It's stupid and Izuku knows it but he can't stop thinking about it anyway, no matter how hard he tries.
He's not stupid, he knows his relationship with Bakugo has changed so much in the last months, he knows the other has started thinking of him as some sort of.. equal. Kinda? It's hard to say with Kacchan, but he doesn't hate him anymore.
He actually never did hate him. They had a long conversation some months ago, when Katsuki apologized (apologized!!) to him for how he acted during middle school, telling him how he felt like Izuku was looking down on him and only now realized it was just him being a 'fucking dumbass'. He said other things that right now don't matter.
What matter right now is that they made up and started hunging up again like they did when they were kids (and what a shock it was for their classmates! Katsuki still laugh at the thought of their faces).
This and the fact that, according to Ochako and Mina, Kacchan smiles when getting his texts?
"I'm sure you got it wrong." Izuku says again to his two classmates, who cornered him in front of their dorm door.
Mina puffs in offence, while Ochako pats her head.
"That's what I thought when Mina-chan told me, but then I saw it! The way he smiled when he read your text in the group chat. There is no way we're wrong!" his best friend exclaim.
Izuku frowns, trying to imagine it.
...
"Nah. Maybe he smiled when he saw the meme Sero sent? It was quite funny"
Mina pouts (pouts! It's adorable). "No! I'm telling you that it was because of you Midoriya!"
She gives him a look.
"Why don't you text him?"
"What?"
"Text him and we'll see his reaction."
The teen in question is studying with Kirishima and Kaminari on a table of the common room, far away from where they are. He hasn't glanced towards them one time since Izuku got back from his after dinner run, so it should be okay try to text him? Just so that his classmates leave him alone. He has some new pro heroes videos to catch up.
Izuku sighs while pulling his smartphone out of his pockets and searching for his childhood friend's chat, ignoring the girl's squeaks about how he saved him "Kacchan!!! *◡*"
This is stupid.
"What should I even tell him?" he mumbles, the two girls are are close each to one of his sides.
"Send him a meme!" suggests Mina, but Ochako turns it down because 'then how can we prove him that Bakugo's smiling because of him?!'
At the ends he just type an 'hi', while keeping his eye on his best friend. (Not that it's an hard task. He never really took them away from him since the first time they became friend)
The reply is instantaneous.
<<why the hell are you texting me>>
followed by a <<we're both literally in the same room>>
Okay, WHAT?
First of all: Katsuki never looked at him since he got inside, he didn't even turned around, how can he know that he got back?
Last but not less important: he smiled.
He really smiled.
Something warms sets inside of him, making him smile.
It was a small smile, but on Katsuki face it felt like it was something huge.
It was a small smile, yes, but it was there because of him. Because of Izuku!
He felt giddy, his inner child felt so proud and happy about the little gesture.

Smiling, he replied <<to see the way you react when i text you
you smiled, btw :)>>
The reply is instantaneous once again.

He can hear Katsuki's sigh from all the way here.
