Work Text:
Yamaguchi never wanted to be that boyfriend who missed his partner whenever they left for a couple days.
But it got hard when the day before Tsukishima was supposed to come home, Yamaguchi ended up getting stuck in their bedroom. It really could’ve been worse and he could’ve gotten stuck in the kitchen or bathroom. At least there is some food and they have an en-suite toilet in their bedroom.
Tsukishima would be back any minute… any minute…
It was not any minute, it was more like a day and a half. He felt like it was fair that he started to miss his boyfriend. There were many pictures around their bedroom and he fully began to think that he was waiting for his husband who had gone off to war.
He thought about calling Tsukishima and asking him to come home as soon as possible but that would mean he would have to admit he got stuck in their bedroom. He can imagine what Tsukishima would say since he was the one asking Yamaguchi to pick up some WD40 on the way home from work so they could loosen up the door.
The previous tenants had warned them about this exact thing since they worried that one day their children would get stuck. Thankfully that never happened to them but Yamaguchi didn’t take it seriously enough and got the door fixed. And look where that got him.
“Ah… so this is what karma feels like.” Yamaguchi could only laugh as he fully accepted his fate.
Tsukishima was none the wiser. He had just texted Yamaguchi to let him know he was getting on the flight back from Hokkaido. They thought there was going to be a delay from an incoming snow storm, which was typical for the island, but it had changed its course and the flight could stay on time.
He had no idea how much reassurance that brought to his boyfriend who was over a thousand kilometres away.
Tsukishima sat happily on the plane, watching the movies he downloaded, reading a book, he even tried to take a nap at one point which didn’t really work.
Yamaguchi was so proud of his boyfriend since the whole reason he had gone to Hokkaido was to join a research team and present their findings and the reconstructed model they made. It was a major conference that had experts from all over the world, not just in Japan. He had also made sure to get a couple games a volleyball in with a local team who had recognised him from the second division.
By now, only an hour or so in, Yamaguchi was pacing the walls like a stressed animal. He wouldn’t have been like this if he wasn’t locked in but since he knows he is, the anxiety was getting to him a little.
Multiple times he had picked up the phone to try and phone someone but every time he had chickened out. He thought he had gotten over that fear of being a nuisance but clearly he hadn’t. The more he thought about it he realised that he didn’t want someone to laugh at him for getting stuck.
Inherently he knew that anyone would laugh and he would too, if it happened to one of his friends. Of all people, Tsukishima would make fun of him the least. He’s always had a soft spot for Yamaguchi and was the first to comfort him. God Yamaguchi couldn’t wait to hear the door open and his voice calling out to him.
He felt like learning a new skill. He was going stir crazy. He was only stuck in the room for a maximum of 3 hours but Yamaguchi was a very active person, he liked moving around and finding new things to do.
Tsukishima was now in a taxi heading back from the airport completely unaware of the chaos that had unfolded in their apartment.
Yamaguchi had pulled off the covers and pillows from the bed and made a little comfort cave. He had the weighted blanket wrapped around him like a hug. It was the only thing that was calming him down.
It eventually sent him to sleep completely, hopefully he would wake up just as his knight in work clothes would come to rescue him.
Tsukishima came home with his bags as well as some gifts for Yamaguchi. The other man doesn’t leave Tokyo very often and he had some extra time to walk around the city and buy some trinkets to have around the house.
The first thing he thought was that the lights were off, the TV was off, but the door was unlocked. Yamaguchi’s shoes, car keys, and work bag were still there as well. So it wasn’t as if he had gone out anywhere.
“Tadashi? Where are you?” He looked around quickly and there wasn’t anything out of place in the house. None of their utilities had been stolen, the TV was obviously still there and the door was unlocked but the shoes were still there as well.
He looked around quickly before making his way to the bedroom and almost instantly finding out what the problem was. He tried opening the door and it felt like it was bolted shut.
Yamaguchi finally woke up to the sound of the door being hit and trying to be forced open. “Tsukki!” He called out and ran to the door to help him in pushing it open.
“Tadashi? What’s going on? Have you been stuck in here all day? How long has it been?” Tsukishima rammed his shoulder into the door and managed to finally get it unstuck. He didn’t have time to catch his breath before Yamaguchi was jumping into his arms.
Thankfully he managed to stay standing and put his hands under Yamaguchi’s thighs to hold him better. “Are you ok? Seriously, how long have you been stuck in there? Did you not think to phone someone to come get you out? Are you hungry?” Tsukishima put him down, which was a hard task since Yamaguchi was determined to hold on. “Well, I’ll take it that you missed me?”
Yamaguchi nodded into his boyfriend's chest. “I only realised I was stuck this morning. We should really get the door fixed…”
“I had been asking you, for a week, to pick up something to loosen up the door. I think we’ll have to fully take it off now.” Tsukishima grimaced while looking at the damage he caused by shoving into it.
“It would eliminate all the problems.” Yamaguchi agreed while also observing the dents in the door and the black marks from the door scraping against the side.
“We can deal with it later. Let’s get you some attention and food.” Tsukishima picked Yamaguchi back up and carried him over to the kitchen to shower him with food and affection.
Yamaguchi made sure to call a carpenter up the next day as soon as he was physically able to.
