Work Text:

“Cole, I’m scared.”

Genji could be identified utilizing various words. He was often associated with words such as playful, headstrong, and undeniably brave, but scared was not one of them.

Cole could understand why Genji was scared. His stomach was now swollen to the point where it was noticeable in the clothes he would wear. He didn’t fear the way his body looked, not when Cole was constantly kissing his stomach and telling him how pregnancy made him glow.

Rather, Genji feared telling Hanzo and Kiriko.

Hanzo and Kiriko were going to arrive at any minute, both eager and curious to discover what Genji’s big news was. Genji would make bets that Hanzo and Kiriko were expecting him to invite them into Overwatch over him disclosing that he was pregnant with Cole’s pup.

Genji wasn’t worried about Kiriko’s reaction, as he knew she would support him no matter what. Something he always loved about Kiriko was that she would always be there for him. If he wanted to change careers and become a clown then she would help him audition at circuses. If he needed help burying a body she would be there with a shovel and a location in mind.

Genji was afraid of how Hanzo would react, especially if he found out that he and Cole hadn’t exactly planned this child. Hanzo was incredibly protective of him and as much as Genji loved that about him, he really needed the alpha to be on his side and supporting him through this.

“I get why you’re scared, darlin’, I really do.” Cole snaked his arms around him from behind, his hands holding his swollen belly. “But if they’re really our family then they’re gonna be happy for us, right?”

“…right.”

“You ain’t sound sure about that.” Cole commented.

“I worry what my anija will do when he finds out. It’s not like we thoroughly discussed having a pup before this happened.” Genji sighed, melting into Cole’s embrace, and wishing he could disappear into the alpha.

“Hanzo ain’t gonna do nothin’.” Cole chuckled, rolling his eyes. “He especially won’t do nothin’ to you, angel.”

“It is you I am worried about.”

“Me? What are you worrin’ about me for, sweetheart?” Cole asked, his brow furrowed in confusion. “You’re the one who’s pregnant.”

“Yes, but you are the one who knocked me up.” Genji reached a hand back and smacked Cole’s arm with a devilish smile.

Cole barked a laugh, “You weren’t complainin’ about me knockin’ you up when it was actually happenin’!”

“I was in heat!” Genji removed himself from Cole and placed his hands on his hips. “All I was concerned about was you filling me up with your knot!”

“Do you regret it, sugar?”

That question caught Genji off guard. He raised his eyebrows at the alpha, who mimicked him and motioned with his hand for him to answer the question.

“No, I do not regret it at all.” Genji rested his hands on his stomach, smiling fondly. “I have always wanted to carry my mate’s pups ever since I presented as an omega.”

“It makes me happier than a tick on a dog to see you carryin’ my pup.” Cole walked over to Genji and gently cradled his face. He planted a chaste kiss to his forehead, savoring the sound of Genji humming.

Cole and Genji were brought out of their moment when they heard the sound of a plane coming in. Cole held Genji close to his chest when the wind picked up as the plane landed.

Genji smiled when Cole leaned into his neck and began scenting him, nosing and lapping at his scent gland. He appreciated how Cole was trying to ease his nerves with his sweet whiskey scent.

“You ready for this, sweet thing?”

“I am as ready as I will ever be, I suppose.” Genji replied, lacking the usual confidence in his words.

Cole and Genji broke apart and waited for Hanzo and Kiriko to exit the plane. They smiled at the sight of Kiriko shoving her suitcases at Hanzo to carry in favor of running to the duo. Sensing that Kiriko was about to launch herself at Genji, Cole stepped in the way and intercepted her strong embrace.

Kiriko swatted Cole’s back and laughed, “I was trying to hug Genji first! Are you jealous or something, cowboy?”

“Somethin’ like that.” Cole returned with a grin.

Genji placed a small hand on Cole’s back, a silent way of thanking him for taking her embrace so she wouldn’t crash into his stomach. Genji didn’t know how much that simple gesture made Cole’s inner alpha purr at receiving praise from his mate.

Kiriko was released from Cole’s grasp just in time for Hanzo to make his way over to them. He dropped his and Kiriko’s luggage on the ground and made sure to glare at the beta for making him do all the heavy lifting. Kiriko didn’t seem to give a damn, not that Hanzo was expecting her to.

“It’s been too long, Genji.” Kiriko was smiling brightly as she took Genji into her arms, not knowing that this was something he was nervous about.

Kiriko made a confused noise before asking, “Genji, how come you smell different?”

“What do you mean?” Genji gulped, trying his best to keep his composure.

“I don’t know, you just smell different.” She pulled away and looked down at Genji’s stomach.

She could feel in their embrace how it was larger than she remembered. She found it odd how he has gained weight, considering he was supposed to be going on missions with Blackwatch.

She joked, “Not as easy to get my arms around you this time, huh?”

Genji knew she was just playing around but he couldn’t keep back the tears that threatened to pour down his face. This Genji wasn’t like the one she remembered months ago. This Genji could cry at the drop of a hat if someone hurt his feelings or showed him a cute video.

Immediately noticing the tears in Genji’s eyes, Kiriko began scrambling, “Oh! Genji, I didn’t mean anything by it! I was just joking around with you, you know that, right?”

“Kiriko, you know that Genji is sensitive.” Hanzo smiled, attempting to salvage the moment.

Hanzo made a valiant effort to save Kiriko and keep the mood light, but it was in vain because Genji was now crying at the thought that his family believed he was both overweight and sensitive.

“Oh, now look what you two did!” Cole rolled his eyes at the duo and brought Genji into his arms. “Couldn’t have just said how you been or you look good. No, you two had to make comments!”

“We didn’t mean to-“

“To what? Didn’t mean to hurt his feelings?” Cole scoffed. “Well, you two failed at that!”

“Genji is normally not this emotional. Has something happened in our absence?” Hanzo questioned.

The elder Shimada wished he could bring Genji into his arms and apologize but he knew better than to touch a crying omega in their mate’s embrace.

“Thought you two would’ve figured it out by now. Some ninjas you are.” Cole huffed.

“Figured what out-“

Hanzo and Kiriko’s eyes widened as they finally put all the puzzle pieces together. Genji’s stomach was big and round, his emotions were on the fritz, and his scent was different. Everything finally clicked for them and they had only wished they came to this realization earlier.

“Genji… otouto.” Hanzo waited for Genji to poke his head out of Cole’s strong chest. He asked softly, “Are you pregnant?”

Genji slowly nodded.

“Holy shit! No way!” Kiriko was jumping up and down in excitement. She grabbed Hanzo’s arm and began shaking him, squealing, “My best friend is pregnant! He’s gonna have a pup, Hanzo!”

Hanzo growled at Kiriko, who quickly let go of him in favor of rushing back to Genji. She shoved Cole off her friend and dropped to her knees. She looked at Genji, asking a silent question, to which he nodded.

She was beaming as she placed her hands on his stomach, nearly crying at the thought of life growing within her best friend. She knew how much Genji wanted to carry a pup for his mate one day. Ever since he had presented as an omega he had wanted this, and she was elated that his moment had finally come.

“You’re glowing, Genji.” She smiled, a stray tear falling down her face. “You deserve this.”

Kiriko knew to remove herself from Genji when Hanzo approached. Genji stared up at his brother with wide doe eyes, half expecting to be reprimanded for not calling him and telling him he was pregnant as soon as he knew.

“How far along are you?” Hanzo asked, his eyes flickering from Genji’s stomach back to his coffee brown orbs.

“Four months.”

“Four months.” Hanzo mused, a warm smile beginning to etch itself onto his face. “Does this mean you know the gender of the baby?”

Genji replied, finally smiling, “Captain Amari and the doctors are the only ones who know the gender.”

“Out of everyone in our family, you were always the one who liked surprises.” Hanzo chuckled.

“You can touch my stomach if you want to, anija.” Genji answered the question that Hanzo’s curious eyes were asking.

“I… okay.”

Hanzo’s hands were shaking as he stretched them out and touched Genji’s stomach. He released a sigh he didn’t even know he was holding. He relished in the thought of his beautiful little brother creating a new life. Hanzo agreed with Kiriko whole heartedly, Genji truly deserved this.

“How come you did not tell me sooner, otouto?” Hanzo asked as he rubbed soothing circles on Genji’s swollen belly.

Genji looked to Cole to answer but neither of them could say a word because Kiriko had stepped to the cowboy and slapped him on the back, nearly making him tumble forward.

“Wait a second! We’ve gotta congratulate the cowboy over here, too!” Kiriko snickered. “After all, he’s the one who knocked our Genji up!”

Cole puffed out his chest and grinned, “Well, thank you kindly! I wasn’t exactly tryin’ to put a pup in Genji when it happened but, damn, if I ain’t happy I did!”

Hanzo’s movements on Genji’s stomach stopped and Kiriko’s eyes widened. Genji swallowed thickly, his eyes glancing at Cole and silently telling him to stop fucking talking. Cole didn’t take the hint and continued rambling on about how Genji’s pregnancy caught him and Blackwatch by surprise.

Genji loved Cole deeply, he really did, but sometimes he wanted to rip his cowboy hat off his head and shove it into his mouth because when his alpha rambled, he rambled.

The worst part was that Cole was oblivious to what he had let slip. He didn’t even realize that he had basically told Hanzo and Kiriko that they didn’t plan to have a baby.

With a soft pat to Genji’s stomach, Hanzo turned to the cowboy and punched him in the face. Cole shook his head and rubbed at his cheek to try to numb the pain, and that’s when he saw a raging Hanzo being held back by Kiriko.

“Now, why the hell did you go on and hit me like that, Hanzo?” Cole narrowed his eyes at the elder Shimada. “Ain’t no reason for none of that! Damn, ain’t you meaner than a junkyard dog!”

“I had no reason to hit you like that?” Hanzo snarled like an animal. “You are lucky that I didn’t shoot an arrow into your eye for getting my little brother pregnant!”

“I thought you were happy he’s pregnant!”

“I was until you said this child was unexpected!” Hanzo thrashed around in Kiriko’s grasp, surprised that she could withhold him.

“Unexpected or not we’ve decided to have this baby.” Cole growled, standing his ground against the furious alpha.

Kiriko whispered something to Hanzo in Japanese that managed to calm the alpha. She still held onto him but Genji and Cole could see that her grip has loosened, as if she trusted him to behave.

With Genji finding his spot at Cole’s side, the alpha sighed, “This is what we want and we’d be mighty thankful if you could support us on this journey.”

“You have my support.” Hanzo sighed, shaking his head. “I just wish you had taken better care of my little brother.”

Cole hung his head in defeat. He could understand why Hanzo was upset with him and why he punched him. He had vowed to take care of Genji and while he had done that for the past few years, he hadn’t planned out the pregnancy so that both of them would be fully prepared for the journey ahead of them.

Sometimes, Cole wished he had been more careful and taken better precautions to make sure something like this couldn’t happen. Sometimes, he wished he wasn’t so blinded by lust to ensure that Genji wouldn’t run the risk of getting pregnant during his heat.

Yet, when it came down to it Cole wouldn’t have changed a thing because both he and Genji wanted this, they wanted a pup. They knew they should’ve planned this out better but they both agreed that sometimes the best things in life come unexpectedly like their little bundle of joy growing within Genji.

Anija, please do not be so hard on Cole.” Genji made his way over to Hanzo and gently held his face in his small hands. “He has taken such good care of me and has been a great help to me during my pregnancy so far.”

Kiriko smiled and let go of Hanzo, trusting him not to go on a rampage, especially when a pregnant omega was in front of him. She watched with eagle eyes as Hanzo rested his hands back onto Genji’s stomach.

“All I have ever wanted was for you to be happy.” Hanzo murmured, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.

“I am happy, anija.”

“Very well, then I will try to be nicer to your cow man.” Hanzo stated, sending a quick glare to Cole.

Genji gasped when Hanzo sunk to his knees. Hanzo lifted his brother’s shirt up and placed a soft kiss to his stomach, to his unborn pup. Genji felt something wet rolling down his cheeks and that’s when he realized that he was crying again.

Hanzo gazed up and his little brother and sent him a smile that made the sun pale in comparison. Genji brought a hand to his brother’s face, tracing the lines that made one of his favorite smiles.

“And I will be here to take care of you, otouto.”

True to Hanzo’s word, he remained at the base to help take care of Genji. What was even better was that Kiriko had stayed, as well.

Hanzo and Kiriko learned early on that Genji’s pregnancy was a complicated one. They quickly discovered that Genji’s body didn’t handle stress well while he was pregnant so they would constantly go out of their way to make sure their beloved omega had nothing to worry about.

Sometimes, making sure that Genji didn’t feel stressed meant that Hanzo growled and threatened to annihilate any agent that stared at his little brother or his swollen stomach for too long. Sometimes, it meant that Kiriko would break various motor vehicle laws on her way to the grocery store to ensure that Genji got the pickles he was craving.

It brought Genji boundless joy to have Hanzo and Kiriko both at the base and going on missions with Cole. While they had not officially joined Overwatch, they helped out on missions as a way of earning their keep at the base.

It was when Genji hit the six month mark of his pregnancy that he had another stressful time. Genji should’ve figured that his own family would be the cause of his stress, too.

Genji knew he shouldn’t have been eavesdropping on Hanzo’s call, but when he heard the alpha speaking in Japanese he knew it was because he was talking to their family, more specifically their father.

Genji could only hear Hanzo’s side of the conversation, but from what he caught it wasn’t good. It seemed like Sojiro was angry that Hanzo had taken two months off from running the family business to tend to Genji.

Sojiro had no idea that Genji was pregnant, not that it would’ve changed how he was acting if he knew. In Sojiro’s eyes, Genji was wasting both Hanzo’s time and his potential by having him stay at the base for so long.

Genji hadn’t meant to keep Hanzo with him for so long. He had actually begged his brother at one point to return to Japan to keep up appearances and to maintain order in the Shimada clan, but Hanzo always refused for the same reason.

Genji was his priority.

Hanzo didn’t give a damn if he shirked on his clan work or if his father was pissed at him because the only thing he cared about was Genji. He would make sure Genji was well looked after and had the baby safely before he even considered going back home to resume his duties.

From what Genji could tell, Sojiro was essentially forcing Hanzo to choose:  his duties to the clan or his worthless omega brother.

Genji didn’t want to put his brother in the middle, nor did he want to make him choose between the clan and himself, so he made Hanzo’s choice for him.

“Go home, anija.”

“Genji-“

“You still have a purpose in this life.” Tears were welling in Genji’s eyes as he cried, “I cannot ask you to put your life on hold for me so, please, return to the clan and fulfill your duty.”

Genji winced when he could actually hear his father on the other line agreeing with him. He could hear Sojiro agreeing that Hanzo had nothing going for him the more he remained with Genji, and if he ever wanted to hold the respect of their elders then he would return to Japan.

Genji hadn’t spoken to his father in years and he remembered now why that was. Sojiro was still the same old heartless alpha who saw him as nothing more than an unavoidable irritation. Even after years, Sojiro still saw Genji as a burden, and that hurt him more than he would’ve liked it to.

“Genji, wait!”

The omega tried his best to run away from his brother, and more importantly from their father. He didn’t want to be reminded of what a failure he was all because he presented as an omega.

Genji’s feet could only carry him so far before the pain in his stomach became unbearable. He collapsed to his knees, cradling his stomach in his arms to make sure the unborn pup was protected and secure.

Genji knew that his scent was wafting through the air and screaming omega in distress, but he didn’t care. In fact, he was hoping Cole or one of their friends would get a whiff of his scent and come running to him.

It worked.

Genji was whimpering in both sadness and pain when a pair of gentle yet strong arms brought him back to his feet. He sniffed, a weak smile gracing his features when he caught the familiar, and surprisingly calming, scent of peppermint.

“Captain…”

“There, there, Genji.” Ana hushed the whining omega as she guided him down the halls to her den. “I’ve got you now, tifl litifi.*

As soon as Genji was brought into Ana’s private quarters, he began collecting her clothes and building a nest on her bed. Ana knew better than to get involved when an omega was creating a nest, especially one that was both pregnant and distressed, so she stood patiently by the door.

She watched with a sad smile on her face as Genji began building his nest out of her softest blankets and clothes that he had told her were his favorite on her. Her heart was aching when she heard him whimpering from his nest, as if her scent wasn’t enough to make him feel protected and calm.

She knew exactly what he needed and Genji was surprised she had what he was searching for in his current state. She walked over to her closet and reached for a box she had stored on the top shelf. She smiled down at the box as she opened it.

“Is this what you need, Genji?” She asked, holding up one of Cole’s serapes.

Genji’s eyes widened and his movements stopped, focusing on the serape. It was one of the rare red ones that Cole had, and one that the alpha had been searching for a while ago. Genji didn’t give a damn about why Ana had it because she was right, it was exactly what he needed right now.

Genji needed something that both belonged to Cole and smelled like him. While most of the nest consisted of the fresh scent of peppermint, he still needed a touch of whiskey, a dash of Cole.

“Here you go, tifl litifi. It’s all yours.” She slowly approached the nest and held it out for Genji to take, which he did without hesitation.

Ana remained by the bed and peered down at the omega, who had finally gotten comfortable laying on his side in his nest. She felt her heart swelling at the sight of Genji in a nest of her clothes and belongings while on his side hugging Cole’s serape.

She felt honored that Genji would deem her and her scent to be comforting to the point where he would make a nest of everything. She could only hope that Cole’s inner alpha wouldn’t be too displeased with his omega drowning in another alpha’s scent.

She waited until Genji’s sobbing subsided and his breathing evened out to move closer to the omega’s nest. She knew how important an omega’s nest was, seeing as how it was made during their heats or in times of distress. An omega’s nest was something to be cherished and she wanted to make sure she wasn’t overstepping.

“May I enter your nest, Genji?” She asked softly, making sure the omega knew that he could deny her access if he desired to do so.

“Come in, captain.”

Ana nodded in thanks before carefully crawling into Genji’s nest. She rested on her knees and smiled when Genji moved towards her. Her heart swelled in her chest at the sight of Genji resting his head on her legs, still holding the serape in his arms but needing her just as much.

“You did a beautiful job on this nest.” She complimented, knowing full well how much an alpha’s praise on an omega’s nest meant.

“Thank you, captain.” Genji beamed at the praise, his scent slowly returning to a sweet cotton candy.

Ana moved her hand to Genji’s head, combing through the raven locks to further relax the omega. She quietly began humming a song from her childhood, one she knew that Genji wouldn’t know but he would appreciate.

She didn’t know how long she remained there with Genji, but it was long enough for her to lull him to sleep. Carefully, always carefully when it came to Genji, she maneuvered him so that his head was laying upon one of her favorite pillows.

She could smell a few different scents outside her door and she didn’t want them to get strong enough to where Genji would be roused from his slumber. She knew who was out there, and while she could understand why they were there she wanted them to control their scents as to not disturb Genji after she had spent so long calming him down.

“You boys better have a good explanation why your scents are so strong.” She reprimanded Cole and Hanzo as soon as the door to her room was shut.

“My apologies, ma’am, but I smelt Genji in distress a while back and I followed his scent back to your room.” Cole answered, worry present in his eyes. “But I smelt you in there with him so I ain’t want to interrupt or nothin’ if you were helpin’ him so I-”

“Enough of your rambling, Cassidy.” She interrupted with a shake of her head and a wave of her hand. “I understand why you’re here. You’re his mate and if you weren’t here then I’d be disappointed because I raised you to be better than that.”

“But-"

“Enough, Cassidy.” Her voice was gentle yet stern, and ultimately successful in silencing Cole. Her eyes locked onto Hanzo. “You smell nervous. Do you have something to do with why my Genji was upset?”

Ana had her answer when Hanzo averted his gaze, finding anything but her more interesting. She grit her teeth and willed herself to remain calm for Genji’s sake. She needed to have an understanding of the situation before she even considered letting Hanzo see Genji. The last thing she wanted was for him to have another episode and run the risk of going to the doctors because of the pain he was in.

Just like Hanzo, Genji was her priority.

“I don’t have the patience to be playing games with you right now, young man.” Ana folded her arms in front of her chest and leaned in close. “My Genji was on the ground, sobbing and in pain, and you’re going to explain why I found him like that.”

Ana growled, her inner alpha coming out, “Start explaining what happened before you find yourself being taken out on a mission, and not by our enemies.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Hanzo breathed a heavy sigh before clarifying, “I am part of the reason Genji was upset but it resides more so with our father than it does with me.”

“How so?”

“You are aware of how Genji came to be here due to an arranged marriage set in place by our father, are you not?” Hanzo questioned, making sure Ana was on the same page.

She nodded.

“But were you aware of why Genji was chosen instead of me?” He cocked an eyebrow.

“No, I was not made aware of that information.” She answered.

“Because he is an omega and to our father they are worthless and are only brought into this world to serve alphas.” Hanzo’s heart ached in his chest and he wondered if the other alphas could hear it. “Genji has not spoken to our father these past few years because of how he was treated.”

“Where are you going with this?”

“What I am trying to say is, I was on the phone with our father and Genji overheard some of our conversation.” Hanzo stated, the memory replaying in his mind and souring his cedarwood scent in the process.

“What did Sojiro say?” Ana hissed. “What did he say to make Genji distraught like that?”

Hanzo sounded pained as he replied, “He demanded that I return to Japan because he thinks my life would be better without Genji in it.”

“And your answer?” Ana demanded, wanting to know if she had to beat Hanzo’s ass after she was done with Sojiro.

Nani?”

“What did you say to Sojiro? Did you agree to go to Japan or did you refuse?” Ana pried, her peppermint scent nearly burning their noses at this point.

“I came here to tell Genji my answer, not you.” Hanzo returned, a dangerous edge to his voice that would’ve made omegas tremble.

Ana grabbed Hanzo by the front of his shirt, causing the alpha to gasp in surprise. Cole stood in between them and wondered if he should’ve stepped in or if he should make some popcorn and enjoy the show. To Cole, it was better that Hanzo was on the receiving end of Ana’s wrath than him.

“If Genji doesn’t leave my room with a smile on his face you can bet you’ll never step foot on this base again.” Hanzo opened his mouth to retort but Ana wasn’t done, “You’ll need prosthetics when I’m done with you, do you understand?”

Hanzo shut his mouth and nodded. Ana pushed Hanzo back, watching as he brushed himself off as if he was trying to remove any trace of her.

On the outside, Hanzo seemed to be unbothered. On the inside, Hanzo was like a dog with its tail shaking between its legs at the thought of her threatening to cut his feet off and leave him with prosthetics.

“Cassidy and I will be waiting out here. Don’t disappoint me, Hanzo.” She sent one last glare to Hanzo, one that he felt in his very soul.

Hanzo glanced at the alphas one last time before he entered the room. He shut the door behind him and his breath hitched at the sight before him.

He resisted the urge to coo at the sight of his little brother in a nest made of Ana’s clothes and any other belongings soft enough to make the cut. Genji was laying on his side, clutching one of Cole’s serapes like his life depended on it.

Hanzo made his way to the bed, wondering if he should gently shake Genji awake or if he should just enter the nest without asking. Hanzo knew better than to come into one of Genji’s nests without being granted permission, but he wanted to hold his little brother and to be the reason for his smile rather than his frown.

“Anija…?”

Hanzo’s eyes widened at the sight of Genji stirring awake. Genji was now staring at him, revealing those two cups of coffee that Hanzo called his eyes.

“Your nest is lovely, otouto. May I enter?” Hanzo asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“…okay.”

It wasn’t a confident yes but it was enough for Hanzo. He slithered into the nest, being mindful of where everything was placed so he wouldn’t ruin what Genji had taken the time to create. He settled behind Genji, spooning him and wrapping an arm around his swollen belly in a protective and possessive manner.

Hanzo felt himself breathing easier when Genji seemed to melt into him with a heavy sigh. Genji had one hand on Cole’s serape and the other was resting peacefully on top of Hanzo’s large hand. Hanzo was tempted to scent his brother but he decided against it, wanting Genji to request it if that was what he wanted.

“It has been a while since you held me like this, anija.” Genji hummed happily.

“It is hard for anyone to get this close to you with your cow man of an alpha being so protective of you.” Hanzo teased, earning a giggle from Genji.

“You act like you are not the same way!” Genji laughed. “Do not deny it!”

“Fine, I might act like that from time to time.” Hanzo admitted, though with great difficulty that earned another bout of laughter from his brother.

“You are insufferable, anija.”

“Perhaps I am.” Hanzo nuzzled his face in Genji’s raven locks. “But can you blame me when I have a pregnant little brother to keep safe?”

Genji sighed, “But for how much longer can I keep you here with me? Father is expecting you to return to Japan.”

“Father will expect disappointment because I am not going back.” Hanzo stated firmly.

“Anija!” Genji rolled over so he was face to face with his brother. “How could you do such a thing! Father wanted you to run the clan when he stepped down!”

Hanzo brought his hand to Genji’s face, rubbing his thumb back and forth on his cheek to try to keep him calm. It seemed to work, considering Genji seemed to lean into his touch like he wanted more.

“Father may have wanted me to run the clan one day, but that is not what I wanted.” Hanzo confessed.

“Then… what is it that you want?”

“Is it not obvious enough already, otouto?” Hanzo chuckled, leaning in so their foreheads were touching. “All I have ever wanted is you at my side.”

Anija…” Genji closed his eyes, tears slipping down his face and streaming over Hanzo’s fingers. “I cannot ask you to throw your life away for me.”

Hanzo looked into his brother’s teary eyes and smiled, “I do not see it like that, rather I will finally be living my life… and I owe it all to you.”

Finally, tears of pure happiness were flowing down Genji’s cheeks and Hanzo was there to wipe them away with gentle touches of his fingers and a chaste kiss to his forehead.

Genji didn’t know how he got so lucky. Not only did he have a loving husband and extremely supportive friends and teammates, but now he would have his older brother with him.

No longer would their father keep them apart, nor would he force Hanzo down a path he never wanted to walk. No longer would their father mold them into who he wanted them to be. Now, Hanzo and Genji were both free to be who they wanted to be and to stroll down a path together, hand in hand.

“Will you scent me, anija?”

“Of course, otouto.”

Genji was eight months pregnant and feisty as all hell, which everyone should’ve seen coming considering he hadn’t been on a mission in months, nor had he really been anywhere outside of the base.

Genji was itching to be back in the field but due to the high stress environment that would put him in, he wasn’t allowed on missions as the lookout nor was he even permitted to be on the plane taking his teammates on assignments.

After much snapping and pleading, Genji had finally worked his way into training the new agents with Jack. While Genji wasn’t able to do much physically, he was Jack’s second pair of eyes to help correct the new recruit’s form or encourage them to keep working hard.

Yet, some recruits weren’t exactly thrilled about being corrected by a pregnant omega. Some of them were smart enough to keep their comments to themselves, but others wanted to kick the hornet’s nest.

It was while Genji was correcting an agent’s form when operating their handgun that one bold, or rather ignorant, alpha dared to voice his thoughts.

“How come we’re taking orders from a pregnant omega?” The alpha asked aloud, rolling his eyes for added measure.

Genji’s eyes widened in surprise and the competent agents in the training grounds gasped. Jack was seething as he stormed over to the alpha, who would’ve been smart to apologize or cower in fear in that moment.

“You want to run that by me again?” Jack got in the alpha’s face and growled. “Maybe it’ll sound less stupid a second time.”

Jack was giving the agent the chance to apologize or act like he didn’t say what they all knew he just said. Jack was giving him the opportunity to dig himself out of the hole he made, but the agent didn’t get the hint and decided to dive deeper.

“I get why you’re training us because you’re the Strike Commander, but him?” The agent had the audacity to point at Genji and laugh. “What’s he got to offer other than a sweet scent and a pretty face?”

Jack opened his mouth but the agent filled in the words for him, “And he’s pregnant, too! He can’t even touch his toes so what’s the point in having him here? He can’t do anything!”

“Listen here, you little shit.” Jack grabbed the agent by his face, making sure he would leave bruises. “I’d rather have Genji out in the field than some asshole like you! He’s ten times the agent you’ll ever be, even when he’s pregnant.”

“That’s… that’s some bullshit, commander.” The agent dared to squeak.

“I’d have Genji prove you wrong in a fight but I need all the agents I can get right now so I’ll hold him back for now.” Jack’s grip tightened with each word before he shoved the agent back.

The agent rubbed at his face and glared daggers at Jack before locking eyes with Genji. The alpha was pissed that not only a beta touched him like that, but said beta had more faith in a pregnant omega than him.

“Now, show some damn respect to Genji.”

“I will if he can prove he’s as good as you say he is, commander.” The alpha challenged, his eyes still on the omega.

“You fucking little-“

“No, commander.” Genji’s soft voice caused Jack to clamp his mouth shut instantly. Genji smirked, “If the agent would like a demonstration of what I can do then so be it.”

“Genji, I don’t think this would be wise for you to do.” Jack chided as he made his way over to the omega.

“Better yet… why don’t we make things interesting?” Genji continued without missing a beat. He allowed Jack to place a hand on his back for support as he waddled over to the alpha. “If I am so beneath you then why don’t we see who’s the better shot?”

“You’re on.”

“Whoever gets the most headshots in one round wins.” Genji reached out a hand, which the agent shook to secure the competition. “Twelve bullets, make them count.”

“Trust me, twelve is more than enough to put you in your place, omega.” The agent sneered, unknowingly unleashing the dragon.

“We shall see, alpha.”

Jack continued to try to talk Genji out of this, but it was too late and the omega was far too stubborn. Genji had his mind set to putting this agent in his place and reinforcing why he was assisting Jack in training the new recruits. There was nothing that could stop him now, and hell hath no fury like a pregnant omega scorned.

Genji and the agent were both standing the same distance away from their training dummies. Whoever had the most confirmed headshots by the time they ran out of bullets would be declared the winner.

The agent snickered to his friends, knowing full well that Genji’s specialty was in throwing shuriken rather than shooting bullets. To the agent, this would surely be an easy victory and a win he could flex to fellow agents, Blackwatch, and even Overwatch.

“Fire in three, two, one!”

The agent focused on his target and fired away. While he wasn’t entirely familiar with this gun, he was still confident in his abilities. He cursed each time he missed his mark or didn’t implant a bullet in the dummy’s head, but he was still sure that Genji would do worse than him.

The agent hit seven.

Genji hit twelve.

Genji twirled the handgun around with a cocky grin on his face. He brought the gun up to his lips and blew on it, as if he was blowing smoke at the agent. Genji pointed his gun at the agent, who flinched like many others did at the action. Genji clicked his tongue, mimicking the sound of the safety coming off.

“Bang.” The agent winced, causing Genji to throw his head back and laugh. “I may be a pregnant omega, but I still have a thing or two to teach these agents, especially you.”

“I’m sorry, I-“

“Save your apology. I know you are only sorry that you could not back up your words with action.” Genji shook his head, waving his gun.

“But-“

“Learn humility before you learn to shoot.” Genji tossed his gun at the agent, who bobbled it in his hands. “And before you speak to me.”

Without another word, Genji turned on his heel and walked over to Jack, who was bowing and holding his hand out for him to take. Genji bit his lip to stifle his giggles as he placed his hand in Jack’s, who kissed the back of it like he had seen Cole do.

Genji snaked his arm around Jack’s and together they announced to the team that they were done for the day. Neither of them looked back but they could tell the agents were staring at them, starstruck.

“Twelve for twelve, a perfect round.” Jack shook his head, chuckling. “I didn’t show you how to shoot like that.”

“It is one of the benefits of marrying a cowboy.” Genji winked.

“Show off.”

As much as everyone prepared for Genji’s water to break, no one was ready for it. They had all the supplies and the med bay was on standby, but emotionally everyone was a mess. In the end, Genji just wished that his water didn’t break during a friends game night.

One second Genji was flicking the spinner for their game of Twister and the next thing he knew his water broke and everyone was panicking.

Gabriel, Jack, Ana, and Reinhardt were a mess of limbs on the Twister mat so they could do nothing more as their teammates scattered around the room trying to grab Genji’s delivery supplies, but they were only successful at getting in each other’s way and creating chaos.

The doctors were quick to urge Cole to carry Genji down to the med bay while Hanzo and Kiriko were at his side. Cole tried his best to stay calm but he was scared on the inside. Genji’s pregnancy had been complicated but they managed.

Cole worried for the delivery.

Genji had experienced much pain throughout his pregnancy but at each ultra sound and appointment the doctors reassured the mates that all was well. Cole was concerned that during the delivery something would happen to either Genji or their pup, or both.

Cole looked down at the crying omega in his arms, feeling a pang of guilt for being the one to put him in anguish. He shook his head, pushing the thoughts out of his head because he knew no matter how the pregnancy would’ve been Genji still would’ve wanted this, to carry his pup.

“It’s going to have to be a c-section!”

Cole felt like his world was moving in slow motion when Angela said those words. Cole had nothing against c-sections or people who were born from them, but he worried about the prospect of Genji being cut open to get their child out.

“Why?” Cole asked, the only word that slipped from his lips.

“It’s not safe for Genji to perform a natural birth.” Moira answered as she and Angela prepared for the procedure. “His life and the baby’s would be at risk so a cesarean delivery is necessary.”

“Doc-“

“We need to begin the procedure so you need to leave.” Moira interrupted.

“Please, you gotta let me say goodbye to him.”

“He’s not going to die.” Moira scoffed. She shifted her attention to Cole, attempting to ease his nerves. “I assure you the doctor and I are going to do everything we can for them.”

“Please.”

Moira was about to refuse his request when Angela placed a hand on her arm. Angela looked up at Moira, pleading with her to allow Cole just a brief moment with his mate before they started the procedure. Moira shook her head and sighed in defeat.

“One minute, cowboy.”

While Moira and Angela ushered Hanzo and Kiriko out of the room, Cole hustled to Genji. The omega was withering in pain on the medical table, one hand balled into a fist while the other was holding his stomach. Even while he was in pain, Genji wanted to make sure his pup was safe.

Genji gazed up at Cole, his vision blurred from the tears streaming down his face. Despite all the pain and discomfort he was feeling, Genji still sent a bright smile towards his mate, one that made Cole’s heart thump in his chest.

“You still take my breath away, sweetheart.” Cole smiled, tears making their journeys down his face. “Pretty as a peach, always have been and you always will be.”

“Even with a big scar on my stomach?” Genji asked, a sad chuckle escaping his lips.

“Even prettier.”

“You have already married me.” Genji chuckled and reached for Cole’s hand, which he immediately found. “You do not have to charm or chase me.”

Cole brought Genji’s hand to his lips and kissed it, whispering, “You’re gonna be okay, darlin’. Moira and Angie are gonna take real good care of you and our pup.”

“I know.”

“I love you, Genji.” Cole leaned in and planted a soft kiss to Genji’s forehead.

“And I love you, Cole… you and our pup.” Genji gave the cowboy’s hand one last squeeze before Moira forced him out of the room.

Cole didn’t stop pacing back and forth outside the med bay. Despite knowing that his mate was in excellent hands, he was still worried. He could feel that Genji was fine through their mating bond but he would feel a lot better once the procedure was over and he could see both Genji and their pup.

Hanzo was a nervous wreck just like Cole but he tried not to show it, despite his leg shaking and his foot tapping on the ground. Kiriko tried to keep the mood light by cracking jokes but she didn’t radiate with that same confidence that Cole knew her to have, thus indicating that even she was concerned for Genji and the pup.

Gabriel, Jack, and Ana were in the waiting room with the rest of Overwatch and Blackwatch. It was up to the three of them to relay any information they learned from Cole or the doctors to the rest of the team, as well it was up to them to try to keep everyone calm.

It felt like an eternity had passed them by before the door opened. Angela had a bright smile plastered on her face, which had to be a good sign.

“They’re both okay. Genji’s going to have a slow recovery but he did well!” Angela announced. She smiled fondly at Cole. “Would you like to meet your daughter?”

“It’s a girl?!” Cole grinned. “We have a baby girl, Angie?”

“Yes, a healthy baby girl!” Angela stepped to the side to allow them to enter. “Would you like to meet her?”

“Lord help me, I’d like to!”

Cole made sure he hugged Angela as he passed by her, to which she returned with a laugh. Cole took a deep breath before he entered the room and was blessed with a wholesome sight.

Sitting up in a hospital bed looking worse for wear but still as beautiful as ever to Cole was Genji. At Genji’s side was Moira, who was looking down at the bundle in Genji’s arms with a soft smile, one that Cole rarely saw.

Genji looked up from their daughter and gave a weak smile, “What are you waiting for, Cole? Come meet your daughter.”

“Our daughter, angel.”

Cole made his way over to Genji’s free side and smiled down at the baby. Cole looked past the blood on Genji’s hospital gown, making a mental note to kiss his stomach later, and focused on the way their daughter seemed to smile back at them.

“She’s real pretty, darlin’.” Cole gushed, feeling emotional all over again in the best way. He pressed a kiss to Genji’s head, whispering into his messy hair. “Pretty like you.”

Cole couldn’t stop the tear that rolled down his face. He wiped it away and grinned, feeling like the luckiest man in the world to have both his mate and his pup safe and healthy.

Hanzo and Kiriko were at the foot of Genji’s bed, cooing at how precious their daughter looked. She would have sun kissed skin like Cole, no doubt. From the barely there hairs that she had on her head, they leaned towards being coffee brown like Cole, as well.

The eyes were where everyone could see a bit of Genji. She had almond shaped eyes and they were a lighter shade of brown, whereas Cole’s orbs were a deep chocolate.

“What’s her name? Did you two pick one?” Kiriko asked with a smile.

“You thought of the girl name, ain’t you, sweet thing?” Cole reached down and smiled when the baby snatched one of his fingers. “What’s her name?”

Suzume.”

“Really?” Hanzo’s eyes widened, surprised.

“That’s Japanese, ain’t it?” Hanzo nodded in agreement, prompting Cole to ask another question. “What does that mean?”

Suzume is Japanese for sparrow.”

Genji had thought about what their baby’s name would be if they were a girl for a long time, and he could think of no better name than Suzume. Finally, a child was going to be called sparrow as a compliment, as a testament to how free they were to be whoever they wanted to be.

“Little Suzie… I love it.”
