Chapter 1: The begining

Chapter Text

Xelqua sat in the black void-like room. The only light came from the many screens surrounding him. There was one big screen in the middle which was used for selecting which server the watcher wished to see. The other screens could change size and multiply if needed, they were used to watch the players and other places on the server.

Xelqua raised his arms above his head and stretched out his big purple wings. At the top was a deep purple but it faded to a lilac colour at the bottom. The feathers were well kept because he had nothing else to do but watch. He would get bored of watching easily. Today was just another day mindlessly looking through servers.

There was one server that caught his eye. Out of all the hundreds of servers only one had got him interested, Hermitcraft. It was a server that has been going on for a long time. Many other servers had serious wars and things along those lines, but Hermitcraft was more jokes. They would pull pranks on each other, make minigames and just have fun. Xelqua wished he could join them with their pranks.
From the short amount of time, he had watched them, he had already become attached to the players. This was one of the only servers not touched by watchers because of one player, Docm77. Every watcher is told about him, it one of the first things they tell you about.

Docm77 is like an urban legend to the watchers. A story they tell new watchers to scare them into training. Xelqua never trained because they turned him, so he won’t give them the satisfaction of gaining a new watcher. He knows what watchers can do but he doesn’t know how to use his powers.

Xelqua looked up at the screen in front of him and chose to watch Hermitcraft or more specially GoodtimeswithScar -also known as Scar-. Scar was part Vex and Part elf. Xelqua found watch Scar to be quite fun. This season he was going to make a giant theme park. Xelqua has always admired Scar’s terraforming skills, he could make beautiful mountains and rivers all by hand.

Scars cat Jellie was also one reason why Xelqua watched him a lot.

“Xelqua” a loud masculine voice called out form the void and Xelqua only turned away and continued trying to find a new sever to watch. “You can’t ignore me forever” the voice called again. Wings flapping could be heard behind Xelqua. “You are a watcher. You need to train” The voice demanded louder.

A pale hand grabbed Xelqua’s shoulder and spun him around. The owner of the voice stared Xelqua in eyes. “STOP BEING STUBBORN AND TRAIN” the watcher called again, its voices being distorted and having a more feminine voice in the background.

Xelqua only stared at them; this annoyed the watcher. When Xelqua opened his eyes again he rested his hand on his cheek. It stung a bit. Watchers were much stronger than mortals and had a higher pain tolerance. So, a watcher slapping you will only sting for a watcher but will hurt a lot more for a mortal. “If you don’t train, I will make you regret it” The feminine voice hissed as a threat.

Xelqua moved away and looked up at the watcher. “I will not train to be a monster like you” He hissed. “You were always the wrong one” it responded. Xelqua had always been different. Watchers are an entity with two separate people in one body. They were referred to as soulmates. Xelqua never had a soulmate, he has always been alone.

The watcher walked over to Xelqua with its arm extended. He was about to stand up when a hand grabbed his face, covering his mouth. The hand -which belonged to the watcher- pulled his face to its face. Its left hand grabbed his dirty blonde hair and pulled his head back. The watcher began to repeatedly hit Xelqua’s head against the ground after taking away its right hand.

Suddenly, something wet dripped down Xelqua’s face. He raised his hand to his lips and touched the substance. When he looked at his hand it had blood smeared on it. The watcher grabbed Xelqua by the face again and made him face it. “You need to train.” The voices mixed again “We have decided that you will train, one way or another.”

Time seemed to slowdown when the watcher reached out its hand to grab Xelqua’s wing. The watcher’s sharp nails begun to dig into his wings. Xelqua screamed from the pain. Then the pain stopped suddenly. Xelqua felt like he was falling. All he could hear was wind rushing. The falling stopped just as suddenly as it had begun. He put his hand on the ground and felt grass. He opened his eyes suddenly and looked around.

Around him was a forest filled with oak trees. Grass covered the ground as far as he could see. A tall mountain stood above the forest, a waterfall flowing down its side. A cave sat on top of the mountain. Xelqua stood up and spread his wings to see if they were badly damaged.

They seemed fine for the most part. He didn’t want to use them to fly just in case someone saw him. He began to walk up to the mountain with his wings dragging behind him. Mud and grass got stuck in his wings, but he couldn’t bring himself to care. He was just tired. On the way to the top of the mountain he grabbed sticks, rocks and some flint.

Once he got up to the mountain he sat in the cave. With the things he grabbed along the way, he made a campfire. It was only small, and the fire didn’t do much warm him up. He changed his wings to look like a macaw. He didn’t need the people knowing he was a watcher. It was the only magic thing he knew how to do on command. He decided to try and figure out where he was in the morning.

For now he would sleep.
