It wasn’t part of my usual routine, and I’m not the kind of person who just decides to go on a late-night walk. Especially not for something as mundane as a convenience store run. I knew for a fact I could’ve done it in the morning. But instead? It felt like something—some force—was dragging me out the door, keeping me wide awake until I got it done.

Summary
Gasping for breath, desperate hands cling to a large piece of debris, only to be washed over by another wave. Her body drags towards the depths. Only weakening fingers clawing into the wood prevent such a demise. ‘Is this it?’ She wonders desperately while her eyes flitter across the rising waves. Her eyes fall closed a second too long, and flashes of blue and white blur across her eyelids before being overtaken by red and green. The sound of blood pumping in her ears muffle the storm raging around her.
Eyes fly open again only to be pummeled by salty water. ‘Is everyone okay?’ She chokes and coughs out the nauseating liquid as her stomach knots painfully. ‘I..’ Fingers slip against the polished finish of the wooden surface she clings to. Dull nails dig in, pushing shallow crescents into the finish. ‘I can’t…’ Lightening flashes overhead as the darkening clouds above twist in the whipping wind. Her fingers pulse in pain as they slide and with one last cracking wail, she’s drug below the surface.
That was then and now; a cranky lighthouse keeper and his friendly island whale. Oh how things have changed.
