Chapter Text
Sigma's job had exhausted him today. He cherished and appreciated all his customers immensely, but sometimes everything got too overwhelming for him to deal with at once. He sat at his desk and shot a text to his friend, explaining how he may need to close up earlier than usual, and asking if the man could cover for him as he wasn't feeling his best. Sigma smiled down at the soft glow of his phone as notification from Atsushi flashed up saying "Feel better soon!!" He then pocketed said phone and exited the casino.
When he got home, a 30 minute drive away from his casino that had today consisted of loud music in order to keep himself awake, he felt even more tired than before. He walked up the stone path leading to white steps and a matching door. Smiling, he breathed in the scents of the flowers all around him that Atsushi and his partners had helped him to plant.
It had been a beautiful day, about a week after he had moved into the cottage, when the others had helped to make the place feel like home. Lucy, Akutagawa, and Atsushi all came to plant flowers in Sigma's new garden. He watched upon them fondly as the day went by, noticing how Lucy giggled as her boyfriend put flowers in her hair, laughing fondly at Akutagawa pretending he wasn't enamored by Atsushi's bright smile.
Sigma also remembered laughing with his friends about Akutagawa's stark contrast to the environment. Lucy was wearing a pale blue dress with flowers in her braids, Atsushi had on a white shirt with floral pattern and plain pants. Sigma donned a light purple sweater with his trousers from the casino uniform. And then there was Akutagawa, dressed from head to toe in black gothic clothing with dark red undertones, looking scarily akin to a vampire.
After they had finished planting the flowers, they had decided to bake cookies which they cut into heart shapes, something that Akutagawa had scoffed at.
Sigma sighed tenderly, finishing up his reminiscing and twisting his door handle to step inside. He hung his keys up and removed his coat and shoes, then immediately headed to his bedroom without not even a thought of food or cleaning up. As soon as Sigma's head hit the pillow he fell fast asleep, dreaming of flowers and his friends. Sappy things, if you asked him in a state other than a dreamlike one, but he had been through too much to not appreciate what he had now.

Chuuya woke up with a sour taste in his mouth, he stuck his tongue out and made an 'eugh' sound. Immediately after, he heard a stifling giggle from the dark corner of his bedroom.
"I know you're there, idiot." He muttered, swinging his legs over the side of his coffin and walking over to his brown haired companion.
"Is Chuuya hungry?" He smirked knowingly. As the shorter man got closer, Dazai's striking red eyes that matched with his own came into view. Chuuya stared at the bandaged vampire before scoffing and turning on his heel. Dazai called out after him as he stormed down the corridor; "Don't starve yourself, partner!"
Annoyingly, Chuuya thought as he stormed down the hallway, Dazai was right. He was hungry, it had been almost a month since he had fed on a human and he was starting to feel the effects. He would have to find some random house, he thought to himself. Chuuya did not enjoy breaking and entering, nor did he enjoy sucking the blood of innocent humans. However, he also did not enjoy the idea of becoming weak from starvation and lack of blood. He sighed, making his way to the map room of the house.
Once he arrived in the room, he found his sister staring at a very particular point on the table. Chuuya looked in closer, noticing that she had drawn little hearts around one house, he laughed at her fondly and drew back. Upon hearing him behind her began to speak.
"Are you hungry Chuuya?" She asked, straight to the point. And then right before Chuuya could reply she said;
"Dazai told me you were." Of course he did, his partner had known even before Chuuya himself did. Chuuya let out a sigh and stepped around the woman to peer at the other side of the map.
"I am, do you have anywhere i can go?"
"Hmm," she responded, her red eyes glistening in the candlelight.
"There's this house." She pointed with her black nails, like knives on the paper, to a small cottage-looking drawing near the edge of the map, seemingly surrounded by trees.
"Yosano says someone recently moved in, I don't have any more information other than that. Though, you can try it if you wish." She explained to Chuuya. He paused for a moment in thought, before another wave of hunger washed over him. He felt nauseous as he waved to Kouyou and said;
"Yeah, that's fine thanks. Anything will do." She smiled at him as they exited the room in opposite directions. As Chuuya was leaving, committing the location of the house to memory, he came across Dazai once again.
"Hey, I'm going out too." He exclaimed with a smile on his face. All too cheerfully, Chuuya thought.
"Don't be mad at me Chuuya, none of us like drinking from humans but you need to take care of your needs." He said, his voice softer.
Chuuya sighed for what felt like the tenth time that day before giving Dazai a small smile that said 'I'm sorry, I know.' They both left the house and went their separate ways waving to each other in the process. Chuuya was travelling on his motorbike to the house. As he was driving he was imagining to himself the kind of old guy that probably lived in this shack in the woods. He almost shuddered at that, the blood didn't sound very appetizing, but he had to do what he did to survive. Even though it wouldn't taste very good, and he could probably find much more pleasurable victims if he tried, it would satisfy him for at least another month.
He arrived outside the house and stepped off of his motorbike, leaning it against a tree. He removed his helmet and placed it onto the seat. Chuuya looked up at the sky appreciating the view of the stars as the trees left spaces for him to see. He made his way toward the entrance taking note of the flowers beside the path, and those adorning the beds, that led up to the house as the moonlight reflected onto them. Maybe this person wouldn't be so bad. He felt the moon beams upon his own skin, as if rejuvenating him. Kouyou swore that the moonlight had no specific effect on vampires, but Chuuya always felt like it gave him more strength.
He jumped onto the roof above the front door and made his way to the nearest window. He peered in. He saw a desk with an overwhelming amount of papers stacked neatly in rows that reminded him of Dazai's friend Ango. The man was not a vampire, but Dazai had still found a way to befriend him and his husband. There was no one inside the room however. Chuuya cursed under his breath, fearing that the owner of this house wasn't home. He wasn't sure he could go another day without food.
He made his way over to another window around the side of the house, clinging onto the wall with his hands. In this room he saw a bed with white and purple covers. The walls were adorned with photos of people smiling. Chuuya similarly smiled to himself, noting that all of the people in the photo looked around his age or slightly younger. They also looked happy, Chuuya suddenly felt proud of people that he didn't even know. His gaze went back to the bed, where he gasped as he made out the shape of a human sleeping there.
He moved closer to the window, touching it tentatively. Chuuya must've been luckier than he thought, because the window slid up with his hand. He let out another curse, positively now, as he slowly opened the window as far as it could go. Luckily, again, for Chuuya he was fairly short. Something that he would not be happy about in any other situation. Due to this, he was able to easily slip inside the window's opening. He knew for a fact that if Dazai were here right now he would have teased him to no end.
Once Chuuya was inside the room he looked around once again, the person was under the covers so he still had no confirmation they weren't 85. Although, he was hoping. And the decorations didn't look like that of an old man. Chuuya never really planned his feedings out, he got into the rooms and never knew what to do after. 'Its fine,' he thought to himself. 'I'll just go over to them, drink their blood and leave. They don't even have to know.' He did feel guilty about not asking humans before drinking their blood sometimes, but honestly no one had ever offered their blood to him, or Dazai either, so it wasn't likely they would agree. He had no idea how Kouyou got so lucky with that human she was always visiting.
Chuuya moved carefully toward the bed, trying not to wake up the sleeping human. Evidently, he was not careful enough, as right when he got close a hairbrush fell off the shelf and onto the floor making a loud noise.
"Shit." Chuuya muttered, cursing for the third time.
The covers on the bed flew back and Chuuya came face to face with a surprised human with gorgeous lavender eyes staring into his own red ones. The person sat up aggressively, their split-dyed purple and white hair that matched with the bedding, cascading down their back and around their shoulders. Chuuya stood there in shock, his eyes getting wider as he watched the human stare at him. Firstly, because Chuuya had never been caught before. And secondly, because this was one of the most beautiful people Chuuya had ever seen.
Chapter Text
Sigma had woken up to a startling noise stealing him from his dreams. He shifted under the covers thinking he must've left something near the edge of the shelf and tried to go back to sleep. Only a second later he heard someone whisper something, and he sat up throwing the covers away from his body. He locked eyes with a ginger man in leather standing right at his bedside. A few seconds passed and said man just continued to stare at Sigma. He had no idea what to do, nobody had ever broken into his house before. He hadn't even had a home until recently, and nobody visited him other than his friends.
Sigma hesitated before deciding to speak, ending the weird trance that the mysterious person was in.
"..Who are you?" He asked slowly, suspicion laced into his voice. The man blinked twice and regained his composure, seemingly remembering his situation.
"Uh," he hesitated.
"I'm Chuuya Nakahara." He held out his hand for Sigma to shake. Sigma stared at him, 'what a stupid man,' he thought. Say that he wasn't lying, he had just told Sigma his full name. Why on earth would he do that..? Sigma questioned to himself.
"Right.." He replied, pointedly not taking the other's hand.
"And what are you doing in my house?" He asked, his hand instead moving over to reach for his phone. He thought about calling Atsushi, or maybe his partners, they were scarier.
Chuuya noticed his movement and avoided his question.
"I'm not going to kill you." He said calmly.
"I notice you didn't say you weren't going to harm me though." Sigma replied, raising an eyebrow. At this, Chuuya's lips turned upwards into a small smile, but not a sinister one, as far as Sigma could tell.
"I don't like to make promises I can't keep." He joked. Or at least he thought it was a joke, Sigma wasn't really sure. There was another silence as he thought to himself again about; why this unknown man had come into his house, addressed himself as if they were at a dinner party, and was here talking with him at, Sigma checked the time, almost 4am. His gaze went past the ginger and landed on his open window. He realized that he must have left it unlocked, which he attributed to being tired. How many times now has Atsushi warned you to lock your windows, a voice said in the back of his head. Maybe if he had listened to his caring friend he could've prevented this situation from occurring.
Noticing the silence, Chuuya started speaking again.
"I'm surprised you're this calm, most people start screaming by now." He noted.
"Most people? You do this often then?" Sigma questioned, teasingly.
The man hummed in thought. "More than I'd like, he answered.
Sigma was confused by all of Chuuya's words and behaviours, this made no sense to him. The wind blew in through the window making Sigma shiver. He pulled the covers back around himself to savour some of his earlier warmth. Chuuya watched him do this carefully.
"Are you scared?" He asked.
"No." Sigma replied. This seemed to entertain Chuuya in some way.
"Oh? Why not?" Chuuya grinned.
"Because I've been through worse." Sigma replied.
Chuuya's smile fell slightly, he thought back to his earlier feelings about the pictures on the walls and found himself now feeling bittersweet. The smiles in the photos meant more to him if things hadn't always been easy for the human.
Sigma continued; "much scarier things than a short man in a leather jacket trying to intimidate me."
Chuuya immediately seemed offended and turned a pale shade of red.
"I'm not that short.." He muttered indignantly.
He then said something that Sigma couldn't quite make out which sounded like it ended with; "..just like Dazai."
"Hmm.." Sigma pretended to think to himself.
"You are pretty short." He laughed at Chuuya's offense.
"I bet you're not that much taller." He grumbled.
Sigma smiled, hoping this wasn't a trick to kidnap him, and stood up. It wasn't a surprise that he was much taller than Chuuya. Chuuya blinked up at him, not expecting to see him standing, and cleared his throat awkwardly.
"Okay fine. You win, whatever."
Sigma sat back down on his bed laughing now at the other's defeat. He found himself enjoying Chuuya's company. And then found himself feeling weird about that, this man had literally broken into his house. He could hear Lucy's voice saying 'romantic' and Atsushi's voice saying 'please don't romanticize breaking and entering'. He laughed even more at the thought of his friends. Chuuya watched him and smiled again, this time showing his teeth to do so. Sigma caught sight of two fangs on the top row of the shorter man's teeth and stilled, stopping his laughter.
The colour drained from Chuuya's face as he noticed this and he snapped his mouth shut abruptly.
Sigma did not have any experience with vampires personally, but his friends did. Lucy's best friend was a vampire. Sigma saw no issue with vampires living amongst everyone else, they were once human themselves anyway. Obviously he didn't agree with the violence that some vampires possessed, but most of them didn't ask to be this way, and that was something Sigma could empathize with.
Someone from Atsushi's work had started seeing a vampire, and she would defend her girlfriend to everyone. She said, in a moment of oversharing in Sigma's opinion, that getting blood sucked wasn't all that bad as long as the vampire cleaned up properly afterwards and didn't go overboard.
The revelation that Chuuya was a vampire didn't scare him more, in fact it made everything make sense. Why he was here, what he probably wanted.
"So.. you were just gonna take my blood?" Sigma asked, looking up at Chuuya from his place on the bed.
"Well... Yeah." He said awkwardly.
"Honestly I thought you would be older.." He trailed off.
"That doesn't really make it better." Sigma replied.
Chuuya sighed. "I know."
Silence fell over them once again, Chuuya found himself needing to explain.
"I don't really enjoy doing this. Obviously, you know I have to so I don't have much of a choice." Chuuya said, sounding genuinely sad.
Sigma felt bad for the vampire, he found himself wishing he could help. 'You can' his mind said. But he wasn't really sure he was willing to go that far for a man he had just met. Chuuya seemed to study Sigma's reactions and behaviour to his newfound discovery. Sighing as he said,
"I'll leave, it's okay." Sincerely, he smiled at Sigma again and moved to climb back out of the window. Sigma watched him, a conflicting feeling in his chest that he couldn't quite place. Before he knew it, he was objecting.
"Wait." He said, standing up once again. He took a deep breath. "You can stay, if you'd like." Sigma said quietly. Chuuya turned back to face the human and looked at him questioningly.
"This doesn't mean I'll let you drink my blood right now. But, maybe I can help you out if you tell me more about yourself?" He offered.
Sigma felt drawn to this vampire, he didn't like the thought of never seeing him again. He wanted to know Chuuya, wanted to befriend him.
Chuuya paused mid-way out the window and considered.
"Okay." He said.
"Can I sit?" He gestured to the bed. Sigma shuffled over more to make space for him.
"Yeah sure."
They looked at each other, Sigma taking in the sharp redness of Chuuya's eyes. He found himself wondering about their original colour.
"What colour were your eyes before?" Sigma asked gently. Unknowing if 'before' was a touchy topic for the redhead. Chuuya seemed to be caught off guard, as if he wasn't expecting this kind of question.
"Blue." He replied, still looking at Sigma. Dazai used to love his blue eyes, he complimented them whenever he could. Chuuya felt bitter about the change, but Dazai assured him that his eyes were still captivating.
"Quite a difference then." Sigma smiled.
"Yeah." Chuuya laughed softly, he wasn't bitter about it anymore.
"Your eyes are gorgeous." He said, voice still soft.
"Oh, thank you." Sigma replied.
"Atsushi says so too, he picked out a bunch of my flowers because they matched my eyes." He smiled fondly.
"Atsushi..." Chuuya muttered.
"From the photos?" He glanced up to their place on the wall. Sigma turned around to view them, continuing to smile.
"Yes." He said.
"Is he.. your boyfriend?" Chuuya asked tentatively, upon seeing the way Sigma looked so fond of the man. To his surprise Sigma just started laughing.
"No, not at all." He said in between.
"He's my best friend. You see the other two in the photos?" Sigma pointed to Lucy and Akutagawa with his nail.
"Those are his partners." He laughed again, hiding behind his hand.
"Oh." Chuuya said, slightly embarrassed but somehow relieved at the confirmation.
"So, do you know other vampires?" Sigma changed the topic, picking up on Chuuya's embarrassment.
"Yeah, actually we live in a house full of vampires." Chuuya explained.
"I think there's about 15 of us." He said.
"That's cool." Sigma replied.
"I suppose it's safer that way?" He inquired.
"Yeah." Chuuya answered.
There was a silence as Sigma got lost in his thoughts, desperately trying to remember the names of the vampires his friends knew. Once he remembered he exclaimed and Chuuya looked at him curiously.
"Do you know a vampire named Edgar?" He asked.
Chuuya thought for a second and then shook his head.
"I don't think so." He thought once more before saying;
"Although I'm not very good with names, Dazai probably knows him. The guy seems to know every vampire in the country, and some abroad, I don't know how he manages that..." Chuuya trailed off toward the end, muttering to himself.
"Who's Dazai?" Sigma asked.
"He's my partner." Chuuya replied, Sigma watched as he seemed to brighten up as if excited to talk about him.
"He's really annoying, literally the bane of my existence." He continued.
"He can also be pretty funny though, I think you'd like him." He finished.
Sigma laughed lightly at Chuuya's conflicting emotions about his partner, before remembering what he was asking.
"Oh right, do you know a vampire named Kou? Wait what was it.. Kouya? Kouyo?" He cycled through the names, trying to remember what Yosano had said her girlfriend's name was.
He looked up from his lap to see Chuuya blinking at him in surprise.
"What?" He asked.
"You know her?"
Chuuya blinked again before slowly replying,
"Kouyou Ozaki?? She's my sister."
"Oh." Sigma replied inelegantly.
"Why? Do you know her?" Chuuya asked.
"Uh." Sigma hesitated, not knowing if Chuuya knew about his sister's relationship.
"I think she's friends with someone I know." He said carefully.
"Yosano?" Chuuya asked, smiling. Sigma nodded.
"I think they're more than friends." He laughed, showing off his teeth to Sigma once again. He laughed with the vampire and Chuuya noticed that he particularly enjoyed making the human smile.
A silence fell over them as they looked at each other, eventually Chuuya resumed looking around the room at Sigma's decor. There were many purple items, and along with the framed pictures of his friends there was a big photo of a building in the city. Chuuya seemed to recall driving past it before, he thinks it was a bar or casino or something. He doesn't visit places like that, he doesn't get to enjoy the city.
He also observed a vase full of roses on a table, they had a little note with red swirly handwriting on. Chuuya wondered if they had been picked from the garden, or if someone had bought them for the human. He found himself making a mental note to bring flowers next time he visited. 'Next time?' He thought. 'I'm getting ahead of myself.' He sighed.
Sigma picked up on this, of course he did. Chuuya was quickly learning that the human was very observant.
"Are you okay?" He asked, moving his hand closer to where the vampire's lay. Chuuya looked back into his companion's eyes, startling when he realized how close the human was. He stared at Sigma as his hair fell down, framing his face in the most ethereal way. He watched him tilt his head as if to prompt an answer, and Chuuya realized that he had forgotten to reply.
"Yeah, I'm okay." He choked out. Sigma let out a yawn, covering his mouth with his hand and stretching.
"Sorry." He apologized, "But I'm very tired. It's been a long day, and it is getting very early."
Now it was Chuuya's turn to apologize for ruining the other's sleep.
"It was rather annoying to be disrupted like this." Sigma narrowed his eyes at Chuuya.
"But it's also pretty exciting, and I like you." He smiled. The vampire stared at Sigma, once again unsure of what to say.
"Cat got your tongue?" Sigma asked, and Chuuya found himself once again thinking that he and Dazai would get along amazingly.
"Thank you." Chuuya said.
"For giving me a chance even though I... broke into your house." He finished awkwardly.
"That's alright." Sigma laughed.
"Everyone deserves a chance, Atsushi says so anyway." He smiled fondly again.
"I'm glad we met, even if it wasn't under the best circumstances." He said, placing his hand over the top of Chuuya's against the soft blanket.
Chapter Text
After a few more conversations, Chuuya decided it was time for him to head home. Sigma watched him go, laughing as he climbed back out the window instead of using the front door. Chuuya had not gotten any blood, which is what he had come for. However, even though he was feeling incredibly fatigued now, he had met Sigma. And that was much greater than any amount of blood he could've been given.
He got back on his motorbike and drove back to his house, wondering if Dazai had gotten home yet. As he drove he felt the sun rising behind him, weakening him further. The sun didn't kill him, or hurt him. But it made him feel dreary, and on top of his hunger and fatigue it wasn't helping at all.
Once Chuuya got home he parked his motorbike and moved inside as quick as he could manage. He made his way to his and Dazai's bedroom, where his partner was sitting on their bed waiting for him. Their bedroom was dark red with gold accents, Kouyou's design. His sister was obsessed with dark red and she said it was perfect for vampires, so every room she got her hands on the blueprints for was themed like this. They had one bed that they shared as well as a coffin each, they used the bed most of the time, but the coffins if they were injured or lacking blood.
"Chuuya!" Dazai grinned as he watched him enter the room and slump onto the bed.
"What are you doing back so late? It's 5am you know." He asked teasingly. Chuuya just pushed his face further into the pillow and groaned. Dazai's light demeanor turned concerned as he took in the redhead's state.
"Weren't you going to get blood? What happened?" Dazai asked worriedly, usually Chuuya would tease him back or insult him when he made remarks such as this. The fact that he wasn't meant that he was completely exhausted.
"I met someone." Chuuya said, muffled by his pillow. Snapping Dazai out of his thoughts, he raised an eyebrow.
"You met someone?? Why didn't you drink their blood then?" The brunette pulled Chuuya away from the pillow so that he was lying on his back next to where Dazai was sitting. Chuuya sighed.
"He was very beautiful."
"Surely that would make you want to drink his blood more?" Dazai said, not understanding Chuuya's situation in the slightest.
"Were they scared?" Dazai asked.
"No." Chuuya sighed again. Dazai was becoming increasingly more confused as he stared at Chuuya. The redhead looked into Dazai's eyes and decided he would explain to his partner.
He relayed the whole ordeal to the other vampire and understanding, finally, washed over his face.
"So, Chuuya made a friend?" Dazai said, smiling at his partner. Chuuya could not make out if his smile was sincere or not, he shook his head at the brunette.
"It's not that shocking." Chuuya grumbled.
"Hmm.." Dazai pretended to think.
"It is pretty surprising, you can be quite aggressive." Dazai teased.
"Shut up." Chuuya responded, hitting Dazai over the head with his pillow. The hit however, had no effect on Dazai. Still the taller man, glad Chuuya was acting more like himself, dramatically flopped backwards onto the bed, hanging his head off of the edge. This showed him that although Chuuya was fatigued, there was nothing wrong with him emotionally right this second.
Dazai smiled and sat back up, looking at his partner's eyes as they glared into his own. They sat like that for about a minute, Chuuya then lay back down placing his hands over his stomach.
"Do you want to sleep?" Dazai asked him.
"You should probably sleep in the coffin again to reserve your strength." He suggested, poking Chuuya in the arm to make sure he wasn't sleeping where he was. Chuuya groaned for what felt like the tenth time that hour and sat up once again.
Dazai watched him do this with great effort and decided to help the redhead out.
"Here come on." He reached out to steady Chuuya, placing his hands on the other's shoulders. Chuuya just blinked at him. Dazai didn't like to see his partner so exhausted. Even though he was trying his best to hide it, Dazai knew. He was the first to notice, he was the one to alert Kouyou. The brunette would always be looking out for his partner even if he didn't show it.
He also knew how it felt to be lacking blood to this degree, and he knew it wasn't pleasant in the slightest. An idea came into his mind, one that he would usually be completely against. However, maybe he would be willing just this once.
Dazai reached out to brush a piece of Chuuya's hair back that had fallen in front of his eyes. He looked hesitantly at his partner and said slowly,
"I suppose.. you can drink from me." Chuuya just stared at him, confused.
"I thought you didn't like me doing that?" He inquired, searching for a hint of emotion on his partner's face.
"Or anyone doing that.." He added.
Dazai smiled, looking as tired as Chuuya felt. He guessed it was because Dazai was tired in a different way.
"I don't, but we can't have Chuuya collapsing on me." He tried to joke.
"I don't have to." Chuuya spoke softly.
"I know how much you hate it."
"It's okay." Dazai said, placing his hand on Chuuya's cheek.
"It's okay if it's you." He smiled at his partner.
Chuuya rolled his eyes but smiled back at him nevertheless. Chuuya was too tired to argue any further, he trusted that Dazai had meant what he said about it really being okay, so he accepted the offer.
Dazai pulled him closer and Chuuya wrapped his arms around the other, until the redhead was breathing into his neck.
"Only a little, though." Dazai affirmed.
"Just enough to keep you from being weak, then you need to actually drink from someone properly okay?" He whispered.
"Of course." Chuuya whispered back, and then he drank.

Chuuya woke up with a groan, feeling slightly better than yesterday due to his intake of blood, but still low. He noticed Dazai sitting on the edge of their bed. How did he always manage to wake up before Chuuya did? Dazai smirked at him and the redhead just ignored his gaze. He stepped out of the coffin and made his way to their closet to put on some new clothes. He felt his partner's eyes on the back of his head and turned around to glare at the offender.
"What do you want?" He snapped at Dazai.
"Oh nothing.." Dazai replied, smiling faux sweetly.
"I just think Chuuya should be nicer to me after what I did for him last night." He trailed off, still smiling. Chuuya turned back around to face his clothes, scoffing.
Chuuya did genuinely appreciate what Dazai had done for him. Especially knowing the man's disdain for being bit himself.
"Has it healed up already?" Chuuya said, throwing an outfit onto the bed next to Dazai.
"Yep!" Dazai smiled, clasping his hands together.
"You can't even tell it happened."
"I'm glad, I hope it wasn't too bad for you."
"I already told you it's fine Chuuya, you worry too much." Dazai laughed.
Chuuya came back toward the bed to get dressed as there was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." Dazai said as he jumped up.
He opened the door to reveal Kouyou in a long red dress, her hair tied back, and her arms and neck adorned with gold jewels. Dazai looked at her, surprised.
"Don't you look fancy." He smiled at her.
"She looks fancy?" Chuuya asked from where he was still getting changed himself.
"Where are you going?" He raised his voice to indicate that the question was directed at Kouyou.
Kouyou laughed to herself as she reached to touch her heart shaped necklace.
"I'm just going to lunch right now, but I came to tell you that I won't be back until tomorrow Chuuya." She called into the room.
Chuuya then appeared next to Dazai at the door, pushing him over gently so that he could speak to his sister directly.
"Lunch??" He asked.
"It's almost one, Chuuya." Dazai whispered to him.
"What? Why didn't you wake me up earlier?" His partner hissed back.
Kouyou rolled her eyes at their bickering and picked up a bag from the stand next to their door.
"I hope you fed last night." She gazed pointedly at her brother who looked away awkwardly.
"Anyway, I must be going now." She leaned down to offer Chuuya a hug.
"Bye." Chuuya replied, accepting the offer and putting his arms around his sister.
"Goodbye." She smiled and turned around to make her way down the stairs.

Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Chapter Text
Once Chuuya had left Sigma slept for a few more hours and then decided to get started with his day. He had to get to the casino early anyway, especially after leaving quickly the day before.
He pulled himself out of bed and made his way over to his closet pulling out a change of clothes, as he had fallen asleep in his uniform the night before. Then he went downstairs to make himself breakfast. He made toast and spread jam over the top, humming to himself as he did so, and thinking about his encounter with the vampire. He made a mental note to call Lucy today and ask her about... vampires in general.
As he finished his toast he looked down at his phone to see 3 missed calls from Atsushi. He called his friend back as he placed his plate in the sink.
Atsushi picked up on the second ring cheerfully giving a greeting to his friend.
"Hey Sigma!! Are you feeling better now?" He asked.
Sigma laughed, "I am, thank you Atsushi."
"How were things at the Casino after I left?" Sigma said as he put on his shoes and grabbed his keys.
"Everything went fine, you have nothing to worry about." Atsushi affirmed, Sigma could hear the smile in his voice.
"I have something to tell you guys, where are Lucy and Akutagawa right now?"
"Hmm," Atsushi hummed into the receiver.
"I think they're getting breakfast, is it urgent?"
"No, no it's fine, I'll tell you at lunch." He replied.
"Okay, sounds good!" Atsushi affirmed. A crash was then heard in the background and someone started to yell. Sigma raised an eyebrow, stepping outside and locking his door.
"Is everything okay over there?" There was a muffled sound.
"I think so.." Atsushi whispered. And then he giggled, beginning to explain.
"Something was just knocked over, that's all. I have to go now though."
"Alright. Take care of yourself, bye Atsushi." Sigma responded softly.
"I'll try my best, see you later Sigma!" And with that he hung up.
Sigma walked out to his car observing the flowers and the way the sun danced over them. He got in, and before he knew it he arrived at the casino.
He walked past the members, smiling at them as he did so, and made his way to his office. Sigma usually liked spending time talking to his customers. However, right now he had a lot on his mind, namely Chuuya. He still had so many questions about the vampire and was dying to see him again. Before Sigma knew it Atsushi was knocking on the door to his office.
Sigma looked up from his desk and shouted; "Come in."
Atsushi opened the door wide and walked into the room with a smile on his face.
"Hey Sigma, how's it going?" He asked as he moved around the desk to give his taller friend a hug.
"Still good, how about you?" Sigma smiled as he reciprocated the hug, standing up to do so.
"Good too!! Are you ready to go?" Atsushi asked enthusiastically.
Sigma always got lunch with Atsushi and his partners, since they all worked fairly close within the city. Atsushi's workplace was an office just around the corner and Lucy worked in the cafe underneath. Akutagawa's job was the furthest, but it was still not too far, he worked as a model a few streets down. Luckily they were able to have fairly flexible hours, Akutagawa being the exception, so they got lunch together whenever he had a break.
Sigma, being the owner of a casino, could choose the hours he worked within reason. Atsushi's work didn't seem too strict from what he had heard and they ate at the cafe where Lucy works, so she could stop working briefly to eat with them. Seeing as the cafe was right underneath Atsushi, Sigma found it incredibly sweet that Atsushi came to walk him over anyway.
Sigma didn't like walking in the city by himself, he was too conscious of all the people, even if it was just a short distance. Sigma broke himself out of his thoughts, realising that Atsushi was still awaiting an answer.
"Yes, let's go." He replied, smiling at the man.
As the two of them walked to the cafe, the sun shone down on them. It made Sigma think about Chuuya, even more than he already had been. He tried to listen to what Atsushi was saying about his job and co-workers, but his mind just kept going back to the vampire.
By the time they had reached the cafe, Lucy and Akutagawa were already sitting opposite each other in a booth, seemingly deep in conversation. Lucy was leant over the table slightly with her elbows resting in front of her. Her boyfriend had much better posture and was sitting up straight, one hand in front of him and the other on a drink that he was bringing to his lips.
They were likely gossiping with each other. Lucy loved it and as much as Akutagawa would pretend he had "no time for such things" it was clear that he enjoyed it too, or maybe he just liked seeing Lucy passionate about things.
Sigma and Atsushi made their way towards the table, catching Lucy's eye as they drew closer. She waved at them with a smile on her face, and Akutagawa turned around to face them.
"Hey guys." Atsushi said excitedly, dropping down next to Lucy as she shuffled over to make space. Both of them replied to their boyfriend before warmly greeting Sigma too. Lucy briefly got up to place their order before returning to the table.
"Soo..." She started, grinning at Sigma.
"Atsushi said you had something to tell us?" She questioned, lacing her hands together and resting her head on top of them, blinking directly at him.
"Ah, yes." Sigma responded, messing with his hands in his lap. Why was he nervous? Get it together, he told himself.
"So.. I met someone yesterday." He started, and before he could get another word in, Lucy gasped excitedly.
"Really?" She said, shaking Atsushi slightly.
"Yes." Sigma affirmed.
"His name is Chuuya." He supplied, explaining to his friends. Lucy ended up making another excited sound and reaching over the table to grasp Sigma's hands.
"How did you meet him?" Akutagawa asked from beside him.
Sigma sat in silence, unsure of what to say. He looked at Atsushi and the man threw him a weird look back, as if to say "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Sigma took a deep breath before telling his friends about the situation.
"He broke in through my window in the middle of the night, and I know that sounds really bad but he's a sweet guy I promise." He rushed out, his friends shared a look with each other.
"You're right, that does sound pretty bad." Atsushi laughed nervously.
"Are you sure he's a 'sweet guy?' I can talk to him for you if you want." Akutagawa said, still sipping his coffee.
"I second that." Lucy said, a bright smile on her face.
Sigma sighed, "No, none of that will be necessary. I promise I can handle myself." He searched their faces for any trace of denial, and was relieved to find none. They trusted Sigma, and he was eternally grateful that he had people like that now.
"Oh also, he's a vampire." Sigma added, watching their reactions intently. He knew they wouldn't be against that of course, but he was interested to see what they thought.
"Oh my god!" Lucy exclaimed.
"Do you think he knows Edgar?"
Sigma hummed in rebuttal. "I already asked him, he doesn't seem to. Although he mentioned that someone he knows might, so maybe there's some connection."
Lucy seemed to be lost in thought. "What did you say his name was? Chuuya? I'll ask Ed when I see him tomorrow."
"Yeah that's it, tell Edgar I hope he's well." Sigma nodded his head in respect to the vampire.
Sigma had never met Edgar himself, he isn't even sure if Akutagawa and Atsushi had. However, Lucy seemed to care about the vampire very deeply, always speaking fondly of him. She had known him for a long time, they even moved to Japan together on a business trip, so Sigma trusted him by association at least.
Before long the cafe manager came to call Lucy back to work, and Atsushi decided he should head back upstairs. Both of them said goodbye to their boyfriend, kissing him on the cheek and hugging Sigma before going back to their respective jobs.
This left Akutagawa to walk Sigma back to the casino. People often assumed that Sigma and Akutagawa didn't get along very well, due to the lack of talking between the two. However, both of them appreciated a comfortable silence for the majority of their walk. When they were almost there Akutagawa spoke up.
"Do you know what Chuuya does for work?" He politely asked. Sigma smiled, knowing that this random question was Akutagawa's way of showing he was interested in what was going on with Sigma.
"He didn't mention anything like that, although he did say it's not the safest for him to come into the city often."
Akutagawa hummed in response. "Maybe he works from home."
They turned the corner, falling into silence again. Sigma's thoughts drifted back to Chuuya once more as he listened to his friend's heels fall against the pavement in time with his own.
Once they arrived at Sigma's Casino he climbed the stairs, turning around to wave at Akutagawa when he reached the top. The black haired man waved back before turning swiftly around and heading to his agency.
Sigma greatly appreciated his friend's dedication to making sure he felt safe, and smiled again to himself as he made small talk with the customers on his way in.
Chapter Text
After another long day at work, Sigma finally arrived home. He immediately changed into a lavender sweater with dark purple pants. He usually wore business-like clothes, even at home, but he decided that today he would go with something more casual. It was a force of habit to be wearing clothes deemed as 'presentable', in case he needed to meet with anyone who needed him. Atsushi had helped him buy clothes for himself, instead of clothes that other people wanted him to wear.
He went to collect a few pieces of paperwork, filings for new regulars at his casino and debts people needed to pay off. Lucy always went on and on about how boring it was, but it made Sigma feel useful. His casino gave him a purpose. Taking these papers, he moved into the kitchen to sit at his table.
The table was round with two wooden chairs. Not too large, as Sigma lived alone. When his friends came over they usually just sat on the gray counter in the middle of the kitchen. The room wasn't too big, but had enough space to move around in freely. There were appliances and furniture lining the wall, and a small window above the sink looking out onto a bed of flowers.
The kitchen was very bright during the day, and glowed a beautiful golden colour in Sigma's favourite hour. That was his favourite time to be in his kitchen, the sun shone onto the flowers and through his window. However, he enjoyed baking and cooking there whenever he got the opportunity. It was relaxing to him, and fulfilling. To be able to create something good with his own two hands, and to share that with others.
He was humming a song that had been playing in the casino earlier in the day, it was soft and slow. He swayed his body in time with the tune as he sorted through his work. Hours went by as he wondered whether Chuuya was going to show up. They had made no agreement to meet today, nothing of the sort, but Sigma was still hopeful. He knew it was unlikely, and maybe even foolish, but a small part of him was still optimistic.
It was already dark outside, and he had finished his paperwork about 10 minutes ago. He was sitting on the same table, off to the side of the kitchen, scrolling through his friend's messages. Giggling every so often at the amount of cat puns made, or at videos that were sent.
Even so, his mind was still preoccupied with a certain red-headed vampire. His eyes kept flickering to the window for any trace of a leather jacket, he made sure to listen out for the movement of his window too. He ended up messaging his friends about it out of nervousness.
--
Sigma: Do you think Chuuya will come?
Atsushi: I'm sure he will! Don't give up hope ^_^
Ryuu: I can't believe you're waiting for somebody to break into your house.
Lucy: lighten up ryuu! this is exciting!
Ryuu: Sorry Sigma.
--
Sigma sighed, putting his phone on top of his completed papers. He was starting to get worried that Chuuya wouldn't show up at all. Not that it would matter, he'd only known the vampire for one night. If he never came back it would be fine, right? Sigma chewed his lip in frustration and decided to find something to do to ease his nerves.
Of course, he landed on baking. He decided to make some cookies, his favourite, and pulled out most of the ingredients from their home. Before he started baking them, he made some tea. Humming to himself again as he poured the hot water into a pink mug, placing the lavender tea bag in afterwards. He moved over to a shelf to grab some honey and added that to the cup, stirring it with one hand as he brushed the other through his hair.
Once it was ready he sipped it slowly, taking a few deep breaths in between to calm himself. It's okay, he thought. It's okay. If Chuuya comes back, or if he doesn't. It's fine. That didn't stop him from staring out the window though. It didn't stop him from imagining the vampire leaning against the counter, pulling him closer, biting his neck-
Sigma stopped. Reeling backwards slightly, the warmth of the mug bringing him back to reality as he blinked in surprise at his own thoughts.
"Okay." He muttered quietly, placing his mug down on the counter and reaching over for his phone again. It was midnight now. Sigma was seriously starting to lose all hope, sending another few messages to his friends in despair.
He decided to begin baking the cookies, pulling the flour toward him from its place on the counter. Then, he heard a noise from his room. He immediately left the flour where it was, sprinting embarrassingly fast up the stairs at the mere idea that Chuuya had returned. He knew he would laugh at himself later.
He raced into his room coming face to face with none other than Chuuya himself raising up the window. The vampire looked at Sigma, raising an eyebrow at his heavy breathing.
"Someone's excited to see me." He smirked, stepping into the room.
Sigma stood there blinking at the other, as if he wasn't real. In fear that if he moved, Chuuya would vanish. The vampire moved closer, waving his left hand in front of Sigma's eyes, the other behind his back.
"Hey, are you good?" He asked.
"I'm fine," Sigma said, breaking out of his daze.
"I was starting to think you weren't coming." Sigma muttered, trying to hide his excitement. Before turning on his heel and making sure to walk down the stairs softly this time.
Chuuya followed after him, the vampire was dressed in a plain red shirt and had swapped his leather jacket, that Sigma had been so fond of, for black leather pants. He had a choker, gloves and a hat, and his hair was tied in a ponytail.
When they reached the kitchen Chuuya took in the ingredients and cutlery that had been strewn haphazardly across the counter.
"What happened here?" He asked curiously.
"I was just going to bake something.." Sigma replied.
"Oh, my sister likes to bake." The vampire grinned, coming around to the side of the counter where Sigma was standing.
"When I was a kid I helped her out with these cakes she used to make for parties. I enjoyed it." He smiled at the taller man.
"I love baking too." Sigma smiled back at Chuuya, reaching down to open a drawer. Chuuya peered down at the rows upon rows of cookie cutters that it housed. There were hearts, stars, circles, squares, even little Christmas trees.
"So, you like cookies huh?" Chuuya laughed softly.
Sigma laughed too, taking out some of the heart shaped cutters and closing the drawer. He looked to where Chuuya was hiding his hands behind his back, the vampire watched his gaze and faltered slightly.
"Oh right." He muttered, bringing his hands in front of him. Presenting Sigma with beautiful pink and purple flowers as he said:
"These are for you." Sigma stared at him, his mouth dropping open slightly.
"I picked them because I thought you liked purple. And they match your eyes." He held the flowers out further, motioning for Sigma to take them.
"Thank you." Sigma stammered, overcome by emotion.
"I do love purple." He smiled, taking the gift and moving to a cupboard near the sink.
"And flowers." He added.
"Clearly." Chuuya smirked, recalling the flowers that had shone in the moonlight when he visited. Chuuya found himself wondering what they looked like during the day, he hadn't had the time to look when he had left before.
Sigma turned around, the flowers now in a vase, placing them onto the table he had been sitting on before Chuuya arrived.
"So..." Sigma started.
"Do you want to bake with me?" He smiled widely and his eyes lit up.
"Of course, hopefully I'm experienced enough for you." Chuuya teased, hands going to organise the ingredients placed on the counter.
"I'm sure you'll be perfect." Sigma replied, pulling some more things down from a shelf behind the vampire.
Chuuya felt his heart beating faster as he laughed nervously.
Sigma turned back around as Chuuya was removing his hat and then gloves, placing them on the corner of the counter. He faltered for a moment and blushed lightly as he noticed Chuuya was standing in the exact same place he had imagined him earlier. He shook his head, moving closer to place the other things down as Chuuya went to wash his hands at the sink.
"You can put your hat on the hanger if you want." Sigma said. Chuuya turned around to see him point to the doorway, where sure enough there was a hanger free next to a long white coat.
"Thank you." Chuuya replied, going to put his hat there. Sigma tied his hair up into a high ponytail and then went to wash his hands. Chuuya came back just as he was finishing, smiling up at Sigma.
"Your hair looks nice like that." The vampire said softly.
"Thank you." Sigma beamed, one hand going to his hair and brushing down it.
"It used to get annoying when I was trying to bake, so Lucy showed me how to tie it." He explained.
"I can even do braids now." He said proudly.
Chuuya laughed at Sigma fondly, hand moving to his own hair.
"More than I can do, I can barely get it into this." He gestured to his ponytail laying on his shoulder. Sigma smiled at him.
"I could help you some time, if you'd like." His eyes roaming across Chuuya's hair, planning.
"That would be great, thanks." Chuuya smiled.
A silence fell over them as they stared at each other. Sigma ended up clearing his throat and flicking his hair behind him.
"Shall we get started?"
"Of course."

Sigma measured out the ingredients expertly. He was clearly used to baking regularly, just as he had said. Chuuya found himself wondering how many times a week the human made cookies. He laughed fondly, people's little habits were extremely endearing to him.
Chuuya watched Sigma as he put together the mixture, smiling as he stuck his tongue out when focusing on the scale. As the other moved to start mixing, Chuuya stepped in, feeling as if he wasn't helping enough by just watching.
"Here, let me." He gestured for the whisk.
"Sure." Sigma handed it over, grinning.
Chuuya got to work as Sigma leant against the counter watching him.
"You said you had a partner, before." Sigma suddenly spoke up, beginning to voice a question that had been lingering in the back of his mind.
"Oh Dazai? Yeah." Chuuya replied, eyes still on the bowl.
Sigma cleared his throat, trying to hide his curiosity.
"So does he mind that you're spending time with me?" He questioned.
"This late I mean." Sigma added, trying to hint at his point inconspicuously.
Chuuya looked confused for a moment, before blinking slowly and decreasing the pace of his frantic whisking.
"He doesn't mind." Chuuya said, simply. Then realising he should probably offer further explanation he continued.
"It's not like-" He cut himself off.
"How do I phrase this?" He laughed softly to himself.
"He doesn't mind if I see other people too, and I feel the same way with him." Chuuya looked up at Sigma.
"Not that anyone else would want to put up with him anyway." Chuuya grumbled to himself.
"Oh. I see." Sigma replied, trying to hide his happiness about this discovery.
Chuuya hummed in response, going back to mixing.
"So, where do you work?"
"I work in a casino." Sigma smiled, lighting up at the thought of his job.
"From your pictures?" Chuuya asks, referencing the photo framed in the human's bedroom.
"Yeah." The human responded, smiling gently at the fact that Chuuya had paid this much attention to him.
"It's in the middle of the city, have you been before?" Sigma asked casually. Before stuttering and apologising.
"Shit, I'm sorry if that was insensitive. You said you couldn't go into the city much."
Chuuya chuckled dryly.
"It's okay."
Chuuya then stopped mixing, pushing the bowl over to Sigma with a grin.
"Done, I hope that's good enough."
Sigma peered at the dough, returning Chuuya's smile.
"That's great."
Sigma rolled out the cookie dough onto the chopping board, continuing to talk about his casino.
"I've worked there for a few years now. Atsushi helped me get the job after his detective agency helped me out with some stuff." Sigma laughed nervously.
"It was the first place I had that felt like home. At the time I was still living with Atsushi in his apartment. Which, don't get me wrong, was great. It just wasn't mine, you know?" He glanced up at Chuuya, who was watching and listening intently.
"The casino gave me a purpose." Sigma shrugged, as he handed Chuuya a cookie cutter.
The vampire took it and cleared his throat, moving closer to the human.
"I'm glad you have somewhere like that." He murmured.
"I'll have to visit someday." Leaning into Sigma as they cut the cookie dough.
"That would be nice," Sigma smiled.
"But you don't need to put yourself in danger for me." He shook his head.
"I'd be willing." Chuuya replied.
Sigma stilled.
"Huh?" He said, nervously.
"I'd put myself in danger for you." The vampire said quietly.
Sigma looked at Chuuya admiringly, as he continued to cut the dough. As if he hadn't just said what he'd said.
He cleared his throat, placing the cutter to the side and loading the cookies onto the tray.
"Anyway..." He started, turning to face Sigma again, who had been staring at him with his mouth slightly open since the vampire had spoken before.
Chuuya stopped mid sentence as he took in Sigma's state.
"Are you okay?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Did I say something wrong?"
Sigma shook his head, still staring at the shorter one of the two.
"No, I'm okay." He said. Voice just above a whisper, as if this was a secret conversation nobody but them should hear.
"That just caught me off guard, it was sweet." He explained, messing with his hands.
"I thought you'd be used to people saying stuff like that to you." Chuuya grinned, as he moved to put the tray in the oven.
"Why?" Sigma asked, eyes following the other. Chuuya turned around to face him.
"Because you're gorgeous."
Sigma felt a blush rise to his cheeks as he looked away. He wasn't usually like this, how come Chuuya's flirting had such an effect on him?
Chuuya laughed in amusement at Sigma's embarrassment and decided to keep going. He got closer to the human, dropping his voice to be soft spoken and said:
"I'm serious, if I wasn't immortal you would have killed me with your beauty." He continued smiling.
Sigma groaned, pushing him away lightly.
"That's so fucking cheesy." He grumbled, hiding his face with his hands.
Chuuya laughed loudly, showing off his fangs once again.
Sigma shook his head, moving over to his table and pulling out a chair.
"10 minutes until they're done." He announced knowingly, sitting down.
"Come over here." He motioned for Chuuya to follow.
He came and sat down on the other chair, smiling at the vase of flowers he had brought.
Chuuya watched in silence as Sigma quickly typed something on his phone, smiling, before placing it face down and turning his gaze once again to the vampire.
"Did you get blood the other night? I know that's what you came here for, sorry." He sounded guilty at the end.
"Don't worry, it's okay." Chuuya assured him.
"Dazai was willing to provide for me. Although he hates it, so I won't do it again."
Sigma nodded.
"Does that mean it's painful then?" He questioned.
"If he hates it so much, I mean."
"Oh, no." Chuuya paused.
"It's not extremely painful, some people even find it pleasurable. Dazai has just had some.. bad experiences with people drinking from him." Chuuya explained, in the best way he could without giving away too much information.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Sigma responded quietly.
"It's okay." Chuuya replied.
"He's safe now."
Sigma nodded again, softly saying; "I'm glad."
There was silence for a few more minutes as Sigma thought of how to phrase his idea.
"You can try drinking from me if you want." Sigma murmured.
Chuuya's eyes immediately snapped up from the table to meet the human's eyes.
"Are you sure? You seem hesitant, I don't want to do that unless you're completely certain."
Sigma laughed softly.
"Thank you for worrying about me, but I mean it. Maybe I'll like it." He said, thinking out loud. Followed by more blushing when he realised what he had given voice to.
"Thank you." Chuuya said, just as softly. Reaching his hand out for Sigma to take.
"Maybe after the cookies are done." He smiled, as Sigma took his hand and interlaced their fingers.

Chapter Text
Sigma walked over to Chuuya, carrying the cookies on a white tray. The vampire smiled at him as he placed them down.
"They look great." He praised, looking at Sigma who had a matching smile on his face.
"They really do, thank you for helping." He said, as he picked up one of the heart shaped cookies and began to eat it.
"No problem. I enjoyed it," Chuuya watched as Sigma ate, "do they taste good?"
"They taste perfect." Sigma sighed, closing his eyes to savour the taste. Chuuya chuckled, causing the human to open his eyes again. He pushed the tray toward Chuuya.
"Have one." He murmured through bites.
"Maybe later, I can't eat.. food on an empty stomach." The vampire explained awkwardly, averting his eyes.
"Oh right." Sigma said, chewing and swallowing the last of the cookie.
"Do you wanna do that now then?" Sigma asked hesitantly, willing Chuuya's eyes to meet his own once again.
"Only if you're still sure."
"I'm sure." Sigma waved his hand casually, not befitting the intensity of the current situation.
"What do I need to do?" He asked politely, brushing his hands together to rid them of crumbs.
"Just sit there for me." Chuuya replied, getting out of his seat and moving over to Sigma. The human blushed as he got closer and felt his palms sweating. Chuuya stopped short of the chair, thinking to himself.
"Actually, do you wanna sit on my lap? It would probably be easier." He explained, motioning for Sigma to stand up.
"Are you sure that's a good idea? I'm a lot taller than you." Sigma told the vampire.
Chuuya looked offended as he grumbled; "wow thanks for reminding me."
"Guess I'll sit on your lap instead, that okay?"
"Sure." Sigma murmured, leaning back slightly. Chuuya carefully straddled the taller one, placing his hands on Sigma's shoulders. Sigma gasped and Chuuya looked at him softly.
"It's gonna be okay, I promise I'll be gentle." Chuuya said, lowering his voice to a whisper.
"I trust you." Sigma whispered back. The thought crossed his mind that this was a surprising situation to find himself in, his life had recently become more mundane. He wasn't as used to things like this happening anymore.
Sigma was broken out of his thoughts by feeling hot breath on his skin. "You ready?"
Not trusting himself to speak, Sigma nodded weakly. He closed his eyes tight before feeling two sharp teeth sink into the right side of his neck.
The sensation was unfamiliar, it was strange, but as Chuuya had aforementioned it wasn't overwhelmingly horrible. The initial push into his skin stung but once Chuuya started drinking the blood it just felt dizzying. Sigma felt like he was floating as the vampire's hold on his shoulders became stronger. Sigma was unsure if the blood itself was giving him that strength or if it was the act of drinking that turned his grip to steel.
After about 15 seconds had passed, Sigma felt Chuuya pull his teeth out and lick the wound he had been drinking from. He leaned back on Sigma's lap, breathing heavily with blood dripping down his chin.
Sigma blinked back at him, a million thoughts running through his head. The one that he decided to voice being, "you look beautiful."
Chuuya stared at him before leaning forwards and wrapping his arms around the human, placing his chin onto Sigma's shoulder.
"Not usually what I hear after drinking blood." The vampire chuckled lightly. Chuuya played with the human's hair once again. (He was a fan.)
"Thank you for letting me do this." He whispered.
"It's no problem." Sigma whispered back.
The two stayed intertwined for a few more minutes, before Chuuya stepped off Sigma's lap and glanced at the clock.
"It's getting late, don't you have work tomorrow?" He asked, reaching to tighten the band in his hair.
"I do." Sigma sighed, placing his hands in his lap. Chuuya smiled at him.
"You should probably get some sleep." He said quietly as he reached out a hand for Sigma to take. The human took it, pulling himself out of the chair.
"You're right." He sighed again, sad that Chuuya was going to leave. The two moved towards the door as Chuuya started to put his gloves on.
"It was nice spending time with you." Sigma said sincerely. There was a fear deep within his gut that the vampire had just been using him for blood, although he knew it was silly and Chuuya wasn't like that (he hoped.)
"Likewise." Chuuya started, placing his hat on his head. "I'll see you tomorrow?" He suggested, as Sigma opened the door for him.
"I'd like that." Sigma replied. By this point Chuuya was outside. Seemingly reluctant to leave, he hung around by the doorstep. Then, he leaned in to kiss Sigma on the cheek, once again touching his shoulder gently.
"Goodnight, Sigma." He smiled, then walked away, leaving the human shocked (pleasantly so) behind him. Sigma kept the door open longer than needed, and felt the chill of the cold night sweep into his house. As he closed the door it swept out, taking all of his fear with it.

Chapter Text
When Chuuya returned to his house that night, Dazai was already sleeping soundly. A rare occurrence, and one that Chuuya smiled upon seeing. The shorter vampire removed his outerwear, placing it on a chair to the side, and changed into more comfortable clothes.
Chuuya then lay down next to his partner, turning to face him. Dazai looked so peaceful when he slept, Chuuya knew all too well that he rarely got to feel that way when he was awake. He tenderly reached out to brush soft, brown hair out of his face, then let his fingers fall away. He smiled once again, whispering goodnight to his partner, before turning onto his back to sleep.
The morning went about as smoothly as it always did. Chuuya saying no words about Dazai's peaceful sleeping form, instead teasing the taller vampire and smacking him every so often (gently). By the time he was ready to make breakfast Dazai had only half of his clothes on and shouted at Chuuya as he left their room.
As Chuuya was walking to the kitchen, Dazai ran after him, still putting on his tie.
"Why did you leave me?" He whined, trying to get Chuuya's attention as the latter opened the door.
"Because you take years to get dressed." Chuuya replied swiftly, rolling his eyes. Once they entered the kitchen they came face to face with Tachihara, sat on the counter eating toast.
"Hey guys." He said cheerfully, waving at them with his food.
"Morning." Chuuya nodded. Dazai laughed at him.
"Chuuya's always so formal." He said, causing Tachihara to laugh with him in between bites.
"Whatever." Chuuya grumbled, reaching into the cupboard to look through the teabags in there. Dazai came closer, peering over the smaller vampire's shoulder, his eyes landing on the teabag that Chuuya had decided on, presumably one of Kouyou's.
"Tea?" Dazai asked curiously.
"Yes." Chuuya responded, glancing at him.
"Interesting." Dazai hummed to himself, before turning back around to meet Tachihara's confused gaze.
"Chuuya never drinks tea, he probably has before, but every time Kouyou tries to make it for him he refuses." He giggled. Tachihara continued chewing his food in thought.
"Is it that crazy?" Chuuya asked.
"Not at all, not at all." Dazai replied, grinning, leaning to rest his head on his partner's shoulder from behind. Chuuya groaned, pushing Dazai's head away with his hand.
"You're insufferable." He said, picking up his mug and leaving the room.
"You love me anyway!" He heard Dazai shout as the door swung shut.
He made his way to the map room in search of Kouyou. When he reached it he heard his sister and someone else laughing. He was confused before he entered to see Yosano sitting on the table. The map table, Chuuya thought ironically, that he and Dazai had been scolded for sitting on many many times by Kouyou. Yet here was Yosano. He pushed the thought aside to greet her.
As he approached, the human turned her gaze from Kouyou onto him, putting her hands down next to her legs.
"Hello." He lifted up his hand in greeting.
"Hi." Yosano replied with a smile.
Kouyou turned around to look at her brother.
"Good morning, Chuuya." She said warmly. Yosano jumped off the table as Chuuya came to peer at the map.
"What you got there?" She asked curiously, peering inside the vampire's mug.
"Nothing." He tried to move it away from her smoothly. Somehow, her reflexes were faster and she held the mug in place.
"Tea?" She turned back to face Kouyou.
"Seems siblings really are alike." She laughed, before moving back toward the table. Kouyou raised an eyebrow.
"Hmm." She said.
"Chuuya's never drunk the tea I made for him before."
"What changed your mind?" She asked Chuuya.
Chuuya opened his mouth to dispute a weak defense of: "nothing, I just like tea now." But before he could do so, Dazai came skipping in through the door. He groaned.
"Can't you just walk like a normal person?" Chuuya said bluntly, silently relieved Dazai had appeared.
"But where's the fun in that?" Dazai pouted. Yosano laughed.
"Hi Yosano." He waved at her.
"Hello Dazai." She replied.
"You've met her?" Chuuya asked, surprised.
"I've met everyone, Chuuya." Dazai drawled in response. And Chuuya thought again, how does he have the time for that?
"Anyway, I'll leave you. You probably have vampire things to discuss." Yosano smiled brightly, before leaning up to kiss Kouyou on the cheek and walking out of the room.
As she was leaving Chuuya eyed her spot on the table wondering if he could get away with sitting on it now. It made him feel fifteen again, messing around with Dazai trying not to get caught. However, before he could get close to the table Kouyou shot him a look as if to say, 'don't you dare.'
"Do you have any jobs I can do today?" Chuuya asked his sister.
She hummed in thought, moving to a filing cabinet in the corner. Chuuya sipped his tea, watching her as Dazai leaned against the wall watching him. Eventually, she pulled out one particular paper and walked back over to Chuuya.
"Supposedly there's a vampire living in the city." She began to explain, pointing at the map to give them directions.
"A violent one, I need you two to go and sort it out."
"How are we supposed to do that?" Chuuya questioned.
"I don't know just do something please, it's getting out of hand with how many people he's hurting." Chuuya sighed, Dazai came over resting his hands on the shorter vampire's shoulders.
"Relax Chuuya, I've got this."
"You better." He replied, placing his mug down and dragging Dazai out of the room. Kouyou laughed at them fondly.
Chuuya was excited to go into the city, he had hoped that after his job was done he could go and see Sigma's casino. Maybe not go inside, but see it at the very least. Now that Dazai was with him, it might be more difficult.
"Okay so we find his house, then kill him." Dazai exclaimed cheerfully.
"You idiot, we are not killing him." Chuuya responded.
"You're no fun Chuuya." He pouted, jokingly. Chuuya knew that Dazai didn't really want to kill anyone, except for maybe one person.
Chuuya handed Dazai a helmet as he climbed onto his motorcycle. He was about to speak up as Dazai followed him.
"Hold on tight, I know." His partner beat him to it.
"Just wanna make sure you don't go flying off." He said, starting the engine.
"I'm not that light, Chuuya. You're so mean." Dazai pouted again, and although he couldn't see his face Chuuya could hear it in his voice.
Dazai wrapped his arms around Chuuya's waist and they started driving toward the city. They only went when they needed to do a job, there were too many complaints if a vampire was spotted. Even if they're not violent. When there were violent vampires, it just made it even more difficult to co-exist peacefully with humans.
When they arrived at a small street with even smaller houses Dazai hopped off the motorcycle, putting his helmet on the back. He held out his hand for Chuuya to take.
"The house is over there." He pointed with his other.
"I'm not holding your hand Dazai, we might need to fight." Chuuya gently pushed him away.
"So mean.." Dazai muttered under his breath.
When they arrived at the house, it was desolate. There was no furniture save for boxes in the corner, and there was mold spreading across the floor and walls. Chuuya found himself wondering when Kouyou received this report; it didn't look like anyone had been living here for months.
"I guess he's not home." Dazai sighed.
"What a shame." Said Chuuya, turning around to leave.
"Why are you excited?" Dazai seemed to teleport right to his side, poking his cheek.
"What do you mean?" Chuuya asked, raising an eyebrow, walking out of the wooden door of the empty house.
"You're excited." Dazai stated plainly.
"Why?" He asked.
"I hate that you can read me like that." Chuuya grumbled.
"Stop it." He batted Dazai's hands away and the taller one grinned.
"Come on, tell me." He persisted as they walked back to where the motorcycle was parked at the side of the street. Chuuya remained silent.
"Is it your friend?" Dazai hit the nail on the head. Chuuya smiled fondly.
"I knew you knew, why not just say so from the beginning?"
"Well that's no fun." Dazai said, coming closer to Chuuya.
"Tell me about them."
So Chuuya did. He recounted in detail his meetings with Sigma, and Dazai could see how much happiness the human brought him. He wasn't jealous; he knew that their relationship was secure. He loved Chuuya, and Chuuya loved him. If Chuuya also loved Sigma, that did no harm to Dazai.
"I wanna meet him." Dazai declared, when Chuuya had finished speaking.
"You do?" Chuuya questioned.
"Of course!" Dazai smiled, pulling Chuuya up from where they had been sitting on the curb.
"Can I meet him now? Take me to his house." Hands still wrapped around Chuuya's wrists. The shorter vampire laughed.
"I think he's probably working now." Dazai's eyes lit up.
"Does he work around here?"
"At the casino." Chuuya replied.
"Really? That sounds fun, let's go." Chuuya hummed in thought.
"I'm not sure how much he'd like it if we just showed up there."
"It'll be fine Chuuya, you worry too much." Dazai said. There was a pause as Chuuya considered.
"Okay." He said. He had been wanting to visit the casino anyway but didn't want to intrude. Dazai helped increase his confidence.
"But no gambling." He said to Dazai, who then smiled mischievously.
"No promises!" Dazai replied as he pulled him off in the direction of the casino.

Chapter Text
Chuuya felt himself getting increasingly nervous as they walked toward the casino. It was a big building with stairs leading up to the door. It had blue and purple lettering reminiscent of the night near the roof that said 'Sky Casino.'
"Funny name, seeing as it's on the ground." Dazai giggled. Chuuya scoffed.
"There's probably a meaning." Dazai hummed in agreement before leading Chuuya up the steps. They were welcomed into the building by two men who directed them into the main room.
"So where should we go first?" Dazai asked, eyes scanning the room and taking in all the people there.
"Since Sigma owns the place, he probably has an office; we should ask someone." Chuuya said thoughtfully, moving to the edge of the room, pulling Dazai with him and away from the gambling. He was less worried about Dazai spending money to gamble and more worried about him annoying one of the customers here. Chuuya really didn't want to start a fight in the middle of Sigma's workplace.
Dazai recollected himself after being dragged by Chuuya and turned to look at him.
"He owns this place?" Dazai asked, eyes lighting up.
"Yes..." Chuuya responded, furrowing his eyebrows and looking at Dazai.
"Whatever you're thinking, stop it." He said, smacking Dazai lightly on the head. Chuuya looked around for a member of staff that wasn't currently busy; his eyes landed on a man in the corner checking his watch.
"You stay here." Chuuya said, emphasising his words by pointing to the floor. Dazai rolled his eyes, still smiling in a way that made Chuuya nervous.
"Relax, I won't do anything."
Chuuya narrowed his eyes at the other man.
"I don't believe that for a second." Dazai raised his hands in mock surrender as Chuuya walked off to ask for information.
⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆
Sigma walked out of his office and into the main hall of his casino; he had just finished the necessary paperwork for the day and wanted to spend some time talking to his customers.
"Good afternoon, Sigma." The bodyguard next to his door greeted him with a nod of his head.
"Good afternoon." Sigma nodded back politely. He did a quick scan of the room and went over to a table in the corner enraptured by a game. He managed to make small talk for a couple of minutes without distracting them before one of the staff members came over to him.
"Good afternoon, Sigma." He greeted, similarly to the previous guard, with a nod of his head.
"There seems to be a man over there disrupting some customers. He came in a few minutes ago." The man explained in a hushed voice.
Sigma frowned over to where said man was pulling up a chair, sitting on it backwards, and leaning in to talk to one of the patrons.
"Do you want to deal with him, or should I?"
"I've got it, thanks for letting me know." Sigma replied.
Sigma made his way over to the table. As he approached, he could hear the man whispering so-called advice into one of the gambler's ears, smirking as he did so. He reached the table and tapped the customer on the shoulder.
"Hello, are you enjoying your game?" Sigma asked with a smile. The man in front of him opened his mouth to reply before the woman from across the table interrupted him.
"This man is giving aid to him." She pointed to the person Sigma had been talking to.
"I was just giving some friendly advice. Where's the harm in that?" The brunette said as he got up from his seat. The woman shook her head at him. Sigma turned to face the 'disruption.'
"I would prefer if you could not interrupt customer's private games." He asked, only a tinge of annoyance in his voice. Really, if someone wanted a private game, they should book a private room. However, this woman was a regular. Sigma knew her well and didn't want to displease her in any way. The man just blinked at him before gasping dramatically.
"Oh, you must be Sigma." He smiled.
"That's right. Do I know you?" Sigma responded. The man just laughed.
"No, I'm Dazai." He reached out his hand for Sigma to shake, which he did so, bewildered.
"Right... it's nice to meet you." Sigma could have sworn he recognised the name Dazai. He bit the inside of his cheek, sorting through mental files of customers and acquaintances. Right as he landed on the answer, he heard a voice from behind him.
"There you are. I told you not to go wandering off." His sentence stopped short as he took in the person standing in front of Dazai.
"Sigma." Chuuya said awkwardly. Sigma smiled at him.
"Hello, Chuuya." The two vampires exchanged looks, Dazai still smiling and Chuuya glaring at him.
"It's nice to see you." Sigma said softly.
"I presume you didn't come here to gamble?" He asked.
"We didn't. I told Dazai to stay away from anyone busy. Although, I'm not shocked he didn't listen." Chuuya answered monotonously, glaring at Dazai once again, who giggled.
"Why don't you two come to my office? I'll make some tea." Sigma offered, walking away. The two vampires followed him.
"Knew this was why you started drinking tea." Dazai whispered to Chuuya as they followed the casino owner.
"Shut up." Chuuya growled back.
"I'm telling Kouyou." Dazai teased.
"Don't even think about it." Chuuya threatened.
Sigma opened the door to his office wide, striding in leaving the vampires at the threshold.
"Why is this room so long?" Dazai muttered.
Sigma busied himself with making tea in the corner of his ostentatious office whilst the vampires stayed unsure at the doorway.
"You not gonna invite us in?" Dazai called out.
"Didn't I already?" Sigma responded.
"Besides, I know you guys don't have to be invited in. Didn't Chuuya tell you how we met?"
Dazai laughed as Chuuya rolled his eyes, the former dragging the latter into the room. They took in the elaborate design in its entirety as they walked down to sit opposite his desk.
"What brings you here?" Sigma asked as he poured tea into three white and purple cups. Chuuya noted the fact that they matched his hair perfectly with amusement.
"We were just in the area." The shorter vampire supplied, at the same time his partner responded;
"Hunting criminals." Sigma raised an eyebrow as he sat back in his seat.
"What kind of criminals?" He asked nervously.
"My friend works at a detective agency, you know. I haven't heard anything in particular about a criminal in this area." Sigma continued. Before Dazai could respond with some dramatic tale, Chuuya cut in.
"It's a violent vampire, but it doesn't look like he's been here for a while. You're safe, don't worry." He assured Sigma. Dazai didn't add anything, seemingly lost in thought. A few minutes went by as Chuuya and Sigma drank their tea; Dazai hadn't even moved to pick his up.
"I think I have an idea of where we can look." He said after a while, and the calculating look in his eyes made a shiver run down Sigma's spine.
"We'll do that tomorrow though, I've had enough of work for today." Dazai hummed with a yawn, easily snapping back to his playful demeanor from before.
"We barely did anything." Chuuya pointed out, but Dazai just yawned again, leaning back in his chair.
"Is he always like this?" Sigma asked.
"More or less." Chuuya responded with a straight face. The two fell into easy conversation whilst Dazai closed his eyes, still not touching his tea. After 10 minutes the brunette got out of his seat and began walking around the room to "examine the architecture."
Something that Chuuya had scoffed at: "Since when do you like architecture?" Sigma took no notice, focused on his discussion with Chuuya about one of Atsushi's cases. He didn't even notice Dazai looking through his filing cabinet to the left of the room.
Sigma and Chuuya were snapped out of their conversation by a crashing sound coming from where Dazai was. The two looked over to see him sitting on the floor surrounded by paper.
"What the fuck?" Sighed Chuuya quietly, moving over to where Dazai is.
"Whoops!" He said, still smiling.
"Yeah, yeah, get up dumbass." Chuuya replied, grabbing his partner's arm to haul him off the floor.
Sigma narrowed his eyes at Dazai from where he was standing before making his way over to help Chuuya pick up the papers from the floor. Sigma knew that Chuuya liked Dazai despite how annoying he seemed; he assumed the man must have some positive traits at least. However, if Sigma was being honest, as of right now he really didn't see the appeal.
"I thought you said I'd like him." Sigma whispered to Chuuya from where he was crouched next to him, glancing back to see Dazai back in his chair. Chuuya laughed quietly, reflecting on his contempt for Dazai when they had first met.
"He takes a bit of getting used to." Chuuya responded, handing files to Sigma to put away in the right space.
"More like a lot." Sigma grumbled, tapping the files against the floor to even them out. Chuuya leaned against the wall by the cabinet, watching as Sigma filed the papers into their respective sections.
"You have lots of customers." He pointed out, folding his arms. Sigma laughed fondly.
"I do. I'm very grateful." He smiled down at one of his files.
"I really do love my job; it gives me purpose." Sigma turned to smile at Chuuya as he finished sorting.
"I can tell. The information on these is very detailed." Chuuya returned the human's smile.
"I try my best." Sigma said, quieter than before. He seemed suddenly overcome with a sadness not previously present.
"I know all of the information from these files by heart. People think I'm talented at it, but I'm not. Sometimes I get no sleep because I'm up all night memorising." The human looked at the floor, avoiding eye contact. There was a beat.
"I think that's admirable." Chuuya started to speak, reaching out to lift Sigma's chin to face him.
"The fact that you do this much so you can be the best casino manager possible." Sigma started to smile softly again.
"Make sure you get enough sleep though; it's okay if you don't remember every single thing." Chuuya added gently. Sigma removed the vampire's hand from his chin, instead enveloping it in both of his.
"Thank you." He said sincerely.
"That means a lot." The two stayed like that before Chuuya noticed and muttered something, walking back to Sigma's desk. Sigma turned around curiously to where Dazai was handling his things once again.
"For fuck's sake, Dazai. You can't just go through people's possessions like that." Chuuya scolded, gritting his teeth. He reached over to where Dazai was flipping through a notebook to drag him back to the visitor's side of Sigma's desk.
Sigma quickly followed, snapping his notebook shut aggressively and glaring at Dazai.
"This is not what you do when you're invited into someone's office." The human said.
"Really?" Dazai said.
"But I used to do it in Mori's office all the time." He smiled lazily.
"That's enough." Chuuya said forcefully, freezing uncharacteristically at the mention of Mori.
Sigma stood there confused, looking back and forth between the two. They seemed to be having a private conversation with their eyes that Sigma was not privy to. After a few seconds of glaring, Chuuya sighed and turned back to Sigma.
"I think we're gonna have to go now. Sorry, Sigma." He said apologetically.
"It's fine.." Sigma said hesitantly, hand still resting on the cover of his notebook defensively. Chuuya nodded at Sigma, turning to walk away before quickly turning back to speak.
"See you soon. I'm really sorry about this jackass." He gestured to Dazai, who didn't seem to be present at the moment.
"It's really okay, Chuuya. You don't have to apologise." Sigma shook his head, smiling at the other.
"See you soon."
As they left, Chuuya's words were full of venom towards Dazai. But he handled the other vampire with extreme care as he pulled him away.
Sigma was left alone in his office, slightly bewildered by the brown-haired vampire's behaviour. He was definitely annoying, but there was more to him. Sigma couldn't quite figure it out. There was something about Dazai's calculating gaze and the way he always looked like he was planning something that reminded Sigma intensely of someone else.

Chapter Text
Chuuya dragged Dazai through the large doors to their house muttering under his breath.
"What was that?" He asked, pulling Dazai around to face him. Dazai stared back without response, causing Chuuya to swear and shake his head.
"Dazai." He repeated, snapping his fingers in front of the other. The taller vampire seemed to come back to reality, immediately smiling at his partner.
"Hey, Chuuya."
"Hello." Chuuya responded bluntly.
"What was that?" He asked again.
"What was what, Chuuya?" Dazai grinned, walking toward their bedroom.
"Cut the bullshit, Dazai. I'm serious."
"What was that stunt you pulled in Sigma's office?"
"Oh, that." Dazai hummed in thought; stopping before their door.
"Can't tell you." He smiled again, shrugging nonchalantly and entering their room.
"You're awful when you get like this."
Dazai began to undress whilst Chuuya sat down on the edge of their bed.
"You said you had an idea of where to look, can you at least tell me about that?" Chuuya asked, sighing.
"I suppose so." Dazai said, mockingly. Peeling his dress shirt off his body. Trying and failing to make sure that his bandages stayed wrapped around him. Chuuya sighed, moving over to where his partner was standing.
"I wish you wouldn't do this." He said gently, holding the bandages in place whilst Dazai grabbed a more comfortable shirt to change into. The taller vampire stayed silent. Focusing more than he needed to on changing now that Chuuya had come over to help him. After he was changed, he started talking.
"There's an orphanage not too far from here, abandoned after everyone in it mysteriously died." He said quietly. Chuuya hummed affirmatively.
"That does seem like a good place to try. Doesn't explain what you were doing in Sigma's office though." He pushed, Dazai pursed his lips.
"Just looking for information." He dragged Chuuya over to the bed, who went willingly. They lay down together; Dazai began brushing his hands through Chuuya's hair.
"I'm sorry." He said. So quietly it was barely even there, but Chuuya heard it.
"I know you care about him." Dazai continued to whisper into the red hair he was combing. Chuuya sighed, reaching his hand up to clasp Dazai's.
"What am I gonna do with you?" He muttered, bringing their intertwined hands into his lap.
"Kiss me?" Dazai asked with a smirk.
"I'm not sure you deserve that after today."
"Chuuuyaaaa." Dazai whined.
"I said I was sorry." He pouted.
"Fine." Chuuya said, twisting his body around to face his partner, gently pressing a kiss to Dazai's lips.
"Thank you!" Dazai smiled, satisfied, when they pulled away.
The two of them lay together for a while before Dazai reached over for his laptop. He sat up and began typing.
"What are you looking for?" Chuuya asked, sitting up into a similar position and peering over at the screen.
"The orphanage." He responded, Chuuya hummed again.
"Here." He announced a few minutes later, turning the screen toward the other vampire.
"How recent are these pictures? Looks pretty run down."
"Exactly. This one is from a year ago." Dazai pointed toward an image of an archaic looking building with weeds growing out of the windows. Then he clicked a few buttons pulling up another picture.
"This is from just before the people died, roughly 3 years ago."
"Let's go check it out tomorrow, then."
"Sure." Dazai shut his laptop, replacing it under their bed. Chuuya lay back down; Dazai followed immediately after.
"I hear Kouyou is planning a party soon." Dazai grinned, nudging Chuuya with his elbow. Chuuya groaned, sinking into the bed.
"Not excited?" Dazai asked.
"I can think of a few people I'd rather not see." Chuuya muttered, causing his partner to laugh.
⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆
The following morning they made their way to the orphanage after eating breakfast.
"Does anyone still own this?" Chuuya asked as he placed his helmet on the back of his motorcycle.
"Nah," Dazai replied, "the owners died along with everyone else and nobody wanted to buy it after that."
"Makes sense." They approached the large doors and walked inside.
The orphanage, if it could still be called that, was eerie to say the least. Dazai shivered and Chuuya pulled his jacket tighter around him. The space was so hollowed that you could feel the cold intensely, and everything there was freezing to the touch. The walls were cracked and the windows were smashed. Where the stone was still intact it had intricate framework. It had an ancient look to it, as if nothing had been living here for a century. Of course, it hadn't been nearly that long since it was inhabited by kids. This caused Chuuya to shudder.
There were candles lining the walls, but none were lit, and there was wax encrusted around the bottom of each holder that somebody had never bothered to clean. The ceiling was pointed and the architecture looked incredibly gothic. There were a number of red tapestries and carpets, mostly in scraps with rat bites and dust encasing them.
"This looks more like a church than an orphanage." Dazai commented, gesturing to the rows of wooden seats in front of an elevated area.
"Maybe it was, previously." Chuuya shrugged.
"What are we even looking for?" He asked.
"Anything that suggests vampires have been here." Dazai responded, blowing dust away from a book he'd picked up.
"We're not detectives, this is gonna be impossible." Chuuya muttered.
"Didn't Sigma say his friend worked at a detective agency? Maybe we should give them a call." He started flicking through the book, eyes searching the pages quickly.
"You really think he'll wanna help you after yesterday?" Chuuya raised an eyebrow.
"Ah... Good point." The two fell into silence as they continued to look around the room.
Dazai continued to dust off book after book, flipping through it quickly. After a few minutes he made a noise, startling Chuuya from where he was inspecting a broken box.
"Gah, why do they have so many bibles?" He exclaimed.
"One for each kid?" Chuuya suggested.
"Are we sure this isn't a church?" He added, standing up from his kneeling position and dusting off his clothes.
"Very sure, Chuuya. I know what I'm doing." He rolled his eyes, moving toward the stairs.
"At least one of us is confident in your abilities." Chuuya scoffed; knowing full well that he was completely confident in Dazai and his abilities.
The two of them ascended up the staircase, it was large and wooden, it looked almost regal although the banister was peeling. The red carpet continued all the way up the stairs and down the hall at the top, this was less damaged and had gold thread running along both edges. Chuuya trod carefully over where there were unturned stones.
They eventually reached the end of the corridor and entered a small room to the left. The door was rusted and heavy, Chuuya pushed it open. Inside was an infirmary with six beds lining both walls. They were stripped of any bedding, and each had a single mattress. There were bottles shattered on the floor in the corner and a shelf full of leather journals.
Dazai immediately sped up upon seeing them, jogging carefully over to the shelf. He pulled out one of them and opened it quickly. Chuuya followed suit, frowning slightly. Dazai blinked at the records in front of him before Chuuya pushed the book down.
"Are you okay to be in here?" He asked.
"I'm fine Chuuya, you worry too much." Dazai responded softly.
"If you're sure." Chuuya decided to search the cupboards for anything interesting whilst Dazai looked through the orphanage's medical records.
"Aha!" Dazai exclaimed shortly after.
"Alright, detective; what did you find?" Chuuya asked as he climbed over smashed bottles to reach Dazai's side again.
"Here." He pointed to a row full of similar logs on one of the pages.
"Patients experiencing blood loss. Started with one, then became almost ten children all at one." He kept pointing at the page to emphasise his findings.
"Couldn't that be a coincidence? Or a contagious disease?" Chuuya asked.
"Maybe..." Dazai hummed.
"Let's not rule anything out yet." He snapped the book shut and pocketed it. Chuuya raised an eyebrow.
"You keeping that?"
"Maybe we can look into the names of the patients."
"Good idea." Chuuya shrugged.
"Okay let's get out of here." He continued. Dazai nodded in affirmation and they left the infirmary, heading back down to the entrance hall.

Chapter Text
As they were walking toward the door Dazai paused, peering a stone on the floor. He walked over to it, giving it a gentle kick.
"What are you doing?" Chuuya asked. He followed his partner's gaze and squinted similarly at the floor.
"This stone looks strange..." Dazai replied.
"All of them do, this place is in a horrible state." Chuuya glanced around. Dazai tilted his head in thought, bending down to touch the stone. Chuuya folded his arms as he watched. After a minute or two of Dazai struggling with the rock, something shifted and he fell. Chuuya attempted to catch him before he plummeted through the newfound hole in the floor, but was unable to reach him quick enough.
"Ouch." Dazai exclaimed as he landed, his voice seeming to echo around the room he was in.
"You okay?" Chuuya called out, peering into the hole.
"Yeah, it's not very deep." Came the reply. Chuuya swung his legs in and jumped down, landing on his feet skillfully.
The room was about the size of a small child's. The only furniture being a desk with a few items on top of it: a candle, a pen, and a book. Chuuya walked over to the desk, flicking through the book briefly. It was completely empty, hundreds of blank pages. Dazai stood up, dusting himself off and appearing by his partner's side. In lieu of a bed, there were a few blankets placed haphazardly in the corner and a pile of clothes opposite. Newspapers were strewn across the rest of the floor.
"What is this? Is someone living here?" Chuuya asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Seems likely." Dazai replied, crouching down to look through the clothes.
"Weird..." Chuuya muttered, stepping back from the desk and putting his hands in his pockets.
"Should we take anything?" He asked. Dazai hummed in thought.
"I don't think so... We don't really want someone to know we were here."
"Good point." Chuuya grumbled.
"Okay, then let's just go back and tell Kouyou."
"Sounds good." Dazai nodded. The two climbed back up into the hall of the building continuing their discussion.
"We can have her look over the medical records." Chuuya said, leaning against a wall. Vines stuck to his hair and he jumped at the feeling, spinning around to brush them off.
"Yep, you can take them to her though." Dazai grinned. Chuuya glared at his partner, crossing his arms.
"Why do I have to do it? You're the one who-" He was cut off by the sound of footsteps approaching. The two vampires glanced at each other before moving to crouch under the shadows of the stair rail. Two men came in through the doors, both wearing white. The taller man was talking quickly to the other, gesturing about wildly with his hands.
"It's him I'm sure of it."
"And how do you know this?"
"Vibes." The energetic man replied.
The man in front groaned, cursing in what Chuuya assumed to be Russian and muttering to himself.
"What does that even mean?" He turned around to face his companion. The taller man pouted.
"How do you know this?" The other repeated again.
"He has the same hair, and that detective agency picked him up, right? I saw that kid with the white hair outside the building."
"Hm." The other man responded.
"I'll look into it."
"Yippee!" The man jumped up and spun around. Chuuya looked at him bewildered.
"Did this guy really just say yippee...?" He muttered incredulously.
"Shh, Chuuya." Dazai responded.
Chuuya rolled his eyes, returning to silence. The men that they were watching continued to talk quietly to each other before entering the room the Chuuya and Dazai had discovered previously.
The two took this as their chance to leave, Dazai pushing Chuuya lightly toward the door and the other taking the hint to sprint out. They immediately got onto Chuuya's motorcycle, and only began talking when they were a good distance away from the orphanage.
"What the hell were they doing?" Chuuya asked.
"I can't say, sounded like they were looking for someone though."
"Yeah, and they mentioned the detective agency again." Chuuya pointed out.
They sat in silence for the rest of the ride, both going over the information gathered in their heads and trying to make sense of the two men that had shown up there.
When they arrived home Chuuya went immediately to find Kouyou. When he noticed that Dazai was following him he raised an eyebrow.
"I thought you didn't wanna report back to her? I distinctly remember you saying that I could do it alone."
"It's more fun now." Dazai smiled, closing his eyes. Chuuya rolled his own.
They searched in the public rooms of the house for her, to no avail, moving finally to her bedroom instead. Chuuya lifted his gloved hand to knock on the door gently, a second after he did she called out for them to enter.
He opened the door to find her sitting on her bed surrounded by papers. Her room was a similar size to Chuuya's own, being similarly styled. She had a large queen-sized bed in the center of her room, with a wooden frame and blood-red draped curtains which were currently pulled back. There were closets lining the walls, dark wood, and various shining red decorative pieces adorning the maroon shaded walls.
"How was your outing?" She asked, putting down the paper she was reading and moving to sit on the edge of her bed.
"Good." Chuuya replied, nodding at her, pulling up a chair from against the wall to sit on.
"We recovered some medical records-" Chuuya began, and was cut off by Dazai.
"And some suspicious men." Kouyou raised her eyebrow, eyes flitting between the two other vampires.
"Let's start with the medical records." She reached her hand out and Dazai handed them over. She scanned over them as the two watched her before placing them beside her.
"Could be the result of a vampire, I'll get Yosano to take a look tomorrow." Chuuya looked briefly confused, Dazai caught it.
"Cause she's a doctor." He explained. Kouyou nodded at Chuuya.
"Yes, she's very talented." She smiled.
"Anyway, tell me more about these 'suspicious men'."
"They were dressed in white, one of them had a hat and a long braid, the other had shorter dark hair, they were talking about a detective agency, and one of them was really energetic." Dazai explained listing off traits using his fingers.
"Like you then?" Kouyou asked. Chuuya shook his head.
"More so, it was scary. One of them had a Russian accent, I'm not sure if that helps." He offered.
"Any information is good." Kouyou replied, moving the medical files to a drawer near her bed.
"Thank you, you two may rest now." Chuuya nodded and the two left the room.

Chapter Text
Chuuya wakes up relatively early in the evening a few days later, following his same routine and then dragging Dazai out of bed. They were under orders from Kouyou to gather in the meeting room to discuss the upcoming party, or ‘ball’ as she called it.
Once they arrived, most of the house’s inhabitants were already seated; courtesy of Dazai sleeping in late. Chuuya nodded to Kouyou and she began addressing everyone in the room.
“Thank you for all taking the time to meet today.” She started, bowing her head in gratitude. Dazai leaned into Chuuya’s side to whisper in his ear.
“I’m not sure ‘all’ is correct; I can see a few people are missing~” Chuuya didn’t have the time nor the energy to remember everyone living in their mansion, especially since some of them never left their rooms, but there wasn’t really a large amount. He was close with Dazai and Kouyou, evidently, and he spoke with Tachihara semi-frequently, but that was the extent of it. Nobody stood out as missing to Chuuya, the way that they did to Dazai.
“I have decided that we will be holding it on May 5th, from 11pm to 3am. Any objections?” As usual in meetings such as this one, nobody refuted Kouyou’s decision. Seeing the general consensus, she continued her description.
“You will be allowed to bring one person of your choosing. They are not required to be a vampire but I will not allow any human unknowing of what we are to be let in.” She looked around the room.
“If there are no further questions, you may all be on your way. Thank you.” She concluded. Everyone else in the room dispersed as Kouyou busied herself with more paperwork; Chuuya thought it necessary for her to take a break soon.
“I remember a strict no-human policy last year.” Chuuya thought out loud.
“Change of heart?” He asked her.
“Something like that.” Kouyou smiled.

Once they were back in their room, Dazai immediately pounced on Chuuya.
“So… you gonna invite Sigma?” Chuuya bit his lip in thought.
“I was, but we still haven’t spoken since your whole…” He gestured about with his hands. Dazai hummed.
“Well… No time like the present!”
“Really?” Chuuya raised an eyebrow.
“What if he's sleeping?”
“That never stopped you before.” Dazai said with a mischievous glint in his eye, grabbing hold of Chuuya’s hand and dragging him out the door. As they were driving to Sigma’s house, Chuuya came up with a plan.
“Okay, so I think you should hide at first while I say hi, then come and apologise.”
“Are you sure you don’t want him all to yourself?” Dazai teased, causing Chuuya to choke on his sentence.
“What are you talking about? I just think we should be careful approaching him again after the shit you did last time.”
“Okay, okay.” Dazai waved his hands in surrender.
“Hold on.” Chuuya said when he felt Dazai’s hands leave his waist.
When they arrived, Chuuya found himself marvelling at the scenery; the flowers looked as beautiful as ever. However, that didn’t stop him from becoming increasingly more nervous as he walked up the path. Once he reached the front door, he motioned for Dazai to hide behind a shadowed tree; to which the latter grinned and put his thumbs up.
He knocked on the door three times, taking a deep breath. There was a pause and some noise behind the door before it opened to reveal a shorter man than Chuuya had been expecting (yet still taller than him). The man was dressed in white, with matching white hair that he seemed to have cut himself.
“Hello. You’re not Sigma.” Chuuya said eloquently.
“Ah- That is true.” The man responded, eyes darting around. They stood facing each other in silence before the man profusely apologised and shut the door in Chuuya’s face. Chuuya stood there incredibly confused before his brain caught up with him and he recognised the man from Sigma’s walls. Before he could knock again, the door opened to reveal Sigma.
He was dressed in what looked like incredibly soft clothing, almost reminiscent of pajamas, that hung around his frame loosely. All were purple and white, as always, matching his hair that was tied half up behind him.
“Chuuya-” He started, somewhat shocked.
“What a surprise. Do come in.” He turned around to give Chuuya space to walk inside the door, except Chuuya stood still in the doorway. Whilst he was figuring out how to apologise and re-introduce Dazai, with Sigma’s close friend present, said friend whispered to Sigma.
“I thought he could come in even if you didn’t invite him.”
“Well, is it not polite to invite someone in anyway?” Sigma almost hissed back, whispering quickly.
“Are you alright, Chuuya?” Sigma turned back to the vampire.
“Yes,” Chuuya gathered himself, “Dazai is here with me, and he would like to apologise.” Right on cue, Dazai came bounding out from behind his tree, holding his hand out for Sigma to take.
“Hello Sigma, I am extremely sorry for how I acted in your office the other day. I will make sure that it does not happen again.” He shook Sigma’s hand, smiling. His smile did not seem wholly disingenuous, but Sigma felt once again as if there was something calculating about it. Atsushi, still standing behind Sigma, glanced between the three of them.
“Shall we talk inside? It’s cold out here.”
Once they were seated around Sigma’s kitchen, Dazai and Chuuya around the table and Atsushi perched on the counter that Sigma was leaning against, silence fell over them again. It was eventually broken by Atsushi, addressing the vampires.
“It’s nice to meet you. Sigma has told me a lot about you, Chuuya.” He nodded politely.
“What about me?” Dazai smiled easily once again.
“Uh… Less, but I know who you are!” Dazai hummed, leaning back in his seat. He then leaned over to nudge Chuuya, prompting him to discuss what they had come to.
“My sister is throwing a party thing soon, May 5th, I was wondering if you might want to come.” Chuuya asked, looking directly at Sigma. The human glanced at his friend before responding.
“I think I’m free. If you were to give me some more detail about this party, I might be able to make it. It would be nice to spend more time with you.” Sigma smiled. Chuuya smiled back and then felt Dazai’s gaze on his back.
“Of course, Dazai will also be there. I don’t know how much time we’d get to spend one-on-one.” Chuuya felt slightly awkward having this conversation in front of two other people, especially Atsushi, who he was meeting for the first time.
“That's…fine.” Sigma said.
“I assume he’ll be more tolerable in his own environment?” Sigma continued the conversation, as if Dazai were not present.
“I wouldn’t count on it.” Chuuya responded, causing Dazai to laugh from beside him. After a moment, Atsushi whispered something into Sigma’s ear, causing the taller human to clear his throat.
“I know you apologised, and I mostly forgive you, but may I just ask what you were looking for in my office?” Sigma addressed Dazai hesitantly.
“If it was money or anything like that, it’s okay. I’d rather know.” He shrugged.
“Just information.” Dazai shrugged.
“Surely your detective friend knows all about that.” He looked at Atsushi.
“I guess so. We usually have a warrant, though. And from what I can tell, you aren’t a professional.” He narrowed his eyes at the vampire. Dazai shrugged again, leaning forward in his chair.
“Basically the same thing, though.”
“Never mind that. What kind of information?” Sigma directed the conversation back to garnering answers.
“I’ll let Chuuya answer that.” Everyone in the room now turned to Chuuya, who wasn’t entirely sure what Dazai was talking about. However, if he knew the man as well as he did, he could take a pretty good guess.
“As we told you, we are currently investigating the case of violent vampires in the city. I believe Dazai was looking for information regarding that, although I’m not exactly sure why, maybe a client of yours?” Atsushi nodded in agreement.
“We’ve heard about that, but it’s not really our area of expertise so we didn’t take on the case.”
“I suppose that makes sense.” Sigma sighed, then turned to Dazai.
“If you had just told me this and asked me, I would have been happy to oblige.”
“Whoops!” Sigma narrowed his eyes at the man.
“So how is your investigation going then?” Atsushi asked Chuuya, smiling at him.
“Pretty well, we visited an orphanage that Dazai seemed to be suspicious of, and we have two suspects at the moment.” Atsushi’s smile fell slightly, and the two humans glanced at each other again.
“Ah… Where was this orphanage?”
Chuuya felt like he was missing something as Sigma began to glare at Dazai over his shoulder, and Atsushi looked more nervous than he had been previously.
“It was just outside the city,. Nobody lives there anymore, though. We didn’t interrupt anything.” He tried to reassure them. However instead, silence followed his statement.
“Is everything okay?” Chuuya asked carefully. Sigma looked at Atsushi, the two seemingly having a quiet conversation.
“Sigma used to live in an orphanage, and it wasn’t… the best experience.” Atsushi explained.
“That's putting it lightly.” Sigma laughed dryly. Chuuya began to apologise.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up any bad memories.”
“You’re fine, Chuuya. You didn’t know.”
“Back to the party…Could I get your number? Then you could text me the details.” Sigma suggested.
“Yeah, of course.” Chuuya replied. The two of them exchanged contacts whilst Dazai and Atsushi chatted more about his detective work.
“Atsushi, would you want to come too?” Dazai asked the smaller man.
“I’ll pass; parties aren’t really my thing. Thank you for the invite, though.” He turned to Sigma.
“I’m sure I could convince Lucy or Ryu to go if you want someone there.” Sigma hummed.
“I’ll think about it.”
Before long, Chuuya and Dazai decided to head home. Chuuya waved to Sigma before he closed the door, a stark contrast to the last parting at Sigma's house the two of them had. Maybe next time… Chuuya thought.
⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆
“Well, that was interesting.” Atsushi said, still sitting on the kitchen counter, when Sigma returned from the front door.
“Tell me about it…” Sigma responded, sitting down in the chair Chuuya had been sitting on.
“They went to the orphanage, huh.” Atsushi said, chewing his lip in thought.
“Seems like it. I don’t know why, though.” Sigma responded, leaning his head on his hand.
“Do you think… the murders could have been vampire-related?” Atsushi asked tentatively.
“We never did find a culprit.”
“I suppose it’s a possibility. They can’t have come back, can they?” Atsushi sighed.
“I don’t know.” He jumped off of the counter and walked over to Sigma.
“I’ll message Lucy to see if she or Ryu wanna go to this party, just in case.”
“I trust Chuuya.” Sigma stared at his friend.
"Plus, I assume Yosano will be there. She's a doctor; nothing bad is going to happen to me." Atsushi sighed, fidgeting with his hands.
“Okay, fine. Tell me if they respond.” Sigma relented.
“Will do! Now, you should get some sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Atsushi smiled, hugging Sigma gently and walking to the door.
“Goodbye.” Sigma waved as he left.

Chapter Text
Chuuya: Good morning, Sigma. I have some more details for you about the party, hopefully you can prepare yourself accordingly.
Sigma: Thank you Chuuya, that is appreciated :)
Chuuya: As you know, it will be held on May 5th. This will be from 11pm to 3am; I will come and pick you up around 10:30, if that's okay with you?
Sigma: That sounds good, although I am a little nervous about riding your motorcycle..
Chuuya: It’s completely safe as long as you hold on. Dazai always waves his arms around like an idiot and he still hasn’t fallen off yet so I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Sigma: Sounds exactly like the type of thing he’d do
Chuuya: You know him so well already.
Chuuya: There will be around 100 attendees, and I expect there will be at least 10 humans; so do not worry about being the only one.
Sigma: Thank you. I believe my friend, Lucy, is also attending so I shall be fine
Chuuya: Okay, good to know. I will see you then, have a good day. ♡
Sigma: You too :)

Chuuya and Dazai spent the rest of the day helping Kouyou with decorations and Tachihara with cleaning. Dazai complained every five minutes at every task they were assigned. Before they knew it, it was nearing 9pm.
“Chuuya, I am going to get ready now. I suggest you two do the same.” Kouyou called from the top of the stairs. Dazai groaned.
“I’m so glad that's over.”
“Yeah, yeah. Come on.” Chuuya dragged him to their room.
The two got changed into more formal clothing, and Chuuya began to do his makeup. Dazai took a lot longer than Chuuya to get ready, even though Chuuya had more to do; Dazai did not maximise efficiency.
Chuuya wore black pants with matching black heeled boots. He had a dark red shirt with a black waistcoat, and then his leather jacket over the top. His hair was pulled back and he was wearing his regular hat; as well as black gloves. He applied eyeliner as he waited for Dazai to be done. As he was still getting ready, Chuuya checked the clock and swore under his breath.
“I have to go get Sigma now.” Chuuya said.
“Will you be alright until I return?” He asked Dazai.
“Of course, Chuuya. Have fun.” Dazai said from the curtain he was changing behind.
As Chuuya travelled to Sigma’s house, the route had now become incredibly familiar, the time reached 10pm. It was not a particularly cold night, but the breeze was cooling on the back of the vampire’s neck. When Chuuya arrived, his knuckles barely touched the door before it was pulled open; as if Sigma had been eagerly awaiting his arrival.
“Hello, Chuuya.” Sigma smiled (he felt himself almost always smiling these days).
“Good evening,” Chuuya grinned back, “you look wonderful.” Sigma was dressed in tailored purple pants with a matching purple blazer; the blazer was unbuttoned and he was wearing a white shirt with frills underneath. He had his hair loose, cascading down his back and a white ribbon braided into the left side. His eyelids were painted with silver eyeshadow and he had purple, hanging, diamond shaped earrings. Sigma ducked his head slightly upon hearing Chuuya’s compliment.
“Thank you, as do you.” Chuuya reached out his gloved hand for Sigma to take.
“Let’s go.” As Chuuya led Sigma to where his motorcycle had been parked, he began discussing Dazai.
“When I left, he was only half-way ready.” Chuuya complained.
“I just hope he’s done by the time we get back.” The vampire reached into a bag attached to the side of his bike and pulled out a red helmet, handing it to Sigma. Sigma took it hesitantly, as Chuuya swung his leg over the seat with practiced ease.
“What about you?” Sigma asked. Chuuya turned around to look at the human over his shoulder, raising an eyebrow. His gaze then landed on the helmet he had just given out.
“Oh, I don’t usually wear one.” He shrugged.
At Sigma’s concerned face he added, “we have regenerative abilities. Not that I’ve ever crashed, but if I were to.”
“Alright then.” Sigma nodded slowly.
“Hope the helmet doesn’t mess up your pretty hair too much.” Chuuya smiled, showing his fangs, before turning back around and placing his hands on the handlebars. Sigma put the helmet on, securing it carefully, and began to mount the bike behind Chuuya. After he had settled into the seat, he was unsure on what to do with his hands. Chuuya felt the human hesitate, so reached out his own to pull Sigma closer.
“Here, put your arms around my waist- like this.” Chuuya gently pulled Sigma’s hands to meet each other around his stomach; the human tentatively leaned into Chuuya and interlinked his fingers together.
“You ready?” Chuuya asked. Sigma nodded to the best of his ability with the helmet covering his face.
When they initially set off, Sigma found it difficult to open his eyes out of fear; everything seemed to be going by so fast. He clung to Chuuya desperately; which the vampire felt and smiled at. After a few minutes, he found the courage to open his eyes.
The city lights blended together as they drove through it and Sigma watched in awe. He smiled to himself when they drove past his casino, seeing how busy it was even when he wasn’t there. After a while, the breeze became soothing. Sigma was still shaky from the nerves of riding a motorcycle for the first time, but he had to admit it was a really fun experience. He was grateful for the excuse to be close to Chuuya, and made sure to press as close to him as possible, even after he wasn’t as scared anymore.
When they arrived, Sigma was surprised at the size of Chuuya’s house. He had assumed it would be large to house the amount of people, but it was bigger than he had expected. Chuuya parked his motorcycle outside the front, along with a few other (mostly black) cars.
“How was it?” He asked, as soon as he had helped Sigma remove his helmet.
“It was more fun than I thought it would be. Thank you, Chuuya.” Sigma smiled.
“Aw, I’m glad. Anytime.” Chuuya responded.
They walked up a stone path with hedges on either side to reach a heavy wooden set of doors. Sigma became nervous again when faced with them; Chuuya reached out a hand for him to hold.
“It’s gonna be fine, don’t worry.” He gave the human’s hand a squeeze, picking up on his anxiousness. Chuuya knocked loudly on the doors and they creaked open. There was a woman with red hair, like Chuuya’s, standing towards the side of the entrance in greeting. She seemed to open her mouth to speak, before stopping herself and blinking in recognition.
“Oh, it’s you Chuuya. Come in.” She ushered the both of them inside and signaled for the doors to be shut once more. She did not seem to take notice of Sigma, which made him unsure of what to do. He stayed glued to Chuuya’s side as the woman addressed him.
“There are a few guests that have already arrived.” She informed him, to which Chuuya nodded.
“I think I’ll leave the doors open after the next guests get here.” She smoothed down her dress and turned to face Sigma.
“You must be Sigma.” She smiled at him, reaching out her hand for him to take.
“Dazai told me. I was looking for you, Chuuya.” She glanced at him.
“Sorry.” He replied, looking around the room for his partner.
“Anyway, it’s lovely to meet you. My name is Kouyou, I’m Chuuya’s sister.”
“Ah, it’s nice to meet you too.” Sigma bowed his head. She let go of his hand gently and turned back to her brother.
“I need you to find Dazai, I have no idea where he went off to.” She waved her hand around.
“Alright. Is Yosano here yet?”
“Yes, she arrived early to help me get ready. I don’t know where she is either, though.”
“Okay, see you in a bit.” Chuuya nodded, leading Sigma away to a door near the stairs.
“She seems rather stressed.” Sigma said quietly.
“A lot to organise.” Chuuya responded.
“She’s handling it pretty well, all things considered. If I had to organise all of this and deal with Dazai, I-” He cut himself off upon seeing Dazai leaning against the kitchen with a drink in his hand.
“Hey,” he called out “Kouyou’s been looking for you.” Dazai took a sip from his drink, looking Chuuya up and down before his gaze fell on Sigma. He then thrust his glass into the hand of the woman he had been talking to and approached the two of them.
“Hello, Sigma.” Dazai grinned, ignoring Chuuya completely.
“It is such a pleasure to see you again.” He entered a deep bow, taking Sigma’s hand and looking up at him. The human glanced at Chuuya, who simply shrugged.
“Nice to see you too…” Sigma replied.
“Why so hesitant? I thought we were friends now.” Dazai smiled at him mischievously.
“Anyway, gotta go.” He began, without giving Sigma a chance to reply.
“I hope you’ll dance with me later!” He called, as he dragged Chuuya out of the room. Sigma watched him go in bewilderment, the most common feeling he seemed to have whenever Dazai was around.
Dazai had the most elaborate clothing he had seen so far. It was a frilly and layered beige outfit which he paired with white heeled boots and a lot of accessories. After recovering swiftly from his confusion he realised who Dazai had been talking to before they had interrupted.
“Hello, Yosano.” He nodded to her politely. She was wearing a black suit with a gray striped waistcoat and butterfly pin.
“Sigma, hi.” She smiled at him.
“How are you feeling? First time here?”
“Yeah… I feel out of my element- but I’m happy to be here.” She nodded in understanding.
“The first time I came here I was blown away, it’s huge and everything is so red.” She laughed fondly.
“Luckily I had Kouyou to show me around. I’m not sure where your guide has gone.” Sigma sighed humorously.
“I’m sure he’ll be back. I think Kouyou needed them for something.”
“Every time I’ve tried to help her she's rejected me. Seems like she’s working them hard though.” She took a sip of her drink.
“So, what do you think of Dazai?” She asked after a few minutes.
“He’s… a lot.” Yosano laughed loudly.
“He sure is. I’ve gotten to know him pretty well though.” She sipped again.
“I think a lot of it is a facade.”
“A facade?”
“You know- like a performance?”
“Oh…” Sigma bit his lip in thought.
“I guess so, why do you think that?” He asked Yosano curiously.
“I just-” She sighed.
“Do you know where I used to work? Before I was with the agency?” Sigma shook his head.
“Atsushi has never told me anything about that.” She chuckled dryly.
“Makes sense. I used to work at a hospital, under a man named Mori.” Sigma blinked in recognition.
“Dazai too? He mentioned the name Mori before.” Yosano shivered.
“I don’t envy whatever situation you were in that warranted him to mention that man. Anyway, he was less of an employee- if you could even call me that, at the age I was.”
“He was a patient?” She looked away.
“Maybe it’s a bad idea to talk about this without his knowledge. Sorry for bringing it up, Sigma- I think you should ask him or Chuuya. Forget I said anything.”
“It’s okay, I understand.” He replied, nodding.
“I think we’ve spent enough time hiding in the kitchen, let's see who else has arrived by now.” She smiled, linking her arm through Sigma’s in an attempt to lighten the mood again.
When they stepped into the foyer, Sigma immediately spotted Lucy. He turned quickly to Yosano to inform her and she waved him off before going to talk to another group of people Sigma didn't know.
“Lucy, hi!” Sigma exclaimed, quickly walking over to his friend. Upon seeing him, she gasped.
“Sigma! Hello! You look so pretty!!” She embraced him enthusiastically. She was the epitome of pink; she wore a fluffy dress with ribbons and frills and had her hair braided with even more pink ribbon. She was the complete opposite of her best friend, whom she had come with, who was dressed entirely in black; a gothic ensemble with a lace jabot. His nails were long and also painted black, and he had dark eyeshadow around his eyes.
“Nice to see you, Poe.” Sigma shook the vampire’s hand.
“Likewise.” He responded in a quiet voice, seeming to shrink behind Lucy despite their 5 inch height difference.
“Where’s Chuuya?” Lucy asked.
“I thought I’d get to meet him tonight.” She pouted.
“I’m sure you will,” Sigma assured his friend, “I don’t know where he is right now.” As if on cue, Chuuya appeared out of another side door; eyes searching the room for Sigma. When he spotted the human, he made his way over.
“Sorry about that, Dazai dragged me away before I got the chance to show you around properly. I hope you didn’t feel too lost.” He apologised.
“It’s alright, Chuuya.” Lucy looked between the two of them expectantly, with Poe beginning to hold onto the back of her dress.
“This is my friend, Lucy.” He gestured to her.
“It is lovely to meet you, Chuuya!!” She shook his hand as if they were old friends.
“I’ve heard a lot about you.” She smiled at him.
“Good things I hope?”
“Oh, yeah.” Chuuya laughed and Sigma coughed awkwardly.
Poe then whispered something into Lucy's hair, which Sigma didn’t even think she'd be able to hear. However, apparently she did; whispering back to him and brightly apologising to the two of them. They walked over to a more secluded corner of the room, where Sigma watched Poe breathe a sigh of relief.
“So, what have you been telling your friends about me?” Chuuya asked, teasingly, smiling to show his fangs once again.
“That a handsome vampire broke into my house to try and drink my blood.” Chuuya froze, looking down somewhat shamefully.
“You’re never gonna let me forget about that, huh?” Sigma laughed softly.
“Nope.” He then interlinked their fingers once more, wishing he could feel the warmth of Chuuya’s palm without the fabric of his gloves in the way. ‘Another day,’ he thought and then his brain supplied him with a few more images of Chuuya’s hands in his hair and on his neck. Sigma felt his face heat up, blinking a little to clear his mind.
As he was doing so, he noticed Kouyou standing in the middle of the huge stairs in the foyer. She cleared her throat and tapped her glass with a spoon to signal her speech. The room fell silent and everyone began to watch her as she spoke.
“Thank you all for coming.” She spoke elegantly, bowing in gratitude.
“This is the first year that I have designated this party open to both humans and vampires. I hope you all enjoy, have a good night.” She tapped her glass again and conversation flooded back into the room.
Notes:
I have never ridden a motorbike before (although, I want to) so I looked up a motorbike ride pov on Youtube. Sorry for any inaccuracies lol.
❛ ━━━━━━━━━━━━ ❜
My inspiration for their outfits;
I don’t have references for Sigma or Yosano, I just imagined theirs😭Chuuya outfit. Something like this plus his leather jacket, hat and gloves. I imagine the shirt to have less ruffles and be smoother, with a waistcoat instead of whatever that cloaky-looking thing is lol.
Dazai outfit. Something like this, except beige or cream instead of such a clean white colour.
As always, thank you so much for reading and I'm sorry it took so long. (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ*.゚

Chapter Text
Sigma became more comfortable with the general ambience of the hall as the party continued; having Chuuya by his side definitely helped him feel more at ease.
“So, what usually happens at parties like these- I mean, what do we do?” Sigma asked curiously.
“I usually spend most of them talking to people, and then dancing with Dazai when the music gets louder and he crawls out from whatever dark room he went to hide in.” Chuuya recalled.
“Dazai doesn’t like these?”
“He likes them more than me. He just has a habit of… disappearing.” Chuuya muttered.
“Oh, I see.” Sigma replied, thinking about the brown-haired vampire.
Out of the corner of his eye, Sigma noticed a person with dark hair walking up the stairs to his right. As they turned around to look at the person behind them, Sigma blinked in confusion.
“Huh…” He thought out loud.
“What’s wrong?” Chuuya asked, following his line of sight. Sigma shook his head and turned to the vampire.
“Nothing… I just thought I saw someone I knew.” When he turned back around to double-check, they were gone. Sigma blinked at the place they had been on the stairs nervously. He shook his head once more, in an attempt to clear it, and took a deep breath.
“Alright.” Chuuya squeezed his hand in support.
“I’m going to have to talk to other people now, but you can stay with me, if you like.” He offered.
“Yes, please.” Sigma confirmed, relieved at not being left alone again.
Chuuya led him over to make small talk with a group of vampires dressed in blue. Sigma noticed that they stood out against the deep red of the house, leading him to wonder about his own aesthetic choices. He realised that Chuuya was very good at polite small talk; he assumed that he had grown up surrounded by such settings, so had grown accustomed to the environment. Much unlike Sigma himself, he had not found himself in formal settings, such as these, since he was young and had been forced to attend church with his orphanage.
He was broken out of his thoughts by Chuuya bidding farewell to the vampires in blue and leading him over to another group of people. After they had been talking for a few minutes, Sigma began to feel uneasy. His hold on Chuuya’s hand tightened, and he scanned the room quickly. His gaze swept to the dark corners of the walls, searching for the object causing his distress. He almost began to relax, feeling he was in the clear, when he saw them. Deep purple eyes bore into his from behind a pillar; the man was holding a glass of wine and smiling at him. Sigma felt his heart rate quicken and his mouth grow dry. He began to tap Chuuya whilst keeping his gaze fixed on the pillar he was being terrorised by. However, when he blinked, the man was gone.
Chuuya turned to him curiously, inquiring what was wrong, and the other people in the group watched him in silence. Sigma breathed deeply, trying to calm himself down.
“Nothing…” Sigma replied quietly. He let go of Chuuya’s hand.
“I’ll be right back…” He said hurriedly and moved swiftly through the nearest door he could find as Chuuya watched him worriedly.
When he entered the door, he shut it quickly behind him, leaning back to rest against it. Still breathing heavily, he clenched his fists, trying to make sense of what he had seen. The room he was in was pitch black, and, having come from a well-lit room, his eyes had not yet adjusted to the dark. He heard something shift to his left and held his breath, bracing for some kind of impact.
“Boo.” He heard, and a lamp flickered on. He let out a sigh of relief seeing Dazai perched on a stack of boxes next to the door.
“Not liking the party?” Dazai asked mischievously.
“I could ask you the same thing.” Sigma replied, narrowing his eyes at the vampire.
“Did you hide in here just so you could scare me?” The human scolded.
“Don’t be silly…” Dazai laughed.
“How could I have possibly known you would run in here? It was just a lucky coincidence!”
“Yeah… Lucky…” Sigma unclenched his fists and leaned more comfortably against the door as Dazai grinned at him.
“So, why are you in here then?” Sigma asked, as if he were accusing a child of eating something they shouldn’t.
“That's for me to know and you to find out.” Dazai continued to grin.
“Whatever, I know you’re not going to tell me.” Sigma muttered. There was a pregnant pause as neither one of them spoke.
“Did you see anyone with purple eyes and black hair out there?” Sigma asked hesitantly; it came out a little rushed, and he cursed himself for it. Dazai raised an eyebrow.
“I’m not sure… We have a lot of guests. This is intriguing, though; do tell me more.” Dazai rested his head on his hands.
“It’s nothing… I just thought I knew him, that's all.”
“It’s possible,” Dazai shrugged. “I’m sure you get a bunch of people at that casino of yours.”
“Yeah…” Sigma trailed off. There was another uncomfortable silence that seemed to stretch for hours.
“You don’t wanna go back out there? I’m sure Chuuya is wondering where you went.”
“You too, then.”
“Ah, but what would Chuuya think if he saw us both coming out of this dark closet…” Sigma levelled the vampire with a glare, and he put his hands up in surrender. Dazai returned to a more serious demeanour, attempting to acquire information.
“This person you think you saw… Were they someone special to you?” He asked.
“No... Nothing like that. It’s someone I’d rather never see again.” Sigma sighed. Dazai hummed.
“I see.” Sigma glanced up at the vampire; he was still sitting on wooden boxes, staring down at his feet. Sigma decided it was his turn to get information out of the other.
“Yosano told me you were a patient for some doctor.” He watched as Dazai froze for a second before returning to his jovial persona.
“She did, did she?” Sigma didn’t reply, waiting for him to continue.
“And…?” He prompted.
“What, you want to know more?” Dazai raised an eyebrow again.
“And here I thought you only cared about Chuuya…”
“Has anyone ever told you you are impossible to talk to?” Sigma groaned.
“Once or twice.” Dazai grinned, showing his fangs. He became quiet.
“I was a part of a vampire experimentation program.” Sigma didn’t have time to respond before he was smiling and hopping off of his boxes.
“Alright, I better get back out there. Remember to come find me for a dance later.” He winked and left out of another door Sigma hadn’t even noticed was there. He stood in the room alone, mouth open with the beginning of a response on his tongue. He sighed and rubbed his face in exhaustion before opening the door and stepping back into the main hall. As he was searching the room for Chuuya, he spotted another, much more welcome but not less confusing, familiar face. He stared straight at Akutagawa’s sibling talking with the blue vampires from earlier. Before he was able to fully question this, Dazai came skipping towards him.
“Found you~” He said in a sing-song voice.
“You literally just saw me??” Sigma asked, bewildered.
“Yeah, but now the music is starting; let’s dance!” Dazai grabbed ahold of Sigma’s hands and began pulling him to the centre of the room.
“I…I don’t know how to dance.” Sigma said, awkwardly holding onto Dazai’s hand and shoulder.
“You can’t be any worse than Chuuya!” Dazai giggled.
“I feel like you’re lying about that.” Sigma faced him with a deadpan expression.
Dazai hummed along to the music, moving more gracefully than Sigma had ever seen him before. It seemed as if the music possessed his body; his movements were elegant, and his limbs seemed to flow in their movements.
As he was being whirled around by the vampire, who had by this point closed his eyes, he spotted Chuuya at the edge of the room, standing, not dancing. When their eyes met, they both smiled, and Chuuya waved at him. Dazai continued to drag and spin Sigma around for the duration of the song. Once it had ended, the two made their way over to Chuuya.
“You seem to be having fun.” He smiled at them.
“I suppose.” Sigma replied, glancing away. There was a pause as the human noticed that their hands were still interlinked; he pulled his away quickly as Dazai laughed softly into his hand. Chuuya laughed fondly at the both of them before offering his own hand to Sigma once again.
“You up for another dance?” He proposed. Sigma hesitated.
“Don’t you two want to dance together?”
Dazai grinned. “We have plenty of time for that later.” Chuuya rolled his eyes and took Sigma’s hand in his.
“Let’s go.”
As he danced with Chuuya, Sigma found himself having a much more enjoyable time. Although he couldn’t completely shake the fear of what (or who) he had seen, he was able to put it to the back of his mind and relish the atmosphere of the party. He laughed more openly as Chuuya spun him, feeling more comfortable with the idea of dancing as he continued to do so. Dazai watched the two of them with a soft smile, sipping some kind of drink from the glass Chuuya had been holding.
Once they had finished dancing, many of the guests began to leave, and the three of them sat on the stairs. Kouyou was at the door with Yosano, thanking the people for coming. After a while, Lucy came over with Poe behind her.
“Hi Sigma.” She gave him a smile and smoothed her hair down.
“Did you know Gin was here?” He asked her curiously.
“Gin? They are?” She looked around the room trying to spot them.
“I’m not sure if they’re still here; I saw them earlier.”
“I am very confused, but I will worry about that later; Poe and I are going home now, Sigma. Bye-bye!” She blew him a kiss as Poe bowed his head slightly, and they both left.
“So,” Dazai began, “did you have fun in the end?” He asked Sigma. Sigma smiled softly.
“I did.” He replied before turning to Chuuya.
“I’m sorry I ran away earlier; I saw something that frightened me.” Chuuya waved his hand in dismissal.
“It’s no problem; don’t worry about it. Mind if I ask what you saw, though?” Sigma glanced at Dazai, who was not looking at him. Deciding the vampire would probably tell his partner anyway, he decided to divulge.
“I thought I saw someone from my time in the orphanage, but he’s not supposed to be in the country anymore, so…” Chuuya bit his lip in thought.
“Strange.” He replied.
“Yeah…” Sigma trailed off, staring at the door. Chuuya followed his gaze.
“Would you like me to take you home? You’re probably tired.” He offered. Sigma tried and failed to stifle a yawn.
“That would be nice, thank you.” As they were walking away, Dazai called out.
“I’ll be holding you to that dance later, Chuuya, dear.” Chuuya rolled his eyes and called back.
“Whatever, dumbass.”
Notes:
I was thinking about doing a chapter set in the past, focusing on Sigma, would you guys like that or would you prefer I keep it in the present? Let me know!!
I was listening to the vanitas no carte OST whilst writing this (I love vnc); I specifically imagine this one, at the ball - Yuki Kajiura, to be being played when they dance ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶
