Letters

Summary:

Pietro falls in love with his college classmate Natasha, but doesn't know how to win her over. His sister Wanda gives him the idea of writing her anonymous love letters, until Natasha has the need to know the identity of their author. What Wanda didn't know was that it would be her who would end up falling in love with the Russian girl.

Notes:

Hi! Just for context, the siblings are not in the same college classroom. Wanda is studying Classical Literature and Pietro and Natasha are studying Physical Activity and Sport Sciences.

I do not own any of the characters, they belong to Marvel.

Chapter 1: Do it for me

Chapter Text

The two brothers met after the first day of college. It had been a long day, but fun; they had made new friends.

-Come on, sis, get in the car. -Pietro was waiting for Wanda at the door of the building from which the young woman was leaving.

The orange-haired young woman took the passenger seat as she looked at her silver-headed brother, who looked smiling. "How was your first day, Pietro?"

The boy looked at his sister before pulling away, "I've fallen in love, Wands" "Not again," Wanda giggled.

-She's a fascinating girl. You should see her, her name is Natasha. She ran the fastest time in the women's steeplechase today. I think she might even get me in serious trouble if she ran against me. She's a redhead with some killer curves. And... she learned my name.

-Wow, Pietro, that was quite an accomplishment. I hope she didn't learn it because you were a pain in the ass. We women don't like this.

-No, no. Really... I was very embarrassed. It was because we played a game of introducing ourselves by passing each other a rugby ball. And at the end of the lessons... she told me: "Goodbye, Pietro".

-Maybe you got her attention, huh?  -Wanda looked away from the window and back at her brother.

-I don't know... but... if that's the case... I think I'm going to pass out!

Pietro acted like he was fainting on top of the steering wheel, which caused Wanda to panic, "Go back to looking at the road, stupid!" They both laughed.

[...]

Wanda came out of the bathroom after a relaxing shower, made herself comfortable and went to dinner before going to her room to review what they had studied that day. She was really a very dedicated girl, in fact, she had always been the best in her class. And this year, she planned to be the best in her class at the university, as always.

While she was eating a salad, Pietro appeared in the kitchen. "Sis, I didn't ask about your day, how was it?"

They both sat down on the living room couch.

-It went well, actually. Thor and I are in the same group, thankfully! I think he's fallen in love, there's a pretty girl in the front row named Jane. But, you know, he can get pretty stupid when he falls in love, so he hasn't wanted to admit to me that he's attracted to Jane.

-I hope he falls in love with Jane. If by any chance he sees MY Natasha, he's going to fall in love and I don't want to have another competitor.

-Another one?  I don't understand you.

-I don't... I don't know him. There's a blond guy named Steve, he sat next to her in the second period. And they laughed a lot.

-Maybe they've met before? You don't have to assume he's been trying to win her over since minute 0. -Wanda tried to put some sanity into it.

Pietro shook the silver hair, still damp after the shower, trying to heed his sister and dispelling the image of Steve and Natasha already at the altar.

-And you, Wands, haven't you fallen in love?

-Mmm, no. There are cute guys, but... I don't know. I do want to get close to a boy in class though, I think he could be fun, I see him as similar to me.

-Who is he? -Pietro opened his eyes in surprise, usually Wanda didn't even think about approaching anyone. In fact, he doesn't know how she and Thor became such good friends, if Wanda is always quiet.

-He's blond, has deep blue eyes, and wears very nerdy glasses. I think he calls himself Vision... I haven't been able to figure out his real name.

-How mysterious, and alluring... isn't he, sis? -Pietro smiled mischievously.

-Not really. But he looks funny. Maybe Thor and I will tell him to go to the cafeteria together.

They were silent for a few seconds.

-I'm sorry if I'm pushy about Natasha, but I'd like to propose a date... not now, but in a while, I don't want to pressure her either.

-What if you write her anonymous romantic notes? Finally, if she's interested, she'll want to know your identity. -Wanda proposed such an idea, remembering the last love book she read in the summer. She would have loved to have someone do something like that to her.

-Mm, sounds like a good idea. But, I'm really bad at saying romantic things. Maybe you should help me, sis. I'll give you anything you want in return.

-Come on Pietro, don't be silly, I'll help you. You don't have to give me anything, but maybe if I accept an invitation to the new smoothie place downtown.

They both laughed. "Done, sis."  Pietro hugged Wanda, depositing a resounding kiss on her cheek.

Chapter 2: First letter, first meeting

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

A few days passed since the start of college, Pietro was really excited because he was getting along well with Natasha. That same morning, they did an exercise in pairs and came out winners. The silver-haired boy came home excited.

Wanda, who was already there because she had missed the last hour's class, greeted him with joy. She had prepared a delicious apple pie, a favorite of both of them.

-I don't believe it, Wands. Is that Mom's apple pie? It smells the same.
-I found her recipe book yesterday when I was sorting through some papers, and since I was home early today....

Pietro hugged his sister and they began to tell each other about the day as they enjoyed the pie.

-And so you won? You and Natasha?
-Yes, sis. We had the best time in the test. But the best part was when I got the high-five, I could have fainted right then and there. She's really beautiful...

Pietro got up from the couch and went to his backpack to pull out a pen and his notebook, from which he tore a sheet of paper. "It's time, sis. I'm going to send Nat the first letter." Wanda sat up on the couch. "And now you're expecting me to...dictate what to write, I suppose." The young man nodded. The young redhead crossed her legs and wrinkled her nose, as she always did when she was thinking.

-But I hardly know anything about her, Pietro. And I don't know what you feel, either, or what you want to say to her.

-You're right. Let's see... she, her green eyes, are deep and when she looks at me, I feel my legs start to give out and I become useless, I can't even pronounce coherent words when she's around me. She is also very quiet, I wish I could know what goes through her mind, it makes me very, very curious....

Wanda listened attentively, trying to put together a letter that expressed what Pietro was feeling, but without sounding like a real stalker.

-How about this: "Dear emerald-eyed girl, I'd like to know what's going on in your mind. Because, to be honest with you, only you go through my mind. I wish you could give me a little chance."

Pietro was quiet for a few seconds, pondering. Finally, he spoke. "I don't think I could have said it better, Wanda. Though if she finally accepts, she won't think I write so well, I'm an idiot."  He wrote down what Wanda told him on a small piece of paper and tucked it into his backpack. The next day, he would try to sneak it between the pages of some book of Natasha's.

[...]

Wednesday morning. Wanda walks in a hurry to the next class, as she had stayed longer than expected consulting some doubts to the teacher from the previous hour. The text they had to interpret was driving her crazy.

Down the same hallway, a young woman with red hair, but darker than Wanda's, is hurrying somewhere. The two collided as they turned the corner. Wanda found herself on the floor, her books scattered around her. As she looked up, the beautiful girl in sportswear was holding out her hand.

-I'm so sorry! - said the young woman -I'm looking for Professor Banner, he told me he would be in this building...

-Oh, I was just with him... he's in classroom 302. -Wanda took her hand to get up and felt herself getting lost in the green eyes of the girl, who had picked up her books and was handing them to her.

They were both silent for a second that turned out to be like an eternity. The unknown girl thanked Wanda for the information and ran off. Wanda just stood there, her heart racing.

-Oh, darn, I'll be late, Professor Barnes is going to scold me!

But luckily, Mr. Barnes had not arrived. Thor and Vision were waiting for her, showing Wanda the place they had saved for her.

-Thank you, guys. I bumped into a girl and was running late....

-Who? The redhead?

-Yeah, she was looking for Banner...

-I wish I had bumped into Natasha- said Thor.- She's from sports, she's a dream girl.

-Yes, she's really very attractive. -Vision adjusted his glasses with his index finger.

-Nat...Natasha?

Wanda felt short of breath as Thor asked her if Pietro knew Natasha.

Chapter 3: Smoothies and pics

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

It was Friday and Pietro was not going to break his promise to take Wanda out for a smoothie. On Fridays classes were only in the morning, so they could go out in the afternoon. And Wanda had already finished all her homework, she really was a very dedicated girl.

-I hope I can park near the new ice cream parlor.

-If you park far away nothing will happen either, Pietro. We can walk a little to digest the smoothies. -Wanda laughed, mischievously.

-My metabolism is so extremely fast that I'll order 4 smoothies and it'll be like a sip of water for me.

-I've always envied that about you, I wish I could say the same!

They arrived, and as expected, the ice cream parlor was packed. A brightly lit smoothie sign adorned the shop, accompanied by as many red, blue and white sprinkles donut signs. After more than 15 minutes waiting in line, it was finally their turn. Pietro placed the order, as usual, as Wanda was too embarrassed to mumble a word.

They sat down at one of the tables upstairs, which was less crowded. Wanda smeared Pietro's nose with cream as they laughed and joked. Suddenly, down the stairs appeared Steve and Natasha, carrying smoothies and donuts.

-Hey, Pietro, can we sit with you?

The silver-haired boy reddened violently, as he wiped the cream off his nose. Wanda turned around: there she was, the girl from the hallway, approaching them as if in slow motion. And behind her, a handsome muscular young man with golden hair and sapphire eyes.

They waved again and Steve took a seat next to Pietro, who felt that the sweet smoothie was beginning to taste bitter. Natasha took her place next to Wanda. She looked at her closely, causing the young woman's heart to almost stop.

-You... you are that girl!!! The one who told me where Professor Banner was! Thanks to you I was able to give him my essay, I was practically out of time. I forgot it at home and had to run there and back... thank you.

-Y-you're welcome. Wanda smiled. Natasha was gorgeous.

-Sorry, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Natasha, I'm Pietro's classmate, your...boyfriend?

-No, no! He's my brother. My twin. I'm Wanda, nice to meet you.

-I'm Steve, also Pietro's classmate.

-Nice to meet you, Steve.

The cute boy smiled at her, he was really handsome. Pietro didn't know which was worse, Natasha being Steve's girlfriend, or Steve being his little sister's boyfriend. His stomach was completely upset.

They were talking for a long time. It turns out that Steve and Nat were childhood friends. They met in third grade, when Natasha moved out of town. The students in her class didn't want to play with her because of her accent, but Steve was the only one who got close to little Tasha.

-Remember when I had to entertain your parents because Tony was home? - Nat said. They both laughed.

-Tony was my "boyfriend" in high school. We're not together anymore, but we're very good friends. He went to college early, he's gifted.

Pietro breathed calmly, "Steve is gay, that gives me an advantage."

-But it was worse the time you almost got caught kissing Sharon in the backyard at school, Stevie.

"Shit, he's bi." Pietro stops eating again.

They spent a nice afternoon together. After eating, they strolled along the promenade near the ice cream parlor. Wanda, despite her shyness, was beginning to feel comfortable around them. She even cracked a few jokes.

-What if we took a picture together? -Natasha unlocked her smartphone.

They took a few pics together, because someone always complained that it came out wrong. Finally they chose one.

-Let's see... I'll put a "Friday" sticker on it. And I'll tag you: @steve_rogers,... hey! Tell me your user, I'll follow you.

"@nat_romanov_ is following you now"

Pietro and Wanda received the notification almost in unison on their smartphones.

"@nat_romanov_: Smoothie friday! @steve_rogers @pmaximoff_ @maximoffwanda"

They said goodbye and went home, Pietro was on cloud nine and Wanda, why lie, too. After the shower, both siblings sat on the couch. Pietro was very quiet looking at his smartphone.

-What are you doing, Pietro?

-I'm looking at Nat's feed. This picture on the beach, playing volleyball.... wow.

Pietro handed the phone to Wanda, who blushed at the sight of Nat's shapely figure, beaming at the ball reception, while it looked like the sun was only shining to illuminate her.

-Yes, she really is very beautiful and athletic.

-What about Steve? -Pietro raised an eyebrow, wanting to know Wanda's opinion.

-Oh, he's... very cute and nice. But I don't know him from anything else either, I can't tell you.

A ringing of the phones cut off the conversation.

"@stark_tony: Model show? I can't believe how cute you all look. Introduce me to the Maximoff's!
--@steve_rogers: We should all get together when you come, Tony ;)

@yelenablv: Making friends, sis? I don't know who I like more!
--@nat_romanov: Shut up, Yelena. Always the same hahaha xxx"

-Yelena has a private profile. I can't see who she is, she doesn't even have a picture! -Pietro snorted.

-Tony is really cute. I think he and Steve make a good couple, even if they don't date anymore.

-Yes, Wanda. But both Yelena and Tony are interested in us. I don't know whether to feel triumphant or scared.

-Come on, bro, I'm sure they're just kidding.

Wanda went to bed after watching an action movie with Pietro. But she couldn't fall asleep: she only thought about Natasha's hand resting on her hip for the photo, and the moment when, while they were talking, she played with a lock of her hair, flattering it. Her smile and her eyes were truly beautiful, too.

"Maybe now I would be able to write a letter on my own, without asking Pietro". -she said with her eyes wide open in the darkness of the room.

Chapter 4: Second letter

Chapter Text

-You won't believe it, Wanda. Nat has kept the little note we wrote him. She has it in her planner, I saw it all perfectly. She didn't even show it to Steve, and she seemed pretty nervous.

Pietro came home hyperactive, throwing his backpack on the floor in a hurry. Wanda was home again, Professor Barnes had to be absent for the last hour of class.

Wanda felt her heart skip a beat, for some reason she had been feeling strange about her since the day of the photo. Thor, who was already getting to know Jane and had included her in the class group, had to pull young Wanda away from looking at the field where the students from her brother's class were doing obstacle courses. The redhead was unconsciously looking for Natasha.

Later they passed each other in the cafeteria and Wanda almost spit out her latte machiatto when Natasha waved to her from the back table. -Hey! Do you want to join us?

Wanda, Jane and Vision sat down with Natasha and Steve. Thor was pulling out some photocopies of the reading Professor Banner had requested.

-Have you seen my brother by any chance, Natasha?
-Pietro is still in class, he wanted to talk to the professor, he had some doubts, or so I think.

Wanda was surprised because Pietro never showed more interest than the standards required. In spite of his great quickness for everything, he just skimmed through the syllabus to make sure he passed. Although if the subject was of interest to him, he made sure he was at the top of the class.

-Wanda? Are you listening to me? -Pietro brought Wanda out of her flashback, where she saw Natasha again fiddling with her matte black flask of water.

-Yes, sorry, Pietro. I... today we were with Natasha and Steve... She told me you were in class.

-Oh, sis. I had to talk to the sports fundamentals teacher. He wanted to set the exam the day after the intercollegiate competition... As a class delegate, I can't allow that. He finally relented, thankfully.

They talked briefly about the meet in the cafeteria. But Pietro soon suggested writing Wanda another letter for Natasha.

-This time I have no idea what to put in it, sis.
-Let me think...

Wanda began to write on a sheet of paper carefully folded in half, almost carried by a supernatural force, without hardly stopping to think.

"Dear Natasha, I know you are curious about my identity. That's why you have saved my previous note in your planner. I won't reveal it to you yet, because I enjoy watching you from a distance.... You are beautiful, intelligent and the most athletic girl I may have ever met in my life. I love your eyes and the way they look at me when they accidentally meet in the middle of the hallway.

I wish your hands were intertwined with mine when you have the urge to fidget with whatever object you have nearby, when you feel nervous among so many familiar people. I know you need your own space as much as I need mine, because I understand you and I want to take care of you from anything that might disturb you.

Maybe it is not yet the right time to discover me, even less if you are not interested in it, but I can promise you that if you are willing, I will show you that I am a person you can trust."

Pietro was impressed by the naturalness with which Wanda had managed to capture those things about Natasha that he himself saw and did not know how to explain. His sister had always been very intelligent, no doubt.

Chapter 5: Party and friends

Chapter Text

Pietro still hadn't said anything to Wanda about the second letter, and the young woman was beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed, perhaps because she had gotten too carried away in writing it.

That Friday morning, Wanda's smartphone vibrated.
Piett <3: Party at Natasha's tonight. She invited us, Tony and Yelena are coming. She says you can bring Thor, Vis and Jane.

The redhead felt like she was going to fade away, she had only been to one party in her entire youth and to be honest, she hadn't even had a good time. Too many people and noises for her liking. She ended up convincing Pietro to go home earlier than usual.

Piett <3: Easy, sis. It's not a crowded party. It'll just be the crew + Tony and Yelena.

That reassured Wanda, who regained the rosy color of her face. She had gone totally pale from thinking about the two options she had: either not to go and hurt Pietro, or to go and have a bad time. Her group of friends agreed to go without question. Vision was particularly lively, his social life limited to his current group. Before, not even that.

[...]

Wanda got ready for the party, choosing a tight white shirt with cleavage -though not too eye-catching-, leather skinny pants through which the shirt would be tucked in, and tall black boots. The makeup she chose was not excessive. In fact, she barely wore makeup on a daily basis.

-Do I look handsome, sis? -Pietro appeared in a slightly open white shirt, chinos and formal shoes. The hair gel he had applied made the silver locks of the boy's hair shine slightly.

-Of course, darling. Natasha will fall at your feet, for sure. -Wanda smiled, adjusting the collar of her brother's shirt.

-Thank you for taking care of me as much as Mom did, Wands. I love you. You look beautiful, by the way.

Wanda wrinkled her nose, smiling, and kissed her brother's cheek. "Thank you, Pietro."

[...]

They picked up along the way Thor, Jane, and Vision, who were closer to Nat's house, but far enough away to need public transportation. When they arrived, they were surprised by the huge house. And a luxurious car in the parking lot, despite having a garage.

-It says "Stark." I'm guessing it's Tony's. -Pietro smiled.- The guy's not exactly poor.

They all laughed. Seconds later. Natasha, who had heard them arrive, opened the door for them. The Maximoff brothers were stunned by Natasha's spectacular tight-fitting black dress, highlighting her figure. It was perfectly paired with her killer stiletto heels.

-Come on in, guys. Steve, Tony and Yelena have arrived. -Natasha ushered them in. When Wanda passed by her side, she patted her arm as a sign of welcome.

In the huge lounge, music was playing in the background and the other three guests were chatting casually over a drink. Tony was the first to notice the others, rising quickly to introduce himself.

-You're the Maximoff brothers, aren't you? Natasha and Steve have told me so much about you. It's a pleasure to me. -Tony extended his hand to Pietro, who shook it firmly. Then, he took Wanda's hand carefully and kissed it, making a small bow.

Pietro felt he could choke the handsome young Stark at that very moment. Wanda blushed, Tony really was very attractive. Besides, his perfume had seeped into her nostrils and it didn't seem willing to leave.

-Don't be fooled by that idiot, beautiful Wanda. Nice to meet you, I'm Yelena. -She proceeded to do the same as Tony. Wanda was getting overwhelmed by so much attention.

Yelena, moreover, shook Pietro's hand with conviction. "You're handsome, maybe you're even Tasha's kind of guy, who knows." The silver-haired twin felt like he might faint immediately.

[...]

Natasha invited the others to pour themselves a drink. They spent some time chatting and laughing. Tony was a very funny guy, and Yelena was extremely zany. She continually got on Natasha's nerves.

Almost in the wee hours of the morning, and with a few drinks to spare, Yelena proposed to play the bottle game. And neither of them refused. Wanda, who had only ever had non-alcoholic drinks, shuddered. Such teenage dynamics only came up in her favorite books, and they almost never ended well.

-Okay, guys. I'll start, I've lost rock-paper-scissors. -Thor said.

They made quite a fuss, waiting to find out who would get the kiss from the muscular blond. Wanda could only shiver and could hardly hide it, she had begun to feel a blushing and intense heat.

The bottle spun for a few seconds that seemed like years to the redhead. Although, come to think of it, the best she could do was to kiss her best friend of years, before anyone else at the party.... Although she would rather Thor could kiss Jane at last, it seemed that none of them dared to take the plunge.

The neck of the bottle pointed to... Vision. Both blondes grimaced tremendously. "I can't believe my first kiss is with this guy." They all laughed at Vision's comment, starting to clap their hands. Thor grabbed Vis' cheeks and gave him a very short kiss, both of them quickly separating. "I don't think I'm going to recover from that." Thor covered his eyes and Jane laughed loudly.

Vision spun the bottle around after he was almost forced to. It landed on Yelena, who was snickering. "You want to get kissed for real, blondie?" Vision swallowed hard. Yelena approached Vis, simulating a striptease. Everyone was chanting for Yelena, who practically rebooted Vis with the kiss she gave him. She seemed indifferent, just laughing at the tomato red of the boy's face. "Enough game for me"-Vision laughed.

The fearless girl took another swig from her glass, swirling the bottle again. Wanda was having a good time, she had even forgotten the possibility of her own turn, as if she were a mere spectator. Until the glass bottle was pointed at her.

-I can't believe it, I'm the luckiest bitch in the fucking universe!

Wanda kept staring at the bottle, then at Pietro (who was about to faint) and finally at Yelena. Everyone was whistling except Wanda's brother, who was perfectly aware that she might be having a hard time.

-With you I'm not going to be like with Vis, princess.

Yelena brushed a lock of hair away from Wanda's flushed face. "I don't want to pressure you, sweetheart. It's just a game, okay?" -she whispered to her. Wanda nodded, wide eyes, staring at Yelena. The blonde placed a hand on her face, bringing her lips carefully closer. Wanda felt the girl's taste of alcohol and cherries and shyly continued the kiss the other guided.

They parted and Wanda laughed lightly. Yelena stroked her hand before returning to her place. "This girl is too cute. And I love her vanilla flavor."

Natasha wasn't even laughing, for some reason she was serious, somewhat worried. But Wanda turned the bottle over. And the bottle landed on Pietro. "Oh, come on. No incest, thanks." Tony rolled his eyes. "Can I fill in for you, Wands?"  Pietro started running around the room, trying to avoid the situation. But Tony was agile and ended up cornering him. Everyone was clapping, except Steve, who was taking a long drink from his glass.

Tony pulled Pietro closer, grabbing him by the neck, almost devouring the silver man's full lips. Pietro pulled away from him completely flushed, puffing. Tony returned to his seat, laughing.

-Maybe it's time to stop the kissing game, I think.

Natasha knew Steve was uncomfortable after that outing from Tony. And she wasn't in the mood to play the game anymore either.

They continued chatting and listening to music, though the mood was beginning to wane. Pietro was on the couch, Steve with his head resting on his shoulder. They had previously had a conversation about Tony and the twin felt guilty, even if in his case it was inevitable to kiss the brunet. Pietro was stroking his partner's blond hair.

The others were still talking. Jane had gone to the toilet, and Wanda? Wanda?

Natasha went in search of the girl. She found her in the kitchen, with the window slightly open, catching her breath as she looked at the floor.

-Everything all right, Wanda?
-Yes, Nat, thank you... -Wanda lied.

Natasha stood next to Wanda and looked into her eyes. The other girl could hardly hold her gaze, she felt embarrassed.

-Yelena is very intense. I tell her that very often, and she has improved, but alcohol makes her uninhibited. Still, she has been very careful with you, I never saw her like that, she surprised me...

Wanda looked at her again without saying a word. Natasha raised an eyebrow. "Oh, wait. Don't tell me that was your first kiss." The redhead nodded, and Nat hugged her. They pulled apart but Nat kept grabbing her by the hips.

-Well, we've all done silly things once. This doesn't count as your first kiss, you know. The first one will be with the person you feel... something more.

Natasha couldn't help but look down at Wanda's fleshy lips. Wanda was feeling her heartbeat quicken. She knew Natasha was looking at her lips, and she couldn't take her eyes off her or her hands from her hips.

-Wanda...

-Yes...?

They were looking at each other intently when Pietro began to call out to them. They broke up immediately.

Chapter Text

-Oh, sis. I was looking for you, I thought you were gone!

Pietro froze at the image of Natasha and Wanda, so close. But it only crossed his mind that Natasha was trying to keep Wanda in one single piece, as if she had broken into a thousand fragments. "Natasha is too cute, and she takes care of Wanda just like I would take care of her," the silver-haired one thought.

-Don't worry, Pietro. I'm fine. - Wanda looked at her brother with trembling pupils.

Natasha wanted to give the siblings privacy, but on the other hand, she felt unable to leave them. She was dazzled by the resemblance of them to each other, but even more so when both of them could arouse her feelings. Pietro aroused her tenderness, she felt something comforting in her body, like when you drink hot chocolate in the middle of freezing weather. Wanda, however, not only provoked in her a shattering feeling of protection towards her, but her wildest instincts were coming to the fore.

The siblings had been talking for a while, while Natasha pretended to erase those thoughts from her mind. "Must be the alcohol," she thought to reassure herself, knowing that it was barely having any real effect on her.

-Nat, Wanda has never given a kiss. She just went to a party and we left soon after. She... doesn't keep up with most people our age. And I need to protect my sister.

-Oh, come on, -Wanda blushed- it wasn't that bad... Yelena... was kind to me. It was just a game, I shouldn't have taken it that way either... For some reason, Yelena knew I didn't... anyway, you know.

-Yeah, that's right, Pietro. I know Yelena... she doesn't have those kind of details with just anyone. -Natasha raised an eyebrow.

Wanda felt embarrassed. She didn't know Natasha well enough yet, but she trusted her. Although, for a strange reason, she didn't want her to know how inexperienced she was.

Besides, she was still recovering from the moment before Pietro arrived. Wanda was sure that Nat was just worrying about her, just like that, and she felt tremendously guilty that she was about to fall apart in front of the girl's lips.

And lastly... she wouldn't have to be there. She should leave Pietro and Nat alone. This all started because of her brother, and she would never meddle. She should be collaborating, not getting in the way.

-I'm going to go to the toilet for a moment, wait for me here.

Wanda left without needing to, but she had to leave them alone. Always for Pietro, as Pietro always helped her. Pietro was surprised.

-Nat, maybe you think it's too much... but Wanda and I have only had ourselves, since we were very young. We have overcome many adversities together... and she is the most important person in my life. That's why I can't help but be overprotective of her sometimes.

-I understand you perfectly, Pietro. And, to be honest, I also want to protect her from everything...

Pietro felt something ignite inside him. Natasha was simply perfect, and besides, she would be able to understand the importance of Wanda in his life... He hugged Natasha tightly "Thank you, Nat." The young woman smiled at the boy's spontaneity.

Wanda, who was already returning from the bathroom, smiled at the sight of them hugging. Maybe it had been useful to be kissed by Yelena after all.

[...]

Meanwhile, Tony and Steve had gone out into the garden. Steve was indeed somewhat affected by the alcohol.

-I can't tell you anything about Pietro, but I felt bad.

-Steve, honey. We are already... we are not anything, of long ago. You know that.

-No, no! We're not, Anthony, I know that,- his voice trailed off- but for some strange reason, you always try to tell me about all your flings, or literally eat other people if I'm around. And that, you know, pisses me off. And I don't think you do it unintentionally.

The two began to argue. Wanda was the first to see them through the window, and sensed they might be in trouble.

They were able to resolve the argument between Tony and Steve, but Thor decided it was better to take Steve home. Tony had decided to leave in his car, even though he had been drinking. Pietro offered to give Steve a lift, as he had not been drinking alcohol.

-Wanda, Thor and I will drop Steve home. We'll make sure he's all right and I'll come get you guys to go home.

-Yeah, take it easy. I'll stay with the girls and Vis.

Wanda went back inside accompanied by Jane, who had latched onto her arm. "I was scared of Tony and Steve's fight... I think there are still unresolved feelings between them." Wanda nodded in agreement.

Natasha watched Jane, particularly close to Wanda. She knew Jane was just her friend, and besides, it was plain to see that she was in love with Thor. But there was something that made her wish Jane would let go of her immediately.

-You look angry, all right, sis? -Yelena put her hand on Nat's shoulder.
-Of course, everything's fine. -Nat was slow to look away from the two friends, continuing to frown for a few seconds.

Yelena smiled mischievously, she knew Nat's gestures perfectly, so she decided to tease her a little.

-You know, Wanda is a very, very good kisser. I know it was her first kiss, but with a little practice... I hope she'll let me help her. She's really cute.

Natasha fixed her eyes on Yelena, who was staring at her undaunted, waiting for an exaggerated response from Nat. She didn't want to give her that satisfaction.

-I don't think she wants to practice with you. Besides, as far as I know, she doesn't like girls. And if she did, I don't think you're her type.

-Oh, do you know that? Wow. I hope you can tell me her type, then.

-No, I don't. But with a brother like Pietro, she must have very high expectations- Nat tried to turn her attention away, she knew Yelena had read her mind.

-Mmm, right. You're right, I'm sure. You seem very attentive to everything about her.

-Oh, come on. Pietro told me to take care of her, that's all.

-In exchange for something? I hope so.

-You surprise me every day, Yelena. For the worse.

Yelena smiled again, stroking Natasha's arm. "Yes, you'd better take care of her". Wanda was coming towards them, together with Jane.

-Wanda, honey, can we talk alone for a moment? -Yelena took Wanda's hand, leading the redhead with her into another room. She gave one last mischievous glance at Natasha, who could hardly contain her violent tempers.

-Yelena is really energetic, and insistent. -Jane smiled, looking at Nat.

-Oh, of course she is. Nothing new.

Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, Yelena took Wanda's hands, to the redhead's obvious embarrassment.

-I hope I didn't make you feel bad about the game? Are you all right?

-Yes, don't worry... everything is fine.

-I wanted to apologize because maybe I over-celebrated when I saw that it was my turn to kiss you. I don't want you to feel like you're a prize or anything. I just think you're really cute and I didn't think I could pull off something as amazing as kissing you.

Yelena played with Wanda's tresses, which covered her face. "Damn, this girl can be really sweet when she puts her mind to it" . Wanda felt like she was overloading her too much that night, as if she had drunk all the alcohol at the party. She wasn't even properly feeling anything. Yelena was getting closer and closer, and all Wanda knew was that she didn't feel the same way about her as she did about Natasha. Precisely Natasha felt that she had left them too much time alone for her liking, so she decided to go in search of both of them despite taking the risk of finding something she didn't like. And she arrived just in time, because Yelena was resting her gaze on Wanda's lips, grabbing her lower back. Natasha cleared her throat as a sign of attention.

-Oh, hello, sis. -Yelena smiled, as if nothing had happened.

Wanda stood motionless against the kitchen cabinet. She was only able to look at Natasha, who had arrived as if she was a war tank. Natasha was still in the same position, waiting for Yelena to leave and leave them alone. The blonde understood and left them.

-Wanda, Yelena is still drunk. Don't listen to her, okay? I'm sorry she's bothering you.

-N-no, don't worry, Nat. Yelena is great, she's not bothering me as such. I know she's had a lot to drink, she'll be back to her old self tomorrow.

-Yeah... Just in case, stay with me... until Pietro comes. -Natasha looked at Wanda, doubtful about the last thing she said.

Natasha took Wanda to her room. No one that night had gone upstairs, except them. Wanda was impressed, it was a very nice room, with minimalist decoration, very functional. It even had space for a yoga mat and some small weight dumbbells. A photo with Yelena as little girls caught her attention. "How cute" - said Wanda.

-I've known Yelena for as long as I can remember. We could almost say that we are sisters, we have lived through everything together, she was always by my side. Especially in bad times.

-I know... I see it in the way you relate to each other. To understand each other with a look. It reminds me of Pietro, we always understand each other, we're connected. We only have each other, and that's enough for us.

-Pietro is great. You are very lucky to have him. And he's very lucky to have you, Wanda.

They both sat on Natasha's bed.

-Oh, come on. Don't go overboard. -Wanda blushed.

-No, I'm not. You're thoughtful, you're smart, you're caring, you're brave, you'd give your life for the ones you love. All that and more. And you're the prettiest girl I've ever seen.

Wanda felt a swarm of bees in her stomach again, like in the kitchen. She didn't know what was wrong with Natasha. So many people had complimented her throughout her life, yet now she felt useless and blocked.

Chapter Text

Natasha clicked her tongue. She really shouldn't have said that. She was usually not completely clear about her thoughts regarding others, always afraid that this would place her in a position of inferiority and vulnerability. But it was the young redhead's huge, round eyes, full of purity and brightness, that placed Nat in the worst of interrogations. There was no truth serum more powerful than her innocence, waiting for the older girl to open up completely to her. Wanda, for her part, was still unable to string two meaningful thoughts together. Only a small "thank you" escaped from her thin lips with embarrassment, with barely a trace of the lipstick that Yelena had snatched away with electricity.

Natasha felt a chill run down her spine. She couldn't fight the urge to brush Wanda's skin. There wasn't even a sensible explanation for the older girl. The days with Wanda had been like a tiny droplet making indentations in her until that night she felt the moisture pierce her insides, leaving a soft warmth in her chest and a feeling of home she'd never had. However, Nat did not want to give in to her own impulses. She decided to disguise her praise as the encouragement of an older sister. She moved her hand to Wanda's thigh, where the light redhead rested her fingers; to the surprise of the older woman, she took Nat's hand.

They remained like that for a few seconds, without speaking. Wanda seemed incredibly comfortable in Nat's eyes, although inside she felt an impossible-to-control tremor. What they perhaps did not know at that moment, is that the intimacy of holding hands would become a small secret habit for both of them.

Footsteps on the stairs alerted both girls, who quickly let go of their hands, as if there was something wrong with that.

"Girls, Pietro has already arrived. Wanda, he says that when you are ready, you should get in the car to go home," said Vision, peeking through the door frame. Wanda nodded shyly and thanked Vision for calling her.

"I think it's time to go now... thanks for everything, Nat." Wanda put her hand on Tasha's arm, who had regained her sanity thanks to Vision's interruption. To tell the truth, it seemed that both of them had swept away all thoughts that didn't have to do with the friendship they were building.

Wanda left the room and went down the stairs while Natasha pretended she had to go to the bathroom. The young woman felt overwhelmed, especially since the avalanche of feelings came from the need to get in the way of her brother Pietro's intentions. The older remained throwing water on her face to try to convince herself that it had only been a moment of weakness.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yelena tried to talk to Natasha again when everyone had gone home. They sat together in the kitchen, having a bowl of cereal with milk; it was almost dawn and a dim light was coming through the windows.

-Hey, Nat. I'm sorry for the spectacle I made earlier. And I wish I could apologize to Wanda properly, because even when I tried to, there was something about her that pushed me to kiss her again. - Yelena said with her cheeks full of cereal, holding the spoon in her hand.

-I always tell you that you should control yourself with the drink. It affects you a lot. I don't care, in the end I'll always be here for anything. But maybe it wasn't the best way to introduce yourself to others, especially Wanda. I know that she's not a girl who likes to go out too much and maybe after this she won't want to come anymore. - Nat remained serious.

-To be honest, I don't think she was upset by anything that happened. I could see a small smile after the kiss. - Yelena remained leaning on the counter, with only a huge white t-shirt that served as a dress.

-You know how shy people sometimes smile out of embarrassment and not for fun? Think about it. - Natasha turned her neck to look at Yelena's face, she didn't even feel like eating more sugary cereal.

-Well, let me think what I want. Maybe if Wanda really gets to know me, if she gives me the chance to not be a pain... and we'd be a happy family. Me and Wands, you and Pietro...

-Me and Pietro? Excuse me? - Nat almost spits out her milk.

-Oh, come on. Are you blind or an idiot? I can see the way he looks at you from miles away. He just has to kiss where you step. You drive him crazy.

-Pietro is my friend. Nothing more. And he asked me to take care of Wanda, so part of my job is to keep her away from predators like you, Yel.

-Yeah, because if it weren't for Pietro, you wouldn't even notice the redhead girl existed. I would believe it if it weren't for the pitbull face you make when there's another person around her.

-I think you're still drunk. Go to sleep, I'm going to go jogging for a while.

Yelena smiled and went to the couch. Natasha decided to put her hair up in a high ponytail and put on her best running outfit, along with her headphones. She usually went out running early on the weekends, but that day's run was to catch the breath she needed every time she remembered Wanda's hand taking her own.

Chapter 9: Thoughts

Chapter Text

In the car, Wanda was completely silent despite the animated conversation Pietro and Vision were having about the scene Steve and Tony had played out that night.

-I'm sure Steve isn't over it. I don't want to spill the beans on things he's confided in me, but I think the abrupt end of the relationship because Tony had to leave school early affected him deeply. Plus, Tony started acting like he'd never needed Steve.- Pietro said.

-Guys, I'm a very analytical person, you know. And the fact that Steve was always accusing Tony of always having to rub his hookups in his face and literally wanting to eat other people in his presence tells me that Tony is actually still dealing with it too. In his own way, though, because we're getting a sense of what that little jerk is like." Vision replied.

Pietro looked at Wanda, who remained deep in thought, watching the glimmer of dawn begin to appear on the horizon. "What do you think, Wands?" Wanda reacted, though she barely gave a timid response. 'I think they have an unresolved matter.' Although what the young redhead wanted most was to resolve her own issue with Natasha.

They left Vision at home and continued on their way. Now alone, the silver-haired boy wanted to know how his sister felt about everything that had happened. In fact, he was almost certain she was acting so strange precisely because of everything that had happened with Yelena, Wanda's first kiss, and so many unknown people around her witnessing it. Because in the end, Pietro could read his beloved little sister's mind. He always knew what was going on in her head.

-Wanda, I know that what happened tonight may not have been the best thing in the world. I know that Yelena treated you very well and was very careful with you, but I understand that you may feel uncomfortable. You know you can talk to me about how you feel, right?

-No, don't worry. I'm fine. I feel a bit silly for taking so long to have my first kiss. After all, if this was shocking, it's my fault. If I had wanted to go out, I probably would have already gone through this. But it wasn't that awful either.

-Well, maybe you would have liked to kiss a boy you find attractive. -Pietro laughed.

-Well, yes, it would have been nicer.

-But is she a good kisser? -he smirked.

-I guess so, it's not like I have enough experience to say- Wanda joked.

The brothers arrived home. Pietro took a quick shower and went to sleep for a couple of hours. The night had been quite turbulent for everyone. In fact, he had never kissed a boy either, and there he was. He would have preferred that stupid bottle to have pointed at him when Yelena spun it, instead of his sister. Who knows, maybe that would have made Natasha jealous. However, the night ended with a vow to protect his twin.

Wanda undressed, leaving her clothes on the chair in the room. Her blouse still smelled of her vanilla perfume, but it had another fragrance mixed in. An intense scent of sandalwood that could only come from Natasha, from the hug they shared in the kitchen. She immediately began to feel her heart racing. She had thought about going to sleep, but she was so sleepless and unsettled that she could only go out for a run. Adrenaline was rushing through every inch of her body, leaving an unbearable tingling sensation in her spine.

"Wanda, are you crazy? You never go running. Pietro bought you a jogging outfit and it's been sitting there for months. You won't even last more than two hundred metres." Her thoughts, still rational, intruded as she searched desperately for the clothes.

Without even realising it, she was already outside. She began to warm up, trying to remember her high school gym class routine. Because even though she needed to think and figure everything out urgently, she was afraid of injuring herself. Wanda began to jog gently, but each step echoed loudly in her head, as if she had a hangover. She saw herself in the third person, holding Natasha's hand. ‘Are you crazy? How could you do that?’ she constantly tormented herself.

Suddenly, Yelena's kiss inevitably crept into her thoughts. She had certainly done it almost perfectly, and she felt the need to follow through despite barely knowing her. Yelena had a special magnetism that was not only attributed to her scent of cherries and vodka. But what would have happened if the bottle had pointed at Natasha? Would anything have happened? Seeing the empathy with which the Russian girl had treated her, probably nothing, or maybe just a shy little kiss. What was clear was that she didn't want to make her uncomfortable. They had only known each other for a short time, but she was undoubtedly constantly showing protective behaviour towards her.

Although those moments in the kitchen showed another strange side to their relationship. Wanda had always been keen on reading about psychology and body language. And almost always, looking at someone's lips denoted a desire to kiss them... Besides, she had always heard that when you feel tension with someone, it's not usually one-sided. The other person feels it too and has it with you. Wanda began to feel a lot of heat rising to her cheeks.

She didn't even know how long she had been running or how far she had gotten from home. In the distance, Wanda caught sight of a slender young woman jogging at a brisk pace. Her dark red ponytail swung from side to side, and her black running outfit highlighted every curve of her body. On her left arm was a semi-transparent armband holding her mobile phone. The screen displayed the song she was listening to, ‘Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush.

Wanda was aware that Natasha was approaching her a few seconds before she did. She regretted that there was no way to turn away before she encountered her, because she really wanted to run away from her. But that wasn't the case, because it wasn't meant to be.

-Wanda, hello! Do you often go running around here?’

-Oh, hello Nat! I didn't see you - she pretended.

-Yes, well, no. Not around here especially. Just today, I felt like going further than usual.

-I thought it was strange, it's quite far from your house. And Pietro, isn't he with you?

-No, I let him rest. He'll probably go for a run at sunset. - Wanda regretted giving Natasha that information. Under normal circumstances, she would have told her so they could go running together, but for a moment she wanted to stop playing matchmaker between the two of them.

Natasha offered to walk her home, walking instead of running so they could talk quietly. Although they didn't know what to talk about after discussing Steve and Tony's gossip for the umpteenth time. Wanda asked her about Yelena, just to make conversation. Natasha, however, doubted that Wanda could really be developing a genuine interest in the blonde. She simply replied that she had gone to sleep on the sofa.

They began to talk about trivial things for the rest of the way. Sometimes, one invaded the other's personal space and their hands brushed very lightly, but neither seemed uncomfortable with the situation. They laughed and joked.

‘Hey, lets go for a coffee,’ said Natasha. ‘I know a great place two blocks from your house.’

Wanda felt her heart skip a beat as she accepted the invitation. They arrived shortly afterwards, and both chose a coffee with cream on top. Natasha insisted on paying, much to Wanda's displeasure. ‘Next time you pay, and that’s it,’ said Nat, winking.
