Falling.
Falling.
Falling.
One day, you were just sleeping as usual and suddenly there's nothing around you. Yet here you are doing absolutely nothing.
It felt like everything had stopped in time and you kept on rocketing down to a void of darkness.
Shuddering as you shut your eyes and as if you were looking directly on your PC screen, a text appeared in your gaze.
— welcome to wuthering waves — [male reader] [last name] / male rover age : ??? level : ??? appearance : raven hair, gold hues .
Joking inside your head to whatever AI system that's running in your head, Lemme guess my level is like... 999 or... actually I don't know.

At first glance, you were lulled into a deep slumber. Unbeknownst to you, there stood you with a silver haired lady in space.
Stars and debris flew everywhere, shrouded in colors and a shining circular star behind. Your own figure stood in front of her, and she traced your arm as a glowing gold orb levitated above her hand.
She pushed the orb inside of you and intertwined your hand with her own. Indeed, worry and faith had filled in her very soul. Her other hand pulled out a small globe, it was full of your memories.
You won't remember who you were, where you came from, and clearly everything. She traced your features, she designed you just like the way she wanted.
Black hair that was tied to a thin ponytail, black attire, a white gourd on your back and... your eyes should shine like the golden gemstones everyone would never expected.
A frequency on your palm where it was slightly hidden by the gloves.
Once again, you were falling in a void of nothingness. You were able to catch noises like frequencies and distortions within the space you're going through.
You grimaced upon the sound and struggled to bring your own hands to cover your ears. And finally –
—you reached to a sea of water, nearly drowning and wisps of gold brought your way out. You floated on the water surface to see a city from afar, a sunset's view and what was weird is... you were upside down than the gravity shown on the land.
Ugh... my head... You winced in pain, clutching your head when a wave of headache shocked throughout your mind.
Passing out again and a screen popped up as a text typed on the screen.
Destination successful ✅
You are the Male Rover, call yourself as your actual name. You have all the access of weaponry for your gourd is at an impossibly rate.
Systems will never communicate with you, either do I. The rules are:
Nothing.
However, I do have a warning that many characters will be themed as suggestive, affectionate, and etc. people around you.
Disbelief and you scoffed in thought, Oh, great, a harem fudge.
Let me correct you, it is a "Reverse Harem"
The fuc—
Therefore, I shall leave and you may continue your journey without most of your memories.
Thank you, Rover.
The AI voice disappeared, as your mind swarmed into another black screen and you wished you were dreaming at this point, Sighhh... I don't know what's the role of a "Rover". Knocking myself out I don't even know what I'll do here...
"Looks like drowning... strange..." An unfamiliar female voice echoed in your ears, she has brought you out.
A savior perhaps? Uh huh.
"No visible signs of trauma. Breathing seems... normal. Heart rate... should be fast... I think," Slowly, you opened your eyes to see a long black haired girl or woman(?) , wearing a black-blue outfit.
A frequency hid behind her bangs. She noticed your gaze and smiled, "Oh! You're awake..." She was kneeling next to your laying body, using her wind move to check your health.
"Let me see! Let me see!" An energetic voice caught your attention, moving your eyes to a red haired woman or a girl too (?).
Her amber eyes stared in relief, kneeling to your right. Her hair in a braid and tied up on her forehead, how odd to style your hair. Her features were more... "revealing" than the other and she had freckles.
A obvious frequency marked across her stomach vertically. "Thank goodness you're awake! Or I'll have to try my last ditch move— Emergency Skills for Junior Patrollers, Lesson One: CPR!" The rednette mimicked her hands doing the compressing technique of CPR.
Okay... who are they? You squinted your eyes. Easily sitting up on the ground and stand up, and the red haired nervously admitted, "Erm, never did it on any living person though, heh..."
"...Chixia,"
The other woman kindly scolded and stood up.
Another wave of pain hit your head and you clutched your temples, Ugh...
"Sorry, sorry. You just woke up, and here I am, chattin' up a storm," The red haired known as Chixia assured, standing up and rubbing her head at her mistake.
A pair of gray eyes stared back at you in concern, "Are you alright? Do you feel any discomfort?" The Gentle Female Voice asked, clasping her hands together.
You shook your head and replied, "No, I'm fine. You two are?"
"You can call me Chixia... and she's Yangyang!" Chixia introduced with a grin over her face.
Examining your surroundings, autumn-like trees and leaves as well as vines stood everywhere. You three had been between a patch and it doesn't seem to be some lair for these two trustful people.
Focused on the area and you curiously questioned, "Where am I?"
"We are in the Gorge of Spirits. It's on the outskirts of Jinzhou, Huanglong," Yangyang answered.
If you could remember a bare of memories, 'Loong' in chinese means dragon. So it means you're somewhere in its familiarity spot.
Many countries of the Eastern should be related to dragons and the yin-yang itself. In other words, Jinzhou is could be located in the Eastern part of this world.
Glancing on your outfit, there was nothing wrong about you but... at the same time, your clothes weren't accordingly towards Jinzhou's tradition. In comparison with Chixia and Yangyang's attire...
"Your attire doesn't seem local. Are you a roving traveler from afar, or... someone returning home?" Yangyang hesitated to point out.
Frowning and you exhaled, "I... I don't remember,"
"So you don't know why you're here, where you're from, or who you are..." Yangyang furrowed her brows and you gave a nod.
Chixia narrowed and recalled, "Baizhi didn't tell us you'd have these aftereffects when you wake up,"
"...Who is Baizhi?" You asked.
Yangyang replied, "She's our friend, too. She sent us here to patrol and... she also didn't have much information about when you were unconscious,"
Then a breeze was softly blown to your direction, and Yanyang lend her hand out.
White-blue feather shaped particles formed on her covered hands, fading to thin air and Yangyang informed, "The wind has brought us a warning. The Etheric Sea is converging. It seems that a new Tacet Field is taking shape,"
There were a bunch of intel you couldn't even comprehend. Nonetheless, you can tell these two including Baizhi too were from a city called Jinzhou.
They held frequencies same like you, and perhaps every each citizen have their own. That sea you were in was probably the Etheric Sea, and a Tacet Field? Sounds like its dangerous thing.
"What do you mean?" You quizzed.
"That means it's probably going to get dangerous here soon," Chixia says, hands on her hips.
A ping rumbled behind Chixia that turned out to be her gourd similar to yours, but a dynamic black color and a white symbol of a dragon.
Chixia brought out her gourd, which was sending alarmic noises and its circular sides flickered to a yellow glow. Your brows rose in surprise, so the gourds aren't just only me...
Chixia scowled in frustration, "Ugh, I knew it. Our gourds are out of service because of the Etheric's Sea influence. We can't send message or receive for help now. We better hurry up to meet up with Baizhi at our gathering spot and get outta' here,"
Hmmm? Oh right! Chixia's gaze fixated onto your "astonished' expression, and she gave a reassuring smile, "Guess you really can't recall a thing, but don't worry!"
"If you got any questions, we can talk as we move. Yangyang and I will give you the full scoop, every little detail, from the get-go!" Chixia added.
Before going there was one more question from Yangyang, "Rover... can we call you that for now before you can remember your true name?"
Name? What's my name again..
[̷̢̨̹̬̪̥̮̺̃̔Ļ̴̭̠̲͈̮̹̉̿͒̊͑â̴͈͕̈ͅs̶̛̖̬̲̘̠̟̊͋̓̈̅ť̷̨̹͖͝ ̴̧̢̣͐͆ǹ̵̛̛͓͚̭͓͔̮̹̯̪͙̑̉̍à̴̡̟̜͌̍́͠͠m̶͙̞̹̩͓̰̟̈́̐̋̍̈́͒͐ë̷̮̫̙̭̰̱͍̝̥́́̕]̴̛̙͌̓̃̊̆̊̄̓͝ ̷̢͇̙̣̼̯̻̘̬͙͗̀͘[̵̪͚͙̫͙̤͔͇̠̽M̵̧̻̠̦̘̍͊̅͌̂̇̿̒͜ͅą̷̪͓͍͉̟̱͎͆̿͆ͅl̶̩̻̹͉̳͉͉͔̭͆é̸̗̬̟̣̿̌̅́ ̸̞͙͍͇̞̋̊̄̈͗̎̓̓̓̑ŗ̵̮̂e̵̛̬̋͒̌́̽̀̿̕͜͝ą̸̛̩̬̦͓̰̹̭̳̊̾͌͑̄͋͋̀͠d̴̥͇͎͉̫̜̙̪͇̋̈́̎̅͐̔͗͜͠ẽ̸̳̗̣͉̫̥͎̲͙̆r̶̙̜̠̟͉̫̙͓͔͒̄]̷̛̙͓̳̬͋
Your lips formed to a thin line, "I believe so,"
"We shouldn't stay here. If you don't have other plans, how about leaving with us for now?" Yangyang gently requested.
You gave a small smile, "Alright,"
"Oh, that's great! Let's go together!" Chixia cheered, jogging already to go and meet up with Baizhi.
Looking back at Yangyang, who smiled and you huffed, taking a step forward. In the beginning, you began your adventure with Chixia and Yangyang, following them behind as they accompany you on their journey to get to a safe place.
"Rover, I know you can't remember a thing, but there's one thing I'm 90%... no! 100% about you! You must be a Resonator too," Chixia stated, predicting a hypothesis as you all talked on the path.
Furrowing at the unfamiliar subject, you repeated, "Resonators? ...What are they?"
Yangyang explained as simple as possible for you to understand, "People who have a Tacet Mark like us, you can tell from your Tacet Mark on the back of your hand. You have gourd, too. These are proofs that you're a Resonator. Your gourd's design looks a bit different from the ones we use though,"
Chixia joined it and told, "Also! We have Resonators who can detect the formation of Tacet Fields nearby, like what Yangyang just did. She can tell all kinds of information by reading the Streams in the wind— plus Baizhi did sense your energy, so we could locate you,"
Climbing on the rock walls and jumping over the obstacles you've all ran through. Collecting a few flowers on the way, and you saw a small pond.
You can see a mild reflection of well, you.
Broad shoulders, masculine and a long black hair tied to a small ponytail that's split into two. A black attire of a jacket with shirt sleeves, and the silverish gourd attached to the back of your waist.
— regarding to you male rover —
You tensed up at the cold-blunt tone, Who are you?
— a system. you don't remember me do you? good. i'll point out your stats, rover —
As of time had stopped on its own, you were all alone in your mindscape. This system continued to talk to you, giving unclear information.
— name, age, occupation, level = ??? —
— clear and unlocked! height = 186cm, features = black hair and gold eyes —
— that's all for now. ill appear whenever i want to. thank you rover —
A pat on your shoulder woke you up from your daze and Yangyang smiled.
You sent a smile in return and continued along the way. In which, Chixia had been long hone explaining every single thing you needed to be aware of.
For... this world, you guessed.
"It may seem nice and quiet here now, but you never know when a Tacet Discord might pop up out of nowhere!" Chixia said and they walked by a long dark-misty path.
There was a floating monster ahead and Chixia frowned, "Oh my, 'speak of the devil'!"
A fierce emotion crossed within your gaze as a pair of twin blades reappear in your grasp. You launched your attacks against the monster and with a singular flick of your wrist, you simply destroyed the monster by a wave of your spiritual pressure.
Shaking your head at the heavy feeling inside your mind, but shrug it off— thinking it might be the same headache as before.
Chixia's eyes glimmered in excitement and gasped out loud, "Amazing...! So you still remember how to fight despite having forgotten everything, wow!"
"You're learning this fighting fast, rover," Yangyang acknowledged you, a smile on her lips.
"Watch me lead the charge next time! No one messes with Ma Xiaofa—...AHEM! I mean Chixia!" Chixia corrected and Yangyang chuckled due to the fact that Chixia had nearly revealed her true name.
Stepping over the stone path as you all strolled at the sight of a very large eastern dragon statue. The head of the dragon lowly stared down, it is majestic to see this statue in your own eyes. Getting closer and you also gazed back at the dragon, making you halt your steps.
Your eyes widened and— a vision of you along the dragon that flew down towards you in your mindscape, its glowing hues ominously looking at you.
As creepy as it was you snapped out of your trance, and Yangyang noticed your uneasy expression, "What's wrong? Are you injured from the fight?"
"I'm okay, thanks for asking. Can you tell me what is this statue?" You asked, fixating your eyes back at the statue.
"This is the statue of Jué, the Sentinel of Jinzhou in the shape of Loong." Yangyang replied.
A dragon it is.
"There is one capital and six cities in Huanglong with each city having its own Sentinel. While they share some similarities in appearance, there are also differences." Intrigued, you said, "Mind explaining 'in each city having their own Sentinel?"
She nods in response, "Sentinels are present when civilizations thrive. Huanglong currently stands out with the highest number of coexisting Sentinels because of its long history, and vast land," Yangyang gestured, "Records state the Sentinels in Huanglong were once a single entity. Now they are each responsible for a part in Huanglong,"
"Naturally, there are Sentinels in other regions too, but fewer compared to Huanglong," Yangyang said and you proceed to at least pile this much knowledge up in your head.
Sentinels huh? So they're like Gods, I suggest? Maybe they held the answers I want... maybe, You thought and curiosity kills the cat, "...What do the other Sentinels look like?"
"In Huanglong, most of the Sentinels take the shape of a Loong. In other regions, they manifest in various forms..." Yangyang described, not seemingly well-informed of other regions.
"I..." You nervously pursed your lips, "I saw myself standing face to face with it,"
Eyes widened in disbelief and Yangyang blinked, "You were standing face to face with our Sentinel?"
"Yeah, strange," You sighed.
"Yes, it is." Yangyang nodded and she pointed out, "One can hardly see our Sentinel with their own eyes. Most people can only get the chance during the Appointment Ceremonies,"
Putting her palm beneath her chin and she hummed, "According to your description, you stood pretty close. Only the Sentinel's Appointed Resonator is allowed in its proximity, for now, that person is the Magistrate of Jinzhou..."
Magistrate, huh? Must be an important figure to Jinzhou? A highest official of the city, hm... You think, furrowing your brows.
"Perhaps it's just my imagination?" You opined. "Wo-hoo! Darn...! That must be an Elite-Class!"
Right, you two forgot about Chixia who immediately ran off and left you two, in order to fight those similar monsters you fought earlier.
Tacet Discords.
Yangyang expressed her doubts of Chixia getting hurt and faced you, "Chixia might be in danger. Rover, please...!"
"On it," You pulled out your swords, a familiar heaviness in your head.
Scraping and sharpening the tip of the blade on the ground, dodging the attacks from the Tacet Discords. Kicking them frrm the side, slamming your foot against their "neck" to the ground.
— [skill attack unlocked] —
— would you like to use hollow technique? —
Yes
—is your answer and your twin blades covered in a eerie energy. You gave your strikes to the enemy, swearing that your headache could go on all day and you could never get a hang over it.
As the Tacet Discords were running out of stamina, you brought up your swords. The metal fading to thin air and butterflies in a dark red color flew down on the Tacet Discords.
"Scatter,"
The butterflies exploded and destroying the Tacet Discords in the process.
"Rover, watch out!" Yangyang cried out and she rushed over, sending a wave of her winds to avoid you getting hurt by another bigger opponent.
Lifting your head to see a rift of shadows appeared out of nowhere, and a huge rock-like enemy jumped out and you jumped back upon the shockwave of its landing. You narrowed, gripping the handle of your blade and collided your blade with the other—
"Hollow,"
Turning the twin blades to one, tracing your fingers on the steel and you charged at the enemy that tries to send its punches.
You swiftly dodged them one by one before stabbing your blade to the monster behind, and your other hand reappear with a dagger.
Stabbing the dagger to its neck and the Tacet Discord roared. You then cut its neck by pulling out your sword drom its back, and it's decided that you have won this time again.
"Thanks, Yangyang,"
"No problem,"
Putting away your twin blades, you instantly jogged over to Chixia, "You okay?"
Accompanied by Yangyang, who lectured her, "Don't go running off like that, Chixia,"
Chixia scratched her cheek, "Hehehe... that was close, man you fought so well, rover! I didn't even get a chance to help and Yangyang just rushed over to protect you like a ma—"
Receiving a look from the said woman and Chixia sweatdropped, "Ahem— anyway, Yangyang was just trying to save. Come on rover, let's continue our adventure!"
"Look over there! There's a Resonance Beacon!" Chixia pointed at a pillar up ahead.
Jumping on the rocks to not fall into water and reached to the beacon as Chixia informed, "When you see a Beacon, be sure to register and activate it. It's usually safe within a 5 meter radius of a Beacon. It can protect you from danger sometimes,"
"Rover, could you hand me over your Terminal for a moment?" Yangyang held her hand out.
"Sure," You applied, giving your silver gourd to Yangyang who examined the structure.
For a while, Yangyang returned your gourd and says, "Done. It's design and system is different than ours, but your Terminal still has the data transfer and other basic functions,"
Approaching to the beacon and you activated it, turning the pillar's glow to an innocent blue.
Chixia grinned, "1st ever Resonance Beacon? Uh huh, feel good, yeah?"
"It's a new experience for me," You nodded.
Passing by into a short tunnel and light shone from its end as Yangyang stated, "We are almost at the gorge's entrance. There will be a descent, but if your Terminal's Glider module still works, it will make things easier. I'll show you how to use it,"
"Once we're outta' the gorge, there's only a short walk to reach Jinzhou!" Chixia jogged outside of the gorge's tunnel.
It was a jawdropping sight for its land's naturous beauty. From afar, you can make out of the misty structure of Jinzhou's buildings.
"Jinzhou is the safest place 'round here. The Resonance Nexus provides coverage for the whole city. Besides, we've got a protective barrier and strong fortifications!" Chixia described, hand on her hip.
Folding your arms against your chest and you commented, "Sounds impressive,"
"Hehe, right?"
Yangyang stood next to you, "Jinzhou sits between the Desorock Highland and Norfall Barrens. It's a border city and fortress. It's very critical to the safety of Huanglong,"
More unfamiliar city names? Great, you have got a lot to learn here, you rubbed your nape.
"Huh? We've agreed to meet up with Baizhi here... where is she?" Chixia looked around.
Yangyang stepped forward and brought her hand out to the wind, as particles in a shape of a feather formed and faded along.
"This is the center of the Etheric Sea...!" All of you looked up to the sky as it had gone dark and the ground rumbled.
"...A Tacet Field?" Chixia guessed
Beneath the cliff they stood upon there was a large patch of dirt as cracks formed, and by the center was similar to a frequency or a Tacet Mark.
And yes, it is a Tacet Field.
Chixia narrowed, "...When did it show up? It wasn't when we just got here,"
"But I didn't sense a hint of a Tacet Field's presence..." Yangyang admitted.
"So it appeared while we weren't looking? Like, in a blink of an eye?" Chixia gestured.
A thin line formed on her lips, as Chixia gazed up at the gray clouds, "Or maybe the Etheric Sea can tell where we are? Could it be following us?"
"The center of this Tacet Field..."
"You two, someone's there," You called out. Close to the Tacet Marking on the field stood by another woman in turquoise-dark cyan hair.
Chixia called out, "Isn't that Baizhi?! Baizhi! BAIZHI!!"
"We are too far away. Perhaps she can't hear us..." Yangyang said.
"Isn't the Tacet Field dangerous?" You quizzed.
"Freshly formed Tacet Fields have a Dormant period. During this time, it is relatively safe," Yangyang pinpointed.
Raising a brow at the ravenette girl, "You mean the Tacet Field is relatively 'safe' now?"
"My apologies. I should have said it is temporarily safe. The Dormant period of a Tacet Field varies based on its formation time. Generally, the shorter the formation time, the longer the Dormant period.
However, with a longer Dormant period, the Tacet Discords within are usually stronger. The faster a Tacet Field forms, the longer its Dormant period. For now, this Tacet Field should be safe," Yangyang defined, not exactly confirming but still can gather information about this newly Tacet Field.
Shoving your hands to the pouch of your pants, "Hopefully, we won't bump into any Tacet Discords as soon as we get there,"
"Accordin' to the Hero Plays, yes...! There's a chance for that...!" Chixia hummed.
Facing the Tacet Field below and you questioned, "Shall we go down then?"
"Right. The Glider can't carry us beyond the Tacet Field's range. Besides, Baizhi is there. We'll need to go down and see what is going on," Yangyang says.
"Now, it's time to use the Glider module. Rover, let me help you activate it,"
.
.
.
Within a matter of time, you learned to activate the Glider. All of you jumped off the cliff and glided down with the Glider Module.
Landing safely on the Tacet Field and Chixia went to Baizhi's side, calling out her name, "Baizhi!"
As Yangyang and Chixia marched towards Baizhi, you stopped when your ears picked up the sound of freuqencies.
"Baizhi! We're in a Dormant Tacet Field, right? Why did you come here by yourself?!" Chixia exclaimed, catching Baizhi's attention who gazed back at them.
"Baizhi, you know, we..." Baizhi passed by Chixia, who became confused and scratched her cheek, "Huh?"
Ignoring or whatever, Baizhi walked to your direction and her swan-like sea creature companion (?) flew to her side. The creature was surrounded in a light blue aura, and held markings— a lotus mark on its long neck.
Baizhi flicked her fingers up closely to your body and the creature twirled around your figure, inspecting you and grumbles to Baizhi. I am thinking that Baizhi has a degree on linguistics, your lip anxiously twitched.
Checking onto your vitals and health like Yangyang, "You are alright, it seems," Baizhi bluntly confirmed, placing her hand on her hip.
"You know, he was super energetic! He handled a super big TD! Way more spirited than me!" Chixia cheered and mimicked some fighting movements, earning Baizhi's amusement.
"I've been keeping an eye on his condition through the Stream..." Yangyang murmured.
Taking a curious look at Baizhi and well— everyone! Since you were questioning for your arrival in their presence.
You rubbed your nape, "What's going on?"
"Baizhi is just concerned about your condition. She must think we shouldn't be letting you move around that much, since you've just regained consciousness..." Yangyang trailed off as Chixia walked over to Baizhi's side, smiling.
"I'm alright," Baizhi crossed her arms, and fixated her gaze on Yangyang, "Judgement and worry have clouded your eyes, Yangyang. His vitals are stable,"
"This isn't the place for talking. Let's go,"
As she was saying that spikes appeared across the field and Yangyang's gourd alarmed her.
Everyone, except for you were hearing a frequency, causing them all to clutch their heads at the pressuring feeling in their head.
Angered, you turned and face to face with a full-armored TD. By an instant you clashed with it by your sword, sending the both of you back.
You straightened your figure and glared at the monstrous being. You and Yangyang were stuck inside a large transparent force-field, keeping you from getting out as the TD was with you.
You began to throw slashes against the TD after Yangyang had thrown a gust of tornados to the TD.
Outside the force-field, Chixia kept her guard and called out, "Yangyang! Rover! Where are you?! We've blocked outside. We can't get in. Are you alright?!"
"Rover is with me. And that... strange Tacet Discord is here too," Yangyang replied.
"It's the Tacet Discord's ability... be careful," Baizhi assured.
