Chapter 1: - A Stranger In The Library

Chapter Text

Pulling the bag from a wolf's mouth, Razor makes his way down the well worn path from Wolvendom. Taking in the dark forest, there were birds singing, butterflies fluttering around, and animals running about. For as dangerous people said it was, this was Razor's home and where his lupical lived. As the trees start thinning, Razor turns and waves goodbye to the wolves, as always walking with him until the end of the forest. Tracking down the path, Razor rummages in his bag for his notes from his last lesson with Lisa. Over Razor's time as Lisa's student, they had grown very close. Lisa even recently gifted him a bag to hold out all of his school materials.

This time, while entering the gates, Razor saw even more hustle and bustle than usual. More decorations being hung from buildings, more flowers leaving a sweet scent in the air, and many more people. The bustle and background murmurs were all quite different from Wolvendom and the small hunting villages around it. Or even to what the city is like most of the time. Razor continued walking his way toward the Knights of Favonious building while observing all the surroundings.  Not really knowing what the occasion was, Razor continued walking. More than happy to leave the bustling crowd in favor to Lisa's quiet library.

The farther Razor got, the movement there was, most of the noise coming from the main street, at least for now. Taking one last look, before walking up the stairs and entering the building. Walking into the library Razor turned his head towards Lisa's desk where she was sleeping, one hand propped against her face sitting up. Coming closer Razor nudged Lisa awake, “I've been waiting for you pup,” getting up Lisa walked to Razor's unofficial desk. “Because of the upcoming holiday many people are celebrating by spending time with their loved ones. So I have decided that we will be learning about Windblume!”

Sitting down Razor got out a paper and quill, and was ready to listen intently. Wheeling over a board Lisa started drawing a diagram. Turning to face Razor “During this time of year people decorate the streets and their homes with wreaths, banners, ribbons, and more.

“Traditionally people spend this time with their families and giving them gifts. In cases of more complex gifts the gift-giver by tradition is to make it all completely by themselves. All to show their great love for the person. But that is just one of the many Windblume traditions and it can vary from family to family.”

Sitting attentive, Razor waited for Lisa to hand him his new learning material,

“That should do it for today, our next lesson will be cut short for a small shopping trip. How does that sound pup?” giving  Razor a kiss on the cheek she waved him off from the library.

After a long day of learning Razor mulled over the words Lisa left him with. Razor himself may not have any traditions, but did his parents have any of their own? Thinking back to the Dandelion wine safely stored in the Library. Razor was left wondering.

He had never really missed his human parents, his lupical being all hes ever known and needed.

Nice days were common in this time of year, but what was uncommon, was for a certain forsaken adventurer to not be out on these days. That is why Razor was currently making his way to the city, overhearing overhearing from some hunters that Bennett had gotten himself in some more adventuring troubles. Thankfully they had the Travel to help mitigate the whole ordeal, but as usual Bennett had still gotten himself a visit to the cathedral.

“Oh! Hi Razor! Bennett's just down the hall and behind the left door,” Barbra greeted him with her smiley demeanor.

Walking in Razor saw a nun checking over Bennett, the nun gave a vial to Bennett that he downed. Making a sour face Bennett then notices his friend. “Razor!”

Walking over to take a seat next to Bennett, “Bennett’s luck got him hurt again?”

“Its all good, just passed out. I had the traveler with me so no need to worry. They told me to take some medicine and rest and then I should be good to go!”

“Ok I'ma get some rest! Razor watch over me while I sleep, the quicker I go to sleep the quicker I can be out of here!” With vigor Bennett flips round to sleep, but as much as the boy said he would settle and unwind Razor could see Bennett squirming under the surface.

“Augh! I cant fall asleep! I just have to tell you how amazing my adventure with the traveler was!” Bennett then recounts his days events with great enthusiasm and sound effects.

I'm just so excited to get back out here! You think Fischl has any new domains that need exploring!”

“Bennett need to slow down. Bennett excited. And comes back hurt again,”

“I know your right but I just cant. I'm just itching for another adventure already! Anyways anything new with you?”

“Razor came here, lots of people doing deco-rating stuff. Lots of flowers. Lots of color. Lots of cloth hanging.”

“Oh yea!, Windbloom is coming up isn't it! Man, I'm super pumped! My dads and I always go and spend the day having loads of fun!”

By the time Razor left the sun was beginning to set. Making his was down the numerous stairs. While crossing the bridge leaving Mondstadt City the smell of something burnt could be smelled through the air. Looking over to the beach a group could be seen, something out of the ordinary but nothing too strange.

Razor had never celebrated Windblume before, having kept largely to himself until only a couple years ago, but even then Razor would make an effort to avoid people as much as possible.

Razor didn't really know when he started becoming more open to people, it happened gradually over time. But if he had to say he would say it started with Varka, he was the one who introduced him to the knights, and how he met Lisa. Although he didn't really become her student until a bit later. Varka was also the one to introduce him to Klee, even if Razor didn't want to at the time. That was probably his point of no return to his total recluse life style, looking back on it Razor would never change a thing.

Razor was then pulled out of his thoughts by the licking of many of the new wolf pups, picking them into his arms he cradled them and tucked them closer to his body, his eyes fluttering shut he drifting into a peaceful sleep.

Razor had found himself dragged out of the library, having his lesson cut short by a impromptu shopping trip with Lisa. As well as with Mika, a younger knight Lisa had just introduced to him.

On their way there they could hear a bummed adventurer, their one and only, Bennett.

“Are you sure there's no new commissions.”

“There are no new commissions available during this time, please come back at a later date.”

“Cutie!” Lisa called out to Bennett.

Turning is head the adventures face brightens once more, swiftly making his way over to them.

“Hi Lisa! Hi Razor! And who’s this?”

“This cutie right here is, Mika, he is part of the Knights of Favonious, working in the Reconnaissance Company.”

“That's so cool! What do you usually do there on the job?” Bennett keeps going with his enthusiastic questions until an old friends runs into them. “Traveler, Paimon! How’ve you been!”

“We’ve been doing pretty well.” Paimon responds.

“You look surprised, cuties. Is it because of me?” Lisa asks.

“Teacher is. . . not at the usual place.” Razor responds to Lisa.

“Oh please, its not as if I'm glued to the chair. I like to get out for a little fresh air every once and a while.” The group continued talking until Paimon got to why they really came over.

“We’ve been busy investigating a prophecy.”

Immediately that caught Bennett’s attention, “A prophecy! What kind?”

“A good one, or a bad one?” Mika interjects. Then Paimon proceeds to fill them in on everything they had gathered so far.

“Gosh, that all sounds quite fascinating.” Lisa says with intrigue.

“Yup! But don't worry you don't have to give us your response right now! We’ve set up a box where you can drop off a letter response, so no need to rush!” Paimon assures them. And with that Paimon and the traveler leave to find the others they were looking for.

After their encounter they continue on, many people bustling around. With Lisa talking to different vendors while Razor held her basket. While she did, Razor himself was observing peoples selections, mulling over what he  should get Lisa for Windblume. There were several perfume sellers, but Razor hated the overpowering scent of those. He could get roses from Flora, but those would eventually wilt.  Also keeping in mind all the mora he'd collected from the odd jobs the knights would sometimes do or from the hunters in Springvale when he helped on their hunts. Too many options and not enough time, he’ll think about this later.

Bennett tugged at Razor’s jacket signaling that they were moving to another stall. Bennett kept his conversation with the timid Mika. That had always been a great skill Bennett inherently had, always being able to talk to people and make them smile. Something Razor was amazed, maybe one day he could make people feel as welcomed in his presence as they did in his.

“I have one more thing I'm looking for, but how about you boys wait for me at Good Hunters?” So the trio of boys made their way into the crowd, and Lisa went off to find the perfect gift for Razor.

Collei and Sucrose had found their teachers and had asked them to write their own response to their mystery riddle. Making their way out-

“Big brother Albedooo!” could be heard before the person yelling could be seen. The thumping of steps could shortly be heard and a short girl stumbled in her attempt to not knock into Collei and Sucrose. Finally, crashing into Albedo’s legs. “Albedo lets go play!” Looking up with her big doe eyes. “Oh! Who are you! My name is Klee! Are you brother Albedo’s friends?”

“Hi Klee, my name is Tighnari.”

“And I am Cyno the Adventurer.” Cyno said while striking a pose.

“Cyno would you quit it with that made up title.”

Giggling Klee looks over to Cyno, then whispers something into Albedo’s ear.

“Hmm, you do have a point Klee. Before we go play now? I could hear you from the entrance, and you know the rules about volume in the library.”

“Miss Lisa always says that the Library must be kept quiet, and there is no running either.”

“Good, now we can play.” That brought a change to Klee’s attitude as she went against the rules she just got reminded of as she pulled Albedo by the hand enthusiastically and rambles about her game plan.

Cyno waved good-bye to Albedo, Klee, as well as Tighnari. He stood there for a while. Eventually, he decided to look for a book and do some reading while waiting for Lisa to return. Sifting through the various section and skimming the shelves Cyno eventually finds a book and took a seat.

After some time Cyno heard a familiar voice, and taking his nose out of the book he was reading.

Returning with hands and arms full Razor places them on the library tables. “I’d say that was a pretty successful haul, wouldn't you say pup?”

Nodding, Razor takes a seat amongst the items and puts his head down. “That must have been quite too much for you. Take a break, and then we can get to writing alright?” Lisa says giving him a pat on the head.

Then, somebody could be hear making their way up the stairs. Lisa turns around expecting a usual library patron. “Please sign your name, date, and book title into the ledger before checking out a book.”

Fully ascending from the stair case was a white haired man who seemed to be a out-lander.  “I found a book I really gravitated towards, it was impossible to put down.” Cyno said.

“Ahahaha! I wouldn't have thought I would see you here, Cyno.” Lisa said amused. This made Razor look up in curiosity.

“Teacher?” Razor

“This is an old friend of mine from school.

“Ah, Hello. . . I am Razor.” giving a small wave then busying himself with putting away the gifts Lisa had bought.

Razor then also gathered the stationary materials for writing. Sitting patiently, Razor waited for Lisa and this new stranger conversation to end, but after an even longer while Razor began to doubt that they would get around to writing the letters at all.

“Since the traveler also asked for a response from you to how about you join us?”

“Its fine, I’m still thinking of a proper response for the traveler.”

“Aw, but work is always better with friends. It could have been just like old times.”

They sit around and write their letters. Razor taking the seat next to Lisa’s. With the stranger sitting across from them simply observing.

Razor goes through paper after paper, writing, then crossing out, and repeating.  Grumbling Razor hunched over in his chair. Only after several minutes Razor scooted his chair closer to Lisa’s. “Teacher writes Razor’s letter? Razor not very good” he said passing over his crudely written response letter.

And so Lisa took a new sheet of paper and wrote, in more legible hand writing Razor’s words. Elegantly dipping the pen into the blank ink and making the pen dance on the paper, with the plume swishing in motion like a dandelion seed being taken by the wind. And just as quickly as she started Lisa was finished, that being their last reply for the traveler.

Taking a look at the stranger that had chatted up with Lisa, they seemed to know each other for a long time. While weary of this new person, they couldn't be that bad if Lisa seemed fond of them.

Wanting to leave the presence of this new stranger Razor takes his and Lisa’s letter and leaves the Library. Then he makes his way down the Favonius Headquarter stairs and passes the fountain. Making his way through all the small back allies and finally making it to the main square where the alchemy table was, and depositing his letter.

Offering to take the stationary materials back to Lisas’s deck, Cyno made his way to the upper level of the library. Looking at the librarian's desk Cyno raised an eyebrow “are there always this many things scattered around it? It looks like a sumpter beast ran through it.”

Lisa walked over to her desk shoving everything off to the side to make more room for the new addictions to her mess. Placing them down Cyno takes a step back, his foot knocking into the mess that had grown off her desk and resided on the floor. Looking back at what his foot knocked into Cyno seeing that he popped the lid open bent down to close it.

Making sure he wasn't about to crinkle some of Lisa's many papers, instead finding a hand puppet and some colored string along with other trinkets. A wave of heartache and nostalgia washed over him. A bittersweet memory of being back in the desert mending stuffed animals and taking care of "someone". Promptly closing the box before he could think any deeper about the memories he had left behind buried in the sand.

Chapter 2: - A Watchful Eye

Chapter Text

Even with Cyno’s thoughts swimming: drowning, at the infinite speculation and rationalization of the box and its contents: mostly its contents. Regardless, Cyno had a lengthy lighthearted conversation with Lisa. Just catching each other up on their lives as well as the lives of their graduate classmates. Lisa even brewing them a hot pot of tea for the occasion.

Throughout their chat many people had passed by then, so nothing was amiss when just another pair of heels seemed to pass by. That was until, suddenly, Cyno felt a hand tousling his hair.

“I'm glad you both are still here.” Jean said making her way to Lisa's desk. Moving her hand to ruffle a familiar tuft of platinum hair. Only, it wasn't who she was expecting when they turned to look at her. . . “Oh! My apologies, I thought you were someone else.”

“Unfortunately our little wolf pup left a while ago,” Lisa said with a pout on her face. “Are you looking for him?”

“I came here to give you both your gifts. I suppose I'll have to give him his when we all get together.”

“At your house again right?”

“Yes, and before I leave, here's a little something for you.” Jean bends down to give a quick peck on Lisa’s lips. “Please tell Razor about the get together next time you see him will you?”

“Will do~.“

Interested Cyno says “smells nice, what is it?”

“Let's see. Ooo, It's a new blend of rose tea. How thoughtful.”

“I guess that makes her your best-tea. I remember back in the Akademia those coffee houses were more like coffee homes to you. I'd even argue that you were there more than your own dorm.”

“Well, that was long ago. Besides, shouldn't you be thinking of gifts to give your Tighnari, if you really want to immerse yourself in Mondstadt’s culture.”

Coming out of the Cat’s Tail the smell of cooked fowl came from right around the corner. Having built up an appetite from battling many opponents in Genius Invocation. A new day, new victories, and now a satisfactory victory meal.

Making his way up the stairs Cyno wanted to bring some for Tighnari too, wanting to share Mondstadtian food with him. Good Hunter, that is where the mouthwatering smell was coming from.

Sitting down and waiting for his order Cyno observed the main street of Mondstadt City. To his right stall vendors calling out, kids running about, and bards singing near the central fountain. To the left cats sprawled out drinking in the midday sun and an ever lively adventure guild as you walk in. It was always nice to know that this is where his mother had grown up. Somewhere just as free spirited as told in her stories of Cyno’s youth. It was no wonder that his mother had become an adventure with the winds being a comfort of home leading her to her next destination anywhere she went.

Turning his head back be startled to be sharing his table with a green bard. The stranger having a lyre in hand gently plucking the strings.

“No matter how far seeds fly
They’ll always be from their Mondsadt home
Here their roots forever lie
Despite how far they may roam.”

“This is the time of year where many children of Mondstadt come back for the holiday. There are also many people just coming to visit. I wonder, which one are you.”

“I am a great adventurer, here to relish in a foreign culture.”

“Many people from Mondstadt find an adventurer's life the ideal. Whether they adventure near or far though, that is for them to decide.” The bard seemingly giving a knowing look to the “adventure”.

“Order number five!”

Taking the food Cyno turns, consequently seeing that the bard was gone. Not even a feather left behind or light footstep to have been heard. Comparable to a passing breeze, leaving as quickly as they came.

While nothing was directly wrong, the encounter with the bard was not the average drunken verses. Cryptic messages was something Cyno had his fair share with in his line of work. But he guesses there is not much difference between a poem and a cryptic message. Through his thoughts he sees a certain silver haired boy. Curious to see what the student of Lisa’s would be up to.

The fact Lisa took the boy under her tutelage piqued his interest. Lisa during their school days occasionally expressed her qualms with the Akademiya structure and way of doing things. Herself not wishing to continue that way of schooling after graduating herself. So Cyno found it odd that she took someone under her wing now. With that intrigue Cyno followed him down the street.

Completely spent from another day of learning Razor just had one more thing he needed to do. Razor often helped the Springvale hunters during their trapping. It worked out for the best, the hunters not hunting too much, Razor helped them avoid wolf territories, and they all got a mutual respect for one another. Now whenever Razor passed by he wouldn't be met with reluctance. On top of all that Razor even got a cut of the money. The hunters claimed, because he helped, he deserves a part of the profit as well. So, Razor was going to do just that: collect his mora. Walking through the crowded central market Razor makes his way to the hunters' stall.

Razor after being an accomplished hunter knows when he himself is being watched. But he couldn't see where it came from being surrounded by too many shoppers. So Razor collected his cut of the hunters profits as left through the city gates as swiftly as possible.

“Thank you for buying from Flora’s Shop, come again soon!” the young vender told him.

Looking at the Cecilia, Windwheeel Aster, Lamp Grass, and Callia Lilies in his arms and seed packets in his pocket Cyno left the busy market. Between the mysterious bard, people watching, and warm food waiting in a bag, it was time to go back to Tighnari. It was only the beginning of Cyno the adventures journey after all.The mysteries surrounding him still had time to unravel.

Knock Knock “General Cyno.” He announced himself.

A moment passed before “Come in.” Upon permission Cyno opened the hardwood door. There, the Acting Grandmaster sat at her desk, lit by the giant windows overviewing the streets of Mondstadt. The books lining the walls, dust being caught in the light coming through the windows. Jean laying down her quill, giving Cyno her full attention. Standing firm Cyno spoke.

“ I would like to request to have access to Edith and Sudhir Rai’s case file.”

Hello wonderful reader!!!
I have decided that as much as I would like to keep posting on a schedule-ish as a first time author and someone who doesnt have a lot of writing experience outside outside of school essay's I will be posting more irregularly. Because I find trying to post and still be proud of the ch that I post difficult and I would rather give quality over quantity<333
