Chapter 1: A lie gone wrong

Chapter Text

It really isn’t fair. Long brown hair that reached past her shoulders falling down to the middle of her back. Her locks often took a gold, rich glow against the sunlight. Her smile especially was ridiculously enchanting, her dimples showing and the creases forming next to her eyes. It was impossible not to fall for Monika. The Gods had no right making Monika look so beautiful it just made everyone else look like grey blobs in the background. It was just too unfair. It was impossible not to fall for Monika. These facts led to the current predicament which formed in the literature club.

“What? You guys like Monika too!?” The vice president said almost dumbfounded

“And now the world probably knows with that loud ass voice of yours.” Natsuki cringes at Sayori’s volume.

“Well I guess it’s no wonder we all fell for Monika after all she is the prettiest girl in school.” Yuri says this with a content smile on her face as if the fact that everyone in the club has fallen for Monika is completely normal.

Sayori stands up with renewed vigour, a hand on her hip to emphasise her seriousness. “Ahem…so uhhh.” She twiddles her fingers before continuing once again. “Well we all need to come up with a game plan. I mean we can all confess to her one by one but that would be super awkward and embarrassing and there’s no way I have the guts. But there’s also no way we can just not do anything. She's totally gonna notice something’s up so we gotta come up with something before she finishes playing piano. Any ideas?”

Timidly raising her hand Yuri speaks. “Maybe we should just take turns.”

“Take turns? Do you think Monika’s some kinda toy?” Natsuki questions clearly against it. Glaring daggers into Yuri. Even Sayori was a little put off by the wording, fidgeting slightly.

“Ah..maybe I should have worded it differently. What I meant to say was why don’t we each spend alone time with Monika and see who she grows closest to. That way we don’t bombard her and she has the freedom to choose who she likes most.”

“I mean it’s not the worst idea.” “What do you think Sayori?” Natsuki faces her.

“Umm..I mean well if you two are okay with it then I don’t mind I guess.”

“You don’t mind what?” Monika stood behind Sayori asks with a curious yet teasing lilt on her voice. Her height makes it so that she’s slightly towering over the pink-haired girl looking at her with fondness.

Suddenly dumbstruck, it takes Sayori a while to regain her composure and attempt to come up with an excuse. Her usual Sayori response time is decreased by at least three seconds due to the thumping of her heart.

“Uuuuhh…ummm.” Sayori fumbles terribly for an excuse, her mind completely short circuiting as her fingers fidget more as if somehow it would kickstart her brain.

“We were just talking about reading one of the books I liked together, since usually none of you are very fond of them, this one is short and since Natsuki decided to agree to read with me for once I invited Sayori so us three can read it together.” Yuri comes in with an expertly executed lie, not even a single tell in voice. The only thing was the slight redness on her ears but Sayori’s sure that was just caused by Monika’s presence.

“Wow Natsuki, that's great expanding your reading tastes helps you discover so many good pieces of literature.” The praise from Monika gets an adorable reaction from Monika as Natsuki blushes and turns her head.

“Wh-whatever, it’s not that big of a deal, I just wanted to try something new.” Classic tsundere.

“Well since you guys are all gonna read together why not just come to my house and we can all read it together on the weekend since we have to prepare for the festival this week and if there’s any work left over we can do it at my place. The book is short right?” Monika says beaming.

The rest of the literature club stared at Monika for a little bit after realising what she said, all of them collectively dumbstruck.

Wait…MONIKA’S HOUSE???
