Work Text:

Kit had stayed after Airk and Elora’s (but mostly Airk’s) engagement party. It seemed everyone had plenty of fun. Everyone danced and ate and drank and Kit felt wonderfully included. She even let Jade and Airk lead her around the floor a few times. She might not have been able to hear the music but she could feel the rhythm of the steps as they took them. It was nice.

Elora asked about Kit’s plans and was shocked at how Kit grabbed her hands in both of Kit’s own, she held one hand up in front of herself signing to block the view and told her that the velvet box was packed amongst her toiletries, ready for the trip to the mountains they would be taking as soon as Jade was back from one more conference. Their yearly camping trip was inconveniently scheduled for the weekend after their fall break, but they would be going, as always.

“Elora, I didn’t know you signed.” Sorsha said as she joined them, tapping Kit’s shoulder as she did so to alert her daughter to her presence. Kit squinted at her mother’s mouth, getting most words and using context clues to fill in the blanks.

“I’ve been learning so I can get to know Kit better. We'll be sisters’ in-law soon and it’s a good skill to have. I didn’t know you didn’t sign.” Elora lied and started to interpret as well, causing Kit’s shoulders to sag a bit in relief. Kit knew Elora knew full well that her mother had never learned, using her son or Jade or Graydon as an interpreter instead. She could have hugged Elora right then and there.

Sorsha cleared her throat uncomfortably, Kit saw her mother’s throat move with the action, had learned what it meant over the years. “That’s… kind of you to do.” she seemed properly abashed and Kit felt herself smiling, not caring enough to stop herself.

“It was nothing of the sort.” Kit could see the bite of the response in the snap of Elora’s hands and the clench of her jaw as Kit’s eyes flicked between them all.

“So what were you talking about?” Sorsha asked and Kit knew her mother had to have hated asking, had always hated being left out of the loop as though that weren’t hypocritical.

Elora turned to Kit, asked if she wanted to tell her mother or if she were keeping the proposal to herself. Kit shrugged, a universal sign that she didn’t care. “Tell her as long as no one else hears.” Kit gave Elora the permission and stared her mother in the eyes, hoping that she would be excited, happy for them even. Instead she saw sadness and maybe a glimmer of anger.

“Without talking to me first?” Sorsha asked, and even Elora looked a little confused by the response.

“I wasn’t aware that I had to ask your permission.” Kit glared and knew she had made some small angry sound, one that Sorsha always got out of her.

“Stop with those noises, either speak or don’t.” Sorsha’s nose turned up and scrunched like it always did, making Kit seethe and feel small. “You’re being disruptive.”

“Literally no one cares but you, Mom. Thanks Elora. You were doing a really good job. Can you take Kit… anywhere else?” Airk asked and kissed his fiancee’s temple, patted his sister’s shoulder.

They were maybe five steps away from them when Kit felt her eyes start to tear up.

“Can I hug you?” Elora asked. “You look like you could use one but… I know I’m not your-”

Elora was cut off by Kit’s face in her shoulder and arms around her middle. Kit felt the chuckle in Elora’s body and decided to let it go.

“Whoa who died?!” Jade asked, tapping Kit’s shoulder and looking thoroughly bewildered.

“I was about to kill Sorsha.” Elora said, and based on the look on her face, Kit kind of believed her. Maybe there was a spine beneath all of that sugar somewhere.

“Oh, was she being Sorsha again?” Jade scoffed. “Yeah, welcome to the family. What was it about this time?”

“Uhhhh…” Elora had nothing, Kit could tell.

“I vocalized.” Kit covered with a partial truth. “Don’t worry. I’m over it. I’ll just be more careful about it. Don’t worry about me, you have that conference tomorrow. Go on home and focus. I’ll be okay here. Elora and Airk have got me. I’ll run myself a bath tonight and everything will be good.”

“The world is ending. I swear to God.” Jade kissed Kit, hugged Elora and went around the room making her goodbyes as people started to trickle out.

“You’ll make a halfway decent sister.” Kit told Elora before heading up to her old room to get away from everyone.

Kit had run herself a bath and put on one of the fancy face masks her mom had always gotten her and she hadn’t cared enough to use. Kit put the stolen bottle of champagne on the windowsill by the bath and lit the candles (also gifts from her mother Kit had never cared to use) and covered the room with them. Jade texted that she had gotten home alright and Kit relaxed until the message that always came when Jade had to tuck herself into bed alone.

“This bed is too big.”

Kit shook her head at how predictable it was and how much she loved that about her girlfriend.

The text was followed by a picture of Jade, her hair wrapped and her limbs splayed akimbo across the bed, pouting at being all alone. It was adorable. Kit saved it immediately.

“So is this bathtub.” Kit replied and took a picture of herself mostly submerged in the water, her face only visible from the nose up to the top of her head, and her nipples poking out as she teased Jade. “Do you remember the last time we were in here together?”  Kit asked the question knowing exactly what memories that would bring up for Jade.

“I remember getting in trouble with your mom.” Jade sent with a laughing crying emoji.

“She has headphones. She could have used them.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.” Kit answered and followed up with. “That’s not what I remember best.”

“What do you remember best, then?” Kit asked and she knew when Jade was baiting her, but she was more than willing to play along. She had some frustration to work off. It wouldn’t be as good as when Jade was with her, working her over, but it certainly was better than drowning in her own thoughts.

“I remember how you felt, sitting between my legs with your back pressed against me, how you moved with each of my breaths, how soft you were. I remember how you gasped when I scratched my nails along the tops of your thighs.”

Kit sighed aloud at the memory, scratched her nails along her legs the way she remembered Jade had, sipped the champagne straight from the bottle.

“I just tried doing it myself.”

“It didn’t feel nearly as good.” Kit double texted. She didn’t care. Jade needed to know.

“You know, I get that a lot.” Jade texted back and Kit felt Jade’s laughter in her chest, just like she did when she touched Jade as she laughed. Kit had a really good imagination. Jade knew this and enjoyed taking advantage. “I remember your hair tickling my shoulder and the underside of my chin and how well you fit, your body pressed between my legs and your head tilted back against my shoulder as I focused on making you feel good. You made beautiful sounds and they echoed through that whole brick room and it was wonderful.”

Kit let her head fall back against the tub, one hand holding her phone as the other explored her body in the best approximation of what she could remember Jade having done. She needed Jade to get to the good part.

“Are you touching yourself now, Kit? I am. I’m remembering that night in that tub and how you felt and it got me so wet so quickly.” Jade typed back and Kit almost dropped her phone into the water she rushed to respond so quickly.

“I want to, but I was waiting for the good part.” Kit answered and immediately tucked her hand between her legs, feeling the difference between her wetness and the water of the bath that managed to slick it away.

“Don’t make yourself wait, Kit. You deserve to feel good. I know I do.” Kit’s imagination shifted from the past to the far away present. She could imagine Jade in their bed using her fingers or maybe the vibrator Jade kept in the nightstand’s top drawer. She knew Jade’s face in moments like these so well. She knew how the sounds she made vibrated in her chest, how they felt beneath Kit’s fingers and palms, how Jade’s jaw would clench and she would scrunch her eyes and how her muscles would tense.

“I’m thinking about you touching yourself right now, how you look, how you feel. Can you describe it for me?” Kit asked, drying her hands so she could type. It left her torturously untouched, but she felt it was necessary. She needed to know.

“I’m using my fingers so lightly and I’m thinking about how wet and warm you were and how my arm strained while I reached around you. It’s too light, but it’s what you would do if you were here. You would want to torture and tease me. You’re mean like that, but god I love it.” Jade took a moment to answer, but it was so so worth it when she did.

Kit slid one finger in and out of herself, not enough to do anything but tease herself, stopping now and again to play with her clit. Her teeth sank into her lower lip and she imagined that they were Jade’s, biting her and marking her the way she so loved to do, the way that made Kit feel claimed by her.

“If it were me with you, I would be fucking you by now, pulling you out of the water and pushing you onto the toilet seat and eating you out until you were crying and shaking and coming on my face. Can you come for me, Kit? Can you make yourself feel good?”  The text came a while later, the light on her phone set to the side flashing to let Kit know that it needed her attention. It wasn’t the only thing.

Kit was ready to come just from those words, from imagining Jade’s hands making those words, from imagining Jade doing exactly what she had described. Kit abused her clit at that, imagining Jade’s leg, tongue, hands, images flashing through her mind quickly as she clenched her eyes and felt herself fold and shiver as she came onto her fingers, warm amongst the cooling water. When she pulled her hand out of the water it was to wrinkled and pruney fingers. The universal sign she needed to get out of the bathtub. She texted Jade first.

“That was so so good, Jade. We should take another bath together soon… maybe not at my mom’s house,” Kit laughed to herself about that at the same time. “Or not when my mom is home at any time. Did you feel good?”

“Of course, love. I miss you, princess.” Jade texted and Kit could feel her sleepiness through the phone, or maybe that was her own.

“Love you, I’ll see you on the mountain.” Kit promised and pulled the drain on the tub to wash and get ready for bed.

“I love you. I hope your talk with your mom and A&E tomorrow goes well.” was the message waiting for Kit when she got finished with her shower and had slipped into one of the oversized tee shirts of Jade’s she had stolen to bring with her. Kit replied with a purple heart and was asleep as soon as her head had hit the pillow.
