Work Text:
Benefits of Surviving
Steve is pretty sure this is how he dies, asphyxiated by the slimy tails of a demobat in the upside down. His vision is starting to spot as he claws at the tail trying to get his fingers under it so he can hope to loosen its hold. It is not working. All he is doing is tearing at his own flesh, feet kicking out uselessly as more of them swoop down on him tearing into the flesh of his stomach.
If he could get the air to trill Steve knows he would be, asking for help from an alpha any alpha. As far as he knows he is the only soul down here in the upside down other than Vecna and he certainly does not want that monster finding him. His vision spots further, his limbs weaken as he continues to claw at the tail and swat at the ones trying to take a pound of flesh. He hears something like a shout, half growl and new fear shoots into him. What other creatures are down here coming to devour him?
The tail around his neck suddenly loosens and Steve splutters sucking in heady breaths of air barely aware of blood splattering him from the creature as it loses a limb. There is someone standing over him, wielding an axe, kicking the demo bats away from him before bringing it down and slicing them in half with practiced ease.
Steve pulls the limp appendage from his neck tossing it away with disgust as his vision focuses again. He is breathing heavily the stink of the upside down cloying but even so he catches a familiar scent. His heart kicks up as he stares at the back of his savior blond curls brushing shoulder blades, a memorable birthmark covered by a terrible tattoo that Steve definitely remembers.
The man turns around, bearded mouth grinning, splattered in the gooey black of demobat blood as he props the ax over his shoulder. "What brings a pretty boy like you to a hell hole like this?" Steve stares up at Billy noticeably alive if dirtier and a little more scared, not as bad as whatever had died in his place but still noticeable.
-
Billy starts to worry there is something more wrong with Steve other than just the obvious damage when he keeps staring like he has just seen a ghost or something. Which is fair, the last thing Billy remembered from his connection to the flayed doppelganger did lead to the scars across his chest. Perhaps he is a ghost to him.
"Earth to Harrington." Billy kicks at his foot lightly, careful with his booth when he realizes Steve is barefoot. He scrunches his whole face annoyed when Steve does not move any. His scent is as unreadable as it has always been, even for a beta it has always been a little weird. “They knock that pretty head of yours against the ground too hard Harrington?” Billy asks annoyed and worried, whipping around when the flapping of wings sound suddenly closer.
There is another one coming and it is not alone, Billy manages to knock it away from Steve with an angry growl but a few of his friends get lucky. Steve has regained his wits though, scrambling up and defending himself against the oncoming attack. Billy is a little distracted by the way he catches one by the tail when it goes for his neck again and rips at it with his teeth. It is all survival instinct, something Billy himself had done once or twice before he found a decent weapon.
He is so busy ogling Steve as he uses that tail to beat the bat against the ground that he nearly gets caught by one of them. The tail just grazing the skin of his neck before it is being beaten down with an ore by Nancy Wheeler and she is not alone. Soon enough Robin and Eddie are around them doing their best to be helpful and keeping the bats at bay.
“You’re alive?” Nancy asks, face scrunched up and scent a sour thing that has Billy turning toward her with a snarl. “How?” So maybe she is not offended by him like he first thought, scent shifting as the bats block the way they got here but leave them alone for the time being, going brighter and curious.
“Spite mostly.” Billy shrugs, rolling his shoulder through it to work out some of the stiffness he always carries these days since he woke up with unfamiliar scars searing pain into him.
“I’m serious!” Nancy hisses hands fisted as she stomps her foot, glaring him down, her scent rising with hostility.
“So am I.” He growls, he does not know how he has managed this long, how he had not just given up and died except spite. He was living on that before he got here of course that would be the thing to keep him going down here too.
Robin shifts closer until she is standing next to Nancy, hand dragging down her arm softly eyes nervous as she watches the sky around them. “I think we should maybe find some cover before those things decide they can both block the gate and attack us.”
“I for one am all about getting away from those things.” Eddie pipes up his own nervous eyes looking at the closest of the demobats distracted by the gate but there is no doubt in any of their minds that it will not last long.
“Me too.” Steve finally stands and takes a step forward only to stumble, all of them taking a step closer to him and Billy wants to growl when he does not get to him first.
“Oh easy big boy, those things got you good huh?” Eddie has an arm around Steve’s ribs, touching all that bare skin it makes Billy grit his teeth as he stomp over to them.
“What the fuck is your problem man?” Eddie hisses when Billy pushes him away from Steve who stumbles again, nearly hitting the ground when strong hands catch him.
Billy does not answer Eddie, just hauls Steve up against his side and starts walking him back in the direction he came. He knows all of the safest places around here by now and with Steve wounded all he wants is him someplace safe. “Come on princess can’t have you falling behind we need to move.”
“Uh thanks.” Steve eyes him wearily but lets himself be led. “You guys coming or what?” Calling behind him to the three who followed him through the gate. Billy is a little annoyed that he is a package deal, the other three scrambling to follow them but he doubts Steve will just let him leave them behind.
-
“We need to stop.” Nancy calls not for the first time and Steve agrees but does not say anything he does not want to draw any more attention to himself. His sides ache and his throat burns but he is pretty sure that is not what has heat licking at his skin even if his pain spikes higher when Billy hauls him a little closer and his dirty tank top sticks against blood flesh. This close he cannot hide the hiss and the flinch and Billy finally pulls to a stop not so much listening to Nancy as noticing Steve is not doing too well.
“You’re not dying are you?” Billy asks face contorted as he lets Steve go and he slumps against a collection of large rocks nearby.
“No.” Steve huffs, nose pinched up, the upside down reeks and now that Billy is not occupying his space the scent of it is at the forefront again. His fingers itch, longing to press back into Billy’s space, get more of his scent in his nose. He does not move, Nancy comes over to him, her scent not as strong but it helps a little. She makes him hiss as she prods at his wounds. “Are you really you?” Steve asks Billy both because he is curious and for a distraction from the new pain lacing up his sides as those bony fingers keep prodding at his wounds.
“As opposed to what?” Billy looks really unimpressed as he watches Steve and Nancy, sneering the longer he stares them down.
It makes Steve’s shoulders hunch, makes his stomach swoop low. They have not seen each other in almost a year and Billy still hates him. “The version of you we all saw die.” Die comes out a little high and elongated as Nancy hits a particularly tender spot in all of her probing and it makes him wheeze a little as his muscles spasm.
Luckily Eddie chooses that moment to speak up, giving Steve a little reprieve from how everyone's eyes turn on him like he is about to keel over “Not me, I wasn’t there. I’d like to not be here.” Eddie raises his hand as he talks like he was waiting to be called on but just could not help himself, feet kicking the ground a little too close to a tentacle for anyone’s liking.
“Eddie!” Robin hisses, shaking her head.
“Watch your feet!” Billy growls, taking a menacing step forward, hand reaching out and catching him by the vest dragging him further away from the tentacle like vine.
“Shut up.” Nancy says simply before he full attention is back on Steve and his torn up torso. “Lift your arms for me Steve. We need to wrap these up.” Steve does as he is told, curious about what she is planning to use to wrap his wounds.
“You can use my shirt.” Billy pipes up, lifting the grayed fabric enough to show off his abs. It is unfair how good they look after all this time, dirty and scared but Steve wants to reach forward and touch them. He flushes, squirming a little with the desire filling his belly making the heat of his skin worsen.
Nancy gives a disdainful sniff as she tears a big stretch of fabric from the bottom of her long shirt. “That thing is filthy.” Steve is both thankful and aghast to see Billy’s shirt cover his abs back up as the alpha snarls at Nancy going ignored.
“Seriously, how are you alive?” Robin asks, peering at him with curiosity. Despite no one paying attention Steve nods utterly curious. He certainly looks like himself, sounds like himself, no black veins or sickly pallor.
“I woke up here after a run in with something weird in an abandoned warehouse what do you want me to fucking say?” Billy growls, taking a step closer as he glares.
“Shit careful.” Steve hisses when Nancy wraps his stomach unsatisfied the first time and lifts the fabric away, the fabric sticking painfully, drawing attention back to them for a moment.
“Stop being a baby.” Nancy huffs at him but she does ease the tension on the bandage as she carefully wraps it again to make it hurt less.
“So you weren’t at the mall but you have the scars?” Robin asks, face scrunched up as she tries to figure it out.
Billy shifts his eyes back to her with a roll. “Fucking woke up scream. Did that a few times though, woke up hurting with damage I had no memory of getting.” Steve makes a soft sad noise in the back of his throat wondering if he had a hand in any of that. He hit not Billy with that car after all, there had to be some damage given the time it allowed them all to run and hide in the mall.
Nancy gives him a look, hands skimming over his skin with a deepening frown. He knocks them away from his overheated skin and stands. He is fine.
“That fucking sucks, but you seem like you’re doing alright for a dead man.” Eddie pipes up again, shifting closer as he peers at Billy like he is some curiosity in a shop.
“Eddie.” Steve huffs stumbling forward, hand catching on the aforementioned man's shoulder and using him for support.
“Yeah?” Eddie does not let him fall, curls an arm around his waist helping to steady him.
“Shut up.” Steve hisses sweat licking at his skin making the arm around him slide a little.
“Rude,” Eddie fusses, pulling back long enough to strip the battle vest off before shoving it against Steve’s chest. “For your modesty.” He catches Steve’s arm when it looks like he might teeter over again.
There is a growl, a twig snapping under foot as Billy steps closer, his own jacket shucked off and held out until it pushes against Steve’s hand still holding Eddie’s jacket. “That thing won’t protect your wounds.”
Steve eyes the jacket, filthy like the rest of Billy but no less tempting. Too tempting. “I’m sure the vest is fine, we should get going.” He insists as he pulls the vest on before bracing his arm on Eddie’s shoulder again trying to ignore the way Billy is glaring daggers at them.
Luckily it does not last long, Nancy being a distraction as she leads them back toward a plan of action. “Yes we need to get to my house. We need guns.”
“You’ve got a gun?” Eddie practically shrieks in his shock.
“Guns.”
-
Billy stews as he takes up the end of their little procession through the upside down toward the Wheeler house. He watches from a few feet behind as Eddie and Steve take up the middle together talking while Nancy and Robin form the lead. Munson stopped holding him up a few minutes in when Steve pushed him away, balance regained and Billy is not the only one sneaking glances at him to make sure he stays on his feet.
He clenches his jaw and hands so hard they ache every time Eddie leans in toward Steve a little too close for Billy’s liking. It is not like he has a claim to beta or even a friendship but like hell he is going to let some other alpha sniff around him like that. He is about to stomp forward and intervene but Eddie says something he cannot hear and Steve whirls around to glare at him before stomping up toward Nancy and Robin.
Billy decides this is the perfect time to warn Eddie away from Steve. Marching forward and catching him by surprise. Eddie whirls around jumping when Billy’s hand lands on his shoulder. Eddie’s hand falls to his chest as he pants, smiling good naturedly. “Man you scared me, kind of forgot you were here.”
“Stay the fuck away from Harrington.” Billy growls and pokes him in the chest.
“Uh?” Eddie looks around hoping that Nancy or Robin or even Steve himself will come to his rescue from the intense glare Billy Hargrove is boring into him. They are all further ahead of them, well out of ear shot, having their own discussion about something neither of them was invited to. “I’m sorry?” He has no clue what this is about.
“Stay the fuck away from him.” Billy practically growls, poking him in the chest hard scent sharp even under the stink of the upside down. Eddie puzzles it out, trying to understand what Billy is getting out, he had not been all that close to Steve to begin with outside one short conversation about Dustin and how he was a little jealous. It had lasted barely five minutes before Billy had come sauntering by hip checking Steve and effectively drawing his attention as he spluttered and cursed at the alpha.
Eddie’s eyes wide even more as he finally gets it, it is so fucking juvenile he wants to laugh. Billy is acting like a kid in a school yard with a crush pulling pigtails like a little asshole who does not know what to do with those feelings yet. He holds the laughter in, he is pretty sure Billy will sock him in the face if he does laugh in his. “I didn’t realize Steve was taken.” A little snort does escape him and he takes a quick step back when Billy moves like he might punch him.
He pokes him in the chest again instead with a clipped. “Well he is!”
Eddie is about ninety percent sure that is not true but he is not about to say as much to Billy. He holds up his hands going for apologetic “Noted.”
Billy glares at him and gives him one more poke, Eddie is pretty sure he is going to have a bruise. “Good.” He growls turning on his heel and marching toward the beta in question who looks to be in a heated argument with Nancy and Robin now, the three of them having drawn to a stop.
-
“You’re not looking so good.” Nancy says brow furrowed, hand on his arm.
“I’m fine.” Steve is not fine, he is sweating like a hog on the menu at Christmas dinner and he is pretty sure it has nothing to do with the bat bites. They probably are not helping things but the familiar, sticky feeling between his thighs and the empty growing pit in his stomach since Hargrove showed up is undeniable. He is going into heat at the worst possible time all because the alpha he thought died did not and managed to save his ass but he is still a fucking asshole.
“Are you sure?” Robin asks, both her and Nancy giving him the same dubious look, both aware of the designation he has been hiding since he first presented in the Byers house after his first brush with the upside down.
“Yes!” He denies, glancing behind him to make sure Billy and Eddie have not suddenly come closer, frowning as he sees them standing practically chest to chest. What are they over there whispering about? He has a sour pit in his stomach as he thinks about them comparing notes on how lame he is. Why is this his life? Is Robin picking on him with Eddie not enough? He does not like the idea of Billy getting in on it too.
“Steve.” Robin calls hand on his shoulder drawing his attention, his acidic scent giving him away. It is not his fault, he does not usually care what people think of him but when his heat comes he is always a little more sensitive. Plus it is Billy, the first person Steve had a crush on after he presented who then beat him up. Steve is not a hundred percent it was really about him lying about Max and not something else. Billy had been there in body but he certainly had not seemed to actually be in control of himself. That had dimmed the crush some but the man was still unfairly attractive especially in the summer sun as a lifeguard and then he went and sacrificed himself for the kids. It was only after his death that Steve learned about Billy’s home life and Max admitted how bad things got for him when he did not bring her home that night, how things were never good for him there. Steve forgave him for that night a long time ago, understanding what could have driven him to that state.
"I'm fine." He insists again, jerking out of her grip only to have Nancy step into his space and block him from moving forward.
"Steve, if you're going into heat you have to tell us. It's not safe." Nancy says tone ever reasonable and scent pumping out comfort.
It does the opposite of comforting him though, makes him rile and hiss at her like an angry cat. "I said I'm fine, knock it off." He does not have the time for that he needs to get the fuck out of here. He is not having his heat in the fucking upside down.
Nancy has a determined look in her eyes, mouth just opening when Robin elbows her in the ribs and tips her head to the direction behind Steve. "This isn't over." She hisses before snapping her mouth shut.
Steve does not have to wonder why she changed her mind about confronting him right now as a hand slaps against his shoulder, fingers curling. It is a big hand with thick fingers and the contact with his bare skin makes it very hard to focus. "The hell are you three doing standing around for? Shouldn't we be moving toward Wheeler's house? Wait, don't tell me the princess here broke a heel?" It takes Billy looking down at Steve's bare feet for him to realize that is a dig at him.
"Do you need to be carried pretty boy?" Steve boils more from desire than the annoyance spiking. He is glad his sprays are waterproof or Billy would know exactly what he is doing to him right now and wouldn’t that just be humiliating.
It makes him flush just the thought of Billy getting a whiff of the slick soaking his underwear. Makes more gush and if he is not careful he is going to find the limit to his slick proof briefs. "God don't you ever get tired of running your mouth." Steve practically snarls as he knocks Billy’s hand away, stomping in the direction of their destination without a glance back to see if anyone is following.
-
"What's got his panties in a twist?" Billy says as jokingly as he can muster. Annoyed to be dismissed and walked away from. Nancy sneers at him before turning on her heel and following Steve.
"Wow, how did I not realize this before?" Eddie snorts out a laugh clapping Billy on the back and speeding his movements to avoid the hand trying to slap him.
It leaves just Robin behind with him. He glances at her to find her looking at him, gaze scrutinizing him like he is a specimen to be dissected. It is a long moment of awkward silence before she gives him a tight lipped look. "You are a fucking idiot."
"What?" Billy gapes, they do not even know each other. Who the hell does she think she is?
"Stop acting like a dumbass around dingus." She huffs.
"What are you part of his defense squad? Hoping to sit on pretty boy's dick? I hear he's got a big one for a beta." Billy snarls, the very idea making anger lick up his spine.
"First of all, ew." Robbin pretends to gag, ticking off her points with her fingers held up in front of her. "Secondly I’ll say it again you're a fucking idiot. Third, you better figure your shit out before you blow it. Not everyone gets a second chance." She turns abruptly, walking at a brisk pace to catch up with the others.
"I have no idea what you're going on about bird brain!" Billy shouts after her as she walks away, she doesn't even turn around when she flips him off.
-
Steve does not know what to do about the way everyone keeps sticking closer to him, even the two alphas like they can sense he is vulnerable without being able to smell him. It grates but he tries to ignore it as best he can, snapping at Nancy and Robin when they try to confront him about his current situation. He is not dealing with this here in the upside down.
He is thankful when they finally make it to Eddie’s trailer. He needs a shower and a knot and once his heat passes they can figure out what to do about Vecna. Robin and then Eddie go through the rift first but when he tries to get Nancy to go through she is not having it.
“No you go.” Nancy folds her arms over her chest like that is going to be the end of it.
“Nance.” Steve sighs, he does not want to do this right now.
“I’m not going until you go through.” Nancy says with a raised eyebrow challenging him to keep arguing with her.
When Billy stomps up to them Steve thinks he is going to go next, he is mistaken. Billy leans down and wraps his arms around Steve’s leg, lifting him up ignoring his startled shout of surprise. “You heard the lady.” Billy is just tall enough to get Steve through the vortex enough for gravity on the other side to pull on him and then he lets go.
Steve’s fall involves very little grace and he is lucky he does not get injured, more than a little disgusted by the state of the mattress he falls face first on. “You are a prick!” Steve shouts up at Billy on the other side of the rift.
“You’re welcome princess.” Steve wants to punch that smug bastard almost as much as he wants to press his nose against his glands and dry hump his thick thigh. He really needs to get a grip on himself.
The thought does not last long washed away when Billy turns to Nancy only for her to be non responsive. “What did you say happens when this Vecna creep gets someone?” Billy asks and gets a chorus of different things shouted at him as everyone scrambles looking for the right music to help Nancy escape.
“Yeah slapping isn’t going to work buddy.” Eddie calls up into the rift.
“Billy don’t fucking slap Nancy!” Steve and Robin shout at the same time from Eddie’s bedroom where they are looking for a tape with a song she actually likes.
“I didn’t.” Billy shouts back.
“He was going to.” Eddie immediately throws him under the bus.
“Shut the fuck up Munson before I come down there and kick your ass.” Billy is going to climb through this stupid gate and make him eat that nasty ass mattress if he does not shut the fuck up.
“Eddie, we need real music!” All they are finding is metal and as far as either of them know that is not her taste.
“This is real music!” Eddie shouts as he stomps after them into his room.
-
It turns out they do not need to find music as Nancy comes out of Vecna’s spell on her own, gasping and clutching at Billy with big scared but determined eyes. “We have to stop him. I think I know how to stop him.”
Billy does not wait for her to tell him what exactly happened, figuring it is time to get out of dodge. He forces Nancy up through the rift in much the same manner as he had Steve. Nancy flopping onto the mattress in the normal Munson trailer like a sack of potatoes. The others are quick to drag her off of it as Billy hoists himself up and through the rift more than ready to escape the hell he has been living in for nearly a year.
It takes him a minute to regain his bearings, a sweaty palm reaching down for him. Billy crosses his eyes following that arm up to Steve’s sweaty face, he is not looking so good. Billy grabs his hand and lets himself be hefted up, intentionally letting his step slip so he can press into Steve’s space trying to catch a real whiff of him.
He cannot smell anything under the stink of the upside down that clings to them all. Steve is pink checked as he shoves Billy off scurrying back over to Nancy who does not really need another person fussing over her before Billy can growl.
There are a lot of explanations and too many questions. Billy loses track of Steve when they are splitting up to get cleaned up. Too excited at the prospect of a shower after so long in the upside down to be too frustrated at not having him in sight for a shower while.
-
Steve is cleaned up, scent sprays scrubbed off but he is not feeling better, not really, it is only a matter of time before slick is soiling his borrowed pants in a telling way. He is in a recently abandoned trailer two down from the Munson trailer. The place so recently vacated that the water is still on. Robin came with, washing up first and keeping watch before he sent her to find Eddie.
It seems like an eternity before the alpha comes through the door and Steve immediately starts “I need you to help me.”
“Yeah sure, what do you need?” Eddie cocks a smile, eyes looking at Steve’s belly assuming he needs help with his wounds and looking for evidence.
Steve’s wounds have been dressed, Robin helped him with them unaffected by his scent despite the closeness. “You’re an alpha.”
“Yeah and you’re a beta.” Eddie says, mouth quirks up like they are playing a game he does not understand yet but he is trying.
Steve’s hands are in front of him, fingers twisting together. “No.”
“What?” Eddie squints at him scratching his head with confusion.
“I’m not a beta and I’m going into heat.” Steve takes a few steps closer until he sees Eddie’s eyes widen as he catches a whiff of his scent
“Oh... okay and you need me to do what?” Eddie asks, stepping back a few paces, nearly tripping as his thigh catches the arm of the little worn down couch that had been left behind.
“I know it’s a big ask but I need you to help me through it. It ends quicker when you take a real knot and we don’t exactly have the luxury of a lot of time.” Eddie is not his first choice but he is the only viable option that will not leave Steve heartbroken from rejection.
Eddie’s whole face scrunches up, limbs flailing as he backs away even further. “I think you should be asking Hargrove.”
“He hates me.” Steve could not bear asking and then being rejected by him.
“He really doesn’t.” Eddie laughs and Steve cannot help the way it makes him flinch back, taking a few extra steps back himself.
“He beat me up and then spent a year pretending I didn’t exist.” Not exactly the hallmarks of positive feelings.
“He saved your life.” Eddie counters, finger going up like he is going to list things when that is the only thing he could possibly list. He knows Steve is wrong about this though, knows Billy like him, would jump at the chance to help him through his heat. Possessive bastard might kill Eddie just for getting the offer before him.
“He didn’t know it was me.” Steve huffs, bottom lip jutting out as he crosses his arms.
“If you aren’t going to ask him why don’t you ask Nancy?” Eddie shakes his head, no way is he getting killed by Billy for this. Nancy seems nice enough but better her facing Billy’s wrath than him.
“She’s with Jonathan, you’re single.” Reasonable even though Eddie is pretty sure something is not right there. A growing wedge between the would be couple but the way Nancy keeps looking at Robin is its own problem for why she is not an option for Steve now.
“I could be with someone you don’t know everything about me.” Eddie deflects for lack of a better argument.
“Are you?” Steve asks, looking disbelieving and Eddie is honestly a little offended.
“No but that isn’t the point you need to ask Hargrove.” The door opens as the words leave his mouth, Billy’s strong scent telling him who just walked in before he even turns to look.
“Ask me what?” Billy steps in, closing the door behind him with a raised eyebrow.
“Nothing!” Steve shouts, scent coloring with embarrassment.
“He’s going into heat and he needs a knot.” Eddie points a thumb over his shoulder at Steve.
“Eddie what the fuck?” Steve squawks.
“I’m not dying for you. I’m a coward, remember.” Eddie glances at Steve over his shoulder before turning back to Billy looking ready to boil. “You two have fun.” He is quick as he slips past Billy making his exit, regardless of how things go he does not want to be here.
“You’re an omega?” Billy asks, voice careful a telling tremor of something else lurking, stance stiff.
“That’s none of your business.” Steve scoffs, turning away cheeks flaming. Stupid Eddie and his stupid big mouth.
“You asked the freak to knot you?” Billy did not need to hear more from Eddie to catch the drift of the conversation, anger coursing through him at the very idea of anyone but him helping Steve in such an intimate way.
“I, I figured he’d be my best bet.” Steve shrugs back still to Billy, until footsteps stomp across the short distance and he is being spun around.
“I wasn’t an option?” Billy's anger is in the air unmistakable but Steve is not swayed, he has been ignoring scent cues for as long as he can remember.
“You, no.” Steve laughs in his face.
“Why the fuck not?” Billy growls taking a menacing step forward, nostrils flaring as he gets a good whiff of Steve. He smells, good even upset, Billy just wants to bury his nose in his neck.
“Last time I checked you hate me!” Steve shouts.
Billy falters, the anger draining out of him. “I don’t hate you, I never hated you!” His tongue flicks out over his lips hopeful when Steve’s scent shifts curios. “Ask me.” His eyes watch the way Steve pulls his lip in. Billy wants to lean in and catch it between his own as Steve’s scent goes warm. “Please ask me.” Billy sounds begging even to his own ears but he wants this, wants Steve so bad and he can taste him in the air, wants to taste him from the source.
Steve hesitates for a moment, eyes searching Billy’s looking for any sign of deceit. He does not find any, cannot detect any insincerity in his scent. He sucks in a deep calming breath. “Billy, would you help me through my heat?”
Steve shivers at the pleased growl Billy lets out as he crowds into his space. “I’m going to do a hell of a lot more than that.”
“Uh that isn’t necessary.” Steve flushes, wanting that even as he tries to remind himself they have a time limit, this cannot last days. It is hard to focus on other things when Billy’s hands are on him, pulling him closer.
“I’m going to rock your world, going to fill you so good you’ll never want another alpha.” Billy growls forehead pressing against Steve’s, lips brushing against his, their heady spicy scents feeding off one another.
“That’s, that-” Sounds fantastic.
“Yeah, sounds good right?” Billy grins, voice a husky whisper. “Let me, show you how good I can be for you?” Steve nods. “Can’t hear you pretty boy.” Billy says grin widening when it makes Steve’s nose scrunched up with annoyance.
Two can play at that game and Steve takes a guess on what button to push, dead on direct hit. “Yes alpha.” Billy’s scent is so strong Steve cannot smell anything else as the alpha surges forward with a growl to catch him in a hungry kiss that steals his breath. Steve has no complaints, except he had been curious to what that beard would feel like, a little disappointed Billy shaved when he got his first shower in months. He kisses like he is trying to devour and Steve whines into it wanting to be devoured.
Steve’s back hits the wall, a thigh pressed between his as they pull at each other's clothes. Billy pressing into him, mouth unwavering, fabric ripping and Steve might complain if he was not just as desperate to have them removed. Steve pants come free, ripped at the seams, the slick pouring out of him making them stick for a second before gravity does its job and the remains are slipping away from him to pool on the ground.
Steve gasps as Billy turns him, hands slapping against the wall as Billy drops to his knees and licks at his slick covered thighs. “Billy.” Steve hisses, impatiens, hips hitching as Billy’s teeth graze the skin for half a second before digging in sharp, no doubt leaving a mark behind.
Billy pulls back just enough to admire the purpling park, surrounded by the red indents of his teeth. It is going to last a while, a pleased burr bubbling up as he leans in and leaves another one on the back of his other thigh. “Billy.” Steve whines again, breath hitching when Billy shifts one of his legs up, knee braced against the wall, foot against his shoulder so he can freely lick at the fresh slick gushing from his hole.
Billy presses his mouth flush with Steve’s rim tongue pressing as deep as it can go dragging a high moan out of the omega. It does not last long, a hand curling in his hair and tugging painfully until Billy pulls back with a growl.
Steve does not back down, fingers curling tighter scent curling with more heat as he growls just as fiercely. "Give me your knot. We don't have time for anything else right now.” Steve demands, wanting it, the need only made worse by the way Billy’s scent swells higher. “Please alpha.” Steve simpers leading Billy and his heated eyes exactly where he wants him.
Billy surges up, mouth crashing against Steve’s as he pushes his sweatpants down enough for his cock to be freed. “There'll be time for more later?” Billy growls the question against the back of Steve's neck as he pins him against the wall, his cock pressing between his fuzzy cheeks. Dripping cock head getting wetter from all of the slick gushing out of Steve’s rim as it drags over it.
“Yeah Billy, plenty of time for you to show me after we deal with the upside down. Right now we just need to, need to get me through this.” Steve groans, trying to shift back to get that cock where he wants it, Billy’s strong hands keeping him from taking more than the tip but even that has him clenching, cock kicking dripping pre. “Billy.” Steve complains, hands pressed flat against the wall as he tries to push back, whining when it gets him nowhere.
“Shush, I’ve got you omega, all mine now.” Billy bites deep and hard right under Steve’s glands as he pushes in. Billy’s knot is already half inflated, Steve’s so wet and ready it easily slips in until his hips are flush with the meat of his ass. “Feel so good pretty boy, always knew you would.” Billy mutters, sucking at the mark he left under Steve’s glands making it deepen.
Steve moans, rocking as much as he can against the dick in his as, hips circling the best he can do with the way Billy has him pinned against the wall. “Alpha, move.” Steve requests, groaning again when those teeth bite deeper and his cock kicks, spitting pre against the wall as it adds to his pleasure.
Billy keeps sucking at his neck, shifting to leave a new hickey as he starts thrusting, hips pulling back, tip nearly leaving Steve empty before slamming back in, keeping the omega pinned against the wall. It is just the sounds of their pleasure and the wet slaps of Billy’s balls against Steve’s slick thighs filling the air. The scent of them engulfs the place, eradicating the mildew scent that clung to the abandoned trailer.
Steve had dreams about taking Billy’s knot before, woke up to sticky sheets and an unfulfillable longing in his belly. This is better than anything he could have imagined, because Billy is alive and real and solid against his back, knot catching against his rim with each hard slam in, dragging over his prostate in a way that has him seeing stars.
There is sweat drenching their skin, Billy lapping it off of Steve’s neck even as he drips more onto him. He is not going to last, built up this fantasy for far too long, the reality more than he can take. Billy presses a hand between Steve and the wall and starts stroking him off in time with his thrusts.
“Shit B-” Steve curses as Billy’s knot starts expanding, putting more pressure on his prostate, the hand on his cock adding to his building pleasure. His visions whites, keening high as he cums, clenching down around the knot as Billy growls, his seed hot as it starts filling him.
They are tied together, Steve clenching making Billy groan and shift, wanting more and over sensitive at the same time. He lifts Steve, awkwardly walking them over to the couch and settles them there as gently as he can, kissing at Steve’s long neck mouth lingering over his bonding glands. He wants to sink his teeth in and break them, tie them together forever but instead he settles for mouthing at them, tongue pressing over them, leaving his scent. There is time for bonding later, after Vecna is dealt with and they actually have time to talk.
Steve shifts, pressing back, already horny again before Billy’s knot has even deflated. Billy wraps a hand around his cock again, fingers stroking against Steve’s chest toying with a nipple making him arch and moan. He will satisfy all of Steve's needs, get him ready for the fight to come and then he will set about showing him what a good alpha he can be once the fight is over and he can take his time.

Vecna is not easy but they manage it, with some injuries. Billy checks on Max, resting with Lucas at her bedside unwilling to leave. A healing coma the doctors called it when they sedated her, hoping that it would help heal some of the damage to her eyes and give her limbs a good start. Billy regrets not paying her more attention when he first got out of the upside down but he had been preoccupied. She is going to live, he can give her the time she was seeking once she wakes back up.
Billy heads down the hall ignoring looks from people curious about his miraculous recovery after being declared dead last year. The government is already weaving their lies to fix both his and Eddie’s current issues as well as explaining away the other weirdness. He slips into the room Eddie and Steve are sharing, feeling annoyed over their matching injuries.
Eddie is asleep, the machines hooked up to him a steady but Billy finds Steve awake curled on his side watching the setting sun through the half open blinds his machines a little more active. “Hey.” Billy mutters toeing his shoes off and slipping onto the bed, pressing into Steve’s space and curling around him.
Steve goes tense machines pinging higher for half a second, catching Billy’s hand and pulling it closer to his face so he can get a better sniff of him before relaxing back into him. The machines easing with him “You okay?” Billy drops a kiss against Steve’s glands making him shudder.
“Just got lost in thought for a minute, hard to smell under the hospital stink.” Steve complains rolling to face Billy despite the way it makes the injuries to his stomach pull. Billy is careful to shift the wire attached to the monitors up and over so it does not get tangled.
“Worrying about the upside down?” Billy ventures, drawing Steve closer into his neck when he nods. “Well I’m right here. Got your back now, not going anywhere.” Billy promises. They still have a lot to figure out but even if things do not work out the way he wants them to, he is still going to keep it.
“You’re sticking around?” Steve asks hopeful, nose buried against Billy’s neck, never wanting to leave.
“You trying to get rid of me?” Steve shakes his head definitely not. “Not going anywhere. You’re here.” Billy burrs, nosing at the hair right behind Steve’s hair. Steve is warm in the gut heat pooling in his belly as he drops his own kisses against Billy’s skin making the alpha flush, his scent deepening as he pulls him tighter.
“I believe there were some promises made.” Steve whispers, shifting until one of his thighs slides between Billy’s the alpha shifting to return the favor, the machines growing louder again. Billy rolls them, Steve ending up on top where his injuries are less likely to be bothered, thick thighs pressing against growing bulged.
“Meant every word. How about I get started on some of those right now?” It is barely a question, their mouths crashing together before the last word is even fully out. They roll their hips together, hands wandering and mouths exploring any bit of flesh they can get to.
“Could you assholes wait until we aren't sharing a hospital room!” Eddie shouts through the curtain. Billy and Steve share a laugh and consider his request for half a second as their noses brush before they are kissing again. Eddie all but forgotten.
