Greek Tragedies

Summary:

It’s been destined that Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase will fall into Tartarus…but what if they fell in too early. Instead of two battle hardened warriors fighting their way to escape from the pits of hell, it’s two young children who are just trying to survive.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

“Come on, Percy!” Annabeth yelled, tugging at my wrist.

“But that’s—”

“I know!” she shouted. “The place you described in your dream! But Grover’s going to fall if we don’t catch him.” She was right, of course. Grover’s predicament got me moving again.

He was yelling, clawing at the ground, but the winged shoes kept dragging him toward the pit, and it didn’t look like we could possibly get to him in time.

What saved him were his hooves.

The flying sneakers had always been a loose fit on him, and finally Grover hit a big rock and the left shoe came flying off. It sped into the darkness, down into the chasm. The right shoe kept tugging him along, but not as fast. Grover was able to slow himself down by grabbing on to the big rock and using it like an anchor.

He was ten feet from the edge of the pit when we caught him and hauled him back up the slope. The other winged shoe tugged itself off, circled around us angrily and kicked our heads in protest before flying off into the chasm to join its twin.

We all collapsed, exhausted, on the obsidian gravel. My limbs felt like lead. Even my backpack seemed heavier, as if somebody had filled it with rocks.

Grover was scratched up pretty bad. His hands were bleeding. His eyes had gone slit-pupiled, goat style, the way they did whenever he was terrified.

“I don’t know how…” he panted. “I didn’t…”

“Wait,” I said. “Listen.”

I heard something—a deep whisper in the darkness.

Another few seconds, and Annabeth said, “Percy, this place—”

“Shh.” I stood.

The sound was getting louder, a muttering, evil voice from far, far below us. Coming from the pit.

Grover sat up. “Wh—what’s that noise?”

Annabeth heard it too, now. I could see it in her eyes. “Tartarus. The entrance to Tartarus.”

I uncapped Anaklusmos.

The bronze sword expanded, gleaming in the darkness, and the evil voice seemed to falter, just for a moment, before resuming its chant.

I could almost make out words now, ancient, ancient words, older even than Greek. As if…

“Magic,” I said.

“We have to get out of here,” Annabeth said.

Together, we dragged Grover to his hooves and started back up the tunnel. My legs wouldn’t move fast enough. My backpack weighed me down. The voice got louder and angrier behind us, and we broke into a run.

Not a moment too soon.

A cold blast of wind pulled at our backs, as if the entire pit were inhaling. For a terrifying moment, I lost ground, my feet slipping in the gravel. (TLT - Ch.19 - WE FIND OUT THE TRUTH, SORT OF)

Annabeth crashed into me and the both of us were once again dragged towards the edge.

Grover came running towards us grabbing onto a strap of the backpack, only for the bag to snap and launch into Grover’s hands.

“Percy! Annabeth!”

Grover’s bleats we’re the last thing I heard before Annabeth and I sank into darkness.

Chapter Text

You know that feeling where you think you’re falling while asleep and you suddenly wake up? I think it’s called the hippies jerk? That’s what falling into the pit feels like…except it goes on forever

(A/N: it’s actually called the hypnic jerk…)

I tried looking for a something to hold onto but everything was dark, in fact the only thing I could still see was Annabeth.

A look of fear was glued to her face, and I doubted I looked any better, but maybe because of that I grabbed her hand tightly as we fell deeper into the pit.

After what seemed like 100 hours, but was probably 3 or 4, I heard water.

I knew I would probably not have any control here but what else have I got to lose?

So I raised my hand and tugged on the invisible string that I felt, and the water rippled.

Gritting my teeth, I pulled harder and suddenly we were caught in probably the COLDEST water I’ve ever been in.

That was the first thing I registered. The second was that I felt completely exhausted and honestly what was the point.

“Percy!”

Is that Annabeth? Does it even matter?

“Percy-Don’t let go!”

I felt my body being tugged to the side and pushed out of the cold water.

Annabeth and I gasped for breath as if we’d decided to sprint a marathon.

I slowly get up, “Thanks, I owe…oh my gods”

Imagine a lasagna that’s gone bad two weeks ago… that was what this place looked like.

Great, we were gonna die  and I’m about to puke. (A/N: me too homeboy).

I looks at Annabeth “Are we in-“

She nodded, “Tartarus.”

I winced in pain as I got up, I looked at my legs and arms only to see shards of glass imbedded in my skin, my throat hurt every time I took a breath, the air was like acid.

Annabeth didn’t look any better, her hair was a mess and she looked ten shades paler than she ever had.

“What do we do now?” Sue me, when Chiron said that this would be a dangerous quest I didn’t expect us to land in literal HELL!

“I don’t know…”

“Then what are we supposed to do?!” I was getting angrier for some reason, kinda like when we first met Ares.

“Hey don’t take out your stupidity on me Waterboy!”

I narrowed my eyes at her, “you saying this is my fault?”

“Isn’t it? I told you not to go near the hole, but who needs to listen to me?!” If looks could kill, I’d be dead right now with the way Annabeth was glaring at me.

“I didn’t think we were gonna get sucked in!”

“You didn’t think? Of course you didn’t think!”

crkcrkcrk!

I turned my head towards the noise, Annabeth was still yelling at me.

“Shut up.”

“Excuse me?!”

“No really! I heard something!”

That snapped her from her anger, she pulled out her knife, while I reached for Riptide off the ground.

The acidic air is making it hard to see, but as I blinked, trying to clear my eyesight I see at least 100 legs.

“I’m going to die from a giant centipede.”

Notes:

I am ALIVE!
I am so sorry for the long delay (and I can’t promise it won’t happen again in a few month) unfortunately I’ve had a very stressful couple of years, lots a tears and anger but I never wanted to give up this story!
