Chapter Text
Prologue
Dressed in all black, Emily put on her black leather jacket over her tank top. She pulled her hair up in a ponytail, which she didn't like very much. The swimmer stared at herself in the mirror. No one was bound to find her in the darkness of a moonless night and that's exactly what she was hoping for.
She heard a car stopping by her driveway. It was Spencer and the girls. As silently as she could, Emily escaped from her bedroom window. Her parents did not know of their little trip tonight. It was something she needed to face on her own.
Emily jumped and landed graciously on the ground, much to the other girls' amazement. Hanna opened up the back door to Emily and she entered the SUV.
"It's good that you're jumping out of windows. It means that you're back to your good old good shape." Aria was riding shotgun, which meant that Emily was going on the backseat with Hanna. She unconsciously brushed her fingers on her neck, searching for two tiny holes that still marked her skin.
"This thing with eggs and honey really works." She replied. "By the way, did you get all the stuff we need?"
"Ezra and the boys have them on the other car." Aria replied.
"Spence, is it true that all of the students disappeared in the woods?" Emily tried to make small talk. She needed to feel bold.
"Of course it is! Can you find another reason we are going into the woods?!" Spencer snapped and Emily could tell she was nervous, which was unusual. Good ol' Spencer had nerves of steel.
"Guys, can we please stop talking? If we don't arrive there in time to trap Alison, those students will die!" Hanna set them in a rush as Spencer turned on the engine and started driving.
Emily looked at her and noticed those black stripes on her golden blond hair.
"What happened to your hair?" Emily asked.
"I figured that a blond head lurking in the dark would draw too much attention." Hanna explained. "Also, I don't want you to mistake me for Alison in case you need-"
"Hanna!" Aria interrupted her.
"In case you need what?" Emily's heart was beating so hard it pounded off her chest.
"Em, we talked before you arrived..." Spencer began and the words felt too delicate, as if she was going to say something that would wreck Emily's world.
"And…?"
"We decided that we might have to kill Alison." Hanna blurted out and the girls watched Emily's face tighten.
As if Emily could just kill Alison.
