Chapter Text
Mikaela looked around his pristine white hospital room,he glanced at the window watching people passing by, he slowly shifted his head looking up at the fluorescent light he hastily put up his hand to cover his eyes.
Then he looked at the monitors to his left taking notice of his non-existent vitals.
Then he looked over to the edge of the bed that he was currently laying in, turning his head slightly to notice the raven-haired boy grasping one of his hands.
“Yuu-chan” Mikaela said in a slightly hoarse soft tone of voice, Yuuichirou looked at Mikaela tilting his head slightly giving him a confused look “Hmm?” he replied.
Mikaela quelled his confusion by replying “Oh it's nothing, I just wanted to see your emerald eyes one last time” closing his eyes and giving Yuuichirou a smile.
Yuuichirou looked at Mika giving him a soft smile while squeezing the hand that he was holding tightly “I can’t wait for you to finally be human” he said with tears forming in his eyes.
Mikaela removed his glance and pondered slightly about all the things that he was going to be able to do once he was finally human he could eat, sleep, and his most favorite of all cry.
Then a human lightly knocked on the door before forcefully coming into his room interrupting his thinking, she asked “Ok, are you Mikaela Hyakuya?” he responded by shaking his head.
Then the nurse followed up her question by saying “Ok, then we're all ready for you” This is the thing he was waiting for. He was finally going to be rid of his vampiric curse and finally be able to be human with his Yuu-chan.
Yuuichirou looked at Mika one last time “I can't believe this is finally happening” he said while giving Mika the brightest smile. Mikaela replied for a final time as a vampire saying “I can’t either, can you pinch me or something” He chuckled slightly after saying that.
Some more hospital staff came into his room and started to take him to the operation room.
On the way there he was instructed by one woman to count back from 10 with a mask over his face. He complied with what she said “10…9…8…7” As he continued he felt himself getting sleepier.
“3…2…1…” As he said those final numbers everything went black he couldn't see, hear, smell despite his enhanced senses there was nothing.

“How long will it take for him to wake up?” Yuuichirou said with bated breath while looking over Mikaela.
“It will take some time for all of the excess blood that he's ingested to get out of his system” The nurse replied.
“I know that….I-It’s just” Yuuichirou sighed while trying to formulate the words “He's my last family member he’s t-the only one….I have left I-I I can't lose him.”
“I understand that, he’s only been out for a few hours, at most it will take 3 days” The nurse responded trying to comfort Yuuichirou.
The nurse exited the room leaving Yuuichirou to look over Mikaela. He started to quietly sob with tears rolling down his face in the fear of Mikaela not waking up.
Over the next 2 days Yuuichirou would not leave Mikaela's side, he told his friends before the procedure that he wanted to be left alone, they did respect his wishes however they wanted to check up on him.
Shinoa knocked on the door before entering, “Yuu-san how are you, I know you wanted to be left alone but I miss bothering you and so does the rest of the gang” She said while displaying an air of confidence walking to Yuuichirou to give him a hug.
She stopped in her path when she noticed his somber personality instead of the bubbly, confident one that she was used to. “Yuu-san, I know this must be difficult for you but when was the last time you ate or slept?.”
Yuuichirou wiped his head to Shinoa furrowing his brows into a line slightly squinting his eyes and giving her a cold expression “It doesn't matter I need to be here for him” He said in a stern tone of voice.
Shinoa lifted her hand and placed it on his shoulder and gave a slight squeeze
“I know you're scared, trust me. I understand how you feel, but I'm pretty sure he would be mad at you if he woke up and saw you didn't take care of yourself” She said in a soft tone of voice.
He looked up at her, relaxed his face into a more defeated look and sighed “I know, I know, you're right I guess I could go to the hospital cafeteria to get something to eat and some coffee.”
He paused for a moment before continuing.
“I know what I said before ‘bout wanting to be alone but I wouldn't mind if you guys came from time to time and checked on me like you did…… it would be really nice if you did.”
Shinoa looked at Yuuichirou and gave a small smile and replied “Of course me in the gang can come and check up on you, you know they missed you a lot.”
She gave a small smirk when she finished talking.
He lifted up his eyebrows and opening his eyes and shock he thought to himself ‘I know they care about me, but I didn't know it was that much especially Kimizuki’ He grabbed both of her hands cupping them inside of his own and replied “Thank you, Shinoa means a lot to me you of all people know how much he matters to me.”
“Of course it's no problem at all and besides I wouldn't miss any opportunity to call you a cherry boy” She said while giving a large smirk, putting her hand over her mouth and laughing then standing over Yuuichirou and flicking him in the forehead.
“Oww, what was that for!, that was soooo uncalled for” Putting a hand on his forehead and rubbing it slightly to try to quell the slight stinging pain that he felt.
Shinoa snickered at the side of his pain then she grabbed his wrist pulled him up from the chair and led him out of the room “Now come on let's get some food in you, god only knows the last time you ate”

He went along with her demands stumbling slightly then walking on his own pace when he reached the cafeteria he noticed that all of his friends were there Yoichi, Kimizuki, Mitsuba were all sitting at a square shape table when they saw Yuuichirou, Yoichi jumped out of his chair and ran to give Yuuichirou a hug “Yuu-kun how are you, are you okay, I know this must be really hard on you but don't worry we're all here for you”
Yuuichirou looked down at Yoichi hugging him, He was able to free his arm and patted his head “thanks… I really appreciate it” he choked a little bit in his voice while saying that, slight tears forming around his eyes because of the compassion of his friends
“Ok, I still wanna get some food and coffee before I go back to Mika's room so, Yoichi, I think it would be best if you could let me go” he said, chuckling that last bit.
Yoichi complied with what Yuu said and Yuu slowly walked to the coffee station and started to make himself a cup. As he was doing that he could help but think about all the things he was going to be able to do with Mika once he was human. They could eat food together, go to the beach without having to worry about Mika bursting in flames and they could possibly go on missions and go to school together.
No matter how much Yuu hated school, with all the work and doing nothing but sit in class and listen all day and had it in his mind that going to school with mika would be a lot more interesting.
Once his coffee was done he made his way to where the rest of his friends were sitting however he was still a bit up in the clouds of his mind, not paying attention to what they were saying just thinking about one with Mika.
“Yuu-san, are you paying attention” Shinoa asked in a slightly irritated manner
Yuu almost jumped out of his seat when Shinoa called out to him “shit, you scared the crap out of me” he paused briefly before continuing “Yeah you caught me I wasn't paying attention could you repeat what you were asking me, or at least what you were talking about.”
Shinoa gave a huge sigh then put a slight smirk on her face “Fine since you were asking so nicely I'll repeat my question to you” She said in our sarcastic tone before continuing.
“Mitsu, I, Yoichi and kimizuki, we're discussing while you were getting your coffee that maybe once Mika recovers that he should join our squad since we're the closest people to him naturally.”
Yuu stood up pushing the chair away from him and slamming his hands onto the table “That's a great idea!” He said very excitedly with light in his eyes and very loudly so everyone can hear him.
“Sorry..” He muttered to himself quietly before grabbing his chair and sitting back down.
They all talked for a little bit more before they got up and all walked to Mika’s room.They couldn't stay for long because even though humanity was restored and the war between the humans and the vampires was over with the signing of a peace treaty. The Moon Demon Company and the JIDA still had to quell small uprisings or vampires who did not respect the treaty and believed they could rise up and overthrow the humans again.
Which ment Kimizuki,Shinoa,Mitsuba and Yoichi were all still going on mission while Yuu stayed by Mika’s side as he was recovering.
“Once Mika recovers and officially joins the team I think those stupid missions will get a lot funner” Yuu said confidently while walking to Mika's room.
Kimizuki chimed in saying “Funner isn't a word idiot” while pushing up his glasses.
Yuu retorted “Oh yeah you're so smart four eyes!”
Yoichi got in between the two boys butting heads and tried to quell and calm down the situation “Guys lets not fight, we're in a hospital after all and I doubt the first thing Mikaela wants to hear as a human is you two fighting.”
Yuu turned his eyes down and tilted his head down trying to hide his slight blush and embarrassment then with a sigh he muttered “yeah..I guess you're right let's not fight…But only for now!”
“Finally one thing we can agree on” said Kimizuki rolling his eyes.

The gang all made it to Mika's room and stayed in there for a few minutes then just as Yuu was saying goodbye to his friends they all heard a soft grunt coming from the hospital bed.
“Hmm” said Mika as he was opening his eyes for the first time.
"Oh my god!, Mika you're awake!” Yuu said excitedly, throwing his arms and wrapping them around Mika's neck giving him a large hug.
“Yes I am Yuu-chan, I guess I can assume the operation was a success” He said, giving a light smile and taking notice of all the people in his room.
“Oh, I have something to give you, the doctor told me to do this the moment you wake up” Yuu said, as if a light bulb went off then he turned his back to Mika and walked to the bedside table, opened up a drawer and handed a mirror to Mika.
Mika grabbed the mirror and looked at his face and noticed it looked a lot older than from when he last looked at it. The biggest change he noticed was his eyes were no longer the scarlet color which he hated and reminded him of what he once was but instead they were his beautiful ocean blue eyes.
His eyes widened at his own reflection in an instant he put his hand over his mouth to start to form in his eyes he put down the mirror and started to cry his first tears as a human.
“Mika don’t cry I didn't mean to make you cry!” Yuu said trying to comfort Mika
Almost in an instant when we could start to solve the rest of his friends plus Yuu started to comfort him.
“Guys these aren't sad tears….these are happy tears I'm just so glad that I'm human now……it's a little overwhelming… with all of these new emotions I just can’t help but cry.”
Sighs of relief washed over the group over Mika's answer. Eventually nurses came in and helped Mika to get up to take his first steps as a human again he stumbled a little bit but began walking in no time certainly a lot faster than anyone ever expected.
Everyone knew he was making amazing progress however they also knew deep down inside that it was going to take a lot of work for him to be strong again. Let alone strong enough to go on missions with them again but they knew that he was a hard worker and that no matter how hard it would be he would push through.
For the sake of Yuu-chan and the rest of his new friends he would work twice as hard to regain all of his strength and even harder to be with them yet again.
