Work Text:
The temperature was actually decent for once. Windows open with a slight breeze. Even if that breeze smelled slightly of sulfur on occasion, it was a pleasant change of pace. It was nice to have the windows open while working on some paperwork. Mostly because, when she looked up from her work, she got to see her girlfriend sitting on the window sill of an open window. Her back against the wooden frame.
Vaggie sat there with her eye closed, head pressed back against the wood. She had been reading a book but it now sat face down in her lap. Opened to where she had been reading. Her legs were stretched out over the window sill, shoes kicked off on the floor below her. She looked peaceful.
Charlie wondered if she was just resting or actually asleep. It wasn’t often that she saw Vaggie let her guard down. She was often doing anything possible to protect the hotel and the Princess that ran it. Sometimes she protected the inhabitants.
The hand in Vaggie’s lap twitched a little and slowly slid off her leg to hang off to her side.
Asleep.
Somewhere between the gentle breeze, the scraping of markers over paper, and the soft music of The Greastest Showman in the background, Vaggie had let sleep overtake her. A slow, happy smile formed on Charlie’s face. She loved anything Vaggie did, but she loved to see her at peace the most.
She cautiously stood up from the position behind her desk, careful not to let the chair scrape on the wooden floor as she did so. The suit jacket that she had discarded from her person earlier that afternoon, fell off the armrest of the chair and onto the floor. Forgotten. Creeping quietly over to the sleeping form of her girlfriend, Charlie took a moment to admire her.
Her long silver hair was swept to the side over her shoulder, lightly blowing with the waning breeze. Her eye was closed, mouth neutral, face relaxed. The soft fabric dress she wore fell off her shoulder slightly, showing the strap of her bra. The dress was sleeveless, making Charlie follow down her petit arms to the book that rested in her lap, one hand on top of it.
She had been reading Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Charlie had told her about the series but Vaggie had never read it. After poking and prodding, she finally gave in and began the series. She was on book two currently.
Reaching down, she tenderly grabbed the well worn book and shuffled it from under her fingers. Taking a piece of paper from nearby, she marked the page and closed the book. She sat it aside and moved her gaze back to the woman that made her heart feel like it might burst.
She was beautiful. Her angelic face framed by her long hair, dark lips now slightly parted as she sighed in her sleep. Her adorable nose that deserved all the kisses wiggled as her bangs tickled the tip. Her sharp jaw line meeting her neck that had several love marks peppering it, all in various stages of healing from the previous night’s activities.
Charlie felt extremely lucky.
Vaggie stirred a little, possibly from being uncomfortable on the ledge and possibly from the feeling that she was being watched. Charlie took that moment to lean over and place a tender kiss on Vaggie’s temple before she gingerly wrapped an arm around the torso of her lover and the other came to rest under her knees. She scooped Vaggie up easily and only then did the fallen angel stir.
“Charlie?” She muttered sleepily, turning slightly into the white shirt that covered Charlie’s chest.
“Hey sweetie, I’m just taking you to bed.” She offered as her grip tightened a little to hold the smaller woman against her protectively.
Vaggie’s hand came up to grab at her girlfriend, her hand settling to grab ahold of the suspender slung over Charlie’s shoulder. She mumbled in her daze and pressed her face closer to the quickening heartbeat of her partner.
As Charlie walked back past her desk, she could hear the music playing to A Million Dreams playing and softly began to hum the tune. With the happiest smile on her face, she carefully walked towards the door of the office to take her precious cargo to the safety of their bedroom. The soft humming continued, the reverberation felt by the one being carried. “Charlie.” She muttered again, lifting her head just slightly while her eye remained closed. “Will you sing to me?”
Always telling her not to sing, she not so secretly knew that Vaggie loved hearing her sing. Looking down at the most perfect person in her arms, she continued to hum the tune to the song before letting her voice pick up where the humming left off.
“Through the dark, through the door, through where no one’s been before, but it feels like home.”
Her voice was quieted to a level that you would only be able to hear if you were standing right next to her, or in this case, in her arms.
She hummed a little more of the tune as she concentrated on tapping the office door open a little more with her foot, trying not to bump any part of the person she had nestled in her arms as she made her way into the hallway. Humming a few more lines she picked the tune up again.
“Cause every night I lie in bed.
The brightest colors fill my head.
A million dreams are keeping me awake.
I think of what the world could be, a vision of the one I see, a million dreams is all it’s going to take.
Oh a million dreams of a world we’re going to make.”
Even though she wasn’t belting out the song like she usually would, her tune still carried gracefully at the low tone. Vaggie smiled, eye still closed as she shifted herself into the blonde more. They had made their way down the hall towards their room, Charlie backing up against the door to bump it open with her backside before carefully walking through with Vaggie.
She tapped the door shut lightly with her foot and made a line for the bed. The soft humming continued while she delicately laid Vaggie down on the bed and pulled the covers up over her tiny body. She watched as Vaggie slipped a hand under her pillow and curled into it a little, drawing her knees up from where she was lying on her side.
“Joining me?” She questioned groggily, eye peeking open just enough to see Charlie standing there, looking down with a wide smile. Her heart was definitely going to explode.
“Soon. I just have to finish something up real quick.” She offered, bending down to place a gentle kiss on the corner of Vaggie’s lips.
The corner of her lips turned up slightly at the kiss. Her eye closed again and she snuggled into the covers more, settling herself in.
“Ok…make sure you pick up your suit jacket.” She mumbled through a yawn. Charlie stared down at her girlfriend with a questioning look on her face.
How the fuck did she even notice that?
