Work Text:
Amelia Watson didn’t know where she was going to go, but she knew that she had to leave. She leaned her head against the glass window, her expression downcast as she waited in her bus seat. The rain pattering on the window was making her feel more and more alone, despite the number of strangers seated around her. The detective sighed as she gazed out the window, a glimpse of something blue caught her eye, it reminded her of Gura. It reminded her of the bittersweetness of love, it reminded her of home. Amelia replayed the events of the last few hours in her mind.
Amelia had returned home that evening in a considerable amount of pain. She had been on call, a thug had managed to land a pretty good hit on her side before being apprehended. She had been careless. The sheriff of her department might’ve informed her girlfriends, since all four of them ambushed her as soon as she walked in the door.
Calli was angry with her for not taking her own safety into account, Kiara was disappointed that the detective didn’t listen to their previous talks, Ina was concerned about how bad she was hurt, and Gura was angry with her for worrying them again.
Amelia had responded the wrong way, she had said that it wasn’t her fault. It was entirely her fault, though, she didn’t plan on getting injured. Her girlfriends reacted strongly to her response. Calli had gotten right in her face and yelled, nobody stopped her. Nobody stopped Calli when she told the detective that she had hurt them enough, nobody stopped her when she told Amelia to leave. Nobody stopped Amelia when she walked out the door. Nobody ran after her.
Amelia had gone to the transit station in the pouring rain, her outfit was completely soaked. The detective gave the bus driver her ticket and chose a seat near the middle of the bus. She saw the bus driver give her a look of concern, but she dismissed it with a forced smile.
Amelia was angry with herself. She was angry with herself for constantly hurting her girlfriends, for constantly causing them concern. She should’ve been more careful, she should’ve taken her own safety into more consideration. Amelia missed her girlfriends, she wanted to be back home and in their arms, she wanted to give them all of her love, but she couldn't. She doubted that they would want to see her again after what she had done. Shivering, Amelia pulled her soaking wet coat around her tighter.
“Amelia!” she missed them so much that she was now having auditory hallucinations. “Amelia!”
Amelia caught a glimpse of blue once again, followed by purple, pink, and orange. She heard more voices calling out her name. The detective raised an eyebrow and looked around the bus, no stranger was looking her way,
“Watson, you dumbass!” Amelia’s eyes widened, those voices were clearer now. “Don’t leave us!”
Amelia looked out the bus window, her breath hitched as she saw who was calling her name. Gura, Ina, Kiara, and Calli were there, they came looking for her. Amelia shot out of her seat, and ran off the bus.
They came for her, they came looking for her. The detective was immediately pulled into a loving group hug, it was warm. Tears welled up in her eyes as she whimpered apologies to her lovers, them whispering reassurances and apologies of their own in return. Calli and Ina sheltered the five of them under their umbrellas once they all pulled away from the group hug. Kiara wrapped Amelia in a dry and warmer coat as Gura took her hand in her own.
“Come on stinky, let’s go home.” Gura said with a grin. “You’re completely soaked.”
“You’re gonna catch a cold if you stay like that for any longer.” Calli added.
Amelia merely hummed in response, she was already feeling the effects of a cold but that didn't matter to her. She was home now, that was all that mattered to her at this moment, she was where she belonged. She was with her girlfriends. Gura’s hold on Amelia’s hand was a tight grip, Amelia could feel the shark girl's love radiating off of her the whole walk home.
