something to hold onto [morning noon day or night]

Summary:

"You okay Yone?" K'Sante asked, resting his cheek on his fist, head tilted slightly. Yone looked up at him through his lashes before quickly looking back down at his drink, unsure how to handle the weight of K'Sante's gaze. His drink didn't help much, however; the dark brown just reminded him of the other’s warm eyes, and he took a quick drink to distract himself.

"I’m fine, just…" he paused, tucking a stray piece of hair behind his ear, "Just a bit tired."

Work Text:

Sleep was not something that came easy to Yone. Whether it be because nightmares kept him up throughout the night, or simply because his brain wouldn't let him sleep; he was used to running on little sleep, and too much coffee.

Last night, however, was particularly dreadful. His mind wouldn't rest until there was a measly two hours before he needed to wake up, and even when he did manage to sleep, he woke up soon after breathing heavily and heart racing. He blinked hard, letting his eyes adjust as he looked at his phone clock. The numbers beamed back at him, proudly proclaiming he had a half hour left before his alarm would go off. Yone sighed, running a hand across his face and throwing his comforter off to the side, then swinging his legs over the side of the bed. He sat there for a minute, taking deep calming breaths before he managed to get up, starting a pot of coffee. Standing in the kitchen he could feel the sleep weighing on his shoulders, dragging him down in what felt like a pool of molasses. He was glad he normally woke up well before anyone was up and about, giving him ample time to pull himself out of the quicksand of exhaustion he was rapidly sinking in.

Yone took a long drink of coffee once it finally finished, reveling in the quiet morning that he knew wouldn't last long.

"Good morning Yone!"

Yone cursed himself for his thoughts, tucking a piece of hair behind his ear as he looked up at the two that had just walked into the kitchen. Sett and K'sante were dressed in their workout clothes, and a quick glance at the time confirmed that it was right about the time they'd be getting home.

"Morning K'Sante, Sett," Yone replied, finishing off his drink and refilling the mug, making his best attempt to appear as if all was normal. It seemed to work for Sett as he heard the man's footsteps retreating to the bathroom to shower. This didn't work for K'Sante it seemed, as there was a soft scraping sound as the taller man sat on a stool at the kitchen island.

Silence descended over the pair, K'Sante staring intently at Yone, head still tilted and soft expression on his face while Yone attempted not to let his gaze travel back up to K'Sante. It didn't work very well, but after a while Sett came out of the shower and K'Sante stood to leave.

"Let me know if you need anything, hm?" K'Sante said before walking into the bathroom himself, not waiting for an answer. Yone let his shoulder's drop, hanging his head slightly; that man was going to be the death of him.

"Yone! Kayne stole my pants!" a loud voice that Yone recognized as Ezreal sounded from through their living room and up the stairs. He sighed to himself, downing the rest of his coffee and going to get ready for what was sure to be a long day.

To say K'Sante was worried about Yone would be an understatement. The man was practically dead on his feet! He was dressed in his usual attire, but it was as if his exhausted energy had affected every facet of his being, causing his hair to fall flatter than usual and his clothes to seem rumpled. The poorly hidden dark circles under his eyes didn't help. K'Sante was probably hovering too much, but after their earlier dance practice wherein Yone had tripped over his own feet, K'Sante felt the extra worry was earned. K'Sante had just barely managed to catch him, and he tried not to remember the way Yone's hands felt bracing themselves against his own chest.

All throughout the day, K'Sante was there to either hold Yone up, in a literal sense or a metaphorical sense. He really wanted to pull rank and tell Yone to rest for the day but pulling rank never felt good for either of them, so unless he put himself into serious danger he would allow whatever Yone wanted.

Although, he always tended to have a soft spot for Yone. Whether it came to who sat up front when he drove, to who got free food whenever he'd make a fast food run for the team, Yone almost always was the one to receive the special treatment. Not that anyone would call him on it, well, except Kayne, but Kayne was always yelling about something or another, so everyone tended to tune him out when it came to K'Sante having a favorite.

Today might break his cover though, because while sitting on the couch and watching a movie with everyone else, Yone fell asleep on his shoulder. Snoring just softly enough for K'Sante– and only K'Sante– to hear. The movie ended, and the others started to chatter, the volume slowly picking up as Sett and Kayne started to get into an argument before K'Sante shushed them all, pointing to Yone's sleeping form curled up against him. Sett at least had the decency to look apologetic before being dragged away by Aphelios. Ezreal and Kayne retreated quickly after, bickering the whole way, before finally, K'Sante was left alone with Yone. He didn't want to risk waking him, so instead he shifted his body ever so slightly, leaning forward to slide a hand under Yone’s knees while the other wrapped around his shoulder. Thankfully he stayed asleep, even as K'Sante stood, walking slowly to Yone's bedroom. When he got there, he gently set Yone down, carefully tugging the hair tie loose from his head, knowing he wouldn't feel comfortable changing Yone and this was the least he could do. K'Sante stood next to where Yone was asleep on the bed, wanting nothing more than to lean down and press a soft kiss to Yone's forehead. He resisted, settling instead for gently brushing Yone's bangs out of his face before turning to leave. A hand grabbing his wrist stopped him, however, and he turned to find a barely conscious Yone blinking up at him through sleep filled eyes.

“Stay,” he whispered, expression soft but pleading. K'Sante realized he didn't think he'd be able to deny the other anything anytime soon and nodded, heart hammering in his chest. Swiftly he made his way around the bed, climbing carefully into the unoccupied side. Yone murmured a quiet thanks, grabbing K'Sante's hand and pulling it close, rubbing his thumb along the side of K'Sante's hand.

Yone's breathing evened out and K'Sante relaxed slightly, a soft smile spreading across his face at the peaceful expression Yone bore. Before he realized, K'Sante had fallen asleep, peace and comfort overtaking him.

When they woke in the morning, wrapped up in each other, and Yone realized he had gotten a full night of peaceful rest, well, it really couldn't be helped if sleeping in the same bed became a habit.
