Summary
The slash of a sword brings Kit back to her reality. The thud of Jade’s back hitting on the ground and her sword clattering against the dirt echoes in the satisfied corners of her mind. Sparring with Jade is something she’s done a million times before—the two of them know each other better than anyone else; anticipating every single move, every dodge, slash, and fake. It’s frustrating at times.

Summary
They’d escaped it, the moon before.
“It’s every three,” Kit had whispered hopefully into the crook of Jade’s neck, after they’d bathed together in the ice-cold mountain stream near the cabin they shared for the time being. They’d drunk their fill of fresh water, eaten to satisfy their newly-hungry bellies, scrubbed the rut-funk off of themselves with rough moss. “Sometimes every four moons, if we’re lucky. We’ll be fine.”
Jade had curled herself around Kit’s body and tried to memorize the soft, relieved shape of it. She’d closed her eyes and allowed the wild tousle of Kit’s hair to tickle her nose, and tried to ignore the sinking ache in her belly.

Summary
Jade had never felt, never loved, anything or anyone as deeply as she did Kit. She was drawn to the princess like a magnet, forever doomed to come back to her. Although Kit had said she would follow Jade anywhere it was Jade who would follow her princess to the ends of the realm, whether she was Kit’s official knight or not.
Not Kit, Jade desperately cried in her mind, anybody but her please, I cannot lose her.
Or
A slight canon-divergent retelling of Kit's drowning, but a bit more sad, and a soft, gay ending.
