head shot up only to see Venti, gently stepping in looking tired and dressed in a pressed uniform. Even his hair didn't have the cute usual braids, only tied up in an uncomfortable looking bun. He looked dead as he went to get to work immediately before spotting Diluc and freezing. The tension could be cut with a knife before Venti broke it with a simple bow and a mutter of "good morning master Diluc, I apologize about my immature behavior yesterday." Finally having the spell over him snap Diluc was out of his seat and moving forwards Venti. It made him feel ill to see Venti act like a dead eyed servant with a cold master. He forced himself to speak, gentle words "Venti, there's no need to apologize, you just wanted to make me feel better and I ended up taking it out on you." Gentle teal met crimson eyes and Venti seemed ready to give some cold automated response before pausing. Concern gently washed over his features as he reached up and rubbed Dilucs cheek right under his eye. When he spoke his tone held a motherly scold and concern almost "Diluc did you not sleep last night?"
A pause, Diluc glancing away giving himself up. Venti huffed, letting his personality seep back in as he dragged Diluc upstairs by holding his hand, scolding him the whole way. Diluc couldn't help but smile, Venti being professional was terrifying so this was like a breath of fresh air. Maybe that's why he reached up and gently undid the bun Venti out his hair in. Venti didn't comment, letting it tickle his shoulders. When they reached the bedroom he didn't lay down first, instead gently pushed Venti into the bed before laying on his head top of Ventis stomach. Venti huffed at him but didn't comment as he gently carded his fingers through Dilucs hair, knowing it comforted him. Diluc reached up and gently undid the buttons of the uncomfortably tight shirt Venti wore. He must've grabbed one size too small when rushing out. A gentle peck against his skin up to his chest, mixing with small apologies. Venti just giggles and hums a "you're forgiven." And if Adeline opened the door to find Diluc fast asleep with his face buried in Ventis smaller chest, with Venti dead asleep she wouldn't tell anyone. Especially not when Venti saved her from cutting wood for several months.

Chapter Text
Diluc was bloody exhausted where he stood behind the bar. Maybe the lack of sleep while protecting mondstat was getting to him. Maybe he should listen to kaeyas teasing and take a nap. No, he can't let Charles deal with the bar alone. Absolutely this doesn't have a thing to do with his insatiable craving to see those pretty teal eyes peering up at him, flush pink lips parting to him out a "master Diluc!" Or the jealousy that would flutter unfairly against his ribs at the thought of it being directed at another.
And yet when he saw the pretty teal eyes directed at him in concern his chest burned in guilt. Maybe he let the pretty bard have too much power over him, when he allowed him to drink to his hearts content with a gentle plead as he leaned in so Diluc could practically taste the wine that already touched his lips and maybe he wouldn't mind the taste if it was from-. Okay yea maybe he was a bit whipped. But he forced himself to register the words pouring from plump lips "master Diluc! You look exhausted, why not get some rest?"
And now you see, Diluc really struggled to say no to the bard, but leaving Charles would be criminal! (Charles really could more then handle it, he just wants his boss to stop pouting when the bard says hi to him instead of Diluc when Diluc manages to say no the night before) and yet those diligent elegant finger tips had his arm and suddenly Diluc was jelly in Ventis hands, letting himself get taken from behind the counter. He was being led upstairs by careful hands, god with fingers like those that were so diligent would they also- and that was enough of that train if thought before he passed out of blood loss instead of exhaustion. When they got upstairs Venti hesitated. "En, master Diluc?" Immediately crimson eyes snapped to Venti, not wanting to miss a word. Venti paused, cheeks burning with the way Diluc looked at him like he was the most glorious thing in the universe. Forcing down his nerves he said a small "I'm in love with you master Diluc!"
And that was it for Diluc, his brain overloaded and he slumped over passed out. Venti yelped, catching the winery owner and setting him in the bed with a small sigh. "Well then, goodnight master Diluc." And he left after leaving a note apologizing and a glass of water.
When Diluc awoke it was blissful, humming as he finally felt rested.
Of course before last night flooded back, and all the color drained from his face as he prayed it was a dream. He whipped his head to the side, saw the note with the lovely hand written apology, and in that moment Diluc wanted to be crushed to death by a meteorite. He shot out of bed, got dressed faster then he ever had before, didn't bother putting his hair in a ponytail and sprinted down the stairs skipping 3 at a time. He shot through the bar and at a distinct lack of Venti shot out the bar doors to search mondstat. He searched the entire ground area, asking around. Then he climbed to the highest he could and began searching roofs with his eyes. Finally by mid day he was shooting out of mondstat. He finally made his way to the large tree in Windrise. He saw Venti finally, sitting in the tree sadly plucking his lyre. And Dilucs legs gave out in relief, heavy pants giving him away after just searching the entirety of mondstat alone. Venti jumped down and ran to his side "are you okay master Diluc?!"
And Diluc didn't utter a word, just grabbed venti when he was close enough and crushed him in a hug, still greedily gasping for breath as he spoke "finally... Found... You" Venti blinked. Once. Twice. Before breaking into giggles "did- master Diluc did you search mondstat for me?"
Diluc sighed, nodding as he admitted a soft "I am nothing if not a lovesick fool for you." He heard the giggles taper into a sharp inhale. "Master diluc you?-" before warm chapped lips crashed into his, and that's was all the answer needed.

Nah but he works in a quaint lil coffee shop and catches Dilucs eyes who's an exhausted boi that loves his cup of joeAlso minor warning that Diluc finds Venti being strong af hot ASF and is mildly turned on by it (still no smut lovelies)
Chapter Text
(happy late Halloween lovelies!!)
Diluc was.. kinda excited when aether invited him to a small quiet cafe nearby. He'd wanted an excuse to visit it and see if it was worth making himself a regular at since the last cafe had a certain ginger barista who made Diluc rather uncomfortable with his presence.
And that led to where he was now, calmly sitting and staring at his coffee cup with red cheeks. He panicked a bit when a drop dead gorgeous barista whipped around and greeted him with a smile that made his knees weak. He had this gorgeous dark blue hair with teal tips that was tied in a ponytail. His attire was a white shirt with slightly puffed out sleeves under the uniform expected apron with a name tag. His name was Venti apparently, and he used he/they/it pronouns. He mumbled the name to himself, weighing it on his tongue for a moment before deciding he liked the taste of it. Venti was short, and petite. Yet Diluc could just sense the power under his fingertips when their fingers brushed as he took his coffee. But now he was in a predicament. See he (shockingly according to most) liked sweet coffee. And despite the whipped cream on top his coffee looked.. darker then he liked. To be fair he had just mumbled a small "whatever you'd think I'd like." And Venti looked so damn happy handing him the cup like he'd read Diluc perfect. And he really REALLY didn't want to watch his perfect pink lips fall into a sad frown. So he took a tentative sip, and froze. He had been proven wrong. Usually most cafe's just serve him something grossly sweet when he asked. Then when he asked them to tone if back on the sweetness it'd come back way too bitter. But this was perfect, the mix that actually seemed to be a mix of coffee, cocoa and cream seemed to be just what he was looking for. The pretty barista must've seen his shocked face cause he heard damn near angelic giggles and whipped his head to meet those gorgeous baby blues shining with mirth. His blush only darkened when those same bright eyes winked at him knowingly and went back to work. He distantly heard aether's concerned yelp when he smashed face first into the table from overheating.
Okay, maybe he was disappointed when he didn't immediately see Venti when he walked in the next day, before the realization that he didn't even know the name of the drink Venti gave him settled in and he'd probably have to order something random or stumble pathetically through an explanation. But that was for him to contemplate as he waited patiently inline. It seemed however the gods had smiled upon him, as with only 2 people left ahead of him he heard a familiar hum passing by. He looked up in time to see what he considered an angel in disguise skipping past and clocking in, relieving the other barista just as they finished an order. He didn't even realize the weight lifted off the shoulder as the line infront of him dropped to one person, that was of course before he heard the grumbling of said man "fucking annoying bitch, makin me wait when I got business." Diluc immediately tried making eye contact with Venti, hoping that despite barely talking the barista would understand the silent warning. He almost gasped in relief when he met Ventis bright eyes and flicked them to the man infront of him before pointedly frowning at Venti. Venti seemed to get the message, smile faltering and nodding just barely before the customer smile plastered back on and he spoke in his cheek manner, but definitely much more toned down as to not drive the man to anger faster "good afternoon sir! What may I get for you today?" Said man just glared sharply at the cute barista, just waiting before he spoke, a smirk obvious in his voice "the usual." Venti paused, glancing at the second barista who arrived a few minutes before for help. The other brunette with a bright red bow in the shape of bunny ears just shrugged helplessly. Venti turned back to the man, using the most gentle voice he could "I'm so sorry sir, but to ensure the quality of your order would you mind telling us your usual?" The man scoffed, throwing his hands around to exaggerate his apparent annoyance "well obviously it's a Tall Blended Sugar-Free Toasted Graham Mocha lightly salted with an extra shot and as hot as you can, and make it snappy" he half spat as Venti nodded, jotting it down and handing it to the other barista who clearly caught none of what the guy said based on her bewildered stare. Venti continued still with a sweet smile "and can we have a name for that sir?" The man glared, huffing his nostrils "Kevin." Venti nodded, humming a sweet "thank you" before telling that to the girl apparently named Amber.
Diluc offered a sympathetic smile when the guy stomped off to wait for his drink to be done, which was returned with a much more genuine one from Venti. Venti smiled, tone taking on the normal sweetness to it "will it be the usual sir Diluc?~" and that had Diluc flushed, he'd completely forgot he gave them his name to call for order, and could hardly process Venti totally remembering it when he probably hears so many. But all he managed was a nod before swallowing his nerves and speaking softly "what's it called, if I may ask?" Venti paused, considering him with his piercing gaze before smiling playfully "just ask for Ventis special, they'll know what you mean darling." And Dilucs poor face exploded in warmth, earning him more gentle giggles. He swallowed thickly as Venti began preparing his order quickly, humming happily as Diluc moved to stand vaguely near the other man still waiting and tapping his foot pointedly. Poor Amber (according to the name tag) looked more uncomfortable at how long each step seemed to take. Thankfully Venti noticed and gently took over for her, telling her what much simpler drink he'd been making she could focus on. She gave him a grateful glanced and quickly took over his and Venti quickly finished the rest of the drink. When it was handed to the man he glared, loudly muttering about how long it took as he took a sip, which Venti tried yelping a "sir it's very hot please be careful!" To no avail. The man screeched as he burnt his mouth as yelled at poor Venti about how hot it was. To his infinite credit Venti remained calm throughout, gently explaining that he tried warning the man and it has a specific label on the coffee sleeve to warn them. But the man didn't listen and kept yelling, and just before Diluc was about to step in threw the drink at Venti. Venti moved to probably use his vision or hands to protect him but Diluc was faster, catching the spilling drink and gritting his teeth as a little poured into his hand. Venti gave him a thankful glance before hopping over the counter and approaching the man in a deadly calm as he spoke "we absolutely do not allow assault in our establishment. If you do not leave I will escort you with force." The man bristled, he was at least a foot taller then Venti and seemed to believe he could take him. His own stupidity as the second he began refusing Venti had his arms sharply pinned behind his back and was dragging him out the door and throwing him out.
Jesus christ Diluc only fell harder at that because that display of strength was unbelievably hot. Speaking of Venti was running forwards him and gently checking over the burn on his hand with cool fingers. Venti let out a worried hum, glancing at him with a barely concealed worry before dragging him backwards to the employees only area. He looked around the dimly lit room with a hum, it smelled nice. Like hazelnut and coffee. Venti signalled him towards a simple metal table which Diluc awkwardly stood by while he waited. Venti raised a brow when he saw Diluc standing there awkwardly before warm small hands were under his thighs and placing him on the table like he weighed nothing. Jesus fuck he really hoped his blood remained in his face and didn't rush other places. But maybe the blush must've showed on his face as Venti let out an angelic laugh before grabbing a rag he must've set down. Venti was gentle when he grabbed a wet rag and began gently wiping up the spilled coffee from Dilucs hand, it wasn't too bad thankfully. And yet Venti caught his eyes and maintained eye contact as he vent down and kissed the burn. Jesus Christ his face must match his hair based off how Venti looked doing that. Venti checked over the (now cleaner wound) one last time before nodding and releasing Diluc from the spell he seemed to have over him with a smile "alright that shouldn't scar or anything so no need to worry, and um thank you." He seemed a bit shy at the end smiling coyly up at Diluc. Diluc nodded, face softening as his brain to mouth filter completely fucking imploded with the next cheesy words "I'd take a thousand coffees for you." Two blinks. Then a very much blushing Venti burst out into a full belly laugh, clenching his stomach as he wheezed while Diluc buried his face in his hands with a loud groan.
~~~~~
It was three days later when Diluc came back in the shop. The exhaustion must've shown on his face when Venti saw him based off the concern radiating from him. He was shooed off before even ordering or paying. After hesitantly sitting at the table he was sent to he laid his head in his arms. Before he heard the clack of shoes and coffee set infront of him. He glanced up when Venti just offered a small smile as he also set a slice of.. something down . Venti hummed a soft "it's a grape clafioutis. Diluc cocked his head to the side but hesitantly accepted the treat. He used the provided form to hesitantly take a bite. It was sweet, but not a crazy amount. It was actually rather good. He turned to Venti to tell him as much but was a bit disappointed to see him retreating to the counter. But still, his mood was much better now, letting his shoulders droop as he focused on the dessert and thoughts of Ventis smile instead of the negative cloud that had wanted to follow him.
He tried only once more to pay. But the sad kicked puppy stare Venti gave was enough to discourage a third try. Warmth flustered in his chest as he plucked a small book from his pocket, reading quietly as the gentle background noise and warm sun lulled him.
He awoke with a small jerk, to gentle fingers in his hair as Venti used his free hand to lightly shake him. Venti only lightly smiled and it was then Diluc noticed the setting sun and the emptiness of the cafe. His face burned in embarrassment which was quickly squandered when Venti only said a gentle "would you like to come home with me? It should be closer?" It came off a question, right Venti didn't even know where he lived, maybe he could show him, show him where the bed was too and- he was tugged from his seat and gently dragged through the cafe's doors. Venti didn't let his hand go as the began to walk in blissful silence. Warmth was interrupted by a light breeze. Venti seemed absolutely blissful as it hit his face, breathing in the fresh air. And to Diluc Venti was his breath of fresh air, air aware from the winery, away from the disgusting smell of alcoholics, away from drunkards who liked to touch things the shouldn't. He smiled, and without thinking pulled the bard into a tight embrace. Venti froze for only a moment, before slumping like a puppet without strings. Diluc made a noise of concern at Ventis legs suddenly giving out, only to receive a small apology. It was then he looked closer and noticed just how tired the poor boy also was, he didn't think life was necessarily easy for him either. So he gently lifted him despite the squeak of protest. Venti had lifted him today, so he could pull him up aswell. Venti leaned into him quietly for a moment, legs tight around Dilucs waist as he quickly walked before a mumble interupted the silence "Diluc.. you know you needed to turn left earlier and walked right past it right?"
Diluc muttered the colorful arrange of curses as he turned and began running back the direction he came, the music of Ventis laughter warm in the air.
end of part 1 ;)
Chapter 11: venti brinking insanity arc 😍
Summary:
Venti almost loses it
Thankfully he's made some friendsTW for mental breakdown sorta
We don't dive too far into it
And Diluc has man titties cause I say so (yea we're stealing kaeyas brand/hj)Lil bit of Diluc and kaeya talkin out their issues too so it kinda went off the rails lmao
Chapter Text
Diluc felt his breathing pick up, running to Venti who was still screaming, hands over his ears and wind and power whipping off him
No way would Diluc lose someone again, not venti, not the man who was more then a friend to him by now, or some drunk bard he gave free drinks too.
Jean was moving closer on shaking legs, almost being blown away from the sheer force. To his right kaeya was also moving in, albedo using a Geo shield to make it less hindered. Amber was on the other side of Venti, warm concern in his bright eyes as he bow blew off her head. She paid it no mind and kept going. Diluc was shocked that despite the agony and how close their god was he managed to restraint the slashing wind from hurting them. Even when he'd gasped as the mountains around them were cut like nothing. He knew the risk if venti lost himself further. He spotted traveler and a man with golden eyes a brown hair advancing aswell. He didn't comment as he finally reached Venti and yanked him close. Venti struggled, a weak movement before jean was joining the hug, then kaeya and Albedo and so on. Finally Venti slumped. His breathing was heavy as tears poured into Dilucs torn shirt.
He knew what today was by now, knew Ventis power could become unstable when emotional and how amplified it was when his gnosis was gone. He took a shakey breath. He knew something horrible had happened to push Venti over today. But they wouldn't leave him alone like this. They cared for the bard. And Barbara was on standby a ways away to help with any healing.
Venti shut his eyes tighter before passing out cold. Diluc brought him to the winery once he was checked over by Barbara. It wasn't like he was alone. Even Kaeya sucked up a breath and followed, Albedo holding his hand as some reassurance. Jean had to go to reassure the citizens and amber left for damage control. But the traveler and the odd golden eyed man apparently an old friend of ventis called "zhongli" was with them.
He made tea while Venti lay in bed, letting a lightly tense silence follow. Aether had said he'd make something light if venti was hungry when he woke, though it was more likely to escape the thick awkward atmosphere. Suddenly dark blue eyes met Dilucs and Diluc sucked in a breath. Kaeya had a hesitant look in his eyes, being back in the manor once more. And he wanted to talk. Zhongli seemed to have a sense for it and went after aether to "help cook" apparently. Albedo went to leave to give them privacy but kaeya gave him a pleading look. He saw the blonde glance at him so he nodded, if albedo was gonna be kaeyas emotional support then he had no issue with it, and he trusted the alchemist to keep his mouth shut.
The silence was long before Diluc broke it "I offer my apologies for attacking you. I was younger and not thinking clearly."
Kaeya stiffened, eyes wide like that was the l a s t thing he expected. Diluc flinched at the look, had he really been that cruel? Kaeya chose to respond, voice softer then his usual cocky tone "I don't entirely blame you, I know it must've been difficult to hear and understand." Diluc nodded, the tension was there, they'd had a lot of fights and hurtful words that needed amending, and the rift was sharp and nowhere near repaired from two short sentences. But for now it was a begining. Diluc continued "you're room is clean, if you'd like to stay the night, just keep it down with albedo alright?" Kaeya choked on his tea at that and poor albedo burned a bright red, immediately moving away from where he'd been buried into kaeyas side. Much to kaeyas whining. Deciding he'd rather do just about anything else then watch his brother be lovey dovey infront of him he went to hurriedly check Ventis condition.
Venti was awake it seemed, looking at a mirror in the room with a vague discomfort. Diluc moved automatically as he covered it with a sheet, before moving to Ventis side and taking his hand. Venti hummed softly as he slumped against Dilucs chest (hehe man boobs supremacy) with a content sigh. The silence remained in a peaceful bliss, before aether kicked open the door shrieking that zhongli was never allowed to cook again.
Chapter 12: Shattering
Panic
Chapter Text
Venti gasped as he saw an absolutely massive Mitachurl heading for Bennett, this one was far bigger then anything he'd seen in at least 300 years, and it seemed to pack a hell of a punch, using a large spiked hammer type thing instead of the axe like weapons they may usually wield. He moved on instinct, doubting an unlucky human such as Bennett would survive a blow from that. But he wasn't reacting fast enough it seemed, as he had been too focused on Bennett he failed to move his hand out of the way in time, feeling a flash of pain and letting out a small cry as he arm shattered under the impact of the hit.
it didn't make it any less painful that he wasn't truly human, gripping the bicep left and biting his cheek so hard it drew blood to prevent a hoarse scream. He'd felt worse, so this shouldn't hurt. He could feel warm shaking fingers gripping him, worried. His team was yelling, still fighting, right he had to protect them. Protect his people. all at once his eyes glowed as his inner god emerged and made itself known. The wind violently whipped around them, screaming to reflect Ventis agony as the enemies weakly fell beneath the presser, obliterated in moments. He let out short gasps once the enemies were gone, artificial blood slowing with the use of air as a way to stall the blood flow. Pure power was still radiating off of him as he felt a gloved hand on his uninjured arm. He glanced over to see a worried but understanding Albedo by his side, he glanced down at what his arm had shattered into and winced, it looked like a broken porcelain dolls arm covered in blood instead of what a mangled human arm would be. Suddenly kaeya was on the side of his injured arm, not paying any mind to the fact it just became very obvious he wasn't human. Instead he focused on using making sure Venti wouldn't bleed to death (he was pretty sure he physically couldn't die of blood loss, but he wasn't in the mood to find out how true it was.) Poor Bennett was sobbing as he suddenly leaped and held Venti, a mix of apologies and asking if he was okay pouring out. He gently used his remaining hand to rub the poor kids back and softly reassured him it wasn't his fault. Aether was nearby, glancing back worriedly but prepared to fight any backup that may come. Once they were sure the monster camp was cleared Albedo had that gleam in his eye, one that said he was curious but not willing to ask at what may be an inappropriate time. Venti sighed as Diluc carried him to a nearby camp they'd set up, they couldn't risk heading into the winery yet or town without panic and suspicion arising. Especially if Venti came out with a suddenly repaired arm. Silence fell with his team still worriedly by his side. Albedo gently took the no longer bleeding limb and asked for permission with a glance. Venti nodded quietly (a permission and confirmation Albedos power would work in reconstruction of the limb), allowing the feeling of Albedos Geo power pour into his wound. He bit his lip as the agony of someone reconstructed his arm without any sort of numbing. Before he felt something press to his mouth from his other side. He turned and saw Diluc offering a piece of leather to bite through the pain. He smiled softly before accepting the leather. His teeth only tightened as poor albedo had to dig his fingers into the wound to make sure it constructed properly. He heard Albedo apologize and just nodded stiffly. Bennett was still hovering worriedly. He heard kaeya shift away, probably uncomfortable watching his boyfriend dig through his drinking buddy's arm. It took quiet a while, around an hour and a half before his arm was constructed enough for him to use his magic to repair the rest of the way. He gently took out the leather and heard diluc let out a low whistle at how deep it was pierced. Now it was time for the questions. He could see the concern and protectiveness pouring across Dilucs face (the only man in this group who knows) as he realized what was soon to come. It was kaeya who broke the tense silence "barbatos, right?" Venti blinked, once, twice. Had he been obvious?
He saw Diluc tense from the corner of his eye, but spoke before Diluc could decide to try and protect his boyfriend by badly lying "yes." It was soft, Aether glancing back to make sure the team wouldn't suddenly turn and try killing Venti for some crazy reason or go and tell someone. Bennett was the one to speak up "of course my bad luck ended up getting the anemo archon hurt!" Venti couldn't help it, letting out an affectionate giggle as he pulled the unlucky kid (in his eyes) into a gentle hug, continuing to reassure the very distraught Bennett. Albedo turned onto his science mode, eyes gleaming as he bom'bard'ed Venti. Kaeya just looked off far away, probably thinking about a lot of things now.
Chapter 13: Sometimes it's hard to say no to a bard
Summary:
Diluc tells Venti he expects him gone when he comes back. He can't bring himself to kick him out when he comes back though.
Also totally not me projecting how touch starved I am onto Diluc
Bro I just wanna hug smh
Chapter Text
Diluc turned coldly to the bard, gaze hard as it always was when he dealt with a drunk that wanted to fight leaving as he spoke "I expect you gone by the time I get back Venti. I don't have the energy to argue with your tonight." And Venti only lightly flinched. Diluc hesitated, the bard was acting off tonight, and he didn't necessarily want to leave him thinking Diluc found him annoying, but he had a passed out drunkard to get help for. So he left after a beat, moving quickly to find someone to take the guy home before rushing back to the tavern, despite his words he found himself desperately hoping Venti had yet to leave. Venti was still there, grabbing his lyre and moving to leave. He froze when he met Dilucs eyes, apologizing softly before moving to rush past him. Diluc caught him gently with one arm. Venti paused, glancing at Diluc with tired eyes before Venti sighed.
"What is it master Diluc?" His voice barely held the usual cheer, too tired and cold compared to the usual Venti. Diluc hesitated, he didn't have an answer, so he went for the next best thing "come home with me, please." Venti paused, face scrunching lightly in confusion before he seemed to just, slump. He buried his face into Dilucs chest and mumbled a soft "if you insist." Diluc paused with his hands above Ventis back before he spoke again "may I carry you?" Venti giggled at the formalness of Dilucs speech, wrapping his arms around Dilucs neck and using anemo to boost him enough to wrap his legs around the pyro users waist. Dilucs fingers immediately moved to hold him, adjusting him slightly so instead of gripping his coat Ventis arms were under it, warm and holding his shirt. Venti hummed lightly, probably caught off guard by the slight affection in the actions but settled. Warmth fluttered against where Ventis small body was pressed, he found himself satisfied with it as if some contact was what he'd been unconsciously craving for much too long. It was nice. He began walking, letting the lovely quiet grace his ears. The gentle sound of gravel under his boots, the steady breathing of Venti half asleep against his chest (man boobs) was all he needed in the moment.
When he arrived home the maids seemed already to be asleep. Which had been expected. Other then adeline of course, who had waited to lecture him about coming home and getting a proper rest, before she saw Venti curled in his arms. Hesitating she let him through with little lecture, only asking a soft "should I prep the guest room?" To which Diluc shook his head. He wanted.. no needed venti with him tonight. Especially with how sad he looked sitting at that bar. He pressed a gentle kiss to Ventis forehead once he was in his room, setting him down despite Ventis soft whining of protest. He quickly covered the small archon before he hurriedly began to change into his night attire. He'd considered the pros and cons of changing Venti, but without the bards consent he felt it would be inappropriate. So he settled next to Venti, tentative hands reaching as the thought of holding him closer overwhelmed his senses with a need to. But Venti beat him to it, half asleep he turned and smooshed his face right into Diluc with a content hum. Diluc sighed affectionately at that and let the steady warmth drift him off.
It must've been daylight for at least a good 2 hours when Diluc awoke, later then the winery owner would normally rise. It must've been, he noticed, the distinct lack of Venti in his bed abruptly, the bed warm where the bard must've just risen. He turned and got ready to get up when he was met with Venti sitting contently on a window sill, staring at the flowers in the field with a sad look in his eyes. Diluc moved much quicker now, Popping his head out and softly asking a just passing maid to grab him some apple cider, an apple and 2 glasses. She seemed to understand the intention, nodding politely before turning and running off. Diluc turned and saw Venti now looking at him. He must've not been as subtle as he hoped. But nonetheless Venti let a small smile curve his features.
"My my! Is the sought after master Diluc soft a for a simple bard?" Despite the teasing lit he could hear the exhaustion in the soft bright voice. Diluc only huffed a soft "I suppose I am." Taking a delight in the wide eyed look Venti gave, mouth opening and pink quickly flooding his features. The maid popped in after a small knock, setting the requested items on the table before leaving the lovers alone.
He saw Ventis gaze gentle as Diluc quickly grabbed an apple and peeled it with ease. Venti watched silent for only a moment "you know I'm immortal right?" Diluc paused his peeling for only a moment, before responding "I'm aware." Venti stared at Dilucs hands before continuing "One day just like everyone else I'll outlive you. Shouldn't you find a lover you can truly spend the rest of your life with?" Diluc hummed, a smile perking as he gently glanced at the bard "I'm more then happy living my life by your side Venti. If I wasn't I wouldn't have agreed to date you." Venti stared at him scrutinizingly before relaxing with a content nod.
Chapter 16: Hesitancy
Summary:
It's rare that the bard second guesses so openly
And it awakens a mild worry for what must be on his mind for him to pause like that. Only enhanced by the dismissing "ah, nevermind" with a small sad smile
Chapter Text
Diluc let out a tired sigh at the "master diluccc!"that filled the air from cherry lips, turning and facing Venti. Venti was smiling as usual,except now it truly didn't reach his eyes. It caused diluc to pause and stare as Venti seemed to go through the motions of asking for a glass of wine. Diluc gave it with much less argumentative fanfare, brows furrowed in concern.
“Bard.” Venti paused and looked up “are you quite alright?” Venti hesitated, Venti never hesitated before responding with a tight smile. “I- ah nevermind. I'm fine my dear bartender!” Diluc's eyes narrowed, before he dropped it for now. It would do no one any good to pressure the bard to spill his gts in public. Instead he gently reached forward and placed a warm hand on Ventis head.
Venti blinked, eyes widening before they glossed over. Diluc inhaled sharply as small tears began to drip down pale cheeks. Venti himself seemed surprised, shakily bringing his hands to wipe his tears while mumbling apologies. Diluc softened, shushing him gently and helping wipe his cheeks. Kaeya, having arrived a while earlier seemed to notice the mild chaos between the two, humming and deciding to cover for them abruptly stood so he'd shield Venti "ah man master diluc~ seems like Ventis had too much and you need to walk him home again!"
Dilucs eyes narrowed before he muttered a soft "thanks" with an agreeing nod for the prying eyes and walked around the bar. He leaned down so Ventis' head buried into his neck, sniffling as he asked a soft "may I?" And earned a small nod. Venti was light, being a god of wind it perhaps shouldn't have been surprising. Diluc left after assuring Charles would be okay with the 2 hours left of the shift and Kaeya promising to help with rowdy drunks. He let his warm hands massage slow circles into the bard's hair. Venti pulled back a little at some point, admitting that it had been a rougher day today, apparently an old geo friend had passed unexpectedly and it absolutely destroyed the bard emotionally to lose another friend. Diluc frowned sympathetically, rubbing circles into trembling shoulders. "I offer my condolences for your loss." Venti nodded dully, biting his bottom lip softly before he sighed and relaxed into the grip "I know you're not privy to touch at times master Diluc, but would you be alright cuddling with me tonight?" Diluc hummed an affirmative, pressing soft lips to tousled black-teal hair.
Chapter Text
When Master Diluc returned to the winery it had already reached nightfall. Diluc had a slight limp as he did his best to quietly make his way inside. It seemed his combate against the abyss order and keeping mondstat safe had made the abyss order determined to remove him, sending stronger enemies that were difficult to defeat while keeping a low profile. Diluc sucked a breath through his teeth as he dropped his claymore a little too hard, landing heavily against his wooden floor with a dull thud. Diluc stood still for a moment, waiting for any movement to show he’d accidentally woken someone. He didn't hear a single shift, breathing a sigh of relief he turned the corner to the kitchen to grab a glass of grape juice (his personal reward for a patrol well done) only to be met with a very asleep Venti. Diluc froze, breath hitching. Hesitantly Diluc walked forward and peeked at the angelic face from a better angle. The bard was resting his head on his pale arms, an untouched bowl of barbatos ratatouille in front of Venti long gone cold. Diluc noticed a bit away from that was a second bowl, cooked with the additions he liked to add. Diluc grimaced, guilt making an ever expanding pit in his stomach.
Venti must've finished his bard duties earlier, cooked (Venti refused to share the recipe for barbatos ratatouille) and waited for him to come home for dinner.
Diluc placed a hand on the dark hair of the bard and gently stroked it before Venti shifted and shot up. A smile lit on teal eyes the second they saw Diluc, followed by the sweet voice chirping a “Master Diluc! You're home!” and soon Diluc was enveloped in a tight hug by smaller arms. Diluc only felt his guilt rise to his throat when Venti quickly pulled him over to the dinner, so as a small apology and hearing his lovely bard pout a soft “sorry dinners cold now.” he used his vision to gently reheat their meals, much to Venti's delight.
However it wasn't long before Venti finished and pulled the medical supplies he’d already seemed to have prepared, sizing Diluc up with a determined look. “Show me the wounds.” Diluc hesitated, despite the tone Venti used left little to argue. Ventis' gaze hardened and Diluc quickly stripped down to his thin cream colored shirt and rolled his pants up. Venti smiled sweetly (in a “you may live another night” way) before he got to work assessing the injuries and helping treat what he could.
Ventis' fingers were as light as the wind as he gently pressed a warm kiss to bruised knuckles. Diluc huffed but couldn't help the bright blush that flooded his face. He still was barely starting to get used to any affectionate touch offered to him. Soon, Venti deemed him okay enough before he sent Diluc to the church tomorrow; Venti grabbed his bigger hand and helped him up the steps. Smiling and chatting away about his day, a small frown only sprouted when he mentioned a foreign drunkard who came to try mondstats wine getting angry at Venti for singing his “stupid songs” and attempting to attack the poor bard before he was escorted out. Diluc would find the man later, for now they would apologize via indulging anything the bard desired. Whether it be his whole winery or the rest of Dilucs life. He hoped for the latter but knew better than to hope the wind would stay in one place.
Chapter Text
Rage burned under the red head's skin as he heard his friend talk, nose busted. Apparently his friend, Charlie was the newest target of barbatos schemes. Barbatos being a gang in the school per say, the ring leaders real name is Venti, and he's closely followed by his dogs, xiao, albedo, Aether, Lumine, Childe, Barbara(Diluc is still worried that she's manipulated into that), and even his brother Kaeya had apparently joined. They had apparently had made a name for themselves beating up the biggest and the baddest of gangsters(barbara not pariciparing, just being a healer), and had ruthlessly bullied anyone who stood in his way. It made Diluc feel sick to his stomach. Why cause so much havoc just to look tough?
Diluc was even more disgusted when Kaeya had joined them and Jean refused to bring any issue with it up to the school, which only concerned Diluc further. He tried talking to Kaeyas boyfriend Albedo to have a talk with his brother. After of course him and Kaeya getting into many arguments. Albedo simply smiled softly and said there was more to the group than being gangsters and that he supported Kaeya. Diluc would've tried to plead but Kaeya had just come in and was pissed Diluc was “harassing his boyfriend”. (Diluc apologized to Albedo and left after, not meaning to make the alchemist uncomfortable.)
And so here Diluc was, in his signature ‘dark knight hero’ disguise and following close behind Venti to observe and gather proof that he wasn’t crazy. He felt his breath hitch as Venti seemed to hear him when he accidentally kicked a rock, turning his head with a slightly smug smile, making Diluc mentally curse along the lines of ‘shit I'm so caught-’ before a much louder noise caught the braided haired individual. For once his ‘dogs’ weren't around him, and Diluc wasn't sure if that made him more or less worried about the actions of barbatos leader Venti.
He peeked his head in and felt the air leave his lungs; there the rather small Venti was surrounded by at least 5 guys several scales above Venti and Dilucs weight class. Diluc bit his lip, Venti had gotten himself into this and should deal with his consequences, but if he dies here it was blood on Dilucs hands. So he sucked in a breath and moved to help when he froze in front of the alley. There, at the small male's feet were the men, Diluc had been too lost in thought to even hear a brief struggle. Venti turned, braid tips still glowing in power when he playfully pouted "so you're the one following little ol me! To think I'd get the honor of the dark knight hero's attention!~" Diluc felt his breath hitch, shit shit shit he was dead- when he saw it. blood begins to drip down Ventis' nose in a lazy trickle. Venti paused, bringing a hand up before grimacing, mumbling a woozy “Xiao is gonna be soooo mad” before his knees gave out. Diluc moved on instinct, catching the black haired boy with ease when he noticed Venti began to fall.
Venti grimaced, mumbling a small apology and muttering about overdoing it again when Diluc heard rushed footsteps. He turned in time to see Xiao, Aether right behind him. Xiao was g l o w e r I n g at him, and Diluc began realizing how bad this looked as Xiao summoned his weapon. "Hold on one second I didn't-" he was cut off but the small boy still in his arms "he didn't hurt me Xiao, he was just trying to help, I overdid it.. again." He saw Xiao pause, one second turned into 2, before Xiao huffed and put his weapon away before walking over and gently lifted Venti with practiced movement, immediately mamabirding him softly. Aether was looking at him with an obvious recognition before huffing a soft "I'd go sir, it won't be good for your reputation to be near us." Diluc only managed a nod before fleeing just as he noticed a flash of familiar blue.
It was three days later and Diluc still found himself near Venti again. Except now despite his own obvious bias he was honestly starting to doubt Charlie's story. From what he had observed Venti honestly didnt act overly violent in any way. It all was rather fishy. And it seemed recently Venti had caught him observing once more, and decided to become a nuisance with a bright smile and sing songy voice. Today it seemed Venti decided to gleefully make conversation, or more so teasing, Diluc supposed "I really like your hair sir Diluc! Red is such a lovely color for you!~" Diluc only glared sharply in response, fighting back blush so Venti didn't make another comment. Of course not even remotely discouraged he continued talking. Then it seemed someone took advantage of Ventis guard being down to attack. It happened fast, one minute Venti was talking about his cat allergies the next he was stumbling back holding his heavily bleeding nose from a man who'd been hidden in the ally they were walking past (Diluc was sensing a pattern with bloody noses at this point). Diluc on instinct immediately punched the attacker back at least 6 times harder. The guy, with greasy brown hair, a big build with a little bit of chub, and a sad stubble sputtered and coughed from the gut punch. Diluc took the opportunity of the man dropping to his knees to kick him hard once in the face. The man dropped heavily still wheezing, shakily as he pushed himself up he began screaming at the dark haired singer “YOU DESTROYED MY GANG YOU SONOFABITCH, I’LL KILL YOU” Diluc cut him off with another kick, disgusted by the man.
Diluc paused, so this was one of the people had helped getting rid of. The man was out cold within minutes anyways, Diluc didn't bother questioning him. Venti hummed a soft “thank you for the help-” before Diluc cut him off by pressing a handkerchief under Venti's nose gently. He saw the singer's breath stutter as he whispered a “you don't have to-” before Diluc cut him off “it was my fault your guard was down.” he saw Ventis' smile fall slightly. Diluc himself had no idea but Venti had maybe possibly hoped Diluc was actually worried. But of course the redhead had his own morals that trumped anything else. Eyes downcast Venti quietly took the handkerchief and began walking with Diluc once more. Diluc immediately sensed he must've said something, biting his lip at the abrupt lack of bubbly chatter Diluc cut through the silence “you were telling be about how you sang for cat tail right?” he saw Ventis' eyes widen at the fact Diluc had even listened before the bright smile was back.
They didnt bring up the fallen gang member, but a few pieces were starting to fall into place in Dilucs mind. It was a few days later when Venti was clinging to Diluc's arm, purring his words with a smug sort of glee when he saw the flush flicker over Dilucs face. Diluc honestly couldn't help it, finding out the rather bubbly singer wasn't a huge dick had allowed Diluc to acknowledge how… pretty he was and Venti clinging to him did weird things to his heart. He had flirted back a bit in his own way, brushing the hair from Venti's face and kissing the strands gently, too gentlemanly to do much more obscure things. Venti had burned a bright red and was a stuttering mess after. Diluc had chuckled at him as the singer buried his face in his hand and melted into Dilucs side.. perhaps he could get used to this.
But now it seemed fate had been too kind and decided to throw in a tad bit of chaos. Charlie, who Diluc had distanced himself from after finding him harassing Sucrose for a date (who albedo had warned he'd smash charlies knees and replace his blood with pyro jelly before Diluc could do a thing and had kaeya swooning), stood in front of them. He felt Venti tense and saw Ventis lovely smile pull into a tight frown as he hummed an icy “ah, its you.” Charlie snarled at the singer before turning his betrayed glare to Diluc and speaking “what the hell are you doing with that thing ‘Luc? Dont you remember what they did to me?!” Venti opened his mouth to argue but Diluc stepped forward “its Diluc to you now Charlie, after you harassed Albedo's assistant, and I doubt now that you didn't do anything to deserve it."
Charlie's gaze darkened, flickering to Venti with a snarl "he's fucking manipulating you Luc'! What would I have done to get my nose broke! " Ventis hand tightened on Dilucs as he responded "maybe don't try and force yourself onto Kaeya and I won't break you fucking nose then asshole." Dilucs gaze darkened, this fucker had tried to force himself on not only Sucrose but also his fucking brother?! Charlie snipped an icy "oh you know that he wouldn't settle for a cheap blonde doll-" before a resounding crunch was heard. Diluc was surprised someone got to the fuck before he broke his jaw(again), but was less surprised to see Kaeya fuming as he snarled out a "instult me all you want you fucking creep, but you dare say a word about albedo again and I'll turn you tiny cock into a fucking icicle and shove it down your throat." Charlie snarled out a "whore" holding his jaw. That was when Diluc understood. From the encounters Ventis had it seemed like Venti wasn't Just a bully. He was taking care of garbage people, and Kaeya had joined shortly after Charlie's nose was broken… a lot was clicking as Kaeya snarled out one last warning before Charlie scampered off. Kaeya turned to Diluc, glancing at Ventis reassuring smile before relaxing minutely. "So you're finally getting it?" Diluc nodded, chewing his lip before responding verbally "I do. And I owe you and Albedo an apology. I should've trusted your judgment and not bothered Albedo." Kaeya softened, glancing away as he scratched the back of his nape "I'm sorry too, Albedo kinda tore into me when I got pissed at you, telling me you were just being a brother." Said blonde decided to make himself known, finally jogging up enough to catch up to Kaeyas side with a huff of "I told you to wait for me sir Alberich." Earning a dramatic plead from an apologizing kaeya about 'please bedo not the formal names!' and such that Diluc tuned out, turning to Venti with a soft "are you alright?" Venti blinked up at him before a small smile made it's way onto balmed lips "I don't know.. maybe you could kiss the anger away?" Diluc sputtered, burning a bright red as kaeya made a fake gag motion with a fond smile. Venti did manage to steal a peck before running off with Dilucs hairband, the little shit he is.
It came to a surprise to everyone when the dark knight hero had been seen joining barbatos group, oddly his hair untied being the only change.
Chapter 21: One bed AND blanket hog!?1?!1
Summary:
Venluc has to share a hotel room, but Diluc hogs blanket! Gasp! Whatever will our musical Twink do! (This is short cause I have 12k words in drafts and need to post help)
Implied friends/kinda lovers
Chapter Text
Diluc and Venti were friends. Tentative unlikely friends but friends nonetheless. Of course there was an obvious romantic tension that neither acknowledged and was currently coming to a head as Diluc spoke to the sweet receptionist. "You mean there's really only one room with one bed?" Diluc repeated back, sounding nervous. The black haired receptionist nodded, smiling politely as she apologized. Diluc sighed, rubbing his temple. "... We'll take it." He said ultimately and handed over the mora. He took the key politely and led Venti to the room. "I can sleep on the floor Venti, go ahead and take the bed."
"Ever the gentleman Diluc! But I'm used to sleeping outside so I don't mind sleeping on the floor my Cecilia." Diluc shook his head.
"That's more reason for you to take the bed, you deserve to be comfortable. Diluc insisted, red eyes gentle but showing his stubbornness. Venti swore it ran in the Ragnvindr blood to be stubborn as bulls.
Venti spoke in a sing-songy voice "how about we just share the bed! I don't think I could sleep with you on the cold hard floor! Plus with how warm you are I wouldn't have any complaints!~" Venti hummed, definitely over exaggerating the hardness. Of the very fluffy floor under their feet. But Diluc huffed and agreed with a head shake and hidden smile.
Despite the implications of how Diluc was warm, Venti didn't actually snuggle up to him. Diluc wouldn't admit he was disappointed as he slowly let sleep take him, back to Venti. Venti fell asleep shortly after.
Venti tossed and turned in his sleep, noticing something was off as he sleepily woke. He realized how.. cold he was. Blinking sleepily he turned around and realized Diluc must've accidentally taken the blanket fully. Sighing he snuggled a bit closer and tried to take some blanket back unsuccessfully. Diluc was a strong man and had a death grip on the blanket. Venti in his mooshed brain considered the pros and cons of just snuggling up to Diluc to try and get /some/ warmth. And half asleep he did just that, small arms wrapping around the pyro wielding redhead. He smiled and almost let himself fall asleep despite feeling cold when he heard Diluc slur a soft "what're you doin?"
Venti cuddled closer, mumbling almost inaudibly "you took the blankets." Diluc hummed, turning and wrapping Venti back under the blanket and now pressed into Diluc's warm chest instead of the blanket covered back he had been before. Venti hummed and snuggled closer.
Chapter 22: Venti gets his hair brushed and I'm not dead!
Chapter Text
Venti had been laid across the tree, lyre strummed slowly as he sung softly. “Sie waren verliebt
Und fast noch Kinder-” when the wind carried the sounds of his betrothed to him. He quickly sat up and stood on the branch. He bent his knees and leapt from the tree, and ignored how his clothing and hair caught on the leaves and sticks. His eyes glimmered as hr landed on Diluc, who readily caught him. Diluc raised a brow at the mess appearance but didn't comment.
“Good to see you too bard. “ he huffed, red eyes soft for only venti. “A warning may be good next time though."
Venti hummed, grin brightening his face “but I know you'll catch me darling."
Diluc rolled his eyes with a smile, carrying Venti to the winery with firm and easy steps as they discussed their day and the adventures they'd been on.
And now at the winery Venti pouted from where he was splayed on the unmade bed. “Is it really that bad sunshine? I dont thing i got that many leaves and sticks in my hair!”
Diluc rubbed his temple, smile threatening at the edges of his mouth. “Well maybe it wouldn't be if someone didnt jump through a tree because they saw me.”
Venti grinned, round eyes turning into something mischievous “i was excited to see you! Youve been awfully busy yknow, Meine Liebe.” he stood and practically floated over. “I cant help if ive missed you.” he smiled up at diluc, knowing from the half hearted sigh and hand gently placed on his hip that he’d won.
Diluc thought for a moment. “I’ll wash your hair and rebraid it for you okay?” venti nodded and diluc let a small smile tug the edges of his face.
When venti was curled in the bath looking more like a wet cat then he’d admit diluc grabbed the soap. It was in the smell of lampgrass. Which had the effect of glowing at night, an interesting aspect that drove up the price a fair bit. First Diluc carefully removed any large debri, careful not to tug the smooth hair, then he placed the soap on his hands and went in on the hair, soothingly rubbing his hands into the scalp. Venti leaned into the touch, a god who rarely had participated in intimate luxuries tries to enjoy when it happens. Diluc carefully washed the hair, using a hand to shield ventis eyes when he carefully poured the water to wash the soap out. Unconsciously hed been keeping the tub water warm with his vision, humming a low tune his father taught him.
When venti left the bath he let diluc carefully dry his hair. Neither considered how venti could dry off with anemo. Diluc warmed his hands as he brushed the fingers through the still moistened hair, a peaceful silence had fallen over the two. When they made it back to bed they fell in bed together in each other's arms, cuddled up and comfortable with each other
Chapter 23
Summary:
whoop whoop enemies to lovers sorta!!
Chapter Text
Diluc's breath came out in sharp puffs as he dodge another blast of ice, muttering curses. Two abyss mages, one a pyro and the other a cyro. Just his luck. His charged attacks wouldn’t do much to the shield of the pyro and it slowed him to try and make the cyro hit its acompolice; But he managed. Diluc grit his teeth when ice encompassed his shoes suddenly, just as a beam of heat shot his way. Diluc raised his blade to try and deflect what he could when he heard a distinct yell. Venti, who’d dipped his arrows in water, was firing anemo charged shots. The cyro abyss mage was frozen instantly and the pyros shield was rapidly weakening. Finally the pyro shield gave out and the mage collapsed. Diluc took the moment to launch a flurry of attacks, dispatching the pyro mage with efficacy. Without thinking he launched his dawn attack at the cyro mage, realizing too late Venti was in radius. He cursed under his breath and yelled to warn venti. Venti, ever quick on his feet, dodged most of the attack, only burning his arm somewhat.
Diluc grimaced, ignoring the flutter of guilt as Venti finished off the cyro abyss mage. Venti sighed in relief, turning to the pyro user with furrowed brows. Before he could utter a word Diluc had crossed the clearing and pinned him to the tree with a sharp red eyed gaze. “Why did you follow me, better yet, why did you help? I had it handled.”
Venti met his gaze head on, ignoring the stinging pain in his arm. “As an archon it's my job to protect my people, until they claim they don't want me to.'' His tone was gentle, calm. “I apologize that I gave you a negative impression of me master diluc, but I assure you-” the black and teal haired god was cut off as an arm pressed harsher to his throat.
“Don't bullshit me. If archons were all that great then how do explain the chaos in inazuma?! How do explain Liyues abandoning them when they needed it?” diluc leaned in closer, the height of adrenaline fueling his buried anger, relighting the spark. “If you are so caring, why is my father dead?”
Venti did not gasp when he was released, but continued to meet dilucs eyes ``i am not the archon of inazuma or liyue diluc, they're individuals with their own decision. As for your father.. I cant take away someones freedom, he knew the risk.” he took a breath, shallow “just like i didnt stop you from going on your suicidal rampage.'' Diluc flinched, eyes dark.
Diluc turned away and grabbed his blade. “Get out of my sight barbatos.” His voice was cold. Venti said not a word, turning and disappearing into the windy night. After the archon was gone Diluc glanced around and noticed a charred piece of fabric. Ventis. He sighed and rubbed his temple, exhausted and filled with too many emotions. He hadnt meant to take his anger out on the bard, especially after accidentally hurting him. He turned and began walking to the winery; he’d try and sleep tonight, then tomorrow he'd find venti and apologize.
Diluc lay in bed that night tossing and turning as usual, he was about to give up despite the exhaustion weighing into his limbs when he heard something. A small soft voice carried by the wind with a soothing melody. Before diluc could process it he’d fallen asleep.
The next morning he rose bright and early, feeling more refreshed than he had in a long while. He cringed at his actions last night and went down to the wine cellar after asking Adeline to retrieve bandages and burn cream. He carefully sifted through the wine types, trying to guess what would qualify as a good apology. Venti obviously didn’t drink to get drunk, so strength wasn't an issue. He liked apples and dandelion wine so something on the sweeter side would be satisfactory. Finally he decided on a particularly sweet wine from an old harvest, packing it and the supplies in a simple bag. He considered grabbing a cecilia but that felt too romantic for what he was trying to accomplish.
He found Venti strumming his lyre on the windrise tree, voice just as bright. But his motions were a bit
toned down, since he wasn't trying to move the injury too much. Diluc scaled the tree with ease, venti unsurprised by the addition as he slowed his song to a gentle finish. Then he turned those sharp teal eyes on diluc. “My my! Master diluc coming all the way to little old me? What do I owe this honor?” he purred, eyes calm despite the teasing tone. Diluc nodded, brows pinched as he’d put himself back into an unusual situation.
He offered the wine silently, a peace offering of sorts to break the ice. Venti accepted it with a surprised hum, eyes widening just enough for diluc to notice before it was gone diluc took a breath before he began. “I owe you an apology for my unruly and cruel behavior. I acted inappropriately and hurt you in the process.” it sounded professional and robotic even to his own ears, he had been genuine but he wasn't used to apologizing. Shame tickled along his cheeks with a red hue, how humiliating. He cleared his throat to avoid the piercing doe eyes and pulled out the bandages and burn cream. “...may I treat your wound? I was the cause and I should take accountability." Venti hummed but wordlessly rolled the sleeve of his new undershirt up. Diluc swallowed as he warmed the cream on his fingers just barely. He applied it slowly and carefully, venti did not supply a flinch even, humming a wordless tune to soothe the broad tense shoulders of the red head. Diluc wrapped the wound with careful efficacy. Finally Venti turned with a mischievous gleam.
"If master diluc really has to take responsibility for me, then how about a date?” his grin was broad and wide but there was a softness in his eyes, letting diluc know not to feel obligated to.
Diluc weighed the pros and cons and sighed. “I suppose it couldn’t hurt… I'll come get you a bit past noon.”
Venti smiled, lips curling sweetly “I'll see you then master diluc.” and was gone in a flash of teal.
