Chapter Text
It was like hell as brought upon them, not literally, but it was all Valka could describe the view in front of her. Fire, so much of it covered her beloved village. She was inside her hut to protect her child. The battle had been going on for a while when she decided to lean against the doorway for a second.
Her face grimaced, uncomfortable letting the people she'd been trying to change their opinions about dragons kill them without mercy or remorse.
She stepped away from the doorway and walked towards the cradle that was by the fire. Her baby, hiccup, slept soundly as if war wasn't happening right this very moment in the village. She reached below and cradled her baby in her arms.
Immediately recognizing his mother's hold, Hiccup woke up and began babbling. He got a hold of one of Valka's fingers in his tiny hand, usually she would be lovesick and enchanted by her baby boy's cuteness, but all she could focus on where the sound of the dragons attacking the village outside.
The howls of pain, the screeches, the roars, dragons being killed. She let out a tiny gasp of fright when her trance was snapped by a loud joyful screech coming from Hiccup, who had successfully begun nibbling her finger happily.
She looked into his emerald forest green eyes, they shined with so much purity and innocence and curiosity. Curiosity she wanted to protect and guide. She would show Hiccup the good in dragons, that they are different from how people view them if they just listened. She would make sure Hiccup listened and change his mind when he grows.
Determined with the goal in her mind, she placed Hiccup down back in the cradle. "I'll be back my little one" She caressed his cheek and Hiccup giggled. She thought that he would be safe, it's not the first time he would be left alone for a little while. He slept a lot so that was what he would most likely do again.
Valka hurriedly walked away and into the chaos that was the village.
Quickly she began stopping Vikings from killing the dragons. She was careful to not be spotted by Stoick the Vast, who was her husband, chief of this tribe, and was also part of the group of people, which involved everyone that lived here, who disagreed of her very unpopular views and opinions about dragons.
After releasing a couple of Gronckles that where caught in a net, she spotted a Monstrous Nightmare get knocked out of the sky and crash near a viking. She quickly rushed over.
"Stop!" She shouted and grabbed the arm of the viking. "you'll only make it worse!" at that, the Monstrous Nightmare took its opportunity and flew off. The viking looked at the dragon flying off, then back at her. He looked at her in disbelief, and, if Valka stared a little closer, disgust. She let go of his hand and the viking ran off.
Used to the looks she would get; she was about to move on when she heard a loud powerful crash. She looked behind her and stared back at her hut, on fire.
She gasped, "Hiccup" she darted towards the hut.
She wasn't the strongest, but she was agile and fast. In minutes she reached her home. She burst in through the door and quickly grabbed one of the swords that had been hung up on the wall. She rushed to protect Hiccup, but the sight before her was one she'd never thought she'd see in her life. It was proof of everything she'd believed in.
There, on the cradle was the dragon that broke into their house, cautiously letting hiccup play with the claw of its wing. Amazed, she tried to carefully make her way towards them, but her footing betrayed her, and she stepped on a creaky floorboard.
Upon hearing the noise, the dragon pulled its wing away, the claw grazed the chin of the little one below, and hiccup began crying from the pain. With quick speed, the dragon turned and rushed towards her, but she ducked and rolled under its wing swiftly. Immediately she got a hold of hiccup in her arms.
She looked down at her baby and began rocking and hushing him, she whispered sweet words at him at that managed to calm him down to quiet whimpers. She looked up once more and the dragon turned to her again and Valka simply froze in fear.
Years of studying and observing dragons from afar never prepared her to ever be this close to one. The dragon slowly stepped closer towards her, until she hit a wall and its face was mare inches away from hers. The dragon stared into her eyes, and she stared right back at his. Slowly wonder began flooding in between the two.
The dragon's pupils went from slits to dilating into a perfect black circle. This dragon, it wasn't a vicious beast, but an intelligent, gentle, creature whose soul reflected her own.
An axe cut between both species with great power and speed. She turned her head at the direction where it came from. Stoick, he had thrown it and it riled up the dragon into defensive position to protect itself. It stood up high, flaring its wings and erupted a mighty roar.
"Valka run!" Stoick quickly moved out of the way as the dragon spat its fire towards him.
"No! don't!' she tugged at the dragon's wing, and it immediately got its attention. It began stepping closer and closer, pupils back to slits and fear flooding through her once more. She clutched Hiccup tightly to her chest.
"Hold on!" Stoick shouted. He saw the cradle and jumped over the burning wood that was once in front of him. Upon reaching the cradle, his eyes went wide with horror when he saw it empty. "Hiccup" he whispered.
The dragon jumped towards her, sinking its talons on her shoulders and with its mighty powerful wings, it lifted Valka and hiccup off the ground. She gave a loud yelp of pain. It only took Stoick a few seconds too late to process that his baby wasn't dead, and that Valka had Hiccup with her. But when he heard her scream, he turned around, and there was no Valka or hiccup or even the dragon.
He looked up in horror when he saw the beast flying off, with his family.
"Stoick!" he heard her shout.
"Valka!"
She tried to turn her head as much as she possibly could. "Stoick!" She shouted her husband's name, not knowing it would be the last time before he, her hut, her village, her home was out of view.
Stoick watched numbly as the wretched beast took away the love of his life and his baby boy away. The most precious people in the world he cared for so deeply about were taken in a blink of an eye, in one night, just like that.

Chapter 2
Notes:
Guess who started school like, two weeks ago?? 🤯 me, it was me😔💔 so anyways, hi, this chapter may be a little boring (in my opinion) so I'm sorry if y'all don't enjoy it, also I realized I wrote the word "but" like a million times so that's annoying, so next chapter update will be in a millennium, so yea enjoy!!
Chapter Text
The cold autumn wind blew through her hair, but she could not care less and all she could think of was the terrifying thought of being dropped into the freezing body of water below them. Her shoulders had gone numb after what felt like hours of flying. If she really tried to move her head to her side and look at her shoulders, she could almost see the dried out red blood.
She was glad the smell of iron was less noticeable and no longer intoxicating her nose. Her arms were sore and tired, she was afraid that even the twitch of her finger would make her arms give out and drop her precious Hiccup.
But she was convinced he would not give a damn since he'd been laughing and awing at all the other dragons that followed them from the beginning until he fell asleep.
She had known babies and young ones cry from a single roar of a dragon. But not her hiccup, never him, he was a quiet baby. Never cried much and was so much smaller than normal babies, and in her own opinion, cuter.
But what if he were just as mad as she was, perhaps they were both equally as weird as each other and that was okay, they could and would be weird together, as mother and son.
But first, they had to survive wherever the dragon would take them, together.
They had been with this flock of dragons this whole time; some would join, and some would leave but they were never alone.
The flap of the wings would push more freezing air her way, but she was no stranger to the cold, and the only thing she worried about was Hiccup, he was a bundle of joy, but he was a weak baby. A single breeze could pick him up and he would simply fly off like a leaf, or so Stoick liked to joke about.
Once he had fallen asleep she had covered his little face up with the big, long fur he was wrapped in, but she was paranoid that would not be enough.
And as if her prayers were answered, she felt the tiniest but of warmth graze her forehead.
Her head shot up and she closed her eyes taking in the rays of the rising Sun.
Oh, she had started to think day would never come and the night would never end. Feeling the sun melt away the coldness was such a relief it would be enough to make her cry.
And like clockwork, Hiccup began to stir awake. His little hands tried to claw their way out from the fur that covered his face.
"Here my little one" she smiled and pulled off the fur from his face. Hiccup squinted at first but when his eyes adjusted he shrieked in joy upon seeing her.
This got the attention of the dragons that flew near them. When her baby fell asleep, she had been quiet as a mouse the whole flight so as not to attract any more attention towards them. But now that Hiccup was up, making him herself even smaller than what she already was would be near impossible to make them ignore her.
And Hiccup's burst of happiness got the attention of the one particular dragon she mostly ignored the whole flight and had hoped it would have done the same for her.
But alas it seemed her beautiful baby boy got the attention of the dragon that currently had its claw buried in her shoulder.
She slowly turned her head upwards and found the dragon already looking down at them. She quickly lowered her head gulping in awkwardness. Never in her life would she have expected to feel such emotion with a dragon.
She is meant to feel fear, anger, or-or rage and deep hatred!
But no, she felt awkward.
The feeling quickly vanished as an extremely specific bright gleam of light caught her attention. Valka looked up and at first she couldn't make out what it was from how the light reflected from whatever she tried to see.
As they got closer, she could see an iceberg. Maybe it wasn't that but it sure was made of ice, so much ice and it was enormous, it was practically a whole island.
The closer they got the more dragons she began to notice. She yelped and clutched Hiccup who laughed as they dived downwards into the ice cavern.
Adrenaline rushed through Valka's body, and she closed her eyes as the dragon took turns and loops until they entered a large open part of the ice structure. When she finally opened her eyes she was awestruck to see the place. Plants grew alongside the ice walls and compared to the flock of dragons she had been with; this one was by far the biggest one she had ever seen. Dragons flew in and out, walked and climbed around the place.
The dragon carrying them made its way towards a small but decent sized cave and gently placed her down. Valka hissed in pain once the dragon's claw s retracted from her shoulders. She stumbled and quickly sat down so she wouldn't collapse and hurt her baby.
Valka groaned in pain as she moved her shoulders slightly, she crossed her legs and placed Hiccup down on her lap. Carefully she reached towards her shoulders and began massaging them. Her arms were locked in place for so long she thought they would fall off from how stiff the cold had made them.
She sighed in relief and closed her eyes for a moment as she could fully feel her shoulders once more. She was careful and slow at first, rotating a massaging them. Although the blood was dry she was worried that the holes that the dragon had left would start to bleed again.
Valka ripped up part of her to tunic to wrap up her shoulders and adjusted the fur to cover herself up more. When she looked up she realized the dragon that had taken them was nowhere to be seen.
She looked and only saw other colorful dragons fly past their cave, thankfully not a single one stopped to pay attention to them.
She grabbed hiccup and shuffled her way backwards until she was at the end of the cave, she didn't dare to turn her back on the dragons.
Valka watched fascinated as various kinds of dragon flew by. But she was so tired and exhausted, it was hypnotizing seeing them all, her eyes slowly began to close, she felt her own body slowly slide to the side. Her body wanted to rest so badly, maybe if she slept a little, it would be alright. Just a little shut eye and-
Her mind jolted her awake and she sat straight up once more. Pain shot towards her shoulders and that was enough to take away the sleepiness. She could not relax at a time like this, too risky, and although the dragon that had carried them hadn't eaten them, that didn't mean the other ones wouldn't dare to gobble them up in a second as she slept.
So, she sighed and made herself as comfortable as she could on the cold hard rock floor, and their dragon hadn't come back yet, so it seemed it would be a long day for her.

Chapter Text
Valka mostly kept herself busy by playing with Hiccup through the day. She had him in her lap at first for a while before he had gotten fussy in his bundle of fur. Valka unwrapped him and let him crawl around the cave. From her already half destroyed tunic, she ripped up another piece and used that long strip as a rope. She tightly and gently wrapped one end of the rope to Hiccup’s ankle so he wouldn’t go to far without her having to stand up and get him back.
Gods, she was so tired, it wasn’t new for her body to be up for more than one night. Dragon raids and all, she was used to it. But last night was an exception, everything had happened so quickly it almost seemed like a dream. A dream where she sat against a rocky wall after being taken by a dragon.
A dream where she would have to tug the rope to bring back Hiccup from crawling to far.
A dream where her sore body didn’t care I she was comfortable on the rock floor.
A dream where she slowly felt herself fall to her side and the grip on the rope start to loosen.
Yes, this was a dream, and maybe if he closed her eyes, the pain would be gone. She would wake up next to Stoick, already up and gazing at her smile once she saw him and give her a quick but passionate kiss before getting ready for the day. And she would watch him for a while before she got up to get Hiccup from his cradle. They would all go downstairs for breakfast, and she would smile while they ate. She would tell Stoick all about this wild dream where she had to use a ripped part of her tunic to tie it at Hiccup’s ankle to-
“Hiccup!” She gasped. Quickly, she sat up, the sudden movement caused intense pain to shock her shoulders, a weak groan came out of her. Valka looked down at her hand and the rope was gone!
Her eyes scanned the cave rapidly and found Hiccup. He had managed to crawl out of the cave and was simply sitting dangerously close to the edge the of the cliff they were on.
So many dragons flew by at great speed at any moment any of them could snatch Hiccup right up. Without a second though she scrambled to get up too fast. And then she heard it, the snap of her ankle and she instantly hit the floor once more, her chin getting scrapped up in the proses. A broken cry escaped her. Tears began swelling up in her eyes and began trailing down her face.
When she looked back at her son she was mortified at what she saw. A purple Deadly Nadder began stalking towards her baby.
“HICCUP!!” This couldn’t be happening. She wasn’t really about to lose her only son to a careless mistake, was she?? Her arms and shoulders hurt so much, she was tired and so exhausted her body just wanted to give up, but she wouldn’t allow it.
Valka began crawling, ignoring the feeling of a thousand knives attacking her shoulders. She dragged her body across the cold stone floor, but it was already too late. The purple Nadder stood above her innocent baby, who looked up at the creature with curious eyes. The dragon roared at him.
“no no no No NO! GET AWAY FROM HIM!!”
Suddenly, the Stormcutter flew in with a mighty booming roar. It flew towards the other dragon and threw it back. Immediately it went over to Hiccup and stood above him, shielding him. It crouched and bared its fangs at the Deadly Nadder.
“Oh my gods… Hiccup” Valka held her breath, her blood went cold in an instant. Both dragons were stuck in a stand-off. The purple Nadder tried to snap its sharp teeth at Hiccup, but the Stormcutter didn’t allowed, it breathed out its fire every moment the Nadder tried to come closer. Having enough, the Stormcutter stood up on its hind legs and flared its massive wings. Feeling threatened, the purple Nadder backed off with a hiss and flew off.
The whole thing made Valka realize that at some point Hiccup had begun crying. The Stormcutter reared back down and looked under its belly at the crying creature. Valka painfully stood up and hopped her way over as fast as she could.
The dragon moved out of the way as Valka dropped her body and scooped up her infant in her arms. “Oh my baby it’s-it’s okay, I’m here, I’m here” she shushed him. She rocked him back and forth, unable to calm him down. It was all its fault Valka concluded. “What do you want…” she whispered. Valka looked up at the dragon with no longer curiosity or wonder. No, her eyes were glossy and filled with rage and hatred.
“Wh-Why did you take us! What was your reason!” The dragon drew back in surprise at the shout. “Why-why haven’t you eaten us!? Are-Are we just here for-for entertainment!? Why would you take us just to do nothing!? Are-are you stupid!?”
The dragon tiled its head to the side. Valka knew she would get nothing from the dragon, and that just infuriated her more. “Oh my gods!” She hysterically laughed. “Just say something!!! Yell, screech, shout-roar at me!! Roar at me the same way you did to that other dragon! Just do something!!! Roar!!” she sobbed.
Her yells made Hiccup cry more. At this point she didn’t even know what she was asking for. She was tired, scared, furious, and exhausted and she wasn’t even thinking clearly.
“Just… do something… anything... please… just….” Her eyes were swelled with tears that flowed nonstop and it showered her baby.
The dragon watched both creatures weep on the ground outside the cave. He would have preferred to move them inside where it was safer. But he didn’t need to understand what the female Viking had shouted to know she was upset. So, he simply walked around them until he settled himself down. He wrapped his tail and wings over them, for now, he would lay and guard both humans from other dragons. He sighed as he relaxed for the long night ahead of him.

Chapter 4

So for those who read this crappy story, my bad I haven't uploaded in years, (jk it's only been months) I have two computers but I usually use my school computer to write the chapters which is not a good idea. Anyways earlier this month, my school got hacked, and so that means all the school's system and computers ain't working. And ok I know I could've just written it on my phone and I have written stories in my phone only, but I don't like doing it cuz I tend to miss more of my grammar mistakes and my fingers get tired.
This chapter was already written near the end of October, on my notebook. I was like, I'll transfer it to my computer eventually. 😀And when I WAS about to, computer got hacked. 🙄And so, finally after, like, weeks I decided to use my own personal computer, except its like really old and very crappy, so it was a LOVELY experience transferring my writing from notebook to computer and its something I whish to never have to go through again.😮💨
Anyhow here is this mess of a chapter some people seem to enjoy. 😊

Chapter Text
Valka found herself stirring awake to silence and near pitch-black darkness. She felt a little bit better, less sore and with less pain on her body. She gasped lightly and looked down to her arm. Hiccup slept soundly, she looked around to see they were draped in scales, white scales.
It was the dragon's wings that covered them. Without trying to wake Hiccup, she gently pushed the wings away. This awoke the sleeping beast, and it pulled away its wings completely for her. With the moonlight shining through the ice structure, Valka could see the whole place again, except it was different now. Instead of its wild and chaotic atmosphere it once had, it was now quiet and still. She could hear the faint sounds of the rumbling and snoring or dragons nearby, but it was overall silent.
Distracted by the sudden 180* of the place, Valka was about to stand up when the movement made her left foot hurt. She shifted Hiccup to her left arm so she could take off her boot and look at the state of her limb. Shen cringed and let out a tiny gasp upon seeing her foot. It was purple and swollen, she winced when she tried to move her toes. It looked like if a small round wooden ball was under her skin. She felt something hard on her chin and realized that a scab had form there. She could feel some of the slight dry blood that ran down from her chin to her neck to her collar bone. She hadn't known one fall could do such big damage to her.
Valka didn't realize when the dragon had shifted to be near her left shoulder. The dragon moved its snout to her foot and pressed against it. When it heard Valka wince once more it immediately drew back with and apologetic croon.
"Oh no! Its-It's okay! I just twisted it that's all. I'll probably won't be able to walk for a while. I just need to wrap it up with-" she looked down at her already half shredded tunic. "-something" she mumbled the last part. The viking scratched her head in thought about what she could use to wrap up her foot without destroying the rest of her only tunic when she suddenly remembered what had happened hours ago.
Her face scrunched up in embarrassment at the thought of it. She looked up at the dragon who still stared at her oblivious. Valka averted her gaze back to her foot, feeling the blood rush to her cheeks in feeling embarrassed and slightly guilty.
"Umm... I-I'm sorry. For, yelling at you" she spoke quietly at first. "I didn't mean to-well I honestly kind of did. I was, I was mad and scared but mostly mad at you-I mean not at you! It's just-" Valka began rambling. The dragon looked at the female human in confusion and concern.
One moment she was speaking with calmness and the next she spoke with such speed that he didn't even bother to try and decipher the very, very little words he knew in her language. So, he just stared until the viking stopped babbling so suddenly and took a deep breath.
The human mumbled a "great now I'm going crazy by talking to dragons" which he didn't understand the words of the sentence except for the word "dragon".
"What I'm trying to say is that I am sorry for yelling at you. And even though you deserved it, you're still a clueless creature who didn't and most likely now to, doesn't understand what I've said". She let out a light laugh.
The tone of the human's voice went from panic to apologetic, so the dragon gave her a reassuring croon. The dragon motioned its head towards the cave. Valka understood right away what the dragon wanted.
"But how? I really can't walk let alone stand up" She gestured to her swollen foot to the dragon. The Stormcutter looked at it once more before moving to her right side. "Oh-Oh okay, so you just want me to-" The dragon moved behind her and allowed her to use his snout to hold on as she hopped her way inside the cave. This was the very first time she felt the skin of a dragon, alive.
Normally, under different circumstances, she never had gotten near dragons, and when she did, she wasn't trying to know how their skin felt, her main focus was just to get them out of the traps during dragon raids. So that was the closest she'd ever been until this very moment, and she would cherish every second of it.
Once all the way inside the cave, the dragon didn't even allow Valka a moment to lay down properly before he curled around her again. It let out a puff of smoke and began rumbling.
Well, the viking thought it was rumbling until she realized it was purring, he, was purring. It was strong, but gentle at the same time, so different from when he usually roared. It was a lullaby that was quickly influencing her. Her body was leaning against the dragon's and the purring massaged her injuries. Her eyelids felt heavy and she yawned. Valka thought about what she would do once she awoke once more, and honestly, she had no idea.
What would she eat, what would Hiccup eat? She would need food to be able to produce milk and breast feed her baby. Autumn was here so food would start getting harder to find.
Just before she allowed her mind to fill up with worrying thoughts, she finally closed her eyes and suddenly the whole world went quiet. Only nature, purring, and her baby's soft breathing invaded her ears, and that was the only lullaby she needed to rest.

Valka grumbled as she was awoken by a small grip on her tunic being pulled.
"Ma" Valka smiled; eyes still closed as the tugging got more forceful. "Mama!" The little hands then stopped their pulling and something small jumped on her, knocking the air out of her lungs. Well, that was one way to fully waking her up. Instantly she began coughing and wheezing as dramatic as possible.
"Ma?" The tiny voice asked, filled with worry, and then, Valka wrapped her arms around the small figure and in an instant, giggles and laughter started pouring out of the child's lips. He thrashed and squirmed in her embrace, trying to escape it. Valka tickled and began placing small kisses on the boy's stomach.
Feeling merciful, Valka stopped the torturing the poor child. "Good morning my little Hiccup" she chuckled.
Hiccup adorned one of his usual bright smiles that could outshine the sun itself. He replied in a series of small clicks and growls. "Now remember my little one, you speak to me in Norse, not dragonese" she sighed as she poked his nose. At this, the boy shook his head and gave her an angry growl. "Hiccup what did I just say?" She raised a brow at him. Hiccup growled in protest once more.
"Hiccup" she warned. He roared at her. Valka gasped, "Now listen here young man, you don't growl at your own mother" she lightly scolded, Hiccup twitched and lowered his head, giving her a small mumbled "sorry mama" Valka took pity, she stood up from her bed of furs and picked the boy up in her arms. "Oh, it's okay baby,' she lifted his chin to look at her. "You just have to remember this little rule, that all" she reassured before giving him a small kiss on his forehead. This brough Hiccup's smile back and it filled Valka with joy upon seeing it.
"Now why don't you go wake up Toothless? I don't know why you both like waking up at the crack of dawn, but he must've overslept a little bit and is awake and waiting for you by now" Hiccup gave her an enthusiastic nod and jumped off her arms. Valka watched as he ran off eagerly to go find his best friend before turning her attention to the rest of the sanctuary. She could hear the faint sound of dragons slowly waking up and beginning to rise from their slumbers.
She breathed in the warm air of spring and exhaled. It was refreshing and it seemed like it was going to be a good day. She stood there a little longer, admiring the way the rays of sunlight bounced off the ice crystals and made the whole place seem like paradise. Yeah, today was going to be a good day, and she was excited to know the adventure they would have ahead.

Chapter Text
It was morning and everyone was getting ready before they had to leave the sanctuary. She and Hiccup had gone to breakfast once all the dragons had woken up. They all left with the alpha and when they got back, everyone began doing their own things. Dragons left and entered the sanctuary.
Cloudjumper had left to scour for any trapped dragons three days ago with a small group and so Valka would be waiting for him to report back while taking care of her son.
The young boy was five years old so naturally she had to keep a close eye on him, especially in the environment they lived in. As the only accepted humans in the sanctuary, the dragons knew not to harm or kill them, which took them a few months to learn when Valka had first arrived. But the thing is, the dragons, especially the dragons that had younglings adored Hiccup.
There were nights where she used to wake up alone in her fur bed, she would panic thinking Hiccup had rolled over and fallen over the edge or a dragon ate him while she searched for him franticly only to find him in a dragon's nest cuddled up next to their eggs or whelps.
The first time it had happened she nearly fainted seeing him fast asleep in the nest of a Monstrous Nightmare. She had to carefully snatch him right back without alarming the mother dragon. It took some time to teach the dragons to not take her son, Cloudjumper helped by translating what she had said, and they got the message.
But it happened every now and then, not as frequently as it used to be thankfully. Valka realized they weren't doing it on purpose, it was just paternal instinct to protect something as small as Hiccup.
And when he began learning Norse, he also began learning dragonize without her knowledge. She only found out when her son was three years old and had been taking to a little black dragon fluently, that those small roars and clicks he made weren't just noise but it was communication between the two.
Now with the ability to properly communicate with every dragon Hiccup became like a flower that attracted so many bees, but instead of bees, it was dragons. Swarms of them would follow him everywhere and spending so much time with the dragons had had a big influence on him.
Hiccup started to believe he was a dragon too. From what she had seen when she used to live on Berk, she thought it was only a small phasekids went through, like some would think they had super strength or they could see through darkness and silly stuff like that.
Hiccup would go up to her asking why he didn't have his wings yet of where was his tail. And she thought he would grow out of it but one event was the cherry on top that made her realize he truly believed he was a dragon in the most terrifying way possible.
It wasn't unusual to see her son jumping down from rocks at a reasonable height, he mostly did it believing his wings would just suddenly pop out of his back. But when he tried to jump from a cliff, that made her heart drop. She dropped whatever she had been doing and caught the collar of his tunic just in time.
Out of fear and adrenaline of almost losing her son a second time she yelled at him.
And her poor Hiccup cried, oh he cried on how he just wanted to fly with the other dragons. When she looked below, indeed she saw whelps looking up at them expectantly and waiting for her son to join them.
It took a long lecture and going back and forth with Hiccup about how he wasn't a dragon. And as stubborn as he is like his father, he reluctantly accepted he wasn't going to grow wings and a tail.
From then on, she learned to keep her eyes on her son at all times, although she trusted the dragons, they didn't really know how to care for Hiccup the human way. Only her trust to care for Hiccup was placed upon two dragons, Cloudjumper and the little black dragon named Toothless.
At first the little one wouldn't come near her, or any other dragon, only Hiccup, and only when her son was alone and not with her. She had never seen a dragon with such dark scales, and it seemed the dragon didn't have a sire or a dam because there weren't any other ones like him. It took her a while to realize the dragon was a Night Fury once she remembered all the little information about it in the book of dragons she had once read. Valka was so amazed and overjoyed when Hiccup had convinced the dragon to come close to her.
And to think that had been nearly a year ago when she was formally introduced to the little dragon who didn't trust her. Now, she watched him play with Hiccup, tumbling and letting out playful growls as he pounced.
Then Cloudjumper had returned, snapping her away from those wonderful and terrifying memories. He reported his findings to her. After he finished Valka announced it was time to leave to the flock she would be taking, along with Hiccup and Toothless who immediately stopped their playing eager to finally go out.
She got her armor, mask and staff in hand ready while Hiccup wore light leather armor to keep him safe. Valka and Hiccup would be riding on Cloudjumper and since Toothless wasn't strong enough yet to carry anything while flying he would fly alongside him.
A couple hours after they left the sanctuary Toothless had gotten tired, he didn't have the stamina of a mature adult dragon so he made his way over to Hiccup and flopped right down on his lap. He caught his breath as he made himself comfortable and purred as Hiccup scratched behind his ear flap.
Valka looked behind her at the duo lovingly, it made her remember of Hiccup's first official flight. She had been nervous, not because he could have fallen, there were enough dragons to catch him, or because this would be too high up for him that it would scare him, they lived at the edge of a cliff side of great height so he was used to it. None of that had been what worried her, what truly alarmed her was the cold.
She could stand it after living so many cold years on Berk, even their summers were cold. But Hiccup could barely withstand the cold of the sanctuary, but to her surprise Hiccup didn't mind it. It was like a totally different type of wind; he didn't even feel it anymore after a few rides in the sky. Even so, every ride, including this one right now Valka made sure to wrap him in extra furs, especially today since it was windy making it extra cold in the air.
Hiccup had protested saying he would be fine but gave in eventually after being told he wouldn't be able to go if he didn't put on the extra fur. Now looking at him, she saw how he snuggled up to the scarf wrapped around his neck, his now red nose slightly poking out. She smirked under her mask knowing the furs kept him warm when he had insisted, he didn't need them.
This mission was going to be a simple one, or she was told by Cloudjumper's scouting dragons. Their job was to find island, markets, or ships infested with dragon hunters. Hiccup and Toothless were allowed to come depending on how large or dangerous the mission was going to be. If it was too much, the duo would have to stay behind, being babysat by their alpha, who insisted on taking care of the little dragon soul.
Back to thinking on their current mission, Cloudjumper had reported that some Monstrous Nightmares had spotted some boats on an island three days away from their sanctuary, which was dangerously close.
It could only take them two days without any stops, which was what they would be doing. Cloudjumper had said there were a few hunters that were on the island but quite a lot of caged dragons. What made Valka feel uneasy was the fact on how a small number of hunters could capture that many dragons alone without some sort of army to do so. But she brushed it off at the moment, that wasn't their main focus right now.
The plan would be simple, arrive at night, scout the forest for any dragon traps and disable them, slowly her and Hiccup would unlock the cages and guide the dragons to the forest where they would be led by half of her flock to safety while the rest would surprise the hunters by burning their ships and get rid of the cages. Simple mission, but still dangerous, no matter what.

Chapter Text
Hiccup was freeing a couple of Deadly Nadders when he heard the familiar coo of his dragon calling him over. After instructing the dragons on where to go in the forest, he sneaked through the now empty cages and found Toothless.
His dragon motioned his snout to the cage. At first, he couldn't see what was inside. Hiccup didn't have the night vision some dragons had, and the moonlight didn't help at all. But, as he sniffed some more, he could smell a dragon in there, and he could smell something else, fear.
The Hideous Zippleback basically reeked of fear and it was nearly overwhelming he had to cover his nose. The dragon, upon resting its eyes on the human, got startled and wary.
It growled and backed away from him, its body hitting the end of the cage. The right head of the Zippleback let out small sparks of fire, and the left head began letting out small amounts of gas as a warning. The sound of teeth rubbing against each other to make the sparks was loud enough to be heard over the crashing waves.
Toothless alerted his human's attention away from the dragon for a moment. Hiccup turned his head to where Toothless was looking at and saw two guards looking in the section of the beach they were at. They were on high alert; Hiccup turned his head back to the Hideous Zippleback in worry.
"You have to calm down!" He spoke in dragonize. "I am here to help! But you have to be quiet! Please!" Hiccup whispered. "We are not dangerous; we are here to save you!" Toothless spoke in. "No! Humans are bad! Dangerous! Humans hurt us!" The two heads roared. They began to bear their fangs. "No no no! He will help! He's good! My human is good!"
Hiccup looked pass the cage and could see the guards coming closer. "I can help you! But you have to trust me!" He pleaded. "All humans have done is harm us! He is no exception!" They growled and with that, the left head begun to let out an unholy amount of gas that went beyond the cage. "Wait! Don't-" before Hiccup could interject, the right head clicked its teeth together and the whole area exploded.
Toothless had barely just been able to get his human on the ground and cover him just in time, saving him from getting injuries. The explosion was so loud, all Hiccup could hear was ringing in his ears. He felt Toothless unwrap his wings from him and the weight on his chest lifted.
Everything was swaying when he lifted his head. "-up! Hic...! -iccup! Hiccup!" The ringing finally stopped, there was so much smoke it hurt to breathe in that he started coughing. "Hiccup, are you okay!" Toothless was next to him, sniffing his body for any signs of blood. "Y-yea, I'm okay" from what he could see, they had been thrown back a few feet. The cage the Zippleback was in didn't even have a dent on it.
Another thing he noticed were shouts, but there were all mixed, dragon and human, his head was still slightly dizzy he couldn't tell them apart. Fully alert now that he realized he heard human shouts, he made a dash towards the dragon's still locked cage but was held back. When he turned his head, he realized Toothless was tugging his scarf.
"Let go! We have to free them!" he growled. "No! We have to leave! I can hear the footsteps of guards coming closer!" Toothless tugged back, making Hiccup stumble away from the cage. "Toothless stop! We still have to time! I can free them! Just-just let go!" His pleas were cut short when a big foot stepped right in front of them.
"Well, hello! Little boy" There, in between the cage and him stood the biggest guard he'd ever seen. Toothless immediately did on final big pull on the scarf that Hiccup was thrown back once more with a yelp. The dragon stood in front of his human protectively. He flared his wings, bared his fangs, and let out his claws to make himself appear bigger. It was pointless, Toothless was still so young that he just appeared helpless.
The guard let out a laugh of amusement. "A Night Furry! Oh, what a gem you are! Drago will pay a fortune for you little fella!" The guard reached down for the dragon but before he could even touch him, Toothless let out a plasma blast directly at the palm of the guard's hand's hand.
The man shouted in agony, Hiccup could smell the flesh burning, Toothless' blasts were weak and unfortunately it didn't blow up the man's hand. While distracted, Toothless took the opportunity to flee, helped his human back on his feet as quickly as he could. "Up, up. We leave now!"
As Hiccup mounted on Toothless' back, he caught a glimpse of the Hideous Zippleback producing more gas. The guard's pained shouts were making the caged dragon panic even more.
"Toothless go!" His dragon began running, Hiccup didn't look back, but he heard the rapid clicks of teeth behind him and then everything went up in flames.

Chapter Text
This was not the fun and exciting or easy-going adventure she had had in mind. Obviously not every mission was like that, there was risk to every single one. But this one was chaos, pure chaos.
Everything had been going according to plan, until it hadn't. Valka had been having some trouble picking a tough lock, it wouldn't budge, but she was close. Her concentration was snapped broken when an explosion got her attention.
The dragon that was inside the cage jumped back at the sound. They both looked at where the explosion came from, there was a lot of smoke, she sniffed the air and immediately recognized the scent, Zipppleback gas.
Her eyes widened, her body tensed up, her arm moved to grab her staff and waited. That couldn't have been Hiccup, he's always careful, cautious, knows how to behave. Not a second of silence passed when she heard shouting.
Fear was painted on her face, she raised her staffed and brough it down on the lock with force, breaking it off instantly. The dragon inside stepped out and Valka only pointed her finger towards the forest. The dragon gave her a grateful bow before leaving. Valka crouched and began stalking her way towards the explosion, her body moving more like a dragon than a human.
As she got closer, she could see the Zippleback gas intensifying once more, beyond the cage's bars she could see a guard standing in front of something. She paused and slowly rose up from her crouching position.
She was nearly all the way up when she saw the scene. The guard's hand had been burned by what he assumed to be some sort of blast. He screamed and groaned in pain, through all his loudness, Valka heard the familiar desperate growls of a Nigh Fury. Through the gas, she squinted her eyes and faintly saw toothless and "Hiccup!' she shouted.
Valka only took three steps before everything was covered in a bright red light. Through her armor she felt the faint powerful heat of the second explosion. Her body was thrown back, causing her to lose the grip of her staff. Her head landed on the sand, thankful for the mostly soft landing, she carefully got to her feet, slightly swaying before settling herself.
She walked towards the cause of the explosion where she had last seen Hiccup and Toothless, there was nobody now. Well, there was only a guard, the one she had seen threatening her boy, all burned up. He was most likely dead, and the dragon caged up behind her was severely injured.
The Zippleback was laying down, it trembled and panted heavily, Valka was horrified to see only one head. The other was gone, and only half the neck remained, the poor dragon had blown off its other half out of panic. She could only stare in pity before turning away.
Normally she would've helped, but she had to find Hiccup first. Despite the pain she felt, she moved fast, every turn she took, a guard would appear. Valka didn't dare to fight them; too many were coming out of who knows where. And her son was nowhere.
"Hiccup!" she hissed She could feel hot tears begin to swell up, frustration was taking over. In her desperate search, she hadn't realized her dragons had begun fighting back.
They had been found and without her leadership, Cloudjumper took to the sky, dragons following behind him. He tried looking for Valka, or even Hiccup, but everything was just a big swarm. Finding both humans by scent was also difficult, all he smelled was fear and terror.
But his focus was quickly brough to help his kind when they began falling out of the sky. The Stormcutter twisted up, down, left and right, avoiding the bolas that were thrown in his direction. For the big dragon he was, dodging the bolas was no problem.
Valka continued her search, desperate to find her boy, and then, she heard something. A voice, there were multiple voices, but this one, if she placed all her attention to it, she could almost make it stand out alone. She paused in her tracks, she looked around, her ear twitched as she concentrated. And then she heard it, it was faint, but it was there amongst the commotion around her.
"-ma!"
She turned her head toward the forest.
"ma-!" there it was again!
"Hiccu-!"
"Mama!" the cry was as clear as day. That was all her body needed to start moving, adrenaline consumed her. She sped through the forest, jumping over tree logs and bushes.
Valka kept on running towards the shouting until she finally found her boy, he was being held up by the scarf around his neck, by a dragon hunter. All she saw was red, she hadn't even stopped running and tackled the man down full speed.
Valka quickly got up and without a second thought, she got her staff and with the non-spiky end of it, knocked the man out with a hard hit to the head. The sound of the skull breaking was almost satisfying.
In the blink of an eye, she was immediately by Hiccup's side. The poor boy was coughing, filling his lungs with the oxygen that he had been deprived of. "Oh, my boy! You're alright son, you're alright, I'm here now" she whispered. Valka held his face, bringing their heads together as a way of comforting his son, who begun shedding tears.
The snap of a branch and a low growl got her attention. Looking up she saw Toothless; the dragon was being held captive in the grip of a dragon hunter. There was a muzzle on his mouth and ropes tied around his wings.
The man ignored Toothless' struggles and attempts to break free; he was afraid. Skin pale and body trembling, he was frozen in place, right now stood thee infamous dragon thief. Man or woman, human or demon, nobody knew what it was.
All they knew was that the thief was the one who stole their dragons, the one who wore a terrifying mask and was willing to do anything to stop them. That was clear as he glanced at the very much dead guard on the forest's floor, blood coloring the green to a darker shade.
Petrified and not wanting to lose his life by a monster, the hunter dropped Toothless and ran away from them. The nigh fury harshly landed on the ground, letting out a small growl.
Valka and Hiccup ran to him, the boy took off the muzzle while Valka cut the rope. Once free, the dragon nuzzled his rider, still more concerned over the boy than himself. Valka sighed in relief, now her boys were safe.
Then the dragon's ear flaps twitched, he sniffed around before growling behind them. Valka couldn't see or hear much, but she knew what Toothless was reacting to. His heightened senses were no match to an ordinary human. "Hunters, they are searching" he growled.
Valka nodded and turned to both boys. "Toothless, I trust that you continue to protect and care for my son, I thank you for keeping him safe brave dragon" She spoke, her tone grateful and serious. The dragon held his head high in pride, he didn't know why he was getting praised for, but he'd take any of it at any moment. He let out a puff of smoke and an "I will" to her.
What made him more confused was when Valka placed her son on him. "Now go you two" The dragon nodded and begun running, but he was stopped when he felt tugging. He looked at his rider who was looking at Valka who hadn't followed them. "Mama?" the boy questioned.
The woman begun walking to a tree and climbed it. She found a steady branch to wait in. Valka turned her head to them and took off her mask. "It's okay Hiccup, I'll give you enough time to find Cloudjumper or any of our pack"
"Ma not coming with us?" the boy asked, fear and worry laced his voice. "No, ma is not going with you my darling" she sadly smiled. At that, Hiccup was about to get off the dragon, "Wait! Hiccup stay on! Keep him on Toothless!" at the order, the dragon jumped, forcing the boy to hold on to not fall off. "My son, you have to go. I couldn't live with myself if I knew you'd get hurt because I could not protect you"
"But..." Hiccup didn't want to split up. They did it all the time on their mission, and he had never been scared of being separated, but this night, everything was different. Things that weren't supposed to happen, happened. And the thought of being separated from his mom again scared him like never before.
"Don't you worry baby, I'll find you, you know I always do. We'll go back home together as always" And with that, Toothless took off, trying his hardest to ignore the cries of protest his rider gave him.

I want to point out if anybody noticed that when Hiccup speaks Norse, it sound more like babyish becuase he speaks better Dragonese than norse, so in norse his grammar is worse, =)

Chapter Text
Hiccup watched as Valka got smaller and smaller until all he could see was just the tree's staring back at him, her silhouette gone. "Tooth-Toothless! Toothless stop!" he cried. "Stop! Just-just stop please!" He placed all his weight forward, making the dragon trip on his front legs and they began tumbling down. They hit the harsh, hard, forest floor, getting covered in scratches and feeling twigs break under their weight until they came to a stop.
"Hiccup!" the dragon growled furiously, getting up and shaking himself. "What are you doing!? We have to go!" The boy tumbled and tripped on his own feet trying to get up. "Hiccup!" The boy ignored him. "Hiccup!" The toothless growled again. Hiccup didn't listen to him; all he could think about was getting back to his mother. "Stop! I said stop, Hiccup!" The dragon tackled him, heavier than the human, Hiccup struggled to get him off.
"Get off! I-I have to go!" He roared at him in dragonese. Tears began swelling up in his eyes and fell down his cheeks. "-Off! Get-Get off please!" Toothless forced the boy's arms down with his paws. All Hiccup could do was cry and try to kick off the dragon, but that was impossible because Toothless had the same determination to keep him held down.
"Please, please, just let me go" The struggle begun dying down, all Hiccup could do was sob and cry. The dragon suddenly became aware of the shear force he had placed on the boy's arms and immediately got off of him.
Hiccup curled to his side, he wrapped his arms around his head, hiding himself and wept. "Hiccup?" Toothless watched helplessly as his rider shook and trembled. "I wanna go back" He whimpered. Toothless let out an apologetic croon as he carefully laid down beside Hiccup, his head facing his rider's covered face.
Toothless was conflicted in what to do, he was meant to get them out of here and wait for any dragon, that's what Valka had said. As the oldest, only by a little, he was responsible for Hiccup, he was supposed to think smart, be careful, caring, and most of all, have bravery, but right now, he was scared, so scared and he didn't know what to do with Hiccup like this.
They were being hunted down on an island they didn't know, and they were all alone. He looked up into the night sky, he could hear the thunderous roars of the dragons fighting to survive. He had good hearing, and what he could make out was that all of the dragons were on the other side of the island, the side they had just ran out of.
No one would save them, they were too busy escaping to help each other that nothing else was a priority, not even rescuing them was as important as their own freedom. Toothless sniffed the air, he caught the slight whiff of human scent, hunters.
"We have to go Hiccup" he nudged his snout at his rider's arms, and that made Hiccup pull them down. The boy was soaked in his own snot and tears. "I don't want to leave without her" his voice trembled.
Toothless crooned softly. "Soon we will all be back together and go back the sanctuary again Hiccup" he began cleaning up the boy's face with his tongue, making Hiccup let out a few giggles and playful ew's of disgust. After his futile attempts from stopping the unconsented tongue bath, he was all cleaned up, and slightly sticky from dragon saliva, a small smile was finally on the boy's face. "There we go, much better" the dragon smiled.
Hiccup got up and sniffled, wiping off the excess saliva. "Feeling okay?" Hiccup thought, his face shifted back to worry and uneasiness. He still didn't like the idea of leaving the one person he knew behind, he was scared of losing his mom and ending up alone. "I-"before he could answer, he heard rustling.
Both boys looked behind them, it seemed like all the creatures of the forest disappeared, everything was suddenly so quiet. Tensely, they didn't dare too move, eyes scanning and searching for something, any sign of potential danger.
And then they found it, something moved behind a tree, and then another one, two more, four, more figures began appearing, slowly rising up from the wildlife. There were 15 hunters surrounding them, they moved with caution, whispering and signaling to each other.
"Hey little guy" one of them spoke softly in a whispering voice, he broke out of the group and began stepping forward, his steps careful in approaching the boy.
Hiccup backed up and begun growling, Toothless stepped in front of him, getting in between Hiccup and the dragon hunter. "Whoa, okay, take it easy dragon" the hunter stopped in his tracks when Toothless let out a plasma blast near the man's boot.
"Mind calling off your little, uh, friend, lad?" Hiccup and Toothless simply growled in unison. The hunter and the boys just stared at each other, no one moved and inch, they waited, just waited for something to happen, to see if anyone else would make another move.
Toothless, didn't like this at all, his head moves to look at each and every single hunter until his eyes caught the ones behind him slowly blocking their path. If they did that, they would truly be caged with no escape. Without warning, the dragon ran under Hiccup's legs, setting him on him and turned around, letting out plasma blast in the direction of the hunters that had been moving.
The men shouted and got out of the way fear of getting hit. That's when they began chasing after them. Hiccup held onto Toothless tightly, he had never seen Toothless run so fast with so much determination, only when they raced around the sanctuary.
But this wasn't for fun, this was for survival, to not get captured or worse. Then an arrow flew right in front of them, Hiccup yelped as the dragon jumped over it. He looked up and his eyes went wide when he saw that it wasn't the only one.
Arrows began raining down on them, Hiccup hunched down and pressed his body against the dragon's back, legs and arms wrapping around him as Toothless dodged the arrows with great force.
They ran but then the worst happened, Toothless roared in pain when an arrow was struck on his hind back leg, and then another was struck on his lower back. They fell so fast, Hiccup being thrown off the dragon and the boy's head landed on the ground first.
A tear of pain threatened to roll down as he achingly got up. He looked up and saw that the arrows had stopped, and then back down to see Toothless on the ground, struggling to get back up.
"Toothless!" Hiccup rushed to be by his side; panic filled him. "Let-Let me see" Hiccup placed the dragon on his lap, upon looking at the dragon's leg, the arrow had been broken in half by the fall, but it was still buried deep in the scaly flesh.
Toothless whimpered when Hiccup went to grab it, he immediately pulled back and thought for a second.
He quickly took off his scarf and wrapped it around the dragon's leg. Toothless shrieked in pain when the scarf was tightened. "This will keep it from moving too much" Hiccup was glad the injury wasn't so severe. His mom had trained him and taught him basic skills; he was a quick learner she would say.
He then turned his attention to the other arrow on Toothless' lower back, just where his tail started and saw it wasn't impaled that deep. "I'm gonna pull it out, okay?" he reached for it but Toothless whined and tried to move away but Hiccup held him in place. "It's okay, I just need you to hold still, and I will pull it out qu-"he was interrupted with the rush of footsteps coming into view.
Hiccup quickly dragged his dragon's body with all the strength he could muster until his back hit a tree trunk. Toothless growled in fury at the hunters, he tried to stand up, but he collapsed immediately.
"Don't worry bud, I will protect you" he whispered at him. Hiccup stood in front of the dragon, shielding him from the many swords pointed at them.

Chapter Text
Hiccup took out a small dagger he kept under his sleeve and clutched it tightly in his hand. He growled when one of the hunters began reaching for him, with a swift move, he slashed the man's palm, blood drops splashing on his face.
Hiccup got on a crouch; he watched as the man stumbled back and shouted in pain. Toothless let out his dragonish warble laugh. The hunter looked both at the dragon and at the boy in disbelief.
"You little!-" the hunter was furious; he looked at the boy with hatred, Hiccup was ready to strike once more, the man lifted the mace he held put paused when a powerful voice shouted.
"Stop!"
All the hunters and the two younglings stood still, Hiccup watched as more hunters appeared and then a large man stepped through the crowd. Everyone moved out of the way, the man walked with confidence and domination.
He looked with intense eyes, he had never seen a man like him before in any part of the archipelago. His skin was darker than his own pale one, he had scars decorating his face, but what stood out most of all was his cloak. It covered his left arm completely, the cloak was dark as night, it was scaly and looked oddly familiar.
Hiccup was sure he had seen it before, he squinted his eyes, the moon providing enough light that it finally clicked.
It was dragon flesh, but not from any ordinary dragon, it was night fury flesh! He gasped upon recognition.
He had never seen any other Night furry scales besides Toothless', he knew he could not be wrong, and that terrified him. This man, this, monster, was a killer of dragons, killer of Night Furies.
The man looked at the boy, his eyes wandering and scanning his whole body. And then he stopped at his eyes, it was as if he could see right through his whole self. Hiccup gulped, throat suddenly dry, he was not liking how the man was eying him. Toothless growled, he could sense the uneasiness the man brough his rider, and that got the attention of the man.
"A night furry?" His voice was deep, rough, he tilted his head to the side.
"We found them running around like wild animals" The hunter with the slashed palm spoke. He had tattoos on his chin, hair slicked back and appeared to be one of the tidiest hunter Hiccup had come across so far.
"They have been together the whole time" he glared at the both of them.
"Together?" the man raised his eyebrow. That was unusual, the boy was still alive, granted he was with a whelp, but even so, young dragons could be as deadly as fully grown ones, especially Night Furies.
The man watched as the dragon limped his way over to the boy and began pulling him backwards, tugging on the leather clothes. He stepped forwards but the dragon growled at him once the boy was within its reach.
It was interesting to see a human and a dragon so bonded together, it was unique, extraordinary, something he had never seen, only tried.
"What should we do with them Drago?" The hunter spoke.
The man though for a moment, he looked into the Night Fury's eyes, it gave a low threatening growl or at least attempted to. It came back higher pitched, as expected of a whelp. Bright, green, forest emerald, wild and savage eyes stared back at him, exactly the same as any other beast. Drago turned to the boy, he was already looking at him, his eyes were different.
They were completely different from an ordinary human; they were exactly the same as the beast's. This boy, this boy was not human, not human at all, he was more than that.
"Fascinating" Drago spoke lowly as he came closer, ignoring the boy's and dragon's futile threats as they backed up further into the tree, as if trying to be one with it.
Hiccup began breathing heavily, a small whimper escaped him when the man touched his cheek, forced to face him and not anywhere else. He didn't dare to close his eyes, fearful of what the man would do if he did.
From this distance, Drago could see everything, every single feature decorated in the kid's face. He could feel the tremble of the boy's body, the way it shivered, his fast breathing, the rise and fall of his chest.
The boy's eyes were hypnotizing, Drago had only ever seen another pair of eyes with a similar shine just like the kid's, although those eyes had been fake, they were human.
But this boy's eyes were real, pure and it told him everything he needed to know. This boy is a dragon; he has the soul of a dragon trapped inside the body of an unholy human.
Hiccup was scared, so much fear filled him upon the man's gaze. All he could do was stare back at the dark eyes that looked at him, they were filled with intentions he couldn't figure out. Then, the man grinned, an evil wicked grin spread across his face, making him looks insane.
Hiccup jumped when he felt the gush of wind of Toothless snout trying to bite the man's hand, but the man had pulled back just on time, releasing his face harshly.
"Drago? Are you o-?"
"We are taking them" with that, Drago snatched the boy right off the ground. Effortlessly with his right arm he held the boy tightly, his attempts or any attacks towards him were nothing.
Drago saw the dragon lunging at him but was brought back down when his hunters held the dragon down and began tying him up. It roared and tried to let out its blasts, but he was quickly muzzled.
"Careful with its leg, I need a working dragon, not a useless one" He turned around and began walking away.
He could hear the boy shouting and roaring, and the dragon roared back. "Exquisite" Drago thought, this boy knew the dragon tongue, no human could speak dragonese. The though of what more hidden secrets his little dragon boy had excited him tremendously.

Chapter Text
This is Berk, its 12 days of north of hopeless and a few degrees south of freezing to death. It's located solidly on the Merdian of misery. The village, in a word, sturdy, it's been there for seven generations, but every single building is new. They have fishing, hunting, and a charming view of the sunsets.
The only problems are the pests.
A young girl woke up to a thunderous boom outside her hut. She threw her blanket off and instantly got to her feet, put on her fur boots and her headband.
You see, most places have mice, snakes or mosquitoes.
The girl ran down the stairs and opened her front door only to be met with fire, without missing a beat she closed it shut as fire came in through the cracks of the door.
They have "dragons" she breathed out; she could feel the rush of the heat through the door's frame until it stopped. She stepped out of her hut and watched the beasts swooping in and out of the village, snatching and stealing their livestock.
Most people would leave the island, not them, they're Vikings, they have stubbornness issues. She watched as people would hold onto a dragon's body as they flew and hit them with their swords or maces, refusing to let go.
It was mayhem as men and women ran to defend their homes. She dodged and moved swiftly trying not to get knocked over.
The girl's name was Astrid, it meant "divinely beautiful" or "godly strength" it was a great name for a girl like her. Parents believed a powerful or hideous name would frighten off gnomes and trolls, as if their charming viking demeanor wouldn't do that.
Astrid watched as people fell out of the sky and simply got back up like nothing ever happened. Distracted by the rainfall of dragons and Vikings, an explosion she hadn't seen threw her back and she landed on the ground with a painful thud, she felt as the wind in her lungs rushed out in an instant.
Astrid groaned and slowly opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was a man running up to her with a battle cry and with an axe in hand. He roared at her face and his expression quickly changed from rage to cheery in a second. "Mornin'!" he yelled, he grabbed her hand and lifted her back up to her feet.
She gave him a thankful nod before running off to do her role in this daily madness. As she ran through the dirt streets people greeted her with "G'mornin' Astrid" and "go get 'em lass!" and other forms of encouragement and courage.
Although not shown in her expression, she adored the praise, and even though she still hadn't begun her dragon training, people already respected her so much. Astrid was a great warrior with her axe, a good leader, she was strong, and she was next in line to be chief so of course she would be complimented.
Astrid immediately stopped her feet from moving as a dragon laid out a road of fire right in front of her, preventing her from crossing. She ended up bumping into something hard as she had backed up, at first she thought it had been a house. But when she turned around she was met with the chief of the village, Stoick the Vast. "Are you okay Astrid?"
"Yes sir, I'm just heading towards the water barrels."
"They are that way, go" he pointed towards the direction she needed to go and gave her a light push. "Thank you" she quickly ran and looked back. Stoick the Vast was the true definition of a chief. When he walked into a room full of Vikings he carried leadership with him, even when standing still one could feel the confidence and power that man carried, he was a great fighter too, the strongest viking.
He was amazing at everything and most of all he was the toughest and fiercest viking in this entire world, that's her own personal opinion, heck, he is harder than steel she bet.
There were rumors amongst the kids and teenagers that the man used to have kindness in his heart, and that he had a family. It was forbidden to talk about the topic, so she didn't know much or anything about it, only that the man used to have a wife and son apparently.
She doesn't know the cause of death or disappearance of the man's family, no one does, there were many possibilities that could have caused it, no one knew what really happened that night fourteen years ago, the only people who knew what truly happened where the Jorgenson and the village's blacksmith.
But they wouldn't dare to say anything either.
Astrid shook her head from the thoughts and eventually made it to the water barrels. She took one of the buckets that were piled up and filled it up with water. Her role was simple but impactful. Her job, alongside other teenagers, was to put out as many fires as they could. The less fires the less material they needed to use to rebuild houses, fences, and more.
She began putting out fires and eventually met up with the other teenagers. "Your late" a viking with long blond hair spoke, his name was Tuffnut. Alongside him there was another viking, she too had long hair, but it was braided, her name was Ruffnut. Both Vikings wore similar outfits, as matter of fact, the two were exactly the same, twins they were, and Astrid hated that. They were loud and mischievous.
"Aw your royal highness was probably still taking her beauty sleep!" Ruffnut laughed, Tuffnut snickered.
"Well, I think getting some extra sleep isn't wrong! I think you look great when you get more sleep Astrid"
Astrid looked over to the other boy who spoke, Snotlout, he was short, annoying, and she was the one she hated the most. All she simply did was roll her eyes at the comment.
Her eyes landed on the last one, Fishlegs, he was a big viking, strong in his own intelligent way, mostly kept his knowledge to himself knowing no one would bother to listen. She didn't mind him, he was alright, he was the only one she might consider a friend, only if he thought the same thing about her.
With all of them ready, they began their task. But after a while is became exhausting hearing the others complain about how they are capable of killing dragons too and that they were wasting their potential.
Astrid couldn't help but quietly agree too, she was fifteen already, and she was eager to learn dragon defense. She believed she should be working with the adults and not the kids anymore.
All the teens saw their next building on fire and quickly ran with their buckets filled with water. They ran past the forge and Astrid saw her teacher. The viking had two missing limbs, where his right leg should be there was a wooden prosthetic leg, and where his left hand was meant to be, he had a wooden prosthetic hand.
The teens threw their water at the fire and were close to putting it out, but a dragon blasted the house into splinters. All their hard work was for nothing; frustrated Astrid dropped her bucked and walked up to the forge where her teacher was in. He was sharpening swords and any other weapons that needed sharpening.
"Gobber!" She called out angrily. The viking looked up while continuing his work. "Oh, Astrid! G'mornin' lass!" his cheery demeanor made her want to punch something. "Gobber what are we doing?" she threw her hands in the air. "We should be helping out with killing the dragons! Not-Not putting out fires!" she gestured to the blown-up house.
"We can fight; I can fight! Just give me a weapon, anything and I'll show you!" Gobber simply went on to grab another sword and sharpened it. "You can show me when we begin your dragon training" he spoke.
"When Gobber? You've been saying that for months and we haven't even begun anything, its almost winter and those blasted dragons are taking away our food!"
"Soon Astrid you just have to wait a little longer."
"Just how long Gobber? I am sick of sitting and doing nothing, I don't want to watch as those beasts take away everything. I am ready to fight, I can do it, I can-" she was interrupted when she heard a familiar whistle coming closer.
The whole village went still, even the dragons stopped, they all heard the dreadful whistle of the one dragon they didn't want to see tonight.
"Night Fury!"

Chapter Text
"Get down" a viking yelled, instantly people crouched and placed their shields above them. One of the catapults was blown up in an instant, pieces of wood flying off everywhere. "Jump!" Everyone saw as their chief with two other vikings who were in the catapult structure jumping off just on time.
People could only track the Night Fury simply by watching how it blew up their catapults one by one, the dragon never stole any of their food, never showed itself, and its shots never missed its intended target.
Astrid watched as people simply ignored the dragon, letting the damned beast continue its destruction spree. No one had ever killed a Night Fury, and those who encountered it never lived to tell. The vikings only focused on the dragons they could kill and let the Night Fury go.
"Well, it looks like they need me out there!" Gobber switched out his hand to an axe. "You, keep doing your job. We'll talk about this later" He pointed at Astrid before running off with a battle cry.
She rolled her eyes; she looked around the forge until she spotted what she was looking for. On the wall there was an axe and a bola, she jumped over the window and gabbed both of them and began running off.
"Hey! Astrid! Where're you going!" She heard Snotlout yell, but she ignored him and continued running, if no one would kill it, then she would be the first.
---
Stoick threw a net at a group of Deadly Naders who were trying to steal some sheep, other vikings joined in to keep the dragons down, surrounding them.
"Mind yourselves!" Stoick shouted as he jumped on the snout of one of the Nadders, forcing it to fall. "The devils still have some juice in them" he spoke lowly, putting as much pressure to the dragon's head to keep it down.
---
Astrid ran to a secluded hill, away from most of the fighting, her heavy breathing was the only sign of life there was around her. The girl looked around, no one noticed her, she placed her gaze upwards towards the night sky, searching for the Night Fury.
In front of her, not far away, stood a catapult. No one was there to use it, knowing that the Night Fury would most likely blow it up, she readied herself to throw her bola. She made a spinning motion with it; her bangs moved softly with the smooth dawn breeze.
Then she heard the familiar whistle, her eyes scanned the sky, the whistle echoed to her left, it came closer and closer until she finally spotted it. It had been hard, but she saw how the stars disappeared and re appeared thanks to the Night Fury's body and then the catapult exploded. She only had a split second to throw her bola, but she did it.
She watched as it flew in the Night Fury's direction, the bola spun rapidly, it was sure to hit the dragon, but Astrid expression shifted from total confidence to anger as the bola whooshed past the beast.
"No... no nononono!" She yelled; she had missed the dragon. Astrid began swinging her axe in the air wildly in rage. "No! No! Son of a half troll rat eating-!" Her tantrum was cut short when she turned around and was met with a Monstrous Nightmare.
All the bravery and confidence disappeared from her body when her eyes met the dragons fiery red ones. The girl swore that if she were ever face to face with a dragon, she was sure the first thing she would do was kill it, she had always been so sure of that.
But her instincts didn't come, her entire body trembled, and fear took over. She repeated her parents wise words that they always told her. *FightorflightFightorflightFightorflightFightorflight* She only had two choices; she could either fight this dragon head on, or- she ran.
The moment her numb hands lost grip on her axe and it fell on the floor; her feet finally began moving and the nightmare began chasing. Never in her life had she been so close to a dragon and felt so much fear. Astrid ran down the hill and suddenly she found her voice, instead of calling out for help, she let out a scream of terror.
Below where Stoick held the group of Deadly Nadders he had captured, he turned his head to where he heard a loud scream, he was surprised to see Astrid full on running down a hill and a nightmare right behind her trail.
It was unusual to hear the girl let out a scream of fear, usually it was a battle cry, but it wasn't.
"Spitelout, make sure they don't escape" Spitelout nodded at the command and the chief began running towards the girl.
Astrid ran through the village as fast as she could make her legs go. She clumsily dodged and ducked, nearly avoiding the dragon's huge blasts.
She ran behind a massive brazier; she covered her head with her hands as the nightmare had let out its fury on it. The girl felt the powerful heat against the pillar and then it stopped. She slowly uncovered her head and turned to her side to look to see if the dragon was still there, unaware that the beast had moved to her other side where its big jaws where about to snap down on her head.
But it never did because suddenly Stoick rushed over just on time and punched the dragon away.
"Go! Get out of here!" he shouted. Astrid did so without a second thought.
Stoick rolled over as the Monstrous Nightmare fired at him, it growled lowly and narrowed its eyes. It opened its mouth to let out another blast, to finally get rid of the annoying human, but nothing came out, only a few blobs of fire escaped and that was it.
"You're all out" The chief smirked, he saw as the nightmare's eyes were filled with panic. The dragon tried to turn around but the viking grabbed it by its tail and dragged it back towards him. He began landing powerful punches at the dragon's head.
The nightmare whined in pain; it tried to fight back but the constat hitting and its lack of fire placed the beast at a high disadvantage.
"Sword!" Stoick commanded, he extended his arm out and one of the vikings threw him a sword. The chief grabbed it flawlessly with no problem, he spun it skillfully.
The Monstrous Nightmare stumbled weakly to the floor, although the viking's punches didn't compare to being hit by another dragon, the beast had taken too many punches to the head, making it dizzy and disoriented.
Stoick stalked his way towards the dragon, it tried to scuffle away, attempting to save itself. But the chief buried its sword in its tail. The dragon roared in agony, it turned its head to try and take a bite on the human, but the moment it turned around to face the viking, the human lifted the weapon and in a clean motion, he sliced the tail off.
The Monstrous Nightmare's painful screech was silenced by the rageful roar of another dragon. All heads turned to where the sound came from and without even having a chance to react, the Night Fury flew down towards them at full speed.
"Chief!" Spitelout instantly ran towards Stoick, ignoring as the Nadders flew off with some sheep and pushed the chief out of the way just on time before he could get blasted by the Night Fury.
"My gods!" Spitelout shouted, Stoick quickly got up, eyes wide as he saw what was before all of them.
The beast that haunted vikings for ages was right in front of them, the myths and legends were true! The dragon's scales where dark as night, its mouth glowed a threatening purple, its bat-like wings were spread wide.
No one could engage the dragon, it kept blasting towards anyone who dared come closer between it, the Monstrous Nightmare and... something that slid off its back.
Stoick watched the smaller figure from afar as it crawled in all fours towards the Nightmare. It was tiny, sleek and its scales were the same as... could it be a whelp Night Fury?
Before any more thoughts could form, they heard cracking and groaning coming from one of the braziers' pillars, everyone moved out of the way as it snapped in half and began falling downward.
