Work Text:
It was Peter’s 25th birthday and 5th anniversary as an Avenger and of course Tony organized a huge party for him. He invited everyone. Everyone except the one person Peter really cared about, the one person that he wished was there.
~ 2 days earlier in Peter’s apartment ~
“Petey there was no way he knew..” Wade was trying to put some sense into his boyfriend while he was making coffees for both of them. “Or did you tell him about us?” he raised his eyebrow looking at the hero, handing him a cup with warm latte.
“Thank you.” he grabbed the cup and took a huge sip out of it. “And no I didn’t tell him but..”
“There is no but Webs, just like there was no way he knew to invite me for your big ass fancy party.” he mocked. Hours ago Peter was complaining about how he doesn’t enjoy big birthdays with a lot of people. “Also, he didn’t like me very much and you know that. None of the Avengers do actually.” Wade took a sip of an iced americano out of his glass.
“Well they should.” Peter left his coffee on the table as he sat down. “If they ever want to meet my other half they should be open to whoever I’m dating.” he hugged the cup with both of his hands and it was always something that Wade found adorable.
Every morning they had together the hero was putting on one of mercenary’s hoodies, sat down by the table, his knees resting on the side of it and held a cup of coffee with two hands. Wade loved that little routine of his.
“To be fair, I think the thought of you dating the craziest mercenary in the world never actually crossed their mind.” Wilson took a place by the other side of the table.
“Well..” Peter tried to present some other argument but failed. He had nothing. “I hate when you are right.” he sighed.
“Besides, we will celebrate your birthday either way. I made plans.” Wade reassured him.
“What plans?” the hero looked at him suspiciously.
“It’s a surprise.” the mercenary answered mysteriously.
“Should I be scared?” Peter joked, smiling.
“Of course not!” Wade waved his arms dramatically. “How could you even think that..” he puffed pretending to be offended, making his boyfriend laugh.
“I have no idea..” he smiled, getting up to approach the older man. “My deepest apologies Mr. Wilson..” he joked leaving a quick peck on Wade’s lips. He knew calling Wade mister, sir or even daddy made him dangerously turned on.
“I don’t know Petey-pie.. I think you should find a way to actually apologize.” the mercenary grinned, pulling the hero back into his arms and kissing him passionately.
“As you wish..” Peter bit his lower lip.
~ Now ~
Peter was standing in the corner of the huge ballroom Tony rented specially for this occasion (of course he would do that). Even though his tuxedo was comfortable and everyone was warm and welcoming, congratulating him and wishing happy birthday, he still couldn’t shake off the feeling something was missing. Or more like someone. He took out his phone and began texting.
To: Wade <3
I wish you were here..
From: Wade <3
Me too baby boy but it’s just one night.. You can handle one night without your handsome boyfriend ;)
To: Wade <3
You know it’s not the case… It’s my birthday, my actual one and the first I would finally spend with someone I love and now I can’t.
From: Wade <3
Ohh you said you love me.. I’m gonna cry
To: Wade <3
I’ve said I love you many times..
“Who are you texting?” the sudden question made Peter jump and almost drop his phone.
He quickly hid the device in his pocket.
“No one..” he lied.
“Oh come on Parker..” Natasha teased. “Tell me who is that special person.”
And Peter thought why not. He can talk about Wade without telling anyone it’s him. What could go wrong? He took a gulp of his champagne.
“Well if you must now.” he started. “I’m texting with my boyfriend..”
“Our little Peter Parker has a boyfriend?” she smiled widely, like she was happy for him. “Why didn’t you say anything before?! And why isn’t he here?”
“Tony didn’t invite him..” Peter wasn’t lying.
“Well I’m going to put some sense into his money flooded brain.” she almost left but he grabbed her arm.
“Please no..” he cried in embarrassment, he started to regret saying anything. The Black Widow was clearly drunk and telling drunk Natasha anything always ends up badly. How didn’t he notice that before? “Tony doesn’t know about him…” he hesitated but continued eitherway. “Also I don’t think he would like him..”
“Oh come on Peter.. He’s dating you so he definitely has good taste in men.” she teased but suddenly went quiet, like she was thinking about something. “You know what? You should invite him yourself! Tell him to come over!” she shouted excitedly.
“Shhh..” he tried to calm her down. “I don’t think it’s a good idea..”
“What? Why? What’s the worst that could happen?” she looked him straight in the eyes with all seriousness a drunk person can have.
You could kill him, hurt him, burn the place down .. He started counting down in his thoughts.
“Come on, call him..” she bugged pulling his arm like a child who wants a candy.
If it wasn’t obvious already drunk Natasha was nothing like a sober one.
“If I do, you promise not to say anything to anyone?” he raised his eyebrow.
He was definitely drunk too, there was no way he actually considered it.
“I promise.” she said smiling.
Peter sighed heavily thinking how could he be so stupid to end up in this situation but he still took his phone out and picked the number. He hesitated on clicking the call button but Natasha was faster. She quickly snatched the phone out from his hands and - thankfully - without looking at the screen she called the number. Peter tried to get his phone back but she was too quick, moving around so he wouldn’t catch her.
“Hello? Hi!” she spoke when Wade answered the call. “My name is Natasha and I’m Peter’s friend. He is at… at a party we made for his birthday and he would really like you to come here!” he said almost in one breath before quickly hanging up.
At least she didn’t say anything about the Avengers. If Peter was dating someone from the outside of the superhero community they would be incredibly screwed.
He was about to tell her to give his phone back but she did it without asking and left with a smile and “You welcome.”
Peter rolled his eyes thinking about the disaster that would happen if Wade would really come over so he decided to call him back.
Here’s your friendly neighborhood… Wait no, that’s not right.. Here’s Deadpool, leave a message after the beep… beep..
“Damn it..” he cussed under his breath. He tried to call a few more times but Wade still wasn’t answering. The only thing left was to wait.
The next few hours went by surprisingly quickly. He talked with his superhero friends, drank a few more champagnes and even played billiards with Tony, until the clock struck midnight.
“Everyone, can I get your attention please?” Tony called out through the microphone. “Thank you all for coming here and celebrating our Spiderman’s 25th birthday and 5th anniversary of being an Avenger!” everyone clapped and screamed in excitement. “We are all proud of you! You came a long way to be here and we couldn’t be more grateful to have you in our team! Happy birthday Peter!” yet another wave of ovations.
He was in the middle of the dancefloor and was about to thank everyone when he felt his phone buzzing. He took it out and looked at the message.
From: Wade <3
I’m sorry..
Before he could even process what that meant they all heard a loud squeak and he realized his microphone wasn’t working anymore.
“Ladies and gentlemen.” he heard another voice that was also connected to the speakers, and to his horror he knew this voice. Everyone looked at eachother confused. Everyone except Natasha, she was looking at Peter smiling. ‘You welcome’ she mouthed. “Peter… I know you said it wasn’t a good idea but after you texted me about this being our first birthday together and that we will spend it apart, I just couldn’t leave it. You are the kindest and bravest person I’ve ever met and I’m the luckiest guy in the world to call myself your boyfriend.” this caused a few gasps in the crowd. After that there was a moment of silence, interrupted by confused whispers until the front door slammed and everyone looked that way, whispers getting much louder and more chaotic.
“Is that..” Steve started but decided to shut up after receiving one look from Natasha.
Deadpool was wearing a suit and of course his mask. He rarely went out without it, too insecure about himself. Peter also noticed the huge bouquet he was holding.
“So without further ado..” he spoke once again, stepping closer and closer to the hero. “Happy birthday Petey..” he smiled under his mask, giving the flowers to his stunned boyfriend.
“You are crazy..” Parker sighed, shaking his head, but he was smiling. The last missing piece of his birthday was in it’s place.
“So will you do me the honors and come out as boyfriends?” Wade asked, making the other man laugh.
“I don’t think I have a choice.” he smirked, pulling Deadpool’s mask halfway and pulling him into a kiss.
And the rest was history…
Okay maybe Tony needed to pay a bit more to the owners of the ballroom for the mess they made after Deadpool appeared at the party but Peter wouldn’t have it any other way. He finally didn’t have to hide.
