He knows this is his greatest sin: that his sadness remains within him, ruling over him almost every day of the long months. Summer is the worst of it. The days are hot and the apartments are sweltering, so they are forced to sit outside and be gawked out by the rest of Santiago’s court.
Winter is better. Santiago despises the cold and his court will follow suit. Louis is left alone.
Or his greatest sin is this: Still wearing the colors of the conquered House of Du Pointe Du Lac despite it having been a small and irrelevant part of the greater picture.
Neither of these is his greatest sin. He has yet to arrive.
