“Number 37 !” Shouted Simon right as he was passing Alec’s door in the Institute. Alec signed deeply but ultimately ignored him in favour of filling in more paperwork. He had a warlock to go home to after all, and that wouldn’t happen until he had finished his work for the day.
That being said, it would have been a lie to claim the thought was completely erased from his mind. So the first thing he did after crossing the threshold of the loft was run to Magnus.
"Can I kiss you?"
If the warlock was surprised, he didn't let it show on his face. Instead, he nodded with a gentle smile on his face. Fuck, how lucky was he to be married to the kindest man ever?
The rest of the evening passed peacefully, and Magnus didn't ask what event has prompted Alec's reaction, for which Alec was grateful.
The next day, Alec woke up first and decided to repay the kindness by preparing breakfast to the best of his abilities.
"Here, I made this for you", he announced while depositing a loving kiss on Magnus's forehead. "I am sorry I have to leave early today.”
Magnus let him go with a smile, promising he wasn't angry.
Ten minutes later, Alec was welcoming Simon to his office. Rafael was there as well to renegotiate better terms for a tentative downworlder-Nephilim team, the first of its kind ever.
Simon was more than enthusiastic and surprisingly. Rafael has finally stopped considering that Alec was stealing his papa away from him.
As a repayment, Alec stopped Simon on his way out.
“54" he whispered with a wink.
"Are Simon and you competing for something?" asked Jace later that day.
"No. We're merely helping each other out.” Jace raised an eyebrow but didn't ask for more clarification. Later that day, Alec found a piece of paper with the number 75 on it in his desk bin. Less than an hour later, Magnus met him for lunch.
"I was just thinking about you” smiled Alec. He motioned to the seat next to him and moved closer so they could enjoy the closest to a lunch date they would have in the foreseeable future.
"23" joked Alec.
"Fuck off" laughed Simon in answer.
"I’m sorry, Alexander, but it looks like it might take more time than I had planned.”
"No worries. I'll wait".
He settled in more comfortably on the sofa and prepared himself to wait and observe the master in action. Magnus was always so gorgeous whenever he did magic, Alec always thought he was the luckiest man on each that Magnus had spent more than a glance in his direction. But no matter, Alec was ready to make sure he would spoil the warlock to death and ensured his lifetime would be spent making him happy. He has even rewritten his wedding vows in the privacy of his own mind several times over to make sure he wouldn't lose sight of this goal.
Another day, another date. Alec was on card 9, finally they had more than one how they could steal between meetings in order to spend time together.
"Close your eyes and hold out your hands", he instructed to a beautifully trusting Magnus. He did, and Alec deposited the repaired Omamori in his hands.
He has seen how heartbroken Magnus had looked when a stupid accident with a young warlock had damaged it. It had taken some effort, and many famous from a lot of people, but Alec had done it.
The charm was repaired, as if nothing has ever happened despite the fact that it has survived 10 years and many battles already.
"HELP"
Alec snorted. Frankly, no, he didn't feel sympathetic to Simon’s plight. That's what you get for teasing everyone, he thought.
Sighing, he still answered, if only to pay back the help that Simon never refused him.
"58"
"Darling, Can I ask you a question?"
"Always, Mag."
"Since when do you have a private code with Simon?"
Alec sputtered for a second. Not that he thought they had been the most subtle, subtlety and Simon do not go hand in hand generally after all, but he suddenly felt very embarrassed about what he was about to answer.
Magnus waited for him to stop blushing and Alec couldn't help taking his hand in his.
"Well, you see, when we met, I wasn't particularly... experienced you know?”
Magnus was considerate enough not to comment on how much of an understatement that was.
"So I asked Simon for help after the Asmodeus debacle. I wanted you to never doubt how much I love you. But I'm not too good at feelings”.
Magnus cooed, raising a hand to his face. Alexander closed his eyes and nuzzled the warm palm offered to him.
"He showed me this... list. 100 ways to show people you love them. And he used to give me advice on which one was appropriate in which context."
Later, Simon had started dating Rafael and Alec had had the upper hand if only for the fact that dating Magnus for so long had given him precious information on what the vampire would like in a romantic partner. It has seemed normal to return the gesture and help Simon as well.
"All these years, and you keep surprising me"
"I just want you to be happy " simply responded Alec with a shrug.
"Which number is this one?" teased the warlock
"... 92"
"And which is number 100?"
"I love you"
That one always came naturally.
