Chapter Text
She remembered crying. Her heart aching so bad it felt like the pain might never end. Like someone had ripped her heart out of her chest and made her watch.
But when she looked into those dark blue eyes once more, she only remembered love, she remembered being home.
That’s what Kit had always felt like. Home. They felt like warmth and love and safety. Kit only had to look into those dark brown eyes and it was as if they’d forgotten how to breathe.
They’d all been walking and running and avoiding things since they’d managed to get Kit back. They’d barely had the chance to breathe and think let alone talk about things that had happened.
However, they had managed to get closer to finding Airk, after what seemed like months of riding horses and slaying whatever got in their way and each of them being kidnapped at various stages.
It was quiet when they finally had a moment. The fire blazing with warmth and light. Elora making food that always smelled incredibly good and smelt like home back in Tir Asleen. Boorman playing around with his weapons and Graydon still figuring out how he hadn’t stabbed himself with one of them.
Willow was quietly laying by the fire. Looking up at the stars, smiling as his family was all safe and sound around him.
Kit standing near Jade, looking up at the stars and they’d missed seeing when they’d been locked away by the trolls, Jade smiling at Elora who was teasing Willow by using the wand as a wooden spoon to stir the food.
“It’s nice, isn’t it? Seeing everyone back together again.” Jade finally spoke.
Kit smiled at the redhead. Just the thought of Jade had managed to keep them going when the trolls had kidnapped them and they’d begun to wonder if they ever really would make it out alive.
“We’re alive….and in one piece….somehow.” Jade giggled at Kit’s comment. “I’d say that’s pretty good going for us.” Kit took Jade’s hand in theirs.
Smoothing a thumb over the redheads knuckles before lifting both their hands up towards their mouth to place a gentle kiss against each of Jade’s knuckles.
A slow exhale coming from the redhead as she watched Kit do so. She found herself moving closer towards the princess. Both of them always gravitating towards one another.
Her hands on either side of Kit’s neck as she pulled the brunette in, both of them closing the gap between them finally as they met in a passionately slow kiss, much waited and longed for by both.
Each of them breathing in each other’s air as their lips moved against each other. Jade’s tongue sliding against Kit’s bottom lip, seeking the entrance that they’d both yearned for for so long.
Kit couldn’t wait any longer, opening their lips just a little wider, allowing Jade’s tongue to slip through and find their own, battling for dominance softly.
But when breathing became a necessity once again, Kit reluctantly pulled away.
“I forgot that we still needed to breathe.” Kit joked.
“Maybe we should slow down.” Jade smirked as her thumb made its way to stroke against Kit’s bottom lip. “But I do remember telling you that once I kissed you I’d never be able to stop.”
Kit smiled almost dreamily and Jade was thankful that the brunette’s hands were on her waist keeping her stable otherwise she’d have been on the floor.
Jade leaned in once again, kissing Kit again, almost as if stopping would make the princess disappear again and Jade wasn’t risking that. Not after everything they’d been through.
And Kit wasn’t surprised when they felt the backs of their legs touch a tree stump which Jade gently pushed their chest in order to get them to sit down before straddling the Princesses lap, her legs either side of Kit, keeping them in place.
The kiss becoming slightly more heated but neither of them wanting to stop or pull away, not even when Kit’s lips moved their way down Jade’s neck, creating a small pathway of heat against the vein that was pulsing twice as fast as normal.
“So much for taking things slow.” Kit smirked.
Jade’s hands wriggling their way through Kit’s shorter hair, tugging it gently in order to keep them close, small gasps coming from both of them at the sensations.
“I don’t think either of us could take things slow even if we tried.” Jade almost moaned out but managed to keep some dignity within herself as she remembered how far away their friends were.
“I love you.” Kit pulled back gently so that they could look into those dark brown eyes that they’d always seemed to dream of.
Jade’s hands brushing back the Princesses hair to clearly see those blue eyes without anything in the way.
“I love you too. I’ve always loved you and I don’t think I know how to stop.” Jade kissed them once more, both of them smiling into the kiss.
—————————
The two of them had settled down by the fire. Hand in hand, Jade holding onto one of their arms in order to keep them close, not wanting to physically let them go, not that Kit minded.
Laying down side by side, Boorman smirking and smiling at the fact that the two people that he’d been waiting on to finally get their shit together and talk about their feelings had done exactly just that.
“I hope you’re hungry, I made a lot of food.” Elora laughed a little. Always used to making enough food to last days.
Willow smiled at how far they’d all seemed to come from where they’d all started. From a ragtag group that bickered about their differences to a found family that stood by each other.
—————————
After the night ended and the sun rose up, Jade blinked her eyes open, her eyes fluttering in order to adjust to the light, to find blue eyes staring at her lovingly.
“Hey.” Kit whispered.
“You could have woken me up.” Jade spoke calmly as she nestled into Kit’s shoulder.
“You looked so peaceful sleeping. I didn’t want to disturb you.” Kit placed a gentle kiss on the top of the redheads head.
They allowed themselves a few more minutes to just lay there peacefully. Wrapped up each other and content within each others arms.
Looking up at the sky, the clouds moving ever so slowly and the sun brightly shining, Kit never wanted it to end, wanting to wake up next to Jade every morning and going to sleep next to her every night for the rest of their lives.
But the sound of Boorman’s voice was what made everyone get up and ready to continue the journey to find Airk.
————————
Kit had almost forgotten a life before all the running and fighting and being endlessly kidnapped and separated from the group.
It almost made them long for the dresses and gowns that they’d be forced to wear. Almost.
But they’d never longed more for anything than they had for Jade’s smile, for Jade’s hand in theirs, for their lips to be pressed together once more, for those bright brown eyes shining on a summers day.
And they could have sworn that their heart skipped a few beats when Jade so much as looked at them.
They’d been walking for a while and Jade’s hand had never left Kit’s. Their palms against each other as their fingers intertwined.
Jade praying that Kit never let go. The two of them walking side by side, hand in hand. And they both couldn’t help but think that this was the way things were always supposed to be.
That they were supposed to exist together in this world, side by side and hand in hand, that as long as they had each other they could battle any trolls, fight any war, withstand any spell, handle and torture as long as they had each other.
————————
Neither of them were sure when it happened, but Kit found themselves pressed up against the wall of something, maybe a cave, maybe a tree trunk, they hadn’t had chance to check before Jade had her hands either side of Kit’s head, their lips colliding in a passionately heated kiss.
As if she’d been waiting for the perfect moment to finally plant one on them. Kit could only smirk into the kiss in response, glad they weren’t only one growing impatient.
Kit’s hands found their way back to Jade’s hips, pulling her in closer to them, both of them holding in and tugging whatever they could.
Jade panting gently as she kissed her way down Kit’s neck, pulling back slightly to breathe after kissing a spot just under and behind Kit’s ear causing them to groan with pleasure ever so slightly.
The two of them now facing each other, breathing in each other’s warm and passion filled air. Kit’s hand moving a couple loose strands of red hair from out of Jade’s eyes before gently resting on the knights cheek, slowly stroking a thumb against it as the redhead’s eyes closed briefly at the touch.
Jade’s hands scratching nicely at Kit’s scalp, the two of them looking around to see if they could spot the others before Jade rested her forehead against Kit’s chin. The brunette pressing the most gentle and caring kiss against the knights forehead.
“We should probably catch up to the others.” Kit whispered against Jade’s forehead.
Grumbling and agreeing with the brunette, Jade stood up first, tugging her clothes back into their correct places and smoothing everything down before extending a hand towards Kit in which they took gratefully.
Hand in hand once again as they walked in order to catch up with the others.
————————
“If you two would like to stop sneaking off to make out with each other that would be greatly appreciated.” Willow made his point lovingly in his own way.
“Yeah, if something had of happened to one of us….you’d have never known.” Graydon spoke up even though he was 90% sure they’d probably never notice even if he was gone.
“I think it’s cute and incredible that you’ve finally sorted out your feelings for one another but let’s wait until we have an actual building with separate rooms before the two of you start anything.” Elora smiled softly.
She was almost certain that they were close to finding Airk, they had to be, they’d come all this way and survived and fought through so much, none of them were giving up now but it didn’t make their desire to be in a building with four walls and a bed any less a desire.
Jade was physically aching to just be somewhere alone with Kit where they wouldn’t have to worry about being walked in on or about a troll stealing one of them away or about being kidnapped or having to fight someone.
Kit also wanted just that. A moment alone with their girlfriend. The chance to just be in a room alone with her. They could almost tell what Jade was thinking when she got lost in thought as she was staring at the brunette whilst cleaning or packing weapons away and when Kit locked eyes with the redhead, they simply smirked and her face went bright red knowing they’d been caught.
————————
“What are you thinking about?” Kit whispered into Jade’s ear, their arms wrapped around the knights stomach from behind as they’d run after her after noticing that she’d walked off to look at something.
Jade relaxed back into Kit, her back meeting Kit’s front as she rested her hands on top of Kit’s. “I’m thinking about when all of this is finally over and we can go home.”
Jade’s face lighting up like a Christmas tree as Kit placed a gentle kiss to her temple. “Home is wherever you are. I don’t ever want to be separated from you again, I don’t want to have another adventure unless it’s with you. I meant it when I said it before and I mean it now.” Kit mumbled against her, still loud enough that she’d hear it.
Both of them looked up at the stars that surrounded them in the sky before they’d decided that sitting down would be a safer option, Kit wrapping a blanket around them so that the two of them wouldn’t have to separate but instead get closer together.
