Chapter 7: seventh fraying

Summary:

finally getting a good nights sleep (also im so sorry this chapter is a little 'fourth-wall-breaky')

Chapter Text

“Ah! There you are! I was worried you were lost out there in the woods, or something had got you!” Your aunt Libby chortled, shaking her head as she stepped forward to hug you.

you furrowed your brows and glanced up to see Bill looking collected, his form flickering up and down, easygoing.

”um- hi Aunty” you mumbled, narrowing your brows a bit as you tried to comprehend what was happening. “I wanted to ask you about uh- that”

you pointed straight at bill, and he raised an eyelid at you.

“Oh! That old thing? That’s just my dreamcatcher” your aunt looked past bill and narrowed her eyes at the woven sigil. "i really have been meaning to take it down, just haven't got around to it i suppose" she shook her head with a meaningful chuckle, not meeting your eyes.

you frowned as she looked straight through bill, but continued. "what's in the middle? some uh- illuminati symbol?" you gently stepped forward towards your aunt, feeling crackling beneath your skin that was never there when you talked to her. you didn't know where bill was, you didn't care, not anymore. "Seems pretty important to keep it up there for so long, huh?"

she flicked her gaze to you for a second, worry creasing her brow. "Honey, are you okay? you don't- seem to be acting yourself..." she gingerly reached a hand out to you.

"oh I'm fiiine, don't worry about me, I'm more worried about the fact you were most likely in a cult! hey Libby?" you hissed, hair prickling at the back of your neck, sneering at her open palm, something vile and bloodthirsty welling at the back of your throat like gore.

”how do you- it was nothing okay? I was just-“

”just what LLIB? You know i never remember you having that name when I was younger” where WAS Bill? You couldn’t see him anywhere, and the weird glow that surrounded him seemed to be everywhere. In an impulsive act you snatched the dreamcatcher from the windowsill and held it in your hands, ignoring your aunts yelp.

it was warm in your grasp, the twine almost metallic to the touch, and as you stared into the eye, it shifted into a gleeful crescent. your skin bubbled where it touched it, turning a pure black as the boils started creeping up your arm. “SHIT!” You dropped it immediately and the prickling went away, everything going back to normal just like that.

”are you okay?” Your aunt gently murmured, holding out her help tentatively, still afraid by the shift of your actions from the usual you.

oh COME ON, bastard!” a familiar voice screeched, grabbing into your brain as a piercing headache exploded across your skull and swirled in your temples. “Why don’t you let me do anything? You should learn not to panic as much as you do

a ball of bile grew in your throat and you finally met your aunts gaze, and with a lick of your dry lips, you finally took her hand and let her help you up. “I’m sorry” whether you were saying that to her or the demon was uncertain.

”it’s okay darling, I should’ve been truthful to you, you’ve been an adult for so long now” she sighed. “I suppose I’m just shameful of it, I’ll talk about it at dinner, okay?”

you nodded. “Okay, I’m fine with that, and don’t tell me anything you don’t feel safe talking about, okay?”

she gave you a thankful smile and walked off to start dinner as she composed her thoughts.

Where was all this compassion hiding? I sure couldn’t find it, your brain is just layers and layers of random knowledge that makes no sense” Bill ranted, his form finally peeling itself into your consciousness, floating with an unamused expression across its features and the scar glitching hastily.

”and where were you?” You whispered in a hasty breath. “As soon as she answered you disappeared!” Your footsteps up the stairs were louder than your words.

Bill didn’t answer right away, just darting ahead of you with his ‘back’ faced towards the staircase.

as you finally stepped into the upper floor you decided to ignore his sour mood and whatever had happened with your body. “So, we know that she can’t see you, so presumably no one can, that’s helpful”

Bill made a small noncommittal noise as you opened the door to your room, the rush of pine filling your nose and lulling you into a calmer state, though it didn't seem to work as well on Bill.

"bland" he stated with a raised eyelid, observing the room quickly before his pupil snapped back to you. "what was the point in coming here again?"

you regarded him skeptically as the demon placed himself on your bed, graceful as a feather with all the charm of a snake; surprisingly beautiful once you gain familiarity and inquisition, but ready to lash out at any moment at the simplest provocation.

beautiful? what am i thinking, this is a triangle for gods sake! you shook your head and opened your mouth to respond to Bills query, but something stopped you. fuck. he was kinda hot. lithe shape (literally) with long eyelashes and a half shut eye with a lid that glimmered like someone had draped stardust across it, alongside a yellow bricked 'torso', pure obsidian black arms and that jagged scar ripping through his eye and body, Bill was, in your humble opinion, not too bad looking for an interdimensional demon.

"you good there kid?" he widened his eye a bit and along the inside of his lid you could see the jutting of what looked to be teeth, firmly pulled back into the 'gums'. you hadn't really thought about how he would eat, you doubted he would need to, but to see some functionality of how bills body worked, whether it was what his original species had or some kind of mutation bill crafted along the way, was fascinating. "you've got a blank eye stare"

"what's that supposed to mean?" you stepped in front of Bill and gently tilted your head so you could face him properly. Bill simply crossed his legs and propped up his undereye with the palm of his hand, long almost talonlike fingers tapping his face. you swore they didn't look like that before.

"it means you're either disassociating or checking me out, and right now i would prefer the first one" he sneered.

you scoffed. "right now? so maybe later you would prefer if i was having a look?" you were joking obviously, but Bill gave you a one-up and tapped where the scar splintered through his body, fingertip sliding into it before coming out clean.

"maybe, but right now I'm pissed of at you for not letting me stay in that meat knobbler of yours and interrogate your aunt better, so you're not gonna get to look at any of this" he ran his hands up his sides, glaring at you all the while.

"i thought we were past calling my brain weird things" you remarked.

"we're never gonna be past that, get used to it" Bill inspected the end of his fingers like a person looking at their cuticles, his pupil flicking back and forth from point to point. "anywho~" he chimed. "you gonna answer my question? or are we just going to admire me for a bit?"

you frowned down at him, raising an eyebrow quizzically. "what question again? i was uh-" your eyes trailed down his body, attempting to rile him up. "distracted"

a harsh and drawn-out sigh came from the demon. "axolotl-forsaken...snap back to reality, (oop there goes gravity ((falls))...im sorry i'll go again, hope youre enjoying the fanfic sorry for breaking your flow :'] ) kid! why, out of every single place, in the entirety of the world, your decision was 'Gravity Falls, Aunts house, left of that gnarled willow tree in that ladys garden that looks like human genitalia"

"okay but seriously it doe-"

"I DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PUSSY WILLOW" his form spiked and flared out in every direction, glowing an angry and aggravated red, his eye swirling black where the white had once been, before Bill ran a hand back against his top hat, it bending like hair and popping back into place. the red seeped out of his body like blood being pulled from a syringe as the triangle finally returned to his usual shade. "what i do care about is you answering my question, why did you decide to go to your aunts house instead of your old apartment back in the big city? could've escaped from this hell hole, so why didn't you?"

you bit the inside of your mouth haphazardly and shrugged. "it just seemed like the most logical thing to do, i doubt ive got anything left for me back at the sharehouse... knowing my roommate he probably sold most of the stuff i didn't take with me at the pawnshop to buy crack or pay off gambling debt." another tether cut. "and you didnt give me much time in the moment, it all happened pretty quick"

you thought about it for a second, it was true, that in this moment of time your aunts house really was the safest option, with a formerly cultist aunt and the demon she worshipped (who had gone back to picking at his fingers.) it was...peculiar. and for more reasons than one. since meeting Bill your impulses had gone down insanely far, you didnt have this nagging feeling at the back of your throat or a spiraling in your stomach, this premonition that everything was soon to end so what was the point? you felt more...tethered. (insert reader pointing at the screen Leo DiCaprio style except hopefully with less dubiously aged girlfriends)

maybe cause you actually were, you were tethered to this thing, this bundle of mad power and manipulation spun into triangular form topped with a hat and bowtie made of shadows and leeches. this thing possible of tearing apart galaxies with its bare hands, wreaking the world in a pyre of blue flames that licked at its eye as it grew bigger and bigger, fueled off the screams of its prey, was currently sitting on your bed, legs crossed, in a sassy pose staring at you expectantly.

you don't know what you did to deserve this chance, this point in a life you didn't want. but to your surprise you needed to take it, to grab it by the horns and plunge it into your eyes.

you wanted to live.

"well thats depressing" you were snapped from your daydream and for a moment there you thought he was talking about your new found will of life, but soon you realised he was talking about your crackhead roommate. "shitty living conditions to less shitty companionship, am i right? dont answer that, i know i am" Bill leant back and placed himself somehow on your bed, basically molding with the cloth from a side view.

"i uh- yeah, yeah definitly" you scratched the back of your neck awkwardly. maybe he didnt hear all of that, he cant read my mind right now, that was only before. but the way he looked at you, a blank almond eye that gleamed with the knowledge of a thousand millennia's, said different.

the demon raised his arm, invading your 3D space in a way you didnt think he could. "soooo, kid-"

"im not a kid"

Bill paused, his fist suddenly clenched as he hissed through what sounded to be teeth. "i get that, its a nickname, and you know, youre a lot younger than my previous exchangers of pleasantries, i can call you a kid without you being one"

"oh yes, all those eldritch beings youre having tea with." you pitched your voice up and pretended like you were pouring something into a cup. "why, i absolutely love what youve down with the screaming faces in the walls, vomit green really does liven the place up a bit, would you like some more babies blood?"

you couldnt tell if Bills crescent eye was from amusement or befuddlement, but he simply shook the top part of his body and continued. "no, my last dealmaker was actually a human, sixty something, i never checked, you humans age like peeled fruit. badly" he stared into the distance slightly. "too quickly rotten"

"jesus- sixty?" you smiled lopsidedly. "did you call him grandpa?"

Bill tilted himself and closed his eye. "i called him sixer"

"oh..." you trailed off. "oh i see, was that his name?"

Bill opened his eye just a crack to squint at you in humour. "pfft- no, his name was stanford, he just had six fingers, picked it up from someone, thought it was funny"

"yeah you would wouldnt you" you tap your chin. "what about me? want to single anything out about my appearence and make it into a nickname?"

he snorted. "oh please, we all know thats impossible and unnesasary without making assumptions about you" Bill slid upwards so he could sit back down on the edge of the bed. "theres already been too much backstory and age setting for a totally blank character to slip yourself into, so why not! lets add in some extra things, now wont we dirt'eyes?"

Y/N crossed her arms in front of her busty chest, her green shirt barely keeping them in, her hazel orbs staring straight into Bills dominant black pupil, watching as he stood up in his humanoid form, bowing slightly in a twinky manner and winking at her, which was more like blinking as his other eye was covered by an eyepa-

Y/N folded his arms in front of his burly torso, his green shirt tearing at the sleeves, his dark brown orbs staring straight into Bills submissive black pupil, watching as he gently crossed his legs in his humanoid form, waving a hand at him in a twinky manned and winking at him, which was more like blinking as his other eye was covered by an eyepa-

Y/N did a little twirl, their dark shadowy full gothic dress'suit ruffling beneath them, their purple orbs staring straight into Bills switchy black pupil, watching as he did a somersault in his humanoid form and then transcended dimensions in a twinky manne-

you slammed back into your body, huffing desperately for air as it felt like your skin was being pulled and tightened and stretched around you, you tentatively grabbed each shoulder with the opposite hand, causing your green shirt to move with it as your eyes met Bills pupil, watching as his triangular form gently rose up to swoop down to your level.

"want a specified nickname now?" he chortled.

"I WASNT SERIOUS ABOUT IT!" you cried out, rubbing at your eyes desperately, the iris feeling like someone was pricking it over and over again.

you wiped something wet from your eyes, something you suspected to be tears.

"yeah well its always good to check, that better kid?" Bill gently placed a hand over your eyes, the jolting pins and needles running across your face, but when he took his hand away, they were gone, and so was the wetness that had been streaming down your face. you nodded and wiped your palm absentmindedly against your bed.

dark red staining the light blue.
