Work Text:
National City was abuzz with the hum of activity, the skyline glittering under the late afternoon sun. Kara Danvers, better known to the city as Supergirl, sat at her desk in CatCo Worldwide Media. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, but her mind was elsewhere. Specifically, it was on Lena Luthor, the brilliant and beautiful CEO of L-Corp. Kara had admired Lena from the moment they met, but over time, those feelings had deepened into something more intense and confusing.
Kara found herself daydreaming about Lena during meetings, her heart skipping a beat whenever they texted or met for lunch. Yet, she was terrified of revealing her feelings, worried about the impact it might have on their friendship. She couldn’t bear the thought of losing Lena, even if it meant never knowing what might have been.
Meanwhile, across town at L-Corp, Lena Luthor was immersed in a board meeting, discussing the latest technological advancements her company was pioneering. Despite her focus on work, a part of her mind was always on Kara. Lena had always prided herself on her composure and professionalism, but Kara made her feel vulnerable in a way she had never experienced before. She had fallen for Kara, but fear of rejection and the potential fallout kept her silent.
It was a typical Wednesday evening when Alex Danvers, Kara’s sister and a DEO agent, suggested a night out. “You both need to relax,” Alex said, looking pointedly at Kara and Lena. “How about we go clubbing this Friday? It’ll be fun.”
Kara and Lena exchanged hesitant glances but eventually agreed. They could both use a break, and spending time together outside of work sounded appealing. Besides, Alex was persuasive and had a knack for organizing nights that were hard to refuse.
As Friday night rolled around, Kara stood nervously in front of her closet, trying to decide what to wear. She wanted to look good for Lena but also didn’t want to seem like she was trying too hard. After much deliberation, she settled on a simple but elegant blue dress that brought out her eyes.
Lena, on the other hand, was in her penthouse, staring at her reflection in the mirror. She chose a sleek black dress that accentuated her figure, hoping it would catch Kara’s attention. Nervous but excited, she took a deep breath and headed out to meet her friends.
The club was packed, its vibrant atmosphere pulsing with energy. The bass from the speakers thumped in their chests as they entered, the dance floor already crowded with people moving to the music. Alex led the way to a reserved table near the dance floor, ordering a round of drinks to get things started.
They started with light conversation, but as the night progressed and the drinks kept coming, the group began to loosen up. Kara and Lena found themselves laughing and talking more freely, the alcohol lowering their inhibitions.
“Kara, you look amazing tonight,” Lena said, her words slurring slightly from the drinks. She reached out and touched Kara’s hand, her touch sending a jolt of electricity through Kara’s body.
“Thanks, Lena,” Kara replied, blushing. “You look beautiful too.”
The combination of the loud music, flashing lights, and alcohol created a heady mix that quickly went to their heads. Kara, who rarely drank, was feeling particularly tipsy, her usually sharp senses dulled by the alcohol.
Lena, who was a bit more accustomed to drinking, found herself more inebriated than she had been in a long time. The world around them blurred, and inhibitions began to fade.
They danced together, laughing and enjoying the moment. At some point, Alex decided to capture the fun and pulled out her phone, recording snippets of their night. The video captured the two women dancing closely, their smiles radiant and genuine.
“Hey, Kara!” Lena shouted over the music, her words slurring slightly. “I have to tell you something!”
Kara giggled, swaying to the music. “What is it, Lena?”
Lena leaned in closer, her face inches from Kara’s. “I… I think I love you.”
Kara blinked, her alcohol-fogged mind struggling to process the words. “You love me?”
“Yeah,” Lena said, nodding emphatically. “I’ve been in love with you for so long, Kara.”
Kara felt a surge of emotions, her heart pounding. “Lena, I love you too!”
They laughed, the weight of their unspoken feelings lifting in the haze of their drunken state. They embraced, the world around them disappearing as they held each other.
Unbeknownst to them, Alex had captured the entire exchange on video, her eyes widening in surprise. She decided to let them have their moment and continued recording sporadically throughout the night.
Kara woke up the next morning with a pounding headache and a sense of disorientation. She groaned, shielding her eyes from the sunlight streaming through the windows. As she tried to sit up, she realized she wasn’t in her own bed.
She glanced around, recognizing Lena’s bedroom. Panic set in momentarily until she saw Lena lying beside her, still asleep. Kara’s mind raced, trying to remember how they ended up here.
“Morning,” Lena mumbled, slowly waking up. She looked at Kara, her eyes widening in surprise. “Kara? What happened last night?”
Kara shook her head, wincing at the pain. “I don’t really remember. We were at the club, and then… everything’s a blur.”
Lena sat up, clutching her head. “Same here. But I remember feeling happy.”
Kara managed a small smile. “Me too. How about we get some coffee and try to piece this together?”
They stumbled into the kitchen, still in their clothes from the night before, and found Alex already there, a knowing smirk on her face.
“Morning, you two,” Alex said, handing them cups of coffee. “How are you feeling?”
“Like we got hit by a truck,” Kara muttered, taking a sip of her coffee.
Lena nodded in agreement. “Yeah, pretty much.”
Alex chuckled. “Well, you two were quite the pair last night.”
Kara and Lena exchanged confused glances. “What do you mean?” Kara asked.
Alex pulled out her phone, opening the video from the night before. “I think you should see this.”
They watched in stunned silence as the video played, showing their drunken confessions and subsequent embrace. Kara felt her face flush with embarrassment, and Lena’s eyes widened in shock.
“Oh my God,” Lena whispered. “We… we really said that?”
Kara nodded, feeling equally mortified. “Yeah, we did.”
After a moment of stunned silence, Alex left them alone to talk, sensing they needed privacy.
Kara and Lena sat down at the kitchen table, the awkwardness palpable. Kara took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts.
“Lena, I’m so sorry,” Kara began. “I didn’t mean to—”
Lena interrupted, shaking her head. “No, Kara, don’t apologize. I meant what I said last night. I’ve been in love with you for a long time. I just never had the courage to tell you.”
Kara looked into Lena’s eyes, seeing the sincerity there. “I meant it too, Lena. I’ve been so afraid of ruining our friendship that I never told you how I really feel.”
Lena reached across the table, taking Kara’s hand in hers. “We were both scared. But maybe it’s time we stop hiding and be honest with each other.”
Kara squeezed Lena’s hand, a sense of relief washing over her. “You’re right. I don’t want to hide anymore.”
They spent the rest of the morning talking, sharing their fears and hopes. It was a cathartic experience, the weight of unspoken words finally lifted.
As they finished their coffee, Lena looked at Kara, a soft smile on her lips. “So, what now?”
Kara smiled back, feeling a sense of clarity. “We take it one step at a time. But I want to be with you, Lena. I’ve wanted it for so long.”
Lena’s smile widened, her heart swelling with happiness. “I want that too, Kara.”
They leaned in, their lips meeting in a gentle kiss. It was a simple gesture, but it felt like the beginning of something beautiful.
In the weeks that followed, Kara and Lena navigated their new relationship with care and excitement. There were challenges, of course, but they faced them together, leaning on each other for support.
Their friends noticed the change, the way they seemed more at ease, more connected. Alex, ever the protective sister, kept a watchful eye but was ultimately happy to see Kara so content.
National City continued to thrive, with Supergirl and Lena Luthor standing as symbols of hope and resilience. And while their duties often kept them busy, they always found time for each other, building a future based on trust and love.
Love had always been a complicated thing for both Kara and Lena, each carrying their own burdens and fears. But in each other, they found a kindred spirit, someone who understood and accepted them completely.
Their story was just beginning, a tale of two people who, despite their differences and the obstacles in their way, found their way.
