Work Text:
“Yo! Anybody in there?” Jounouchi said, waving a hand between them. “What’s going on, bud? What’s got you so distracted?”
Yugi gulped, forcing his eyes back to his cards in hand. His other self hovered unseen beside him, a smirk decorating his lips. He leaned in close to Yugi’s ear.
Yes, why are you so distracted? Yami’s tone was teasing and far too knowing.
They were at Retro Duels, one of the many Domino game shops which hosted tabletop nights. He and Jounouchi were there for the Magic the Gathering tournament. It was a nice change of pace when compared to Duel Monsters, but Jounouchi was still struggling with the basics.
“Sorry, Jou,” Yugi said sheepishly.
“You better not be taking it easy on me, that’s all I’m saying!” Jounouchi said, a grin spreading across his cheeks. “Unless I’ve finally gotcha on the ropes, huh?”
Yugi maintained his poker face as he drew his next card. He tapped his Timeless Lotus and five more mana, then sacrificed his World Tree. He went hunting through his deck, suppressing a shiver when Yami trailed a ghostly finger along his spine.
It’s okay, Partner, Yami purred. I’ve been eying tonight’s distraction, too.
Shush, you! Yugi said, trying not to squirm beneath his crimson gaze.
Meanwhile, Jounouchi stared in horror as Yugi summoned twelve god cards, each of them with various complicated effects. Purphoros gave all of his creatures haste, so he declared his attacks.
“Uh,” Jounouchi said.
“You should be able to block most of them,” Yugi said kindly.
Jounouchi grumbled as he dutifully blocked a handful of Yugi’s creatures, which resulted in his entire board being wiped, except for his commander. His life total went from 21 down to three.
“Man…” Jounouchi groaned. “Okay, upkeep phase…Yeah, I got nothing left to upkeep…I’ll draw…”
It seemed that Jounouchi would need a few minutes to come up with a response. Yugi’s gaze slid from his friend to the front of the store.
He watched as a couple of players shuffled away from the service counter, revealing the store clerk. He was a bronze-skinned man with an eccentric fashion sense, yet it suited him extraordinarily well. He wore a burgundy tank top with a red mana symbol, and a black kilt that fell all the way to mid-calf. A series of bracelets and rings decorated his arms. Deep red eyes were lined with kohl, curving into sharp wings.
The first time Yugi locked eyes with him, his insides somersaulted.
I can read your mind, love, Yami reminded him.
Yugi suppressed a sigh. Okay, fine! He’s really attractive!
Yami chuckled. You have a type.
Yugi huffed quietly. Yes, the clerk did resemble his other self, the only difference being their skin tone. Even their hair was the same, which was remarkable given the shock of blonde, red and black that sat like a crown on their heads. Yugi once believed that he alone was blessed with such a bizarre hairstyle.
You think he’s hot, too, Yugi grumbled.
Yami shrugged easily. I have good taste.
Or you’re just super vain!
Yami grinned as he nuzzled against Yugi’s cheek. Yugi leaned into his warmth, his transparent form cloaking Yugi like a blanket.
Perhaps I am, Yami said. We share a body, after all, and I find you absolutely breathtaking.
Yugi’s face turned pink.
“Alright, I give up!” Jounouchi announced, making Yugi jolt in shock. He’d forgotten they were still playing. “There’s no coming back from that. You win, Yug’.”
Yugi beamed and pumped his fist into the air. He began the arduous process of shuffling his cards as someone approached their table. Yugi spotted a pair of buckled leather boots attached to tanned legs. He swallowed, averting his eyes.
He’s gorgeous up close, Yami informed him. Yugi had no doubt about that.
“Who won?” The clerk asked, and oh no, his voice was similar to Yami’s, too.
And Yami knew how much he liked his rich, baritone voice.
“Yugi did,” Jounouchi said with a dramatic sigh. “He always does!”
“Ah, so you’re Yugi.” Yugi blinked up at the clerk, trying not to fall apart beneath his warm gaze. He smiled and continued, “I’ve only just started working here, but I’ve seen your name come up.”
“Y—you have?” Yugi squeaked.
“Yes, we keep records of our past MTG winners,” he explained. “You’ve won every week for the last two months.”
Yugi rubbed the back of his head bashfully. “I—well, yeah! I’m pretty good at Duel Monsters, so maybe it’s a transferable skill.”
Jounouchi rolled his eyes to the heavens. “Pretty good?”
“Jou, don’t!” Yugi pleaded.
“Yugi here is the King of Games!” Jounouchi announced. “He’s the world champion of Duel Monsters!”
Everyone around them was gawking now, murmurings carrying loud enough that Yugi’s ears burned with embarrassment. He slid down in his seat, trying to disappear.
It’s alright, Partner, Yami said gently. You should be proud.
Other Me, can you take over?
Partner—
Please?
The Puzzle flashed in an instant, too quick for anyone else to notice. Yugi yielded to Yami’s control, grateful as always to vanish when nerves got the better of him.
“Is that true?” The clerk asked, his eyes wide.
“Yes,” Yami said easily. His gaze travelled up the clerk’s torso, pausing on his nametag. When he met his gaze, Yami said, “A pleasure to meet you, Atem.”
Atem regarded him with interest before offering his hand. They shook with equally matched grips, Atem’s jewellery pressing into pale skin.
“Nice to meet you as well,” Atem said. He looked up at the small crowd staring in their direction. He called out, “Let’s get back to the tournament, everyone!”
Heads whipped back around as if scolded. Yugi smiled gratefully at Atem, even though he couldn’t see him. Instead, Atem said to Yami, “Feel free to play another round. I don’t think the others will be finished for a while.”
“Sounds good to me!” Jounouchi whooped. “Gives me one more chance to beat you!”
“We’ll see,” Yami said with a confident smirk.
By the end of the night, Jounouchi had lost yet again, while Yami was declared the winner of the tournament. Yugi floated beside him, glowing with pride as Yami was handed his prize: a sealed booster box.
You’ve gotten so much better at Magic! Yugi said happily. I bet you could beat me easily now!
Yami hummed. Well, I have a great teacher.
Yugi grinned and pressed a phantom kiss to his cheek. Yami smiled serenely and released his hold on their shared body, allowing Yugi to regain control.
As Yugi packed up, Jounouchi approached Atem at the counter. He was eyeballing some of the single cards available in the glass cabinet. Yugi slowly put away his deck, trying to avoid looking in their direction.
Why don’t you talk to him?
And say what? Yugi replied.
Amusement brushed against his mind. ‘Are you busy this Friday?’
Yugi mentally flicked him, eliciting a huff of laughter.
“I’ll wait outside, Jou,” Yugi said, keeping his head bowed as he made for the exit.
He was nearly there when Atem called out, “Yugi.”
Yugi froze mid-step. Yami, who drifted in front of him, spun around and smiled encouragingly. Yugi released an anxious breath before turning back.
“Yeah?” Yugi asked, keeping his voice as even as possible.
Atem nodded towards the centre of his chest. “I like your pendant.”
“Oh!” Yugi beamed as he drew closer, always happy to show it off. Yami took the opportunity to return to his soul room, fading from Yugi’s peripherals. “It’s a puzzle. It was a gift from my grandpa.”
Atem nodded eagerly. “I recognise the design. It’s of Egyptian origin.” He grinned and added, “Like myself.”
Yugi laughed, perhaps louder than was strictly necessary, but Atem seemed pleased by his response.
“Are the owners of this place Egyptian, too?” Yugi asked, gesturing to the shop's decor.
There were several nods to Egypt’s ancient culture: a wadjet eye was painted on the front door, plus an image of Isis rose behind the counter, her wings spread protectively across the wall.
“Yes, my cousin Malik actually owns this store,” Atem said.
“That’s awesome!” Yugi said, relieved to find some common ground. “My grandpa owns Kame Game. It’s a few blocks from here.”
Atem leaned forward on his elbows, arms draped elegantly across the counter. Yugi noted the black paint on his nails. “Really? I’ve heard good things about that place.”
Yugi swallowed. He suddenly became very aware of just how handsome this man was. He knew that already, of course, but it was another matter entirely when Atem was gazing at him with such piercing eyes.
The temperature had suddenly risen a couple of degrees. Perhaps the AC had stopped working.
“Y—yeah,” Yugi replied, once he found his voice. “I work there, actually.”
Atem tilted his head, blonde bangs kissing the sides of his cheekbones. He smiled and said, “Perhaps I’ll drop by sometime.”
A wave of encouragement rolled through Yugi from his other self. Yami may have returned to the Puzzle, but he was clearly still eavesdropping.
Emboldened, Yugi said, “Yeah! That would be—”
“Alright!” Jounouchi suddenly jerked upright, surprising both Yugi and Atem. “I know exactly which cards I want.”
Atem straightened up, smiling pleasantly at Jounouchi. “Of course!”
Yugi, meanwhile, tried not to be visibly disappointed. As Jounouchi pointed to his various choices, Yami re-emerged from the Puzzle. He fixed Jounouchi with one of his trademark glares.
There was no way that Jounouchi could see him, but he shivered beneath his gaze regardless.
It was close to midnight by the time Yugi reached Kame Game. He’d parted ways with Jounouchi only a few minutes ago, and with Sugoroku on one of his archaeological trips, that left Yugi alone with his thoughts.
Well, not alone. He was never truly alone.
As Yugi kicked off his shoes, Yami floated by the front door. Yugi could feel his eyes on the back of his head.
He’s interested in you, Partner.
Yugi sighed. “You mean Atem?” He moved deeper into the shop, reaching the hallway that led to the living area. “No, he isn’t.”
Yami drifted into Yugi’s vision and raised a brow. He was flirting.
“We were just talking!” Yugi protested as he headed upstairs, taking it two steps at a time. His face was turning red with embarrassment.
Talking? Yami scoffed. I’m surprised he didn’t reach across the counter and kiss you then and there.
Yugi blanched. “Other Me!”
He could hear the smirk in Yami’s voice when he said, Well, I certainly would have.
“Yeah, but you’re my boyfriend,” Yugi reminded him pointedly. “It’s your job to kiss me.”
Yami hummed. So it is.
He drew closer to press his lips to Yugi’s forehead. The physical sensation was akin to a brush of warm air, yet with their hearts bound so tightly together, the love that flooded their connection made it wonderfully real. Yugi’s insides turned to mush.
With Yami levitating a few inches in the air, Yugi had to stand on his toes to kiss him soundly. Their lips met with such tenderness that it dragged the breath from Yugi’s lungs.
When he finally pulled back, he fixed Yami with a stern look. “Anyway, can we please stop talking about Atem?” He swept past him in the direction of his bed. “You’re in trouble.”
Am I? he asked. When Yugi turned back to him, Yami was grinning.
“You have not stopped teasing me tonight,” Yugi said. He dragged his shirt over his head, and Yami’s gaze immediately turned heated. “So yeah, big trouble. Get over here.”
Obediently, Yami closed the distance between them. He traced Yugi’s jawline with reverent fingers, his pupils widening with lust.
Let me make it up to you, love.
A coy smile curved across Yugi’s lips. He sat back on the mattress and made himself comfortable, dragging his jeans down past his hips. He beckoned to Yami with his finger, who lowered himself until there were a bare few inches between them. Yami gazed at him with wonder.
You’re so beautiful.
Yugi flushed. “Hey, no sweet talking. I’m mad at you.”
Yami smiled indulgently. His lips found the slope of Yugi’s neck. My humblest apologies, Partner.
Yugi tilted his chin back to accommodate him. Adrenaline had been coursing through his body for most of the evening, and the deep pitch of Yami’s voice never failed to whet his appetite.
Despite their physical limitations, they’d found other ways of satisfying one another. Yugi began with dragging a hand down his own torso, fingers gliding over pale skin. He took a deep breath and released a slow, luxurious exhale, his muscles unwinding as his hand crept towards his hips.
Above him, Yami watched through half-lidded eyes. His lips were parted in silent awe. Yugi looked up through dark lashes.
“Come on,” Yugi said, sliding further down the mattress. “You know what to do.”
Yami shuddered as his body shifted like water, stripping him of his clothes in an instant. He slotted their bare bodies together, eliciting a shared sigh. He kissed and sucked his way down Yugi’s chest, drawing out goosebumps along his skin. He flattened his tongue against a pink nipple while his fingers found the other. Gently, he pinched the nub as his mouth went to work.
Yugi watched him with breathless lust. The sight and sensation never failed to excite him; the phantom touch sending blood straight to his growing arousal. He palmed himself directly and a relieved moan escaped him. He wrapped a hand around his shaft and fell into a steady rhythm.
Yami never left a trace, no marks nor bruises, yet he seemed to brand him regardless. It was how Yugi eventually found his release, bringing himself to oblivion as Yami lavished his body in featherlight touches. The pleasure mounted until Yugi arched off the bed, his breath catching in his throat. Love and lust burned through their connection, echoing between them in beautiful ecstasy.
Once his needs were tended to, Yugi reached for a clean washcloth he kept by his bedside. He wiped away the mess and pulled the duvet over his shoulders. Yami nuzzled into his hair, curling around him in a protective embrace.
Am I forgiven? Yami asked.
Yugi smiled as he closed his eyes. “For now.”
The following week, another Magic tournament drew Yugi and Jounouchi back to Retro Duels. It had taken a great deal of convincing from Jounouchi — and Yami — to get Yugi to show up.
Atem greeted them as soon as they stepped through the door. Yugi’s steps faltered, stunned yet again by his otherworldly beauty. He wore the same kilt as last week, a chain trailing from his belt loop into his pocket. The Dungeons and Dragons ampersand was printed on his shirt, and a pair of gold earrings dangled from his lobes, shining beneath the amber lighting.
Words failed Yugi in that moment, so he settled for a shy wave. Atem waved back, his lips parting in a breathtaking smile.
He’s certainly happy to see you, Yami said.
Yugi hushed him and kept walking.
The night itself passed smoothly enough. Yami emerged for the first few rounds before offering Yugi the chance to play the final matches. It was no surprise to anyone that Yugi won the tournament, obliterating the competition with his new Jodah deck.
Afterwards, Jounouchi was back at the front counter with Atem, flipping through folders of single cards. Yugi’s stomach rolled nervously as he approached them, only barely finding the courage to look Atem in the eye. Atem was leaning on the counter, hands splayed out over the cabinet.
“Hi,” Yugi said eloquently.
Atem cocked his head with a small smirk. “Well, if it isn’t the undisputed champion of Magic.”
Two seconds in and Yugi was already flustered. “Aha…yep, that’s me.”
He rubbed the back of his head. In his peripherals, Yami watched him with open affection, soothing Yugi’s nerves with gentle waves of reassurance.
“So, how are you liking your job?” Yugi asked.
“It’s been great,” Atem said cheerfully. “I actually know something about the product I’m selling.” He shrugged a shoulder. “I’m studying game design, so this place is a good fit.”
Yugi brightened. “No way! I’m studying the same thing!”
“Where at?” Atem asked eagerly. “I’m at Domino Tech.”
“I’m studying online, actually,” Yugi said. “I have to travel for Duel Monster tournaments, so it’s hard to attend classes on campus. I tried for a couple of semesters and gave up,” Yugi chuckled.
“Makes perfect sense,” Atem said solemnly. “I’m in my second year. The workload is…” He winced. “Well, let’s just say I’ve become quite dependent on caffeine.”
Yugi laughed as Yami floated towards Atem, coming to hover beside him. Like this, it was impossible to ignore their similarities: the hue of their eyes, the shape of their jaws, the width of their shoulders.
Ask him out, Yami said.
Yugi blinked, then resolutely ignored him. “I’m more of a tea drinker myself. Although, coffee is a lifesaver when it comes to jet lag.”
“I imagine so,” Atem chuckled. “Are you a Starbucks fan?”
There’s your opening, Partner.
“Oh yeah, I love a good latte.”
You could go there together.
“As do I.”
Ask him!
Before Yami could interrupt Yugi’s train of thought any further, Yugi purposefully knocked a pen off the counter. “Oops! Let me grab that.”
He crouched down, vanishing from Atem’s line of sight. Mentally, he asked, What are you doing?!
He wants you to ask him out.
Yugi scowled at the floor. You’re reading too much into this!
Partner—
Behave, Other Me!
Yugi stood up, dusting himself off and dropping the pen back on the counter. Yami still lingered beside Atem, his lips curved into a smirk.
“By the way,” Atem said, gesturing to the collar around Yugi’s neck. “That’s a nice choker.”
Yugi’s lips parted in surprise. Yami leaned forward, his brows raised pointedly.
“I—uh, thanks!” Yugi wasn’t the best when it came to receiving compliments. He tried, desperately, to come up with a satisfactory response. “I like your, um—”
Yugi glanced at Yami for help. However, Yami gave him absolutely nothing to go on. Instead, he offered him an encouraging twirl of his hand, prompting him to continue.
“Your, uh—style!” Yugi gestured vaguely to Atem’s outfit. “I wish I could pull off your clothes.” Yugi blanched. “Pull off those clothes. Pull off the look, I mean!”
Yugi resolutely shut his mouth. His face burned. Atem stared at him in stunned silence, his cheeks slowly turning red.
Yami, meanwhile, was trying very hard not to laugh. He concealed his smile behind his hand.
“I’m gonna go now,” Yugi announced loudly. He hurried for the door. “I’ll see you later!”
Jounouchi, who had been completely oblivious until now, called after him, “Wh—aren’t I walking ya home, Yug’?”
“Later!”
The moment he reached his room, Yugi threw himself onto the bed. He concealed himself beneath the duvet. A pitiful groan escaped him.
Yugi, my love, Yami said soothingly. Don’t be embarrassed.
“So stupid,” Yugi whined. He remained under the covers, even when he sensed Yami draw closer. “I can’t show my face there ever again.”
Fingers trailed through Yugi’s hair, passing through the shield of his duvet. It’s not a big deal, Yami said.
Yugi huffed but allowed his calming touch. “You’re just trying to make me feel better, Other Me.”
It was endearing, Yami told him. I’m sure Atem found it as adorable as I did.
“You were laughing at me!” Yugi said with a pout.
I’m sorry, love.
Yugi pushed himself upright to glare at him, the duvet falling to his elbows. “I just don’t get it, Other Me. Why are you trying to set me up with Atem in the first place? Sure, maybe he is interested in me, but…I’m not exactly single.”
He’s a good fit for you. Yami’s lips curved to one side. And obscenely handsome.
“You’re missing the point,” Yugi said impatiently. “I’m. Not. Single.”
Yami leaned into Yugi’s field of vision, a wistful smile on his face. It wouldn’t bother me, you know.
Yugi stared at him blankly. “What?”
If you dated another.
Yugi’s mouth fell open. He stared into Yami’s mesmerising gaze, finding nothing but honesty in his eyes.
“I don’t understand,” Yugi said.
Yami glanced away, his smile turning bittersweet. I know we are committed, Partner, but I am still just a spirit. He reached for Yugi’s hand, holding it between his transparent fingers. I wish to ensure that all your needs are met.
“Other Me…” His heart suddenly felt painfully tender. “I love you, okay? You are more than enough for me.”
And I love you dearly, Yami assured him. But you have a generous heart. Even if you were to fall for another, you would not love me any less.
Yugi inhaled shakily. He lifted a hand to Yami’s jawline, feeling the faint silhouette beneath his palm. “I do like Atem, but…I don’t know about actually dating him.”
Think on it, Partner.
Hesitantly, Yugi nodded. He gazed at Yami searchingly. “Do you like him, Other Me?”
A touch of bashfulness decorated Yami’s smile. I do, but that’s not why I—
“I know, I know,” Yugi said. “I only mean that…well, if I became involved with Atem, I want you involved, too. I’m not going to be with someone else while you hide in the Puzzle.”
He kissed Yami’s cheek, feeling the warmth of his soul against his lips. When he drew back, he fixed Yami with a firm gaze.
“We’re a package deal,” Yugi told him. “If Atem dates me, he’s dating both of us.”
Yami’s shoulders shook with silent laughter. That might be difficult to explain to him.
Yugi grinned. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
It was a slow afternoon for Retro Duels. Yugi was well aware because he was dawdling outside, trying to spy inconspicuously through the window. Eventually, Atem spotted him and gave him a friendly wave.
Yugi waved back. Internally, he said, Are you sure you’re okay with this?
Absolutely. There was no hint of hesitation in Yami’s voice. If anything, there was excitement.
Okay, Yugi said, puffing out his chest. I’m going in.
The bell chimed to signal his entry. Atem was in the midst of restocking the display shelf on the front counter. He turned to Yugi and offered him a grin.
“Well, this is a first,” he said. “There’s no Magic on Fridays, Yugi.”
“Yeah, I know.” Butterflies flew frantic circles around his stomach. “I wanted to, um, ask you something.”
Atem gave him his full attention, setting his wares on the counter. “Yes?”
Yugi released a long, anxious breath. Yami opted to hover beside Atem, giving Yugi a thumbs up. Yugi was struck yet again by their remarkable similarities — they were both smiling in Yugi’s direction, their expressions matching perfectly. It was dizzying.
Maybe that was why, instead of asking Atem if he wanted to grab a coffee, he blurted out, “Do you play Duel Monsters?”
Atem blinked at the unexpected question. Yami, meanwhile, tried not to cringe.
“I’m afraid not,” Atem answered. “I’ve never played. I’m more of a Magic player.”
“Right.” Yugi’s brain was screaming at him to come up with something useful; to find some direction to take their conversation. “Do you…want to learn?”
Yami brightened, nodding his encouragement. A slow smile spread across Atem’s cheeks.
“Are you offering to teach me?” Atem asked, leaning his hip against the counter. Yugi recognised the expression on Atem’s face — it was the same face Yami made when he was being playful. Flirty, even.
“I might be,” Yugi said, trying desperately to fight the blush on his cheeks but failing completely. “Um…when are you free?”
Affection blossomed in Yami’s heart, feeding directly into Yugi’s confidence. Atem hummed and said, “Well, I’m not supervising any tournaments tonight, so I finish at five.”
“Cool!” Yugi’s nerves were definitely getting the better of him now. Normally, Yugi would be begging Yami to take over, but he stayed strong. “Well, do you want to…come over? Kame Game isn’t far from here and, uh, I sorta live there, too. Above the shop.”
Yugi stared at his feet, preparing for rejection out of habit. He held his breath.
“I would love to.”
A relieved exhale flew from Yugi’s lips. He looked up and grinned happily at Atem, who regarded Yugi with a sweet smile. Yami’s gaze was one of pride.
Well played, Partner.
Yugi returned to Kame Game with an extra skip in his step.
“Oh no. Oh no, no, no.”
Partner, stay calm.
“Oh boy.” Yugi paced back and forth in the living area, hands raking along his scalp. “Oh god.”
It was a little past five. Yugi had closed up early, the last customer having left some time ago. Atem’s arrival was imminent.
Yugi thought he might throw up.
Take some deep breaths.
“I’m trying,” Yugi hissed. He covered his sternum with his hand, feeling the frantic movements of his chest. “It’s not helping!”
Slower, Partner.
Yugi forced himself to comply. He shut his eyes and inhaled through his nose, counting to three before releasing it. He breathed in, then out—
There was a knock on the front door. Yugi yelped and nearly fell back onto the couch.
“This was such a bad idea.” Yugi gulped audibly. “I can’t do this.”
Yami drifted into Yugi’s vision, cupping his cheeks with careful hands. Yes, you can.
“Nope. Nope, nope.”
I’m right here, Partner. You won’t be alone.
“Take over for me.”
Yami’s hands slipped to his shoulders. You’ll be fine, Partner.
“I’m serious, Other Me. I’m way too nervous.” Yugi’s pulse was running a mile a minute.
Guilt crossed Yami’s features. Did I pressure you into this?
“No, you didn’t! It’s okay.” Yugi exhaled, sending a soothing pulse of reassurance. It wasn’t Yami’s fault that he was socially inept. “Just take over for me, alright? Just for a bit.” There was another round of knocking at the front door. Yugi’s stomach flipped nauseatingly. “Please?”
Yami leaned forward and kissed his forehead. The anxious breath trapped in Yugi’s lungs left him in a rush.
Of course.
When Yami answered the door, Atem’s fist was hovering in midair, preparing to knock again. Atem blinked in surprise, eyes shifting over the contours of his face. Yami leaned a shoulder against the doorway, a confident smile on his lips.
Yugi levitated behind him, already far more relaxed now that he was invisible. Like this, he could take his time to appreciate Atem: he wore loose pants that fell to his ankles, a silky violet shirt, and Yugi couldn’t be totally sure, but it looked like Atem had reapplied his eyeliner before coming here.
He was absolutely gorgeous. Yami seemed to think so, too. Their shared heart skipped a beat.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” Yami said smoothly, beckoning him inside. “I was just setting things up.”
“Oh, it’s no problem,” Atem replied.
He swept past Yami to stand in the centre of the shop, eying the various games and puzzles on the shelves. He approached one of the board games, picking it up so he could read the mechanics. Yami watched him quietly, hands clasped behind his back.
Atem returned the game to its designated spot. “There are so few game shops like this. It’s almost…old school.” He beamed at Yami. “I love it.”
Yugi smiled, feeling a sense of pride for his family’s work. If this were a test, Atem had easily passed.
“I’m glad you think so,” Yami said with an approving nod. He headed for the hallway then, gesturing with his fingers. “Come this way.”
Atem dutifully followed him. “I should mention that I don’t actually own a Duel Monsters deck,” Atem said sheepishly. “Do you have one I can borrow?”
Yugi and Yami shared a grin.
“Don’t worry,” Yami said. “I have quite a few to spare.”
Yugi was utterly captivated by the scene before him.
Yami and Atem were each other’s mirror image in so many ways, from their appearance to their voices and right down to their mannerisms. Watching them interact was entirely surreal.
“I take it I lose again.”
Yami grinned. “So it would seem.”
All three men sat on the floor with a low table between them. As they duelled, Yugi noted the casual brush of hands when exchanging cards, the weighted pauses when their eyes met.
Atem leaned in closer to get a better look at Yami’s side of the field. Beneath Yami’s intense gaze, Atem tucked his bangs coyly behind his ears. He glanced up at Yami through his lashes, a smile tugging at his lips.
“While I appreciate that you aren’t taking it easy on me,” Atem said, “I would be grateful for a little restraint.”
“My apologies,” Yami said with a laugh. “For what it’s worth, you’re a very fast learner; more skilled than many of the opponents I’ve faced.”
Yugi smiled fondly at his other self. It was remarkable to see Yami so interested in another person. He had only ever gotten close with Yugi, content to keep their friends at arm’s length, yet he was speaking to Atem so easily.
And Yugi felt not a hint of jealousy. No, seeing Yami enjoy the company of another was remarkably fulfilling.
“That’s kind of you to say, but…” Atem chuckled. “Well, at least I still have Magic.”
“We can play that instead, if you wish,” Yami said.
Atem shook his head, earrings jingling with the movement. Yugi inhaled when Atem reached forward, his hand coming to rest over Yami’s.
“I have another idea,” Atem said softly, his eyes falling to half-mast. “If you’re amenable.”
Through their shared connection, Yugi could feel Yami’s attraction; the slow, steady burn of lust in his veins. Yami leaned forward, bringing their faces mere inches from one another.
“What did you have in mind?” Yami purred.
Atem’s smile turned shy. He dragged his hand up the length of Yami’s arm, coming to rest beneath his jaw. “I…” He drew his thumb along Yami’s cheek. “Can I kiss you, Yugi?”
Yami leaned into his hand, eyes falling closed. He hadn’t known the physical touch of another in thousands of years — nothing more substantial than a handshake or a pat on the back. Pure contentment drifted sweetly through their connection.
A moment later, Yami said, We should switch.
Yugi blinked. Wait, what?
He wants to kiss you, Yami said, even as he continued to lean into Atem’s caress.
Wh—he wants to kiss you, Other Me! Yugi said indignantly. What are you talking about?
Yami’s eyes fluttered open. He reached for Atem, resting his hand along the curve of his neck. He thinks I’m you, Partner. Atem’s gaze softened beneath his touch. And you’ve never kissed anyone else. I won’t take this from you.
Yugi narrowed his eyes in determination. I want you to kiss him, Other Me.
Yami’s gaze shifted minutely in Yugi’s direction. Partner…
With an earnest smile, Yugi flooded their connection with love; to remind Yami of the trust shared between them. Yami inhaled sharply, caught by surprise.
His gaze snapped back to Atem. His eyes were kind, patient.
Please, Yugi said. For me.
Those words must have triggered something in Yami, because he surged forward then, sealing their lips together.
The meeting of their mouths was a wondrous thing. Yugi watched in awe as two beautiful men shared their first kiss, mutual sighs escaping their lips. Yami’s emotions rolled through Yugi in manic waves. He was alight with something so strong, so overwhelming, that Yugi thought he might burn to ash.
Yami drew back long enough to climb over the coffee table, their cards spilling onto the floor in his haste. His hands sought out Atem’s shoulders as he pushed him back against the couch, allowing him to crawl into his lap. Atem groaned at the grind of their hips, the sound swallowed by Yami’s demanding mouth.
Partner, are you watching? Yami asked. Yugi’s mind grinded to a halt. Does this please you?
It was a good thing that Yugi wasn’t currently in control of their body, because steam probably would have shot out of his ears.
This is… Yugi whimpered when Atem slipped his tongue into his mouth. Yami tilted their heads, offering Yugi a better view of the heated slide of their lips. You have no idea what this is doing to me.
I have some idea, Yami chuckled, but before he could say anything else, Atem was sliding his hands beneath Yami’s shirt. He shuddered beneath Atem’s frantic touch, then broke off with a loud moan when his fingers found his nipples.
Atem smiled wolfishly. “Do you like that or something?”
Yami keened, arching into him. Atem hiked up his shirt and pushed the Puzzle aside, allowing him to plant kisses along his chest. When his mouth finally found one of his nipples, Yami had to clamp a hand to his mouth to keep from shouting.
You’re in trouble now, Other Me, Yugi hummed.
Yami grabbed hold of Atem’s hair. His fingers wound tightly into his tresses, pulling. Atem growled, and the sound sent a shiver through the centre of Yugi’s soul.
“W—wait,” Yami murmured, clawing at Atem. “They’re sensitive—”
Atem pulled off with a wet smack. “Well then.” He quirked a brow. “How about I blow you instead?”
Yami’s eyes bulged. He swallowed audibly. “C—Can I…?”
When Atem gave him a sweetly confused look, Yugi realised that Yami meant to ask him that. He was gazing in Yugi’s direction hopefully.
Yugi, meanwhile, had never been so onboard with an idea in his life. He nodded enthusiastically.
Yami returned his attention to Atem. “Yes.”
Atem’s grin widened as he adjusted their positions, guiding Yami onto his back on the floor. He stripped off his jeans, flinging them aside and leaving Yami completely exposed. He ran his hands along Yami’s thighs, squeezing lean muscle.
As Atem descended on him, Yugi’s entire soul was ablaze. He watched breathlessly as Yami moaned and squirmed beneath Atem’s talented mouth. He held Yami’s pelvis in place as he lavished his cock, tonguing the underside with every bob of his head. When Yami’s voice pitched higher, Atem added his hand to the shaft, working it mercilessly.
Partner… Yugi met Yami’s pleading stare, his mouth hanging open. His eyes were dazed with pleasure. Please…
Yugi knew what he needed. He was by his side then, placing a chaste kiss to his forehead. As Atem continued to drive him closer and closer to the edge, Yugi nuzzled into Yami’s neck, teasing him with open-mouthed kisses.
You’re amazing, Other Me, Yugi told him. Yami tossed his head back, eyes squeezing shut. You’re doing so well.
He whimpered helplessly. Atem hollowed out his cheeks, sucking harder. Yami’s mind was nothing but a jumbled mess.
Come for him, Other Me, Yugi said, licking a stripe across his clavicle. Come for us both.
Yami smacked the floor with his fists as he came, bucking deeper into his mouth. Atem groaned around his cock, steadying his hips with one hand and jerking him with the other. Yugi watched, mesmerised, as Yami rode out his pleasure with wanton abandon.
When Yami settled against the floor once again, Yugi swallowed roughly. That was…really hot.
Yami huffed with quiet laughter. He sat up slowly, running a hand through his untamed hair. Atem’s skin was flushed all the way down his neck, disappearing beneath his shirt. His breaths were rapid, his eyes as dark as night.
“Why are you still dressed?” Yami teased.
Atem needed no further encouragement. He pulled his shirt over his head so quickly the garment nearly ripped. Yami shifted onto his knees and helped him out of his pants, dragging them efficiently over muscled thighs.
Yugi took a long, lingering moment to appreciate Atem’s size.
Yami slid back into Atem’s lap, smirking when Atem moaned from the pressure against his erection. Yami wet his lips and kissed him soundly, tasting himself on Atem’s tongue. Their hands explored the curves of each other’s bare bodies.
The image would be burned forever into Yugi’s brain.
Eventually, Atem drew back just enough to press a finger to Yami’s lips. He took a moment to master his breathing. Yami grazed his teeth lightly over his finger, which was certainly not helping matters.
“Can I ask you something?” Atem murmured, gazing into Yami’s eyes.
“I suppose so,” Yami said, his eyes twinkling with mirth.
Atem released a breath. He asked, “Where is the Other Yugi?”
Both Yugi and Yami’s minds short-circuited. They stared at him in silent shock.
The finger against Yami’s lips withdrew. Atem cupped his cheek instead. “There is another you, right?” His other hand, presently resting on Yami’s hip, slid to the Puzzle’s chain around his neck.
“I don’t understand,” Yami whispered. “How could you…?”
“The Yugi who asked me here tonight is not the same one in front of me now.” Both hands came to cup the sides of Yami’s face, smoothing reassurance into his skin. “Which is not a complaint, by the way. I quite like this one.”
The surprise started to fade from Yugi’s heart. He gazed at Atem over Yami’s shoulder, completely captivated.
“Does the Other Yugi want to come out?” Atem asked.
Partner?
Hesitation kept Yugi paralysed for a long moment. I…okay. Yeah, okay.
The Puzzle flashed as Yugi slipped back into his body, gasping at the rush of sensations. His muscles were loose from Yami’s recent orgasm and his lips tingled from such feverish kisses. Atem’s body was hot against him, but his erection had softened slightly from their conversation.
“There you are,” Atem said warmly. “Why so shy?”
“I—um.” Yugi mentally kicked himself. Now that he was back in control, he had no idea what to do next. “Sorry.”
“Don’t apologise.” His thumb caressed Yugi’s flushed cheek. “Can I kiss you?”
Yugi felt Yami’s phantom hands on his bare shoulders then, followed by a kiss to the top of his head. Between the two of them, Yugi had never felt so secure, so wonderfully tended to.
Breathlessly, Yugi said, “Yeah.”
And then he leaned in, their lips meeting in the middle.
Yugi was awed by the sudden onslaught to his senses. When he kissed Yami, it was a slow and steady burn; an eclipse of two souls that warmed the entirety of his heart.
But when he kissed Atem, it consumed him like a wildfire. He was helpless against the flames, succumbing completely to the inferno.
Yugi threaded desperate fingers into Atem’s hair. Atem hummed against his mouth, keeping one hand on Yugi’s jaw while the other travelled to his lower back, bringing their bodies flush together. Yugi rocked into him with a languid roll of his hips. Atem’s erection was thickening again, pressing hard against the crease of Yugi’s thigh.
Atem nipped his lower lip. “Do you want me inside you, Yugi?”
A rush of adrenaline flooded through him, amplified by Yami’s mounting excitement. Yugi exhaled shakily.
“Yeah, but…it’s my first time.” He glanced away, suddenly too anxious to meet his eyes. “I haven’t done anything before, really.” Intimacy with his other self was another thing entirely. “I’m kinda out of my depth here.”
Atem smiled affectionately. “That’s alright. We don’t have to go that far. How about—?”
“Oh, no, we’re going that far,” Yugi interrupted. “I may be new to this, but you can definitely have your way with me.”
Atem stared at him, his eyes like saucers. Yugi’s face was a vibrant shade of red. Behind him, Yami nuzzled into his neck, hands resting on Yugi’s hips. It was the only thing keeping him grounded.
“I mean…” Atem‘s gaze darkened. “If you’re sure.”
“Yeah.” Yugi gulped. “I have…stuff. Upstairs. Uh—”
“No need.” Atem tugged his discarded pants closer, fishing through one of the pockets. He pulled out a condom and a small packet of lube.
“Well, I’m glad someone’s prepared,” Yugi said with a light, nervous laugh.
He had talked a big game, but now faced with the reality of the situation, anxiety fluttered in Yugi’s chest. Atem seemed to recognise Yugi’s trepidation. He dragged one of Yugi’s hands to his lips, kissing his knuckles.
“I’ll be gentle,” he assured him.
For several blissful minutes — or hours, possibly — Yugi found himself on his back, one leg propped up on Atem’s shoulder. His eyes were squeezed shut as Atem worked fingers carefully inside him. He started off with one, then two, murmuring encouragement all the while.
How does it feel, Partner? Yami asked, kissing his brow.
It took a long moment for Yugi to answer.
So…good…
He glanced at Yami who lay beside him, propped up on his elbow. He was smirking down at him.
You’re enjoying yourself, aren’t you? Yugi huffed.
Yami kissed him again. Like you wouldn’t believe.
Eventually, Atem withdrew his fingers. Yugi whined from the emptiness inside him, his leg slipping from Atem’s shoulder. He caught the sound of a condom packet being torn open. Yugi’s heart lodged into his throat.
Suddenly, Atem was lowering his mouth to Yugi’s cock, which was slowly but surely hardening again. Yugi gasped when his lips pressed against the head, a tiny bit of precome wiped away by his sinful tongue.
“How do you want me?” Atem murmured.
Yugi’s insides clenched. “I…I’d like to face you.” He pushed up onto his elbows, meeting Atem’s eyes. “Sit up.”
Atem had shown incredible restraint thus far, but Yugi could see he was exceptionally eager now. At his direction, Atem scrambled backwards to lean against the couch. Yugi went to him in an instant, straddling his hips even as his stomach churned nervously.
Yami sidled up behind him, his stomach pressed to Yugi’s back. His hands found Yugi’s waist as Atem’s fingers curled over his hips. Together, they held him steady.
Yugi sank down on Atem’s cock, taking him slowly into his body. The intrusion was strange at first, but after such thorough preparation, it didn’t take long to relax into the stretch. Once fully seated, Yugi released a shuddering exhale, tilting his head to allow Yami to lay kisses upon his neck. Atem’s eyes were half-lidded, his hips twitching minutely.
“I…don’t know how long I’ll last,” he whispered.
Yugi ran a thumb along Atem’s bottom lip. “How does it feel?” he asked, echoing Yami’s question.
Atem curved back against the couch, exposing his throat. There was a sheen of sweat on his sculpted chest.
“Divine,” he answered.
They moved in unison then, Yugi lifting up as Atem flexed his hips. Yugi impaled himself to meet his thrust, the breath forced out of his lungs. Atem groaned helplessly, his grip tightening on Yugi’s hips. Yami moved with them, his hand flat against Yugi’s stomach. They rose and fell in perfect harmony, sending pleasurable sparks throughout Yugi’s body.
With Atem inside him, with Yami around him, he had surely found his sanctuary. He couldn’t fathom how three people could fit together so flawlessly; how the universe had permitted them to share in this bliss.
The drag of Atem’s cock rocked the foundations of Yugi’s core. He arched into Yami’s arms, seeking out his reassuring warmth. Yami mouthed at his neck and slid a hand to Yugi’s arousal. Yugi whimpered as he joined him, their hands blending together in a unified grip.
“Yugi.” Atem’s voice was devastating in its desperation. “I won’t last much longer—ahh— ”
Yugi hissed as he began to jerk himself in earnest, his fingers brushing against Atem’s torso. “Th—that’s okay. I’m…almost there.”
Apparently, Atem was inspired by Yugi’s admission. He changed tactics then, grabbing hold of Yugi’s waist. He used all his strength to push him down hard, the glorious burn enough to make Yugi’s eyes roll. Atem took complete control then, picking up speed.
The pleasure was almost blinding. His eyes pricked with tears. He dove forward, crushing their mouths together in a hungry kiss. Yugi moaned with each thrust, his voice pitching higher and higher.
He felt Yami’s mouth against his ear. With a voice as rough as gravel, he said, I love watching you fall apart.
It was all too much. Yugi began to lose his rhythm so Atem quickly took over, wrapping his hand around his shaft. He pumped Yugi ruthlessly, their kisses turning messier.
Yugi shuddered when Yami spoke again.
Say his name, my love.
“Atem,” Yugi gasped. His name felt right on his lips. “Atem. Ah—Atem!”
His answering moan sent Yugi careening over the edge, his ecstasy firing all over Atem’s chest. Yugi did not break their kiss, allowing Atem to swallow up each and every groan.
As his orgasm tore through his body, Yugi clenched down on Atem’s arousal. Atem broke away and shouted, “Y—yes, Yugi—!”
Finally, he was overcome, his hips driving into him with such ferocity that Yugi almost became unseated. They rode out their pleasure together, clinging and kissing until the shockwaves eventually passed.
Yugi hummed happily as his eyes fell closed. He rested his forehead against Atem’s shoulder, content to stay close for a while longer. He sighed when he felt Yami’s arms curl around him as well, a phantom kiss landing on his shoulder. A moment later, Atem’s lips found the very same spot.
Soon enough, all three of them laid on the floor with Yugi sandwiched in-between. Yami curled flush against Yugi’s back, one arm tossed over his waist. Atem was on his side, head propped up on one hand. He regarded Yugi through dark eyes, his skin flushed from exertion.
“I have a thought.”
Yugi almost laughed. “Okay. What is it?”
“We order something for dinner, and then do that again.”
Yami chuckled, the sound rumbling against Yugi’s back. Yugi grinned and said, “Sounds good to me.”
Atem’s eyes twinkled with mischief, but then they softened into something else. “And…if you’re free, I’d like to treat you to breakfast tomorrow.” He paused thoughtfully. “The both of you.”
Yami stilled behind him. Yugi’s cheeks turned rosy with delight.
I’d like that, Yugi said. And you, Other Me?
A pulse of joy echoed between them. I’d love to.
Atem waited, his eyes alight with hope. Yugi offered him a brilliant smile.
“It’s a date.”
