"Don't you see that there are people who care?"
She'd really wanted to walk away and look all nonchalant, mature about it; she wanted to mean it when she said it wouldn't matter.
"Maybe it's the end for you, but for the rest of us—"
Even if the "it" in question was her own approaching death, even if she was afraid, too.
She couldn't move fast enough to avoid Claude's hand, grabbing her arm and pulling her in.
The next mutter, she heard from deep in his chest.
"I can't let you hurt us, Lys," he whispered. "Not like that."
