Work Text:

It was early morning in Green Hills. Up in his room, Sonic, a young blue hedgehog, was sketching a butterfly he caught. Once he was finished, he released the pink butterfly from its glass case.

The butterfly flew into town, and passed Big the Cat, the town crier. “Ten minutes to the Hedgehog and Acorn wedding rehearsal!” he shouted.

A black hedgehog with gray-blue stripes and dark green eyes stood nearby listening. The butterfly flew near him, and he shooed it away with his hand.

A flying squirrel with a cough, Ray, drove a coach outside of the Hedgehog household. Bernadette and Jules Hedgehog stepped out the door, singing.

“It's a beautiful day!” Bernie smiled.

“It’s a rather nice day,” Jules shrugged.

“A day for a glorious wedding!” Bernie exclaimed.

“A rehearsal my dear, to be perfectly clear,” Jules corrected.

“A rehearsal for a glorious wedding!” smiled Bernie.

“Assuming nothing happens that we don’t really know,” Jules said.

“That unexpected interferes with the show,” Bernie nodded.

“And that's why every thing

Every last little thing

Every single tiny microscopic little thing must go!” the two sang.

“According to plan!” Bernadette exclaimed.

“Our son will be married,” Jules said.

“According to plan!” Bernie repeated.

“Our family carried,” Jules smiled.

“Elevated to the heights of society!” sang the couple.

“To the costume balls,” Bernie said.

“In the hallowed halls,” Jules added.

“Rubbing elbows with the finest,” Bernie continued.

“Having crumpets with Her Highness!” Jules exclaimed.

“We'll be there, we'll be seen

Having tea with the queen

We'll forget everything

That we've ever, ever been!” the pair sang.

Just then, as the couple tried to get into the coach, Bernadette's dress was caught on the door frame. Jules and Ray worked together to push her and the dress into the coach.

“Where is Sonic? We might be late!” Bernadette inquired.

Meanwhile, Nigel and Alicia Acorn were watching them from their window. “Ugh...restaurateurs,” Alicia groaned. Shortly after, she and her husband began singing as well.

“It's a terrible day,” she sang.

“Now don't be that way,” Nigel returned.

“It's a terrible day for a wedding,” Alicia continued.

“It's a sad, sad state of affairs we're in,” Nigel said.

“That has led to this ominous wedding!” Alicia finished.

“How could our family come to this?” Nigel asked.

“To marry off our daughter to the nouveau riche,” the two sang.

“They're so common,” Alicia said.

“So coarse!” Nigel added.

“Oh it couldn't be worse!” Alicia exclaimed.

“Couldn't be worse? Well, I have to disagree

They could be land-rich, bankrupt aristocracy

Without a penny to their name

Just like you and me,” Nigel stated.

“Oh dear,” Alicia sighed.

“And that's why everything

Every last little thing

Every single tiny microscopic little thing must go,” They sang.

“According to plan!” exclaimed Alicia.

“Our daughter will wed,” Nigel said.

“According to plan,” Alicia repeated.

“Our family led!” Nigel exclaimed.

“From the depths of deepest poverty,” the two sang.

“To the noble realm,” Alicia said.

“Of our ancestry,” Nigel added.

“And who'd have guessed in a million years

That our daughter with the taste,” the pair continued.

“Of an occasional disgrace,” Nigel muttered.

“Would provide our ticket to a rightful place!” Nigel and Alicia sang.

As her parents were singing, Sally was in her room. She was a sweet, positive young chipmunk. Her handmaid, Bunnie, was working on Sally’s makeup. Sally normally didn’t get nervous about things, but her parents had been building up this marriage for months.

“Hey, Bunnie? What if...what if Sonic and I don’t like each other?” Sally asked.

Before Bunnie could answer, Sally’s parents walked past the door. “Oh goodness, as if that has anything to do with marriage. Do you think that your father and I like each other?” Alicia asked.

“You do, don’t you? At least a little?” Sally asked.

“Well….we do,” Nigel said.

“But some of us can’t be that lucky. Bunnie, finish Sally’s makeup already,” Alicia said, before she and Nigel walked off.

Meanwhile, Sonic and his parents were riding in their coach. “You’ve certainly hooked a winner this time, Sonic,” Jules stated.

“Now all you have to do is reel her in!” Bernie exclaimed.

“I’m already reeling. I haven’t even met this woman, and now you’re forcing me to start an entire future with her?” Sonic asked, before crossing his arms. “Besides, I would have thought Sally Acorn would marry off to some lord,” he added.

“Oh please. We are just as good as the Acorns.I always knew I deserved better than to be a merchant’s wife!” Bernie smiled.

“Again, I would just like to remind the two of you that I haven’t even spoken to her,” said Sonic.

“And maybe that’s a good thing, darling,” Bernie said, as Ray began coughing outside. “Ray! Stop that coughing! I can’t hear myself think!” she shouted.

Nigel and Alicia were standing at the top of the stairs, getting ready to greet their guests, while their butler, Antoine, did some last minute cleaning.

“Marriage is a partnership. A little tit-for-tat

You'd think a lifetime watching us

Might have taught her that

Might have taught her that!” Alicia sang.

“Everything must be perfect

Everything must be perfect

Everything must be perfect

Everything must be perfect, perfect!” Nigel and Alicia sang.

“That's why everything

Every last little thing

Every single tiny microscopic little thing must go

According to plan!” sang the Hedgehogs and Acorns.

Antoine opened the door, and Bernadette was straightening out Sonic’s suit. “Oh hi!” she smiled, before stepping inside.

Sonic and Jules followed her, and Bernie stood there, gawking at the ornate decor. “I love your decor!” she smiled.

“It seems tacky to me,” Jules muttered.

“Shut up!” Bernie hissed.

“Lord and Lady Acorn, may I present, Mr. and Mrs. Hedgehog,” Antoine announced. “This is going to be a disaster,” he muttered.

Jules looked at Alicia and smiled. “You must be Miss Sally. I must say, you look good for your age,” he said, causing Bernie to smack his shoulder.

Nigel fought the urge to roll his eyes, and gave the Hedgehogs a strained smile. “Well, hello! What a pleasure. Welcome to our home,” he said.

“Thanks for having us!” Bernie replied.

“Come along, we’ll be having tea in the west drawing room,” Alicia said.

The couples walked off, leaving Sonic alone in the main room. He sighed, still extremely unhappy about being forced to get married. Just then, Sonic noticed the piano in the corner of the room. He walked over to it, and began playing.

Upstairs, Sally was still in her room. She heard the piano, and curiously went downstairs to see who was playing. When Sally saw the blue hedgehog sitting at the piano, she assumed it was Sonic. She smiled, and tapped him on the shoulder.

Sonic abruptly stopped playing and turned to her, startled by the touch. “Oh! Hello there. You must be Miss Acorn,” he said, a nervous smile on his face.

“You’re really good at playing,” Sally smiled.

“Why thank y-,” Sonic began, before realizing he had been playing her family piano without permission. “Do forgive me for playing your piano, but I just couldn’t resist. It’s quite a remarkable instrument,” he said.

“It isn’t my piano. Mom won’t let me anywhere near it. She said music was improper for a young lady. But I still love listening to it. It’s so passionate,” Sally said.

“It most certainly is,” smiled Sonic. “Pardon me for asking, Miss Acorn, but shouldn’t you have a chaperone?” he asked.

“You don’t have to be so formal, Sonic. You can call me Sally,” she replied.

“Sally…” Sonic repeated. “It’s a wonderful name,” he smiled.

Sally smiled back and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Thank you,” she said.

“So….Sally. By tomorrow, we’ll be…” Sonic started, unable to force out the word.

“Married,” Sally finished.

“Exactly! Married,” Sonic nodded.

“You know, I used to think about my wedding day all the time. I always hoped that it would be with someone really special. Someone I’d want to spend the rest of my life with,” Sally sighed, before pausing. “You probably think it’s silly, don’t you?” she asked.

“No. Not at all really. I’d never given much thought into marriage before, but-,” Sonic began, before he knocked over a flower vase. “Oh goodness! I’m terribly sorry. I’m usually not this clumsy,” he said.

“Hey, it’s okay,” Sally replied. She picked up the flower that fell out of the vase, and handed it to Sonic.

The two smiled at one another, then Alicia walked in. “What impropriety is this?! You can’t be alone together! Now, come on! We must go to the rehearsal. Pastor Robotnik is waiting!” She shouted.

Sonic and Sally each headed to their places. As Sonic’s parents bickered, he began smiling to himself. If he was going to be hopelessly stuck with someone for the rest of his life, Sally didn’t seem like a terrible choice. Sally walked next to him with a small smile on for almost the same reason. Maybe this wedding wouldn’t be as bad as she thought.

Three hours later, the Hedgehogs and the Acorns were still at the wedding rehearsal. Pastor Robotnik was beginning to get annoyed by how completely unprepared Sonic was.

“Alright, Mr. Hedgehog, let’s do it again. With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way in darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine. Got it?” Robotnik asked.

“Yes, yes, don’t patronize me,” Sonic replied, before clearing his throat. “With this candle-,” he began.

Sonic attempted to light his candle on the one already burning, but nothing happened. He tried again, but it still wouldn’t light.

“HURRY IT UP, DARLING!” Bernie screamed.

“I’m getting to it, Mother!” Sonic snapped, just as his candle finally lit. “With this candle-,” he began. The moment Sonic started speaking, the flame went out.

“Just continue,” Robotnik said, as they all heard a knock at the door.

“Antoine, get the door,” Nigel stated.

Antoine nodded and hurried off. “Now, shall we pick it up from the candle line? Again?” Robotnik sighed.

Antoine walked back in and hurried to Nigel and Alicia. “Sir? It’s someone named...Lord Mephiles,” he said, as a hedgehog with gray-blue stripes stepped inside.

“I’m not the best with dates. Turns out I was a day early for the wedding,” he said.

“Do you know him, dear?” Alicia asked.

“....probably,” Nigel answered. “Antoine! Get a seat for Lord Mephiles,” he added.

Antoine ran over and put a chair beside Nigel, which Mephiles sat in. “Go on with the rehearsal, don’t mind me,” Mephiles smiled.

“Okay, Mr. Hedgehog, are you ready to try again?” Robotnik asked.

“Yes! Yes, I’m ready,” Sonic returned.

Sally noticed Sonic’s candle was still out, and she subtly lit it with her own. “Now, with this….cup?” Sonic asked.

“Hand,” Robotnik groaned.

“Indeed!” Sonic smiled, as he took Sally’s hand. “With this hand…” he began, as the two of them stepped up to the altar. Unfortunately, Sonic accidentally stepped into it.

“For goodness sake! It’s three steps! Do you not want to get married?!” Robotnik shouted.

“No! No,” Sonic stammered.

“Wait, you don’t want to get married?” Sally asked.

“No! I meant no as in I do not not want to be married. It’s a double negative, my dear,” Sonic said. At that, Robotnik hit Sonic on the head with his staff. “Ow!” shouted Sonic.

“Pay attention! Did you even bring the ring?” Robotnik asked.

“The ring! Why certainly,” Sonic smiled, as he took the ring out of his coat pocket. The ring slipped out of his hand and fell to the floor.

“You dropped the ring?! Clearly, this mobian doesn’t WANT to get married!” Robotnik yelled.

The ring rolled across the ground, and landed underneath Alicia’s dress. Sonic didn’t want to get it from there, but he was quickly learning that one had to make sacrifices to get married. And that included sacrificing one’s dignity.

“Pardon me for a moment, madame,” Sonic said, before getting on the ground and quickly reaching under her dress. Alicia went wide eyed, and Sonic grabbed the ring, dropping his candle in the process. “I’ve got it!” he smiled, as he triumphantly held up the ring.

After a pause, Sonic thought he smelled something. “Do any of you smell something burning?” he asked.

He turned just in time to see that Alicia’s dress was on fire due to the candle he dropped. “Out of the way, you ninny!” Nigel shouted, as he pushed Sonic away.

Nigel started trying to stomp out the fire, but it was no use. Bernie rushed over and tried to use her fan to put it out. “Oh, this was such a nice dress you had too,” she said.

“Stop fanning it, you fool!” Alicia exclaimed.

Sally and Sonic watched in confusion and shock, while Jules rushed to get a bucket of water. It all ended when Mephiles poured a glass of wine onto the flames, putting them out.

“Everyone! This wedding can’t happen until Sonic is prepared!” Robotnik yelled, before he glared at Sonic. “Young man, learn your vows,” he stated.

Sonic looked at the disapproving stares he was given from both his and Sally’s parents, then he headed outside. “Sonic, wait!” Sally called, however he was already gone.

“He’s quite the catch, isn’t he?” Mephiles asked, with obvious sarcasm.

Sally didn’t respond. She simply stared at the door in disbelief.

That evening, Sonic was sitting on the bridge outside of town, looking at the flower Sally had given him. “Oh Sally…” he sighed. “I’ve made an utter fool of myself,” he muttered.

A few days ago, Sonic wouldn’t have cared about ruining his rehearsal. He was so against the wedding, he had been avoiding practicing his vows entirely. But now that he met Sally, Sonic actually wanted to get this right.

Sonic sighed and started walking into the woods. “It shouldn’t be this complicated. It’s only a few simple vows. With this hand, I will take your wine. Wait...no, that isn’t it,” he muttered.

“With this cup, I will light your….goodness, that doesn’t even make sense!” Sonic shouted, as he walked deeper into the woods.

“With this candle, I will….I’ll set your mother on fire,” he sighed. “It’s hopeless,” Sonic said.

He looked at the flower he got from Sally, and placed it back in his coat pocket. Sonic took a deep breath, and began to say his vows. “With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine,” he recited.

Sonic was beginning to get his confidence back, and he walked over to a pair of trees. “Ah! Mrs. Acorn, you look lovely this evening. What's that, Mr. Acorn? Call you ‘Dad’? Well, I suppose, if that's what you want,” he smiled.

“With this candle, I will light your way in darkness!” Sonic exclaimed, before he noticed a strange branch sticking up out of the ground. “With this ring, I ask you to be mine,” said Sonic, as he slipped the ring onto the branch.

Everything was still for a moment, then the wind began to blow. Sonic spotted a large group of crows nearby. The next thing that happened caused Sonic to scream. The branch turned out to be an arm, and it grabbed Sonic by the wrist.

Sonic jerked himself back, but the arm was still attached to him. Sonic threw it to the side, and noticed as the ground began to shake. Sonic’s jaw dropped as a figure rose from the ground.

It was a tall, pale pink, female hedgehog in a wedding dress. She pulled the veil out of her face and looked at Sonic with wide eyes. “I do,” she whispered.

Sonic immediately started running. The girl walked after him, and picked her arm up. Sonic ran through the graveyard, but the girl continued to follow him.

Finally, Sonic made it to the bridge. He looked around for the pink hedgehog, but she was nowhere in sight. Sonic sighed with relief, thinking he was finally safe. He turned to head back into town, but found himself face to face with her.

Crows flew overhead, and the pink hedgehog placed her hands on Sonic’s shoulders. “You may kiss the bride,” she whispered, before pulling Sonic into a kiss.

At that moment, Sonic fainted. “Oh dear. That didn’t go as planned’,'' the girl muttered. She looked at Sonic again and smiled. “You’re gonna be fine. Now, let’s go home,” she said, as she and Sonic disappeared into the night.

When Sonic opened his eyes, he was surrounded by the female hedgehog and other strange creatures. “He’s up! Are you okay, sweetheart?” the girl asked.

“What….on….earth?” Sonic muttered, as he looked at his new surroundings.

“Wow! You picked up a breather!” shouted a mongoose with purple hair, named Mina.

“Does he have a dead sister?,” asked a swallow named Wave.

“He’s still soft!” exclaimed a badger named Sticks.

“A toast to the newlyweds. Good work, Amy,” said a short, dark haired mongoose, Ash, as he raised a glass.

“Newlyweds?” Sonic gasped.

“In the woods, you said your vows so beautifully,” smiled Amy, who held up a hand with the wedding ring on it.

“Oh my word…I did,” Sonic said.

“There’s the happy couple!” cheered a raccoon. “Hi there! My name is Marine, I’m the head waitress. I’ll be the one preparing your wedding feast,” she explained.

“Oh great! I’m starved,” said a red maggot, who popped out of Amy’s right eye socket.

“Not now, Knuckles!” Amy shouted, as she put her eye back in, blocking the maggot from coming out again. “Maggots, am I right?” Amy asked, chuckling nervously.

Sonic backed away, and grabbed the sword that had been in Ash’s back. Unfortunately, the small mongoose was still on it. “Stay away! I have a….a mongoose! And I’m not afraid to use him! I demand questions!” Sonic shouted.

“Answers. You mean answers,” Ash corrected.

“Ah, thank you. Yes! I need answers. Where am I? Who are you...people? What is going on?” asked Sonic.

“Well...it’s kind of a long story,” Amy replied.

“And what a story it is,” said a voice.

Sonic turned and saw a crocodile, Vector, standing in the corner. “A tragic tale of romance, passion, and a murder most foul,” he continued.

“He better not sing the darn song again,” Ash muttered.

“Too late!” Vector smiled, as the music started.

“Hey! Give me a listen you corpses of cheer

At least those of you who still got an ear

I'll tell you a story make a skeleton cry

Of our own jubiliciously lovely corpse bride!” he began, as skeletons started singing backup.

“Die, die, we all pass away

But don't wear a frown 'cause it's really okay

You might try and hide

And you might try and pray

But we all end up the remains of the day

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Yeah, yeah, yeah!” the skeletons sang.

Vector pulled Amy over, and she started to dance with him.

“Well, our girl was a beauty known for miles around

When a mysterious stranger came into town

He's plenty good-looking, but down on his cash

And our poor, little Amy, she fell hard and fast

When her daddy said no, she just couldn't cope

So our lovers came up with a plan to elope,” Vector continued.

“Die, die, we all pass away

But don't wear a frown 'cause it's really okay

You might try and hide

And you might try and pray

But we all end up the remains of the day

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Yeah, yeah, yeah!” the demons sang.

“This is my dance break!” Vector exclaimed.

He and the other skeletons started to dance. As they did, Sonic tried looking for a way to escape, only whenever he tried to leave, someone would pull him over to dance. When things calmed down, Vector and Amy were back to standing before the others.

“So they conjured up a plan to meet late at night

They told not a soul, kept the whole thing tight

Now, her mother's wedding dress fit like a glove

You don't need much when you're really in love

Except for a few things, or so I'm told

Like the family jewels and a satchel of gold

Then next to the graveyard by the old oak tree

On a dark foggy night at a quarter to three

Amy’s ready to go, but where is he?” sang Vector.

“And then?” the crowd asked.

“She waited,” Vector answered.

“And then?” the crowd asked.

“There in the shadows, was it her man?” Vector grinned.

“And then?” asked the crowd.

“Her little heart beat so loud!” Vector exclaimed.

“And then?” the crowd repeated.

“And then, baby, everything went black,” Vector stated.

“Now when she opened her eyes, she was dead as dust

Her jewels were missing and her heart was bust

So she made a vow lying under that tree

That she'd wait for her true love to come set her free

Always waiting for someone to ask for her hand

When out of the blue comes this groovy young man

Who vows forever to be by her side

And that's the story of our own corpse bride!” Vector finished.

Amy and Sonic danced with one another, but all Sonic really wanted to do was escape.

“Die, die, we all pass away

But don't wear a frown 'cause it's really okay

You might try and hide

And you might try and pray

But we all end up the remains of the day!” the dead sang.

Sonic broke away from Amy, and ran up a set of stairs, out of the room.

Sally was gazing out of the window, wondering where Sonic was. “Sally! Get away from the window!” called Alicia.

Alicia, Nigel, Jules, and Bernadette were all having tea. “I’m sure Sonic will be back soon. It’s not like he has anywhere else to be,” Bernie said.

At that, the group heard a knock at the door. “Come in!” Nigel shouted.

The door opened, and Mephiles stepped inside. “Hello, everyone. I’m afraid I have terrible news,” he said.

“What is it? Is it Sonic? Is he okay?” Sally asked.

“You’ll see,” Mephiles grinned, before snapping his fingers. Big stepped into the room. “Why don’t you tell them tonight’s headline?” he asked.

“Attention, everyone! Sonic Hedgehog was seen on the bridge in the arms of a mystery woman! They kissed, then Mr. Hedgehog and the mysterious woman slipped away into the night! And now for the weather-,” Big said.

“Good. Now, get out,” Mephiles stated, as Big nodded and walked off.

“Mystery woman? He doesn’t even know any women!” Bernie exclaimed.

“It is such a tragedy that Sonic left a fine young woman such as Sally for some harlot. I’m really sorry about this. Call me if you need help,” Mephiles said, before he looked over at Sally. “With anything,” he smirked, before walking away.

“Oh Nigel, what do we do?” Alicia asked.

“Get my musket!” Nigel exclaimed.

“Hey! The town crier was probably just having a slow news day. You know how it is, people need something to talk about. Big’s eyes were probably off,” Jules said.

“Either way, we’re one groom short of a wedding,” Nigel returned.

“What an embarrassment,” Alicia sighed.

“I...I just….I thought he liked me,” Sally stammered.

Alicia sighed and looked over at Sally. “I tried to warn you, dear,” she said.

“It’s gotta be a mistake. Julesy and I will find Sonic. Give us until dawn!” Bernie exclaimed.

“Fine. Until dawn,” Alicia stated.

Sally still stood there, in complete disbelief. Just when she started to like someone, he vanished into thin air. She prayed it was a mistake. It had to be.

Sonic was frantically trying to avoid his new ‘wife’ at all costs. Amy on the other hand was completely oblivious. “Sonic, sweetie? Where are you?” she called.

“Your new boyfriend is kinda jumpy,” Knuckles said.

“He’s not my boyfriend, he’s my husband,” Amy returned, looking at the ring on her finger. “Sonic! Where’d you go?” she called, as Knuckles popped out of her eye socket.

“Hey! I can keep an eye out for him. Huh? Get it?” he grinned.

“Sometimes you’re so unfunny it hurts,” Amy sighed. “Sonic!” she repeated.

Meanwhile, Sonic had been hiding behind a statue, and decided to make his escape. “Oh! There he goes!” Knuckles exclaimed.

Amy put her eye back in and saw Sonic running away. "Sonic!” she smiled, as she kept walking after him.

Sonic quickly hid in an empty coffin, and Amy passed him by. “Thank goodness,” Sonic smiled. Then he spotted a spider, it was a white spider named Rouge.

“Married, hm? I’m a widow. Of course there is a little maggot I’m interested in….” Rouge began.

“I don’t have time for this,” Sonic said, before he ran out of the coffin and down the street.

“Oh! How rude!” Rouge yelled. “Amy, he went that way!” she added.

“Thanks!” Amy replied, as she headed down the path. “Sonic!” she called.

Sonic kept running, until he reached a wall with ridges in it. “It seems like I don’t have a choice,” he muttered.

Sonic climbed up the side of the wall and let out a sigh of relief when he reached the top. Then he spotted Amy. “Could’ve used the stairs, silly,” Amy smiled, before she helped Sonic the rest of the way up.

“Isn’t the view gorgeous? Takes’ my breath away. I mean...it would if I had any,” Amy chuckled. “It’s so romantic,” she smiled, as she sat down on a bench.

Sonic sighed and sat beside Amy. “I’m terribly sorry that you were murdered. And I wish I could do something to help, but unfortunately, I have to go home,” he said.

“This is your home now,” Amy replied.

“Look, I’m sorry….what was your name, again? Amy, yes?” Sonic asked.

“HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW YOUR FUCKING NAME?!” Knuckles shouted.

“Shut up!” Amy hissed, before she smiled at Sonic. “Yep. It’s Amy,” she said.
“Amy,” Sonic repeated.

“Oh yeah! I got you something,” Amy smiled, as she handed Sonic a box. “It’s a wedding present,” she added.

Sonic shook the box around and heard rattling from inside. Sonic opened the box and saw nothing but bones. The bones spilled out of the box, and took the form of a skeletal dog. The dog trotted over to Sonic, holding a collar in his mouth.

Sonic took the collar and his eyes widened. “Muttski ?” he gasped. The dog barked in response. “Muttski ! My old dog Muttski!” Sonic exclaimed, before he pulled the little animal into a hug.

“I knew you would be happy to see him. He’s so cute!” Amy smiled.

“You should have seen him with fur,” Sonic replied. “Mother never approved of me keeping a dog as a pet. Mother never approved of anything really,” he sighed.

“Do you think she’d approve of me?” whispered Amy.

“Well, you’d have to meet her,” Sonic answered. The blue hedgehog got an idea, and he began to smile. “Actually, now that you mention it, you should meet her! We are married, after all. You should meet my mother and father ,” he said.

“Oooh! Great idea! Where are they buried?” Amy asked.

“Nowhere. They’re still alive,” Sonic replied.

“Still alive, huh?” Amy asked. She paused for a moment to think, then she smiled. “I think I know a guy,” he said.

Moments later, Sonic, Amy, and Muttski were walking through a dark library. “Shadow? You here? Hello!” Amy asked.

Sonic accidentally knocked over a stack of books, and a black hedgehog with red stripes stepped out. “Hey! Careful with the books!” he shouted.

“Shadow! Good to see you,” Amy smiled. “This is my husband, Sonic. Sonic, this is Shadow,” he said.

“You’re finally married? Congratulations,” Shadow muttered.

“It’s lovely to meet you too, sir,” Sonic returned.

“Shadow, Sonic and I wanna go upstairs. Can you help us?” Amy asked.

“You want to go to the Land of the Living? Wasn’t being up there once enough?” asked Shadow.

“Please, sir? It would mean so much to m-,” Sonic began, before catching his mistake. “Us,” he corrected.

“Please, Shadow? There’s got be something you can do!” Amy exclaimed.

“Fine, let see,” Shadow replied. He grabbed a book and began flipping through pages. “Found it! A Ukrainian haunting spell. It should be fine,” he said.

As Shadow began working on a mixture, Amy smiled at Sonic. “I’m so glad you thought of this,” she said.

“Indeed….me too,” Sonic nodded.

Shadow finished with the mixture and drank it in one shot. “Okay, now I’m ready. What are we doing?” he asked.

“Ukrainian haunting spell,” Amy answered.

“Oh yeah,” Shadow nodded.

He squeezed an egg out of a raven then looked at the couple. “Okay, this is it. Just one thing. When you wanna come back, say ‘hopscotch’,” Shadow said.

“Hopscotch?” Amy asked.

“Yep,” Shadow replied. “Have a good trip,” he said.

Shadow cracked the egg over Sonic and Amy’s heads. Sonic flinched, expecting a yolk, only the egg was filled with glowing dust. When Sonic and Amy opened their eyes again, they saw that they were in the Land of the Living. Sonic’s plan was already falling into place.

Amy and Sonic were in the woods, in the spot Sonic had first found Amy. Amy gazed into the sky with an awestruck expression. “I spent so long underground, I forgot how lovely the moonlight is,” she said quietly.

Amy began to dance in the moonlight, her veil gracefully blowing in the wind behind her. Seeing how happy Amy looked almost made Sonic feel bad about lying to her, only now there was no turning back. “Amy? Dear?” Sonic asked.

“Yes?” Amy asked, as she turned to him.

“I think I should go on ahead and tell my parents the big news, then I’ll bring them back here. Alright?” Sonic asked.

“Okay!” Amy smiled.

“Perfect. Now, just wait here. I won’t be long,” Sonic replied.

“Gotcha,” Amy nodded.

“I’ll be back shortly!” exclaimed Sonic, before he walked off.

As soon as Sonic made it into town, he went straight to the Acorn mansion. However, before he could knock, he heard voices inside.

“If I ever see that Hedgehog boy again, I’ll strangle him with my bare hands!” Nigel shouted.

“Nigel darling, his neck is far too thin. You’d need a rope,” Alicia replied.

Sonic decided not to run the risk of seeing Sally’s parents, so he headed near the side of the house to find the girl’s bedroom window.

Meanwhile, Amy was sitting on a large stone, still waiting for Sonic. “Listen up, Amy. This is your conscience. I’m only saying this out of love, but I don’t trust that Sonic guy,” Knuckles said.

Amy sighed, then she took out her eye, threw Knuckles out, and put it back in. “Go bug somebody else. Sonic went to see his parents. Just like he told me,” Amy said.

“If I wasn’t just sitting up there, I’d think you lost your mind,” Knuckles said.

“He probably has a good reason for taking so long,” Amy replied, as doubt began to slip into her voice.

“Then why don’t you ask him?” Knuckles asked.

“Fine, I will,” Amy returned.

“After all, he couldn’t have gotten far with those cold feet,” Knuckles grinned.

Amy rolled her eyes, picked up the maggot, and followed the footprints Sonic left.

Back at the mansion, Sonic climbed up a pillar that led to Sally’s balcony, and he knocked on her glass door. Sally was surprised by the knock, but smiled with relief when she saw Sonic standing on the other side. “Sonic!” she exclaimed, before letting him in.

“Sally…” Sonic began.

“I’m so happy you’re back!” Sally smiled, as she gave Sonic a hug. “Oh my gosh...you’re cold as death,” she said, before letting go. “Sonic, are you okay? Did something happen?” Sally asked.

“Sally, it’s very hard to explain,” said Sonic.

“I promise I’ll listen,” Sally replied.

“Sally, this morning, I despised the idea of getting married. I wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. But then I met you, and it all seemed bearable. You are a wonderful person, and one that I could happily spend my life with,” Sonic explained.

Sally began to blush, and she gave Sonic a small smile. “Sonic, I feel the same way. I was nervous about getting married, but after I met you, I started to think our wedding couldn’t come soon enough,” she said, before pausing. “I know it seems crazy and sudden, but I just know it’s right. I just feel like you’re perfect for me,” she added, blushing again.

“Sally, there is no one I’d rather be with than you,” Sonic replied, with a gentle, caring smile.

The two of them began to lean towards one another and were about to kiss. It was at that moment Sonic saw Amy crawling up to the balcony. “Sally! While I do love and care for you deeply, I seem to find myself...erm….married,” he stammered. “And you should know it’s unexpected.”

Amy threw open the door and stepped into the room. “Sonic, sweetheart! I just wanted to me-,” she began, before her eyes landed on Sally.

Amy and Sally stared at one another for a moment, until Amy finally spoke. “Sweetheart, who is this?” she asked.

“Who is she?” Sally asked.

“I’m his wife,” Amy answered, as she held out her hand with the ring on it.

“Sonic, is that true?” Sally asked, in complete disbelief.

“No! No! Sally, don’t be ridiculous! She's dead!” Sonic exclaimed.

Amy narrowed her eyes at Sonic. “Hopscotch,” she coldly said.

There was a crash of thunder, and Amy grabbed Sonic and dragged him away.

The two of them were back in Shadow’s library, and Amy had angrily crossed her arms. “You lied to me! Just so you could go see that other woman!” she shouted.

“Amy, don’t you understand? You’re the other woman,” Sonic explained.

“No! You married me! She’s the other woman!” Amy insisted, with tears in her eyes.

“She has a point,” Shadow said.

“I thought things were going great!” Amy sobbed.

“I’m truly sorry, but this can’t work between us,” Sonic said.

“Why not?” Amy asked. “It’s my eye, isn’t it?” she continued.

“No! Your eyes are lovely,” Sonic replied. He really was being honest; he thought Amy’s eyes were gorgeous. “Perhaps under other circumstances, things may have worked. However, we’re simply too different. You’re dead,” he explained.

“You should’ve thought of that before you asked me to marry you,” said Amy.

“For the last time, it was a mistake! I would never marry you!” Sonic exclaimed.

Amy gasped and just stared at Sonic, completely broken. After seeing the girl’s expression, Sonic instantly regretted his words. “Amy, I didn’t mean it like that,” he said.

“Sure you didn’t,” Amy returned.

Without another word, Amy stepped out of the library. Unsure of what to do, Sonic helplessly watched her leave.

Amy walked through an alleyway and threw off her veil. She sat down against a wall and looked at a bouquet. “Roses...for eternal love. Lilies...for sweetness. Baby’s breath,” she muttered.

Rouge noticed how upset Amy was and hurried over. “What’s wrong, dear?” she asked.

“Maybe he is right. Maybe we are too different,” Amy sighed.

“Maybe he should have his head examined,” Knuckles said. “I could do it.”

“Maybe Sonic does belong with her. Little Miss Living. With her rosy cheeks and beating heart,” said Amy.

“Oh Amy, those girls are a dime a dozen! You’ve got….erm….a wonderful personality,” Rouge smiled.

“Wait….I know what to do,” Knuckles said, as music began.

“What does that wispy little brat have that you don’t have double?” he sang.

“She can't hold a candle to the beauty of your smile,” Rouge added.

“What about a pulse?” Amy asked.

“Overrated by a mile!” Knuckles replied.

“Overbearing,” Rouge added.

“Overblown!” Knuckles exclaimed.

“If he only knew the you that we know,” the two of them sang, but they weren’t cheering Amy up like they hoped.

“And that odd little chipmunk isn't wearing his ring,” Rouge sang.

“And she doesn't play piano or dance or sing,” Knuckles smiled.

“No she doesn't compare!” the two sang.

“But she still breathes air,” Amy grumbled.

“Who cares?” Rouge asked.

“Not important,” Knuckles stated.

“Overrated,” Rouge added.

“Overblown!” Knuckles exclaimed.

“If only he could see

How special you can be

If he only knew the you that we know!” Knuckles and Rouge sang.

Amy was still upset, and she let out a pensive sigh.

“If I touch a burning candle I can feel no pain

If you cut me with a knife it's still the same

And I know her heart is beating

And I know that I am dead

Yet the pain here that I feel

Try and tell me it's not real

For it seems that I still have a tear to shed,” she sang.

“The one redeeming feature

From that nasty creature

Is that she's alive,” Knuckles sang, trying to make Amy feel better again.

“Overrated!” Rouge said.

“Overblown!” Knuckles agreed.

“Everybody know that's just a temporary state

Which is cured very quickly when we meet our fate,” sang Rouge.

“Who cares?” Knuckles asked.

“Unimportant!” Rouge exclaimed.

“Overrated,” Knuckles added.

“Overblown,” Rouge continued.

“If only he could see

How special you can be

If he only knew the you that we know!” the two of them finished, before Amy sighed and swatted them away.

“If I touch a burning candle I can feel no pain

In the ice or in the sun it's all the same

But I feel my heart is aching

Though it doesn't beat it's breaking

And the pain here that I feel

Try and tell me it's not real

I know that I am dead

But it seems that I still have some tears to shed,” Amy sang, as tears began falling down her face.

On Earth, Sally was trying to explain the situation to her parents. “Mom! It’s true! Sonic is married to a dead girl! I saw her! A pale corpse standing here with Sonic,” she explained.

“Sonic was in your room?!” Alicia exclaimed.

“Mom, we need to help him!” Sally insisted.

“The scandal!” Alicia gasped.

“Sally honey, you’re shaking. I’ll get you a blanket,” Bunnie said.

“Get her a straight jacket! She’s gone mad!” Alicia shouted.

Alicia grabbed Bunnie by the wrist and the two of them left Sally’s room. The last thing Sally heard was her mother locking the door. “Oh my gosh…” she muttered.

Sally was absolutely devastated. She met and lost her true love all on the same day. Sally took a deep breath and gathered her courage. If no one else would help Sonic, she would.

Sally lowered some blankets off the edge of the balcony and used them as a rope to climb down. Once she landed, Sally used her blankets as a hood to protect herself from the rain.

Sally headed straight for the church and pounded on the door. Pastor Robotnik swung open the door and looked at Sally in confusion. “Miss Acorn? What do you want?” he asked.

“I need to ask you something!” Sally cried.

“No,” Robotnik stated, as he began to close the door.

Sally came inside anyway, getting increasingly more frantic. “Please! You’re the only one in town who knows about life after death,” she said.

“Why do you care?” Robotnik asked.

“Because I fear a bride,” Sally replied.

“What?” Robotnik asked.

“No, another one. That’s why I need to know. Can the living marry the dead?” Sally asked.

“What are you on about?” asked Robotnik, as he raised an eyebrow.

“It’s Sonic! He’s married to a corpse! He has a corpse bride! We need to fix this!” Sally exclaimed.

“Alright, alright, I know what to do. Come with me,” Robotnik said.

Moments later, Robotnik dragged Sally back to her house. Alicia opened the door and gasped. “Sally? What on earth is going on?” she asked.

“She’s talking about all this...unholy nonsense! I believe your daughter is going crazy,” Robotnik stated.

“I am not!” Sally shouted, as Alicia pulled her inside.

“Thank you, Pastor Robotnik. Thank you ever so much,” Alicia said, before she shut the door.

As soon as the door was closed, Alicia turned to her daughter. “Antoine! Bunnie! Take her to her room. Be sure she doesn’t get out again,” she stated.

“Wait! Wait no! Sonic needs our help! Please! I love him! Mom, Dad please!” Sally pleaded, as Bunnie and Antoine led her up the stairs.

“Our poor, insane daughter,” Alicia sighed. “Will this mortification ever cease! It will be years before we can be seen in public again! What can we do?” she asked.

“We have a wedding anyway. Besides, I already bought the cake. We just need a new groom,” Nigel said.

Just as he said that, Mephiles stepped into the room. “For that….Sonic to leave a lovely, young woman like Sally….he must be an idiot. If I had a woman like your daughter, I would shower her with gifts fit for a queen,” he said.

“Your partner must be very fortunate to have someone like you,” Alicia said.

“Unfortunately, I’m single. I was engaged not too long ago, but tragedy struck. I lost my young bride forever. When one lives alone, wealth accounts for nothing,” Mephiles said.

Nigel and Alicia smiled at one another, both getting the same idea.

Later, the two of them opened Sally’s door. “Good news, Sally! We’ll have a wedding after all,” Nigel said.

“You found him?” Sally smiled.

“No. Be sure you have your things in order. You need to look your best for Lord Mephiles tomorrow,” Alicia said.

“Lord Mephiles?” Sally asked, as her heart practically shattered.

“Yes! He will make a wonderful husband. So much better than our other option,” replied Alicia.

“But I don’t love him. Please, please don’t make me!” Sally exclaimed.

“We have to,” Nigel shrugged.

“There has to be another way!” Sally pleaded.

“If you don’t marry Mephiles, we’ll be on the streets,” Nigel explained.

“But Sonic….” Sally began.

“Sonic is gone, Sally,” Alicia said.

“You’ll marry Mephiles tomorrow,” Nigel stated.

“According to plan!” both of them shouted, before leaving Sally’s room.

Meanwhile, Mephiles was walking down the hall of Acorn family portraits. He grinned and stopped by Sally’s. In the portrait, she had a solemn expression in comparison to her usual cheerful one.

“Don’t look so sad, my dear. After all, we’re only married until death do us part. And that’s going to be coming sooner than you think,” Mephiles said, before chuckling wickedly.

Sonic was walking the streets of the Land of the Dead with Muttski . Sonic noticed the bouquet Amy had lying on the ground. Sonic sighed to himself; he never meant to hurt Amy’s feelings. He decided now was as good a time as any to apologize.

Meanwhile, Amy was sitting in a bar, sadly playing the piano. Sonic walked over to her, bouquet in hand. “Hello. I believe you dropped this,” he said quietly.

Amy didn’t answer. She continued playing the piano and didn’t even look at Sonic. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I lied to you, Amy. This whole day just hasn’t gone according to plan,” Sonic continued.

Sonic sat beside Amy on the piano bench. Amy played a small tune, using only low notes. When she finished, Sonic played a small tune as well, using the higher keys. Amy looked at Sonic for a second, but played another low tune. Sonic, still hoping to get Amy to listen to him, played another high tune.

Amy shot Sonic a look, then played another low melody. Sonic played something different. Something more joyous, but hauntingly beautiful at the same time. Amy listened for a moment, then she joined in.

The two of them played piano together, each sharing a smile with one another. As they played, Amy’s right hand broke off and crawled over to Sonic’s side of the piano. “Sorry, it does that sometimes,” Amy muttered.

Sonic chuckled and looked over at Amy. “It’s no trouble,” he said.

“Sorry about my...enthusiasm,” Amy said.

“I like your enthusiasm,” Sonic replied, as he reattached Amy’s hand.

Amy and Sonic smiled at one another again, then a bell started to ring.

“New arrival!” Wave shouted, as she walked in.

The other dead followed her, all of them buzzing with excitement. “This is so exciting! Drinks for everyone!” Marine exclaimed.

Wave walked over to the new arrival, a small, flying squirrel. “Hey, I’m Wave. Don’t do anything stupid,” she said.

“I’ll try not to,” the squirrel replied, with noticeable sarcasm.

While his form was a more pale sickly yellow, Sonic could recognize that voice anywhere. “Ray?” he asked.

“Sonic!” Ray smiled.

“Ray! It’s wonderful to see a familiar face,” Sonic said. He paused for a moment, and his face fell. “Oh, right. I am so sorry,” he added.

“It’s fine. Honestly, I feel great,” Ray replied.

“Right….so, how is everyone?” Sonic asked.

“Your parents are still looking for you, and Sally is getting married,” Ray answered.

“What?! Married to who?” Sonic asked.

“Some newcomer, Lord something,” Ray replied.

“But...she meant everything to me,” Sonic said quietly.

“Well, life goes on. Relatively speaking. Move on,” Ray said.

Sonic didn’t say a word, and he sadly walked away.

“Sonic? Sonic! Where are you going?” Amy called.

Sonic didn’t answer, he just kept walking. This was it. He really lost Sally for good.

On Earth, Bunnie was helping Sally get ready for her wedding. The girl was wearing the nicest wedding gown money could buy, only she was absolutely miserable.

“Just yesterday, I was so happy for my wedding. Now I feel like I’m stuck in a tide going out to sea,” Sally sighed.

“The sea leads to lots of places, honey. Maybe you’ll land somewhere better,” Bunnie said, in an attempt to cheer Sally up.

Unfortunately, Sally was still distraught. The wedding finally came, and she stood at the altar, completely emotionless. Beside her, Mephiles was reciting his vows. “With this candle, I will light your way in darkness,” he said, before taking out the ring.

“With this ring, I ask you to be mine,” grinned Mephiles, as he slid the ring on Sally’s finger.

Sally couldn’t even react. She was completely broken. She lost the man she loved to a corpse, and was being forced to marry someone she didn’t even know. Her world was crumbling down around her, and there was nothing she could do about it.

As the ceremony went on, Bunnie and Antoine watched from the back. Bunnie was crying softly, and Antoine held her hand to comfort her. Bunnie may not have known much, but she knew one thing. Sally didn’t deserve this.

Sonic had run off and was now sitting in an alley full of coffins. He looked at the flower Sally had given him and sighed. “I’m too late,” he whispered, before throwing the flower down.

As he sat there, he heard Amy and Wave talking in the kitchen.

“I’m worried about him! Poor guy ran off. Are all guys like this?” Amy asked.

“How should I know? You know guy's aren't my thing,” Wave replied.

“Oh, I hope there's nothing wrong,” Amy said.

“I'm sure there isn't,” Wave shrugged.

She stepped out of the kitchen just as Shadow walked in. “Amy, we need to talk,” Shadow said, as he placed a book on the table.

“Oh! Shadow! Let me tell her!” Knuckles said, smiling up at Amy from the table.

“Tell me what?” Amy asked.

“There’s an issue with your marriage,” Shadow replied.

“What do you mean?” asked Amy.

“The vow is only effective until ‘death do you part’. But you’re dead. Death has already parted you,” Shadow explained, causing Amy to gasp.

“No! If he finds out, he’ll leave or hate me or something! What can we do?” she asked.

“I mean….there’s one thing we can do…” Shadow began.

“But you’re not going to like it!” Knuckles added.

“Just tell me!” Amy exclaimed.

“We have to kill him!” Knuckles shouted.

“What?!” Amy cried.

Sonic was still listening outside, and he gasped in shock.

“Yes, Sonic would have to die. He’d have to say his vows in the Land of the Living, then drink some poison. This would stop his heart from beating, only then could he give it to you,” Shadow said.

“He’d have to give up everything. I could never ask him to do that,” Amy sighed.

Sonic finally stepped into the room. “You don’t need to ask,” he said, before walking over to Amy and holding her hands. “I’ll do it,” he finished.

“But Sonic…” Amy whispered.

“Sonic, if you do this, you can’t go back. Ever. Got it?” Shadow asked.

“I do,” Sonic nodded.

Shortly after, Amy and Sonic were in the center of town so they could make the announcement to everyone.

“Attention! Attention, ladies and gentlemen! We decided to have a proper wedding party. Now, get what you can! We’re going upstairs!” Sonic smiled.

“Upstairs? I forgot we had an upstairs!” Mina exclaimed.

“Sounds exciting!” Sticks added
.
Soon, everyone in the Land of the Dead was bustling with excitement.

“Wedding, a wedding, we're going to have a wedding,

A wedding!

Wedding, a wedding,

We're going to have a wedding, a wedding!” They sang.

Amy hurried off to get ready. Sonic smiled to himself, and he spotted Rouge hanging nearby with a few other spiders. “Sonic! You can’t possibly get married like that!” Rouge exclaimed.

The spiders crawled onto Sonic and got to work.

“The spiders think you're very cute

But goodness knows you need a suit

But have no fears

We're quite adept

We'll have you looking

Lovely

Lovely

Lovely yet

A little stitch, a little tuck, some tender loving care

A little thread will fix you up and we've got plenty as you see

And personally guarantee our quality repairs

A little here, a fix of this

We're going to do our best

When everybody sees you, they will all be quite impressed

They will all be quite impressed!” the spiders sang.

They finished restitching Sonic’s wedding suit, and it looked brand new once again.

“A wedding, we're going to have-,” a few citizens began.

Meanwhile, Wave and her kitchen staff, Storm and Silver, were working on the cake.

“A wedding cake is no mistake, it has to be sublime,” Wave sang.

“We're missing something..” Silver said.

“Try some dust?” Storm asked.

“We should have had more time,” Wave sighed.

“Maybe there's something I can do, these bones might help a bit,” Silver said, as he dumped a bowl of bones into the mixture. In the process, he knocked off one of Storm’s fingers.

“My finger!” he exclaimed.

“Sorry,” Silver shrugged.

“Waig, hang on...that's it!” Wave exclaimed.

“A little that

A little this

The perfect cake is hard to miss

A wedding, a wedding

We're going to have a wedding!” the three of them sang.

Meanwhile, Sonic had met with Mina, Ash, and the other dead, all of whom were thrilled for the wedding.

“Huzzah! Huzzah! We're going to have a wedding

Hurray! A wedding! Hurray!

Let's all give out a cheer cause the bride is getting married today! Hurray!

One thing you can surely say is we will stand beside

Until the end, we will defend our one and only bride

Our bride to be

Our bride to be, our lovely corpse bride

Huzzah! Hurray! Huzzah! Hurray!

The bride is getting married today!” They sang.

At that moment, Amy began slowly walking down a set of stairs. She held a bouquet and looked beautiful as ever.

“Oh, oh, the bride is here

She's waited for this day for many a year

For this day, for this day

Our hopes and our pride

The bride is here

Here comes the bride

Here comes the bride

Here comes the bride

Our bride

For this day, for this day will last forever

And all of her friends will work together

To make it the perfect day she's always dreamed

She’s pure and she’s true

Our bride

Our beautiful bride,” everyone sang.

Amy and Sonic smiled at one another. Wave and the kitchen staff walked out with a massive cake.

“We're going to have a party like no one has ever seen

The Living in the land above will not know where they've been

The Land above

The party of

The bride!

Here comes the bride

On her glorious day of days

Up to the Land of the Living to celebrate!” sang the dead.

They all began heading for the Land of the Living. Sonic was going to miss Sally, but now...now he knew that marrying Amy was the right thing to do. Sonic knew he would be throwing his life away, but that didn’t matter to him. Sonic truly cared about Amy. If he had to die in order for the two of them to be together, then so be it.

Sonic still had a small feeling of doubt, but he pushed it aside. This was no time to be nervous. He was going to have a wedding.

Everyone was gathered for Sally and Mephiles’ reception. The atmosphere was formal and cold, and Bunnie placed a small wedding cake on the table. Sally was still completely miserable, and Mephiles was being as smug as ever.

“Settle down, everyone. I want to make a speech,” he said, even though no one had said a word all evening. “Elegant, cultured, beautiful. Sally has found a man with all those qualities and more. Fate brought us together, and nothing on earth could tear us apart,” Mephiles said.

At those words, the fireplace behind them began to glow an eerie green. The guests watched in horror as Vector and two skeletons rose up behind Alicia and Nigel. The couple didn’t notice, but then Vector’s eye popped out and fell into Nigel’s soup.

“There’s an eye in my soup,” he mused.

A guest shrieked, and they all sprung up from the table. Everyone began running in fear, but Sally watched it all curiously.

“Antoine, get my musket!” Nigel shouted.

“GET YOUR OWN MUSKET!” Antoine returned, before he ran out the door.

“Excuse me, mister,” Marine said, as she passed by someone, immediately causing him to scream.

Mephiles went to hide under the table, but he saw a young skeleton girl sitting under it. “Hi!” she smiled, making Mephiles scream.

Knuckles crawled over to another guest. “Hey, pal! I know you don’t know me, but I used to live in your dead mom!” he exclaimed.

As the guests ran, Vector looked around. “Get back here! The party is just getting started!” he laughed.

Nigel and Alicia watched from the stairs. “Nigel! Who invited these people? They must be from your side of the family,” Alicia stated.

“Absolutely not! Why, if my father saw this, he’d be turning in his grave!” yelled Nigel.

“Nigel….” said a voice. The two of them turned and saw the corpse of Nigel’s father. “Where do you keep the champagne?” he asked.

Nigel and Alicia squealed and ran down the hall.

The dead headed out of the Acorn mansion and into the town.

“In other news, THE DEAD WALK THE EARTH!!” Big yelled, ringing his bell.

Everyone in town began to panic. They all ran in terror, trying to flee from the dead. A living hawk named Jet walked over to Storm, to everyone’s shock and horror.

Jet looked up at the albatross and held out his arms. “Storm?” he asked.

"Jet!” Storm smiled, as he picked him up and hugged him.

Elsewhere, a purple cat named Blaze was beating Silver with an umbrella. “Darling! Love! Blaze!” Silver shouted.

Blaze dropped the umbrella in shock. “Silver?” she gasped. “You’ve been dead for three years,” she continued.

“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn,” Silver said, before he gave Blaze a kiss.

Soon, everyone in town started to bond with their dead loved ones, happy to see them once again.

Meanwhile, Sally and Mephiles were alone in the mansion. “That’s it! I’ve had it! We need to grab whatever money we can and get out of here!” Mephiles shouted.

“What money?” Sally asked.

“Your dowry. It’s my right!” Mephiles yelled.

“My family is broke. My marriage to you was supposed to save them from the poor house,” explained Sally.

“The what?!” Mephiles yelled. He grabbed Sally by the shoulders. “You’re lying! Tell me it isn’t true!” he yelled.

“Did things not go according to your plan, Mephiles?” Sally asked, before pushing him away. “I guess we’re matched in disappointment,” she said.

Sally stormed off. Mephiles watched her leave, his anger growing by the second. When Sally stepped outside, she was surprised to see the dead and the living happily getting along. She noticed everyone heading to the church, so she decided to follow them.

“Back! Begone, demons! Go back to hell!” Robotnik shouted, as everyone approached the church.

“Keep it down, this is a church,” Silver said.

Robotnik stood there, completely aghast, as the dead walked past him. Soon, everyone was seated. Sonic was standing by the altar, and Amy began walking down the aisle.

The pink hedgehog was positively glowing. Amy had waited for this day for years, and finally her dream was coming true. Sonic wore a soft smile. Any doubts he had were completely gone. In this moment, everything felt right.

Amy reached the altar, and Shadow began speaking. “Dearly beloved and departed, we are gathered here today to join these two in marriage,” he began.

Sally walked into the church, and gasped at what she saw. “Sonic?” she whispered.

Sonic hadn’t noticed Sally come in. He turned his full attention to Amy. “With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine,” he said.

“With this hand, I will lift your sorrows,” Amy said, as she reached for the bottle of poison. “Your cup will never empty, for I will be your-,” she began. As Amy was pouring the poison into Sonic’s glass, she noticed Sally standing a few feet away. “Your...your cup will never empty. For I….I…” Amy stammered.

“I will be your wine,” finished Sonic. He raised the cup to his lips, but Amy stopped him.

“I can’t,” Amy whispered.

“What do you mean?” Sonic asked.

“This is wrong. I was a bride. My dreams were taken away. And now I have stolen them from someone else. I love you, Sonic. So, so much. But you're not mine,” Amy explained.

Sonic finally looked over at Sally, and he gasped. “Sally,” he said.

Sally walked over cautiously. Amy gave her a gentle smile, then placed her hand in Sonic’s. Sally and Sonic smiled at one another, but the moment was ruined when a door swung open.

“Well, isn’t this touching? I always cry at weddings,” Mephiles grinned, as he stepped inside.

Mephiles continued walking to the altar, with a devilish grin on his face. “Well, well, Sonic and Sally are together at last. But, you forgot something,” he said, before stepping over to Sally and grabbing her arm. “She’s still my wife!” he shouted.

It was then Amy and Mephiles’s eyes met. “You…” Amy whispered.

“Amy?” Mephiles asked in disbelief. “I left you…?”

“For dead.” Amy whispered.

Mephiles got over his shock, and it quickly turned into anger. “This girl is crazy! Now, if you’ll excuse me,” he said, before drawing his sword and holding it to Sally’s throat. “My wife and I need to get going,” he finished.

“Take your filthy hands off of her,” Sonic stated.

“What a fun surprise! I get to kill you too,” Mephiles smiled.

Just then, Muttski bit Mephiles’s leg. Mephiles screamed and kicked the dog off, and Sally used it as her chance to escape.

“Sonic! Catch!” Wave shouted, before she tossed Sonic a weapon.

Unfortunately for Sonic, that weapon was a fork. He glared at Wave. “What? At least you got something!” she yelled.

Mephiles and Sonic began fighting. Since all Sonic had to defend himself with was a fork, he wasn’t doing very well. Sonic still managed to block Mephiles’s sword swings, but Mephiles managed to kick Sonic to the ground.

Mephiles raised his sword, ready to strike. However, as Mephiles swung his sword down, Amy had stepped in front of Sonic, blocking the attack. Amy pulled the sword from her chest and pointed it at Mephiles.

“Get out,” she ordered.

“Fine, fine,” Mephiles returned.

Before leaving, Mephiles walked over to the altar and picked up the wine glass. “But...a toast to Amy! Always the bridesmaid, never the bride,” he chuckled. “Amy, darling, can a heart still break once it’s stopped beating?” Mephiles asked.

Amy only glared at him, not moving a muscle. “KICK HIS ASS, Amy!” Knuckles shouted.

“She can’t! We need to follow their rules. The dead cannot hurt the living,” Shadow said.

“I couldn’t have said it better myself,” Mephiles grinned, before he drank from the glass.

As Mephiles walked to the door, he abruptly stopped in his tracks. He began to cough and choke, and turned into a strange dark purple version of himself.

“Oh sweet, he’s dead now!” Knuckles smiled.

“Huh, he is. Okay everybody, kick his ass,” Shadow said.

All of the dead began menacingly walking over to Mephiles. Mephiles screamed and tried to get the door open to escape. The dead surrounded him and followed him out the door.

“New arrival…” Wave said, as she shut it behind them.

After everything quieted down, Sally wrapped Sonic in an excited hug. “Sonic! I never thought I’d see you again,” she said.

Amy watched as the two of them hugged, and began walking away.

“Wait, I made a promise,” Sonic said. He left Sally’s side and walked over to Amy.

“You kept your promise. You set me free,Sonic,” Amy replied. She slid the ring off her finger and handed it to Sonic. “And I’m gonna do the same,” she finished.

Amy walked towards the door leading out of the church. “Amy!” Sonic called, causing the pale pink hedgehog to look back. “I’ll miss you,” he said.

“I’m gonna miss you too,” Amy replied. She looked at Sally and gave her a sad smile. “Take care of Sonic. He’s a really special guy,” she said.

“I will,” Sally nodded, before she held Sonic’s hand.

Amy made it outside of the church. She dissolved into thousands of pink butterflies, and they flew off into the night sky. Sally and Sonic watched from the ground below, embracing one another tightly. Sonic loved Sally dearly and was thrilled to marry her, but he would never forget his corpse bride.
