Chapter 1: Apokolips War: The Aftermath

Chapter Text

After the chaos of the last Five years, Darkseid was finally defeated, but not without a cost.
The world was too broken to fix and the only solution was a complete reboot.

A fresh start.

John Constantine said it best, anything is better than this…
And with that Barry finally agreed and started running.
Running Towards a better tomorrow, a new hope.

The surviving heroes just sat down and watched as the Flash started running until he disappeared into the speed force and bring forth a new era.

Freddy, the last surviving member of the shazamily, held Anthea's hand for a final time.

"I don't know how, but I'm going to find you, okay."
Anthea could only look at him through teary eyes.

"Okay. But if you don't...I just need you to know that I love-"

"No. Don't."

"Tell me when you find me, okay?"

"...Okay."

And then a bright light broke out from the horizon line. It was coming towards them all, like a warm blanket comforting them after a long and tiring war.

They could finally rest.

It's over now.

Darkseid is gone.

Barry is running.

Constantine is staring after the flash, keeping his eyes on the speedster as he takes a final swig of his liquor. He's tired. This universe wouldn't let him live and it wouldn't let him die.

John hopes that in the new timeline, he and Zee will find each other and he'll finally get some kind of happiness after all the hell he's been through.

'Run, Barry, Run.' John prays.

Superman, no Clark watches as the sunrises on a new day.

A new world. He thinks to himself.

Maybe he Lois will start that family they had talked about during late nights of stargazing and romantic flights through the city. Who knows, anything is possible.

Starfire just wrapped Nightwing in a hug filled with as much love as she could muster up.

And even in the state the Lazarus Pit left him in…

He couldn't find it in himself to move out of her arms.

Somewhere underneath all the insanity, is Dick Grayson, and he's just glad to be in her arms one last time.

Damian and Raven shared what would be their first and ultimately their last kiss. Tragic. Just like most of their lives, but there was still good to be found in it. The Titans, The League...

There were diamonds in the rough.

A hello and goodbye… but between that, there was so much love.

Diana just sat down on a rock, closed her eyes and waited…

It'll be like this never happened. Like this was all a horrible nightmare and when these tired heroes open their eyes…

Their loved ones will be back.

Their homes will be back.

Their families and friends and everything…

will be back.

Maybe not as they were, but they'd be back none the less.

As the light began to swallow everything in sight like some kind of black hole, only a couple of moments away from them.

It won't be long now.

Anthea turned towards Freddy surprised to find him staring at her with such intensity.

She squeezed his hand in what she hoped to be a reassuring gesture and found him pulling her closer to him.

She leaned towards him, now only a breath apart, keeping eye contact and only says…

"I'm going to find you too. I swear on the River Styx."

And then they closed their eyes as they sealed their promises with a kiss, filled with so much grief over what ifs and should have beens.

Tears streaked down their faces as they held each other in a tight embrace. Trying so desperately to stay together, hoping that against the odds, they'll stay together.

Just as they deepened the kiss, that bright light filled with warmth and change enveloped them.

And then it was gone.

And a New universe was born.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Freddy Freeman didn't expect to wake up crying at 4 am.
It was so weird. The dream…Nightmare…? Whatever it was. It was just… strange.

And the weirdest thing about it was the more he thought about it the less he could remember about it.

See? Weird.

Freddy knows he's a weird guy, but this was really pushing it. But Sometimes…
He can't help but think that something was missing. Like he had something wonderful and now it's just gone.

Sometimes he dreams of flying, like Superman!

And other times he's a part of team of heroes.

And that's normal, because they're dreams. More specifically their his dreams. It makes sense that a superhero fanboy like himself would dream about being one.

And isn't normal to want to fly? Especially for someone who has to work twice as hard just to walk on his own. But… the girl…is new.
Not odd, but new. He's never seen anyone like her before, but then again he can barely remember what she looks like already.

It's only been 3 minutes and he's already struggling to hold on to any part of the dream-mare?

But the feelings?

They can't leave him fast enough.

He's struggling just to breathe without whatever this is… Suffocating him in his sleep.

He hasn't felt like this since the Bryer's shoved him in that trash can.

You would think that the school's would invest in less claustrophobic trash receptacles, but noooo…

As Freddy grabs his crutch and walks towards his desk, he tries to draw what he could remember, which wasn't much.
The flash running on water…

Some hobo in a coat drinking from a flask… a giant…"T"...

He's not gonna think too hard about that, his brain is full of chaos.

The girl…woman…whoever she was… was nothing more than a figure. Freddy couldn't even remember what she was wearing or what she looked like, but he knew that if he saw her he'd know.

She seemed really sad though. He feels really sad, but he has no idea why.
He's got a roof over his head, a genuine Batarang, a family that loves him and heck tomorrow there's going to be a new addition to his family.

Freddy glances at his clock. Eh, technically today. God I need to go back to sleep.

He stops drawing and closes his journal. He needed to stop thinking about… whatever this was and go back to sleep.

He's gotta help get the house ready tomorrow for the new arrival. He's gonna have a new brother and is he gonna mess with him?

Eh. Just a little bit, he's sure that this Billy guy is gonna look back and laugh someday.

He leaned his crutch on the wall next to the bedframe and buried himself in his comforter.

'Just go to sleep Freeman, nothing to worry about. New day, new brother and maybe new friend?'

Just as he's lost to the world, one last thought runs through his brain.

'I don't even remember what I was so upset about…'

Notes:

A/N: My fanfiction writing is a bit rusty, but I do like this pairing very much. I don't know what it is about me and rare pairs, but....

Yep. I'm shipping Fredthea all the way.

I don't know when I'll be finished with the second chapter, but let me know your thoughts?

Edit 07/04/23 : I just wanted to add more to end this on a different note
