Chapter Text
Sonic was curled up on the couch in the blanket he had gotten for Christmas, Tails and Knuckles curled up beside him in their new blankets too. He had the book about dragons that he had gotten for Christmas in his lap and the three of them were flipping through the pages, Knuckles oohing and ahing at the art, Tails was fascinated by the not quite accurate, but surprising accurate for what it was science and biology in the book, and Sonic thought the story in the book was interesting.
Sonic lifted a tab and smiled at how it looked like the page was burnt. “It looks so real,” he said as Tails giggled beside him. “It really does look like the guy was studying baby dragons and one of them sneezed!”
“Boys, the hot chocolate is ready, put your book away so you don't spill on it!” Maddie said as she brought out the hot chocolate.
Sonic closed the book and tucked it to the side of the couch. “Yes! Hot chocolate!” He said excitedly. He reached out to grab his mug so Maddie could hand Tails and Knuckles theirs easier. He took a sip of it. “Oh! Is this one of the new flavors!” He asked.
Maddie nodded. “I figured we could try some of the huckleberry hot chocolate Tom found,” she said.
“It tastes really good!” Tails said.
Knuckles hummed in agreement as he took a sip.
Maddie sat down on the floor and pulled out the board game she had bought the boys. “I'm curious to see how this works? I'll join you three if you would like,” she said.
Tails' ears perked up. “Could we! It looks really fun!” He said excitedly.
Maddie smiled. “If you three are done snuggling on the couch, we could,” she said.
Sonic smirked. “We weren't snuggling, we were learning about dragons!” He said.
Maddie nodded her head. “Oh absolutely. Gotta learn all about dragons. I hear the Hydras can get pretty scary.”
The three boys slid down to the floor carefully, so that they wouldn't spill their hot chocolate and scooted over to the coffee table, where Maddie had opened the box and slid out the contents of the board game.
Its had a grey base with a bunch of little squares on it. Maddie opened up small bags with different shapes all consisting of small squares. “So it seems like you each get one color and the goal is to fill the board with your color. Whoever has the most small squares of their color on the board by the time that no more moves can be played wins. The catch is that you can only connect each shape by touching corners of your other shapes and they must be connected, no random squares on the opposite side of the board. We'll start with Tails and go clockwise,” Maddie said.
Sonic sipped his hot chocolate as he watched Tails place a piece down and it rotated to Maddie. Yeah, this was shaping out to be a good Christmas. Now if only he could convince Tom to let them watch Die Hard.
