Chapter Text
Bachira wanted to know everything about his best friend. After being alone for most of his life, he came to Blue Lock in the hope of finding someone who could match him and connect with him. It was hard, and waiting became difficult after years of growing up lonely with only a monster to keep him company. But what else could he do but wait? It wasn’t until the first stage of tag when the monster told him “Pass it to him” that he felt the connection. He didn’t know what that bond would mean in the future, but he was so glad because now he has someone who has the same mindset and drive as him. He was thrilled; he didn’t think there would be someone for him when he received the invitation to Blue Lock. He was about to take a nap and felt himself falling asleep until a thought popped up in his head.
Is Isagi single?
He didn’t know where that thought came from, but he was wide awake now. For some reason, he just had to know the answer, so he got up with newfound energy and walked to the practice room where he knew Isagi was. He saw Isagi stretching on the sideline while Chigiri and Kunigami were playing against Raichi and Igarashi. He didn’t bother looking at the score- he knew Chigiri and Kunigami were winning- and beelined towards Isagi.
“Isagiii!” Bachira called out to him and jumped onto his back, making sure not to put all his weight on him.
”Bachira?!” Isagi held a hand over his heart. “Don’t do that! What are you doing here?”
“This is a public space, Isagi, Am I not allowed here?” Bachira didn’t give Isagi time to answer. “I was gonna offer some of my expertise and dribbling advice, but I guess you don’t need them.” Bachira stood up and turned around, waiting for Isagi to take the bait.
It worked, and Isagi instantly called after him, “Wait! Let’s practice, I’ve been for my turn anyways.” He shot up from where he was and jogged over to him. Bachira turns around to face him, a grin overtaking his face. “Ok, striker, let’s see what you got.”
After a few lessons on dribbling and passing, Isagi felt fired up and wanted to produce what he’d learned in a match, so they decided to wait till the other’s game was done so they could join in. Bachira thought it was the perfect time to ask the question.
”Isagiii,” he started and waited until Isagi replied.
”Yes?”
”Are you single?”
“W-w-what brought this up. Why d-do you want to know?” Isagi’s face was red, and he looked like he wanted to hide. Bachira couldn’t help but find it endearing. He has eyes, and it would be a lie to say he didn’t find Isagi pretty. He saw the other four in the room pause before Chigiri stole the ball from Raichi and kicked the ball into the net.
“Hey, you prissy princess! That shouldn’t count, we were distracted!” Raichi yelled, storming up to Chigiri and getting close to his face.
Chigiri shrugged, “That counts. Distractions can happen in a real match. I’d be a fool not to take advantage of it. I won’t wait for you to get your act together then continue on like an idiot.”
Raichi is red from anger and grabs Chigiri’s shirt. “You little bast-!”
Kunigami steps in and grabs Raichi’s wrist, “Calm down, Raichi. Let him go. I admit that wasn’t very noble of you Chigiri, next time, let’s play fairly, okay?”
Chigiri clicked his tongue and quietly agreed, not wanting to start an argument with his teammate.
Isagi steps in too, “Yeah, guys, don’t fight. If you want to argue, do it on the field.”
He lets go of Chigiri’s shirt and turns to Isagi. ”Shut up! It’s your fault I got distracted anyways! You have no say in this!” Kunigami let go of Raichi’s wrist.
Isagi is taken back, eyes wide. “How is it my fault?!”
Bachira decides to join the train wreck. “It’s obviously because Jaws-chan wants to know if your single, Isagi.”
”Wha-“
“Shut the fuck up! Everyone was distracted! Don’t say only I want to know!”
Igarashi chose the worst time to say something, “But you do want to know, don’t you?”
“ARRGGHHH!” Raichi tackles Ingarashi to the ground, and Kunigami and Isagi try to pry Raichi off of him while Bachira laughs in the background. Chigiri is standing at the sideline, looking amused at the scene. Bachira didn’t expect such a question could cause this much chaos, but he didn’t regret asking.
It wasn’t until the speaker in the practice room turned on, that Jinpachi Ego’s monotonous voice filled the room, “Killing teammates is prohibited. Refrain from taking one’s life as it is punishable and will exempt you from playing in any more matches.”
Raichi got off of Igarashi and tsked before another announcement came. “Also, murder is bad.” Well, thanks for that input, Ego.
Isagi sighed in relief, glad that the fighting was over. They decided to go to the sideline and rest more before changing teams and playing another match. Once they all sat down, Bachira asked the question he came over there, to begin with again.
”Isagiiiii, you didn’t answer my questionnnn. Are you single or not?” He whined.
All the attention was on Isagi. Isagi felt sweat running down his face and contemplated whether or not to tell the truth. He sighed in resolve and said, “No, I’m dating someone.”
The reactions were instantaneous. Igarashi started to scream bloody murder. Raichi looks pale and dead inside. Kunigami looks constipated, mumbling incoherently to himself. Chigiri looked the most normal, but his mind was running miles in minutes. Bachira didn’t know what to feel. Sure, he’s the one who asked and was curious enough to, but any answer other than ‘yes’ threw him for a loop.
”Guys?” Isagi was getting concerned. His friends hadn’t reacted how he’d thought they would. He thought major teasing and making fun of him were in order, but it was disconcerting.
Bachira was the first to snap out of it and smacked Igarashi on the head to get him to stop screaming. Once the screaming had stopped, the room was quiet aside from Kunigami, who was still mumbling.
“I didn’t expect that, Isagi. I thought you would be like ‘Of course I’m single, the only thing in my heart is soccer. It’s in my blood. If I’m going to be the number one striker, I have to eat, sleep, and breathe soccer. Duh, I’m Isagi. Soccers in my blood.”
Isagi laughed, looking relieved, “That does not sound like me! You dragged that on for way too long. I have more than soccer on my mind, it’s just… we’re in Blue Lock and it’s hard to think of anything else right now.”
Chigiri’s the second person to come to his senses. “That’s fair. Soccer is what I’m thinking about constantly, too, these days and how to improve.”
Isagi smiled sweetly at Chigiri, “See? You understand, Chigiri.”
Chigiri would never admit it but thought for a moment Isagi looked… cute. He shook his head. He won’t fall for his charms. To distract himself from that thought, since three of their other teammates were out of order, he decided to wake the princesses up from their spell by smacking each one of them across the face. He had to get rid of this cute aggression somehow.
“OW! What the hell, Chigiri?” Kunigami rubs his cheek to ease the pain.
”The fuck was that for you red-headed bitch?” The handprint on his cheek was prominent. Isagi suspects he hit Raichi harder than the others.
“Ughhh.” Igarashi was lying on the ground, unmoving.
”Uh-oh, I think you broke eyebrows-monk over there.” Bachira said in amusement.
Isagi looks at his team and wonders if they’ll be okay.
”So! Isagi, when can I meet them?”
All their attention is on Isagi again and he lets out a nervous laugh. “Not anytime soon, we’re in Blue Lock, remember? And I have to keep leveling up and evolving, but that’s not enough to reach him. I still have to work my way up to the top to be able to see and compete with him.” Isagi’s eyes are distant, but fond, becoming lost in thought.
Two words stuck out to Bachira. Firstly: compete. Secondly: him. Isagi has a boyfriend who’s a soccer player.
“Oh? Your boyfriend is a soccer player?“
Isagi laughs nervously, not meaning to let that information slip. “Uhhh… I can’t tell you. It’s better for him to be anonymous, so nothing gets spread accidentally. Sorry, Bachira.”
“That’s weird. He’s famous?” Chigiri looks at Isagi in surprise and asks a question of his own, “How old is he?”
“18.”
Raichi pitches in, “What team does he play for?”
“I can’t tell you.”
Igarashi joins in, “Where did you two meet?”
“Can’t say.”
“Do we know who it is?”
“I … don’t know. Maybe? Maybe not?”
Interesting. The more questions asked, the more suspicious Bachira gets. Isagi is dating an 18-year-old, famous soccer player? He won’t tell us what team he’s in, and we might or might not know who it is. Bachira calls bullshit. He can smell it and he wants to give the blue-eyed boy the benefit of the doubt, but it all seems so unreal. Still, Bachira thinks, there’s no reason to lie about it.
“Ok! One last question.”
“Go for it.”
”Are you happy?”
With that question, Isagi beams. “Yeah, I am.” No hesitation. Maybe he is dating someone, after all, and Bachira’s being suspicious for nothing. “If that’s all, could we play a practice match now?”
Everyone internally groans. After dropping that information on them, Isagi is already wanting to play a match. It’s hard to believe he is dating someone with what little information given about him.
“Is anyone going to say it?”
“Don’t say anything, Raichi.” Chigiri crosses his arms.
”I’ll say it.” Igarashi puffs out his chest and looks Isagi straight in his eyes. “Isagi, that sounds like a bunch of balogna.”
”Huh?”
”Igarashi! Be quiet.” Kunigami frowns. “Don’t judge him.”
Isagi frowned and said something in a different language before switching back to Japanese, “You guys don’t believe me?”
Silence.
“Bachira?” Bachira stares straight ahead, unmoving.
Isagi turns to the Chigiri, “Chigiri?” Unfortunately for Isagi, he stays quiet, not making eye contact.
“Kunigami?!” Isagi sounds desperate now, but Kunigami turns his head away. “You got to admit, Isagi, mysterious famous boyfriend, who you don’t want leaking info of. Sounds far-fetched.”
”More far-fetched than me claiming to become the best striker in the world?!”
”Yeah, honestly.”
”You guys are unbelievable.” Isagi pouted. “I told you about my boyfriend and all of you don’t believe he exists.”
”To be fair, you didn’t tell us much about him.” Chigiri stated.
Isagi looks down at his feet, face all discouraged.
”Aw, cheer up, Isagi, I totally believe you. I was just quiet earlier because I was processing everything that you said!” Bachira feels a little sorry now, so he wants to cheer him up.
”Really?”
”…yes.”
”Liar! I don’t even want to practice anymore.” The pout on Isagi gets poutier. This wasn’t good, since when does Isagi not want to practice? Bachira has to remedy this situation.
”Don’t say that! Let’s split teams 3v3, although it’s technically 2v3 for whoever gets Igarashi on their side.”
Isagi heard an offended ‘Hey!’ but ignored it and smiled. “Ok, let’s play.” He’ll just have to convince them that he’s not delusional another day. Until they win against Team V, Isagi will keep it in the back of his mind and continue to evolve and grow so he can dethrone his arrogant boyfriend and bury him in the dirt.
