Work Text:
Jungkook moved his floppy left ear from his eye so he could better work on the finishing touches of his latest order. The rabbit hybrid had gotten a seasonal job at the local florist, hoping to earn enough money to finally be able to buy his best friend and crush Seokjin a gift for Valentine’s Day.
He dared not tell any of his friends about his second job since he was still pretty embarrassed about needing it as he was the only one of them who did not seem to have his life as put together as the rest of them. Each of his friends had great jobs and nice condos and homes, while he still lived with his mother.
It was not easy for prey hybrids to find well paying jobs since the world seemed to revolve around predator hybrids. Of course, he would have had an easier time finding a better job if he had not dropped out of high school, but he was still studying the equivalency book Seokjin had given him last month.
School was never easy for Jungkook. He always found it confusing and difficult. He never really wanted a high paying job like most of his peers, instead dreaming of the day he could have kits of his own. He wanted to be a stay-at-home bunny and take care of his family, but until then, he did his best to help his mom out at home.
He finally finished the bouquet, setting it on the “to be delivered” shelf for the delivery boy to pick up later that afternoon.
Grabbing his next order sheet, he saw it was for the “bunny bouquet” – a special bouquet made of orange roses and lime green carnations set in the shape of a rabbit wearing a little silk sash that bore the message and name of the sender. It was Jungkook’s favorite bouquet to make for obvious reasons!
Gathering his supplies, he began humming to himself as he slowly and surely built the bunny, taking special care to choose only the prettiest flowers. Whoever was receiving it, was truly a lucky person, and he was going to make sure it was beautiful.
Putting the final flower in place, he pulled a little silk sash from the drawer and grabbed his calligraphy marker, ready to write the message for the lucky person. He began writing, reading a few words at a time as he did since he wanted to be sure and not mess up his handwriting.
For my precious bun,
You mean so much to me. Every day I get to see your smile is a day my life is brighter. I only wish I was brave enough to tell you how in love with you I really am.
- Yours forever
Jungkook checked for a name to sign, but the order read “please keep this anonymous”. Ooh, a secret admirer, how romantic! Smiling, he gently placed the sash onto the bunny before looking for an address for the delivery guy.
Reading the order form, his eyes went wide. He had to reread it several times to be sure, but there on the form under “recipient” was his name and address! Someone was sending him this wonderful bouquet! Curiosity got the better of him and he scanned the order form for a name. And there, at the bottom of the form, was the name and signature of the man he had been in love with for years – Seokjin!
He felt his heart beating out of his chest, his breath nearly knocked from his body. Sitting down, he ran his hand down his face before it fully hit him. Seokjin liked him back! SEOKJIN LIKED HIM BACK!
Pulling out his phone, he quickly sent a text to his friend asking him to meet him at this address. He did not bother telling him why or what the address was just saying he really needed to see him.
Seokjin had the day off, so he headed out to meet Jungkook at the address he gave him. It seemed like a familiar one but he could not remember why he knew it. Until he got closer. The florist shop! How did Jungkook find out about the flowers? Maybe it was just a coincidence. Hopefully. Maybe.
Walking in, he saw Jungkook leaning on the counter, admiring a bouquet like the one he ordered. He gulped, nervous at what his friend would say. He had been in love with Jungkook for years but worried he would not be interested since he was a wolf hybrid. What if he ended their friendship?
“It’s pretty, don't you think?” Jungkook said, smiling at him.
“Um, y-yes.”
“You know when I first saw that we came out with this bouquet, I was so excited to be able to possibly make one. I was also a little jealous and sad since I knew I'd never get anything this pretty or nice. I've never gotten a Valentine’s Day gift, did you know that?”
He shook his head, afraid of he spoke he would betray himself.
“I figured I never would. Especially not one this pretty or expensive. But I did,” he turned to look at Seokjin with tears in his eyes.
Seokjin hurried over, grabbing a tissue from the box on the counter, “Bun, please don't cry,” he said, wiping away Jungkook’s tears. “It’s okay if you don't want to accept them…”
“Don't want to accept them?! Do you know how long I've loved you? The whole reason I got the job was so I could save money to buy you something for Valentine’s.”
“You wanted to buy me something? You like me back?”
“I don't just like you. I love you. So, so much.”
Seokjin got real quiet, bowing his head and sniffling. “I-I never thought…Please don't play with me.”
“I’m not! I love you!”
“You’ll be my boyfriend?” he mumbled shyly, his tail between his legs, too afraid to look up at the bunny.
Jungkook reached over and grabbed Seokjin’s hand, kissing it sweetly, “I would love nothing more.”
Seokjin waited for Jungkook to get his belongings, and his relief to come in. Then the two of them walked to Seokjin’s home, bouquet in tow. There they ordered their favorite delivery and watched sappy romance movies until the sun came up the next day when he walked Jungkook home and kissed him goodbye.
It may be have been a tiny peck, but it was enough to make both of their hearts beat with happiness for they knew it would be the first of many.
