Work Header

know that all my love will be your breath

Summary:

"And sure, Scott and Jimmy may not be husbands anymore. They’ve not been husbands for a while. But Scott loves him, still.

And Scott could at least do this for him."

--

Or, Scott is tired of the Canary Curse, and takes matters into his own hands.

Notes:

This used to be tagged major character death. I have since switched it for the character death additional tag, but if I should switch it back let me know!!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Scott knows it’s a trap as soon as Lizzie takes him to the edge. He’s not at all surprised when she pulls the axe and tries to knock him into the void.

She looks disappointed, once she realizes she failed. Scott, outwardly, laughs about it, joking around with her.

Scott stares her down, keeping her gaze up.

He knows the endermen could be looking. In fact, he hoped they were. That was the point.

Nobody would ever find him here, that was true. But the same went in reverse.

Because nobody would stop to think that maybe, just maybe, Lizzie’s death was any more than an accident.

She tries again, but this time she is even less effective.

Jimmy’s “funeral” really put things in perspective for Scott. Every single time, out first. Alone in the afterlife.

Sure, Jimmy may have been trying to hurt him all session.

And sure, Scott and Jimmy may not be husbands anymore. They’ve not been husbands for a while. But Scott loves him, still.

And Scott could at least do this for him.

The canary would not be the first to fall if he could help it.

The enderman, angered by Lizzie’s gaze, strikes quickly, long limbs pushing Lizzie less than a block before she’s falling down into the endless void.

Scott does not move to help.

He does not place down his water, he does not move to try and grasp her hand.

Scott lets her fall.

If only for a while, Scott frees the canary from his cage.

Scott frees the Canary from his curse.

Notes:

...and then Jimmy dies like ten minutes later lol

I wrote this the moment I finished Scott's POV. I was struck with inspiration, so I just wrote :)
