Chapter Text
Hisashi Midoriya is sure that he is a good parent.
He always takes care of the house, food, bills and his lovely son — Izuku. He always spends some time with him, even if not too long, because of his job. He always listens and tries to help. He never ignores him. He has a good paying job and no addictions.
He never stopped believing in his son’s dream, after that one trip to the doctor. When Izuku got to the UA, he took him to the cinema for celebration! He was always there for Izuku.
So why is there a skeleton blonde guy sitting in their living room, sitting in HIS favorite place on the couch? Not mentioning drinking from his “The best dad” mug.
It was almost like he felt a tremble in his force.
The worst part was when they locked up eye contact. Hisashi was standing in the hall, still in shoes and coat. The bag was in his hand when he earlier wanted to put it down.
This is the moment when Hisashi's mind ran over the idea of throwing the bag at the stranger. Luckily, he was interrupted.
“Hey, dad!” The green fluffy hair appeared from the kitchen door. “I was thinking you had a longer shift.”
“They let me leave earlier…” he replied, still not averting his gaze from the blonde. “Have I finally started to see ghosts?”
The man really looked like a dead corpse. And he coughs with blood!
“Ghosts? Oh, no, no! This is Yagi-san!”
That… That doesn't really explain everything. His stare was enough to give a realization to the younger Midoriya.
“He is a trainer that I told you about!” Izuku quickly explained, already making his way to the living room. That's why he didn't notice the face Hisashi was making.
Honestly, the man didn't know how his face went from every grief stage in five seconds. That's his new record.
“He helped me with training for UA. And he is a teacher there!”
While Izuku was talking about the skeleton, Hisashi took off his coat and shoes. Then he walked towards the living room.
“Ekhm- It's perfect to finally meet you Midoriya-san” ‘Yagi’ Guy said, when Hisashi entered the room.
“I can finally put a face to the name.”
When he heard about the great trainer, he thought about someone… Well, not bleeding at every sentence.
Still, nothing explained what the man was doing there. He shot the questioning look towards his son.
“I wanted to show Yagi-san my notebooks. I mentioned them, but I couldn't bring them to school” he explained, smiling a bit nervously.
“Young Midoriya just piqued my interest in his analysis skill.”
“Yes, he is quite brilliant” Hisashi narrowed his eyes, hearing the fond tone in Yagi’s voice. He didn't like it in any way. It wasn't the “I really respect the student” tone. And thankfully, not the creepy one either. It was almost like talking fondly about a family member.
.
.
.
Or it was just his paranoid mind. Tsukauchi often mentioned that he has tendencies like this.
Still, he didn't like the skeleton guy.
“Principal Nedzu mentioned taking photos for him”, Izuku added with hesitation. He wasn't used to the attention of his skills in the school area. Even if his dad took care of Aldera, he couldn't repair every problem. Izuku was sure that he would still try.
“Why not bring them to school?”
Hisashi looked at Izuku, focusing on ignoring the blonde's presence. Maybe it was childish, but this is his house, so his rules.
“Dad, there's thirteen of them! And they are pretty heavy. Don't forget about the notes. I can't lose them! What if I teared off a page? What if I spill water on them?! What if-”
“Whoah, whoah! Don't fly that fast!” Hisashi quickly stepped in, laying hands on the teen's shoulder “Remember what I always told you?”
“Don't listen to an idiotic assho…?”
“That too! But the other thing.”
“Don’t think too much about the problem. Think about the answer?”
“Exactly.”
Yagi only sat through the whole situation without saying a word. Young Izuku invited him to his house without any worry. But Toshinori was worried. He had never met his father before. He felt like an intruder here. Noticing the glare Midoriya-san was sending him, he was definitely one.
Maybe he made a big mistake, but he put his hand on his protégé’s other arm.
“That’s why we only take photos of them. You don't need to worry about any damage”, he gave Izuku a reassuring smile, to which the teen replied the same.
And Hisashi? He never felt so much betrayal in his life.
It was the same way Izuku was looking at him. He is looking with the same amazement at Yagi.
Midoriya-san wasn't sure if he wanted to cry while eating ice cream and watching bad comedy movies or to throw hands with the man.
One of the options could get him into jail.
The other could bring eternal happiness.
Hisashi never established which option was what.
“Right… I will bring them here” Izuku got up from the couch, again with enthusiasm in her eyes. He quickly walked towards his room, where he disappeared.
Now it was only Yagi and the older Midoriya sitting awkwardly on the couch. The blonde man looked like he wanted to say something, but he quickly backed off. Instead, he could take a look at Izuku’s father.
The first thing that caught his eyes were freckles. Probably Izuku took them from him. He had dark hair that resembled Yagi, Midoriya’s hair shade. However, the man's eyes weren't green like his son’s. They were just dark.
Still, it was an obvious family connection.
“... You are a teacher at UA too?”
Toshinori almost jumped when Midoriya suddenly spoke up.
“Yes, I am” he nods, fully facing nodded. “I’m mostly a help to other teachers.”
It was a true statement. All Might was the one that taught classes. Yagi Toshinori was only for help. Most of the students don't even know him. Maybe a few.
“Right.”
And that was all from their conversation. Hisashi didn't want to ask about anything and Yagi felt too awkward to continue. Conversations with Izuku were easy. The boy always had some questions or things to talk about! The situation was different with his dad. The man seemed like Toshinori would already do something bad. He didn't even move from the couch.
When he looked around, he could feel the stare. It wasn't a nice one.
Maybe he should apologize? Yagi doesn't know for what, but he can. He still wanted to talk about… Young Izuku’s quirk. It would be hard if the man would kill him after every word.
“Midoriya-san…”
“I have them!”
A green-haired teen walked into the living room holding a stack of notebooks.
“There should be everything”. Izuku put the notebook on a coffee table, turning around to look at his dad and mentor.
“You want to take photos? Then I won't disturb you two.”
Hisashi got up from his place and ruffled his fondly teenaged hair. The look he gave Yagi wasn't that fond.
“If you need anything, I will be in my office”, he looked at Izuku for a few seconds, and walked out of the room. He should start writing down the reports. But knowing himself, he will end up eating his hidden chocolate bars in sadness. It's actually better than violence!
When they heard the closed doors, the two of them looked at each other.
“Did you talk to dad?”
“He doesn't seem like he wanted to…” hearing Izuku’s sighs, Yagi winced “But we can talk about it next time!”
“You know that I didn't tell him about anything, Yagi!”
“I was thinking he knew about the training” he mumbled, looking at his protégé.
He actually came to see the notebooks and Nedzu really wanted the photos. However, he wanted to talk with Izuku’s dad too. They never really told him about… One for All. At first, Yagi didn't see the reason why. Then he got to know Izuku better. Maybe he even calls him his kid! He realized, as a parent, he wouldn't like things of that sort being hidden from him. Especially when young Izuku can be in danger.
“Don't worry, young Izuku! I will talk with him”. After all, Yagi promised he would be the one telling the truth.
Izuku nods, giving him a supportive smile. It genuinely eased him a bit. Maybe Midoriya-san just had a bad day. Next time he will surely be more open!
“And Izuku just brought himself another dad! And he looks like some skeleton from Undertale! Am I not enough?”
“I’m sure it's not like that” Sansa opposes, as he holds the phone by his arm. He had just started to cook himself dinner when Hisashi called him. What a friend he would be if he didn't pick up.
“You weren't there, Sansa! They looked at each other like me and Zu!”
“You watched too many comedies.”
“We watched them together.”
“And you are the one with weird ideas” Sansa rolled his eyes, as he cut the vegetables.
For a few seconds there was no sound of the call. The cat officer needed to check if he didn't disconnect. When he opens his mouth to break the silence, Hisashi sighs.
“Do you think I'm a bad father?”
“What?” Tamakawa frowned, as much as a cat could do. “If you are a bad father, Tsukauchi isn't a workaholic.”
Normally, that would bring laughter from his s. This time it didn't.
“I’m really trying to play as two parents… But maybe I’m not enough? What am I doing wrong?”
“And that's enough sad thoughts for today. Listen, Hisashi, if I could even call anyone the best dad, it would be you.”
“I haven't finished yet” he quickly added, when Midoriya tried to say something, “You always take care of Izuku. And you always talk about him, it's so visible that you care. I think I don't need to remind you when you cry after seeing ‘the best dad’ mug? Or when you specially dressed up as All Might for his birthday?”
“And everyone knows how you hate him.”
“I did it only for Izuku!”
“Exactly! If you weren't a good parent, you wouldn't do that” Sansa smiled. “You are usually the smart one, but you don't know things like that? Are you really Midoriya Hisashi?”
Hisashi just snorted at his words. Sansa was really a good friend.
“If you really think you are doing something wrong, spend some time with Izuku. You can always get some free days from the station. Tsukauchi won't notice.”
“...Thanks Sansa. I think I already know what I can do.”
Tamakawa nodded with a smile. They said a quick goodbye, and he could already focus on cooking. The officer didn't know what he caused by his last words.
In Midoriya’s apartament, Hisashi smiled determinedly. He will fight for his best dad's rights!
OMAKE:
Izuku was standing right next to his bedroom door: I didn't hear any screams. Maybe they haven't talked about quirk, yet?
Hisashi and Yagi being in awkward silence: …
Hisashi: Zu I had a genius idea! I will visit your school :D
Izuku remembers his chaotic class, tired teacher, villain attacks and Shouto’s dad theory: … That's not a good idea.
