Help four kids from the future just told me I'm gay?

Summary:

When Wei Wuxian woke up that morning, head dully aching from the night before, he had assumed that it would be like every other day he had had here so far. Wake up late, get to class late, tune out the old goat the whole lecture, pass notes with Nie-xiong, go fetch emperor's smile from Caiyi town and then drink till late. Indeed so far he had both woken up late and gotten to class late and while he had been ignoring Lan Qiren for almost a shí chén he had yet to pass Nie Huaisang any notes. The one he'd been doodling didn't count as it was still on his desk, albeit now illegible. Not that that mattered, as Wei Wuxian (and every other person in the room) had his eyes fixed on the four older teens that now stood in the centre of the room. They'd arrived in a large burst of qi and small swirling curls of it still clung to the bottom of their robes, two Lans, a Jin and one from a smaller sect he couldn't remember. Didn't matter, what did matter is they were staring at Wei Wuxian, Nie Huaisang and Jiang Wanyin like they'd each sprouted an extra head. The Jin (Wei Wuxian was desperately trying to ignore how eerily familiar his eyes were) choked out a garbled "Jiujiu?" and all hell broke loose.

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian woke to the thought that this was all unfair, and also to a feather pillow being slammed on his head. He is certain it is far to early to be awake, it absolutely could not be very far into the hour of the dragon and while that was much better than the Lans hour of the rabbit he'd much rather be asleep until a much more reasonable hour of the snake. The pillow hitting him for a fifth? time disagrees and he sits up with a dawn out groan.

"Jiang Cheng..." The pillow hits him a sixth time, in the side this time, as Jiang Cheng stares down at him. "Get up, we're going to be late." Jiang Cheng says sounding almost angry if you didn't know him well enough, Wei Wuxian knew it was really fond exasperation, although Jiang Cheng would say he's ridiculous if he ever voiced that.

Wei Wuxian got ready in record time his student robes as unruly as they always are and he grabs Suíbiàn and his ribbon and races out the door after Jiang Cheng. After strapping on Suíbiàn and tugging his hair up into his customary topknot he throws himself at Jiang Cheng, one arm over his shoulder with a half laughed "Jiang Cheng!". The playful shove he gets in return is laughed away as they rush towards the lecture hall the droning voice of Lan Qiren already echoing around inside, the noise silencing as the two enter only to pick up once more in complaint.

"Wei Wuxian, Jiang Wanyin!" He not yells (yelling is forbidden) at the two as they shuffle over to their seats. "An entire kè late, you'll be coping lines for a shí chén as punishment" He says and they both groan, not that that matter much to Wei Wuxian who is already copying lines for the next 3 weeks anyway. The reminder (definitely the reminder) draws his eyes towards Lan Zhan who is staring forward at Lan Qiren his back straight and posture as perfect as ever. An almost guilty call of "Yes Lan-xiansheng" echoes though the lecture hall and Lan Qiren continues where he left off. If asked Wei Wuxian would say he spent the next however long staring at nothing, if anyone else was asked they'd say they weren't looking, if Nie Huaisang was asked he'd say that Wei Wuxian spent the next full shí chén staring at Lan Wanji. Fortunately nobody asks and Wei Wuxian continues staring into space his finger softly tracing the table.

Said tracing is interrupted when he slides his finger at just the wrong angle along a thin piece of parchment and slices a shallow wound into it. The soft pained hiss is hidden by the ongoing lecture and Wei Wuxian stares at the offending parchment in silence as he gently directs some qi towards the wound, the cut quickly stitching itself together and the now healed hand reaching for his brush, dipping it into some ink and he brings it above the parchment. He considers for a while who, what, and why and just decides to draw the old goat with a laughably large head so he can pass it behind him to Nie Huaisang. Its objectively beautiful, but truthfully ugly, and Wei Wuxian can't help but feel proud at the likeness he'd captured in the sketch. He brings his brush down to add the last touch to that beard and multiple things happen at once.

Everything goes white, followed by an insurmountably large wave of qi hitting him full force, every muscle in his body tensing up as his hand slams onto the table, his meridians roaring to life as they try to filter out the invading qi. Several loud thumps echo across the hall and the offending qi stops clouding his vision. Wei Wuxian blinks furiously as he turns slightly to look towards where the qi originated from not sure what to expect, a god? An immortal? Some spiritual beast? Four older teens, maybe 16 or 17 are not what he's expecting. The four are standing close together, whispy curls of still solid qi clinging to the hems of their robes as they look around bewildered. Wei Wuxian can't help but notice several people missing and a quick glance reveals their slumped forms on the ground, likely having passed out when the qi hit their meridians and Wei Wuxian snaps his head to look at Jiang Cheng in concern, Jiang Cheng is giving him an equally panicked look. He turns back to look at the teens and, despite the situation, almost laughs at the look on their faces.

The four, two Lans, a Jin and a boy from some sect he can't remember, are looking at him, Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang like they'd each sprung a second head to match their first. The Lans, one gawking in a very unLan like way, both stare at him in confused silence, the fourth undetermined one is staring behind him at Nie Huaisang, and the Jin is staring next to him at Jiang Cheng. He seems torn between staying silent and saying something and his eyes momentarily flick over to look at Wei Wuxian. That look, it's.... hauntingly familiar, Wei Wuxian is sure he's seen those eyes, seen those eyes every day for years, but that is impossible, those eyes belong on..on...no those eyes are not familiar they aren't, he refuses. Those eyes, the Jins eyes snap back to Jiang Cheng and the Jin takes a half aborted step forward hand raising slightly as if to react out to him.

"Jiujiu?"

What. What? Jiujiu? Who? Wei Wuxian turn to stare at Jiang Cheng who is staring at the Jin. Everyone is staring at the Jin. Then as if snapped out of a daze everyone begins to speak over eachother a cacophony of confusion and all Wei Wuxian can do is stare at the Jin, at those eyes, and feel an overwhelming sense of dread.

Chapter 2: The peacock did what?!

Summary:

Wei Wuxian started the day mildly irritated. Then peacefully drifting. Then absolutely terrified and confused. Then what could only be described as the protective fury a man feels for his big sister.

Chapter Text

The loud shouting is interrupted as the hall doors burst open a harried and concerned Lan Xichen hurries inside. Every head turns to stare at him as he takes in the situation and calls out to the other disciples with him "there are people unconscious!" and then disciples flood in to carry away the unconscious. Everyone else, plus Lan Xichen, stare at the four standing in the centre of the room in silence. Then a soft, almost inaudible (any non cultivator definitely wouldn't have heard it) voice calls out "me? Jiujiu?" and every head snaps back to Jiang Cheng who is ghostly white and staring at the Jin like the teen had told him his entire family was going to die.

The Jin at least, had the sensibility to look slightly embarrassed about his outburst and is then punched hard in the arm by the unLan Lan. "Mistress Jin, what were you thinking!" The unLan Lan says to the Jin before his arm is grabbed by the Lan Lan and he turns to look at Jiang Cheng "Apologies Jiang-gongzi, Jin Rulan was not thinking properly when he addressed you. This one is Lan Yuan, courtesy Sizhui, it is a pleasure to meet you. If this one might be so bold as to ask Jiang-gongzi inform this one of the year?"

That catches Wei Wuxians attention and he looks at the Lan Lan, Lan Sizhui. "Its the 18th year of Xuan Zheng." Wei Wuxian says as he studies the four. Lan Sizhui and the fourth boy look like they both expected that answer the unLan Lan chokes and stares at Wei Wuxian and the Jin, Jin Rulan, just continues to stare at Jiang Cheng. The unLan Lan looks like he might feint at the answer as he mumbles "year 18? That's like 21 years" and the fourth boy punches him in the arm with a hushed "shut up."

Wei Wuxian stares at them his face amused and tone playful as he calls out "21 huh?" but inside he's panicking. 21 years? 21 years of what? Horrifyingly Wei Wuxian thinks he knows what 21 years means. Four teenage boys, of what appears to be passable but not overly strong cultivation, do not appear in a room in a burst of qi so strong it knocks people out, call someone uncle despite the teen in question having no nephews and then ask what year it is. It's insane, if you told Wei Wuxian a shí chén ago he'd be questioning time travel he'd have called you mad, or drunk, and yet here he is. Questioning if the four teens before him have traveled 21 years into the past. And even worse than that it's make sense, calling Jiang Cheng his maternal uncle, the recognition in his eyes, his eyes.

Then it hits him. Jin. Jin. That boy, Jiang Chengs nephew is a Jin. And Wei Wuxian stands up with a snarl swirling to face Jin Zixuan. "Peacock what did you do to my shijie!"

Chapter 3: Finally an introduction

Summary:

Wei Wuxian really doesn't want to know what happens.

Chapter Text

Jin Zixuan is looking back at him with what could only be described as a bewildered, hurt and guilty expression. A mix Wei Wuxian is not expecting, he hears Jiang Cheng hurriedly standing besides him. They both move as if to step forward but are stopped short by a sharp noise. A haunting noise. The sound a dying animal makes, a harsh shrill wail filled with so much grief no living human should ever be able to make it. Every head turns to face the source and Wei Wuxian feels his knees go weak at what he sees.

Jin Rulan is stood there half slumped staring at Jin Zixuan. His eyes are spilling tears so fast one might believe he'd never cried before, his face twisted into a look of grief so fierce Wei Wuxian nearly stumbles. The Lans have both lurched forwards and gripped onto Jin Rulan as if to hold him up, and truly Wei Wuxian believes they might be. Then he sees it. The sword on Jin Rulans hip, it's not his own, it's familiar, it's Jin Zixuans. He snaps back to look at Jin Zixuan who had stood at the noise and is now looking between his sword and...well his sword.

Then Jin Rulan is running, loud thuds as he throws himself bodily into Jin Zixuan with a sob, the two collapsing in a messy golden heap. Wei Wuxian watches and then walks to the other three making sure to keep the father and son in sight. "Lan Sizhui, I believe you and I need to talk" The teen remains silent for a moment looking at the Jins with a strange mix of sorrow and happiness. "Yes senior Wei, I believe we do." Wei Wuxian nods and looks around. "21 years is a long time, there's too many people, who stays?" He says as he looks back at Lan Sizhui who looks around the room. "I believe it best Hua- Second young master Lan, First young master Lan, Lan-xiansheng, Senior Wei, Jiang-gongzi, Nie-gongzi and Jin-gongzi remain." Wei Wuxian nods and turns towards Lan Qiren who is pale and watching the event stiffly. Then with a gruff voice he orders out everyone who wasn't listed.

Wei Wuxian stares around at those that remain and tries to make connections in his head that make sense, all the Lans that stay make sense I mean there are two future Lans here, Jin Zixuan and Jiang Cheng make sense, but him and Nie Huaisang? less so. The 11 of them eventually settling down around a table in awkward silence as Jin Rulan sniffles. Wei Wuxian laughs awkward before blurting out "So uh...the future huh?" Which earns him an overwhelmed laugh from Jiang Cheng and a withering look from Lan Zhan. "Yes Senior Wei," Comes the calm voice of Lan Sizhui "I'm afraid the four of us where fiddling with one of Senior Weis talismans and well...ended up here. I apologise." Wei Wuxian looks up at that, one of his talismans? "I see, do you still have it on you?" "Yes Senior Wei" and then he's being handed a talisman. At first glance it's hardly recognisable, but knowing himself that's likely on purpose, a closer look reveals a few characters he recognises time, bend, backwards, forwards, locate and move. And then half hashed characters he'd have to study further. "I see. I do believe perhaps introductions and family relations are in order?" Wei Wuxian says which earns him three "yes Senior Wei"'s and a sniffle.

"Jin Ling, courtesy Rulan, son of Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli. Current sect leader of the Jin sect" the wet voice is interrupted by occasional sniffles and the last sentence earns a few gasped and a choked out "What?!" From Jin Zixuan.

"Ouyang Zizhen, no courtesy name, son of Ouyang Qingying and Fa Yan. Current heir of the Ouyang sect" the fourth boy, Ouyang Zizhen introduces himself, a small sect.

"Lan Yuan, courtesy Sizhui, son of Lan Wanji" multiple sharp gasps and a choked noise from Lan Qiren "inner disciple in the Lan sect." Wei Wuxian throws a glance at Lan Zhan who is staring at Lan Sizhui with a strange expression.

"Lan Yi, Courtesy Jingyi, son of Lan Xichen" more gasps and chokes "inner disciple in the Lan sect."

That makes everyone pause. Both Lans had not introduced mothers, both Lans were just inner disciples. Wei Wuxian looks around and Lan Xichen looks at Lan Jingyi curiously "No mother?" He asks and Lan Jingyi laughs "Sizhui and I are both adopted" he says and Wei Wuxian sees both Lan Qiren and curiously Lan Zhan relax slightly.

Wei Wuxian looks around and finds the air so stiff he can't help himself "aiyah! What about me, a-Cheng and Nie-xiong, are we married do we have kids?" Which earns him two incredulous looks, Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang, a smile, Lan Sizhui, and two frowns, Lan Qiren and Jin Rulan. "Ah, yes. Senior Wei is married with a son, both Nie-gongzi and Jiang-gongzi are unwed and childless" Wei Wuxian throws a smile at Lan Sizhui. "So helpful and polite, Lan Zhan raised you well!" Which earns him a wide smile from Lan Sizhui a frown from Lan Zhan and smirk from Lan Jingyi. "Aren't you going to tell him who?" He says smugly and Lan Sizhui turns to glare at him "no." Wei Wuxian can't help but pout "oh come on Sizhui can't you tell, tell senior Wei!" He says but only gets a sharp "No. If I tell you now before you've fallen in love you'll only worry it isn't real. Your beloved already loves you but you have to fall yourself too. We aren't telling you" he glares at Lan Jingyi as he says the last sentence and Wei Wuxian can't help but laugh. "Hear that Lan Zhan, your son is being mean to me." A quiet "Wei Ying" is all he gets in return.

Lan Sizhui shuffles over to Lan Zhan and gestures for him to lean down. Whatever it is that he whispers to him causes red to bleed into Lan Zhans cheeks and his eyes to widen and Wei Wuxian can't help himself and let's out a jokingly offended laugh "Lan Zhan that's not fair, your son told you why cant he tell me?" But Lan Zhan won't even look at him, which personally he finds a little upsetting. Eventually after recieving no response he turns back to the group, most just look bored but Jin Zixuan looks to be in pain and, Jin Rulan while no longer crying still has a devastating look on his face with one hand clinging desperately to Jin Zixuans robe.

"So....um...we need to talk about..." Jiang Cheng gestures at the Jins and gets a sharp glare from Jin Zixuan. "Jiang Cheng is right, there's probably things in the future we need to avoid." Which gets him a table full of nods and Jin Rulan bursting into tears.

Chapter 4: Wen Ruohan needs to die

Summary:

Wei Wuxian hates being smart.

Chapter Text

It takes almost half a kè to get Jin Rulan to stop crying. It takes a shí chén to get through the whole 21 years. None of the Lans cry, Jin Zixuan only cries once, Nie Huaisang starts crying at the mention of his brothers death and hasn't stopped since, both he and Jiang Cheng had cried a total of 10 times each and we're now clutching at eachother desperately, Jin Rulan had buried his head in his father's side the second Jin Zixuan started crying and hasn't come out since. Once Lan Sizhui stops talking Wei Wuxian just stares at him. Eventually Lan Xichen speaks up announcing that everyone should retire for today and he shall have rooms prepared, at once several people begin to leave Jin Zixuan giving a short "A-Ling is staying with me" which earns him a fresh set of broken wails and the two rushing out the room, Lan Jingyi and Ouyang Zizhen begin to walk away Lan Jingyi telling Lan Xichen that'd he'd take them to his room, which is likely not in use. Jiang Cheng gives a still crying Nie Huaisang a frown and begins guiding him out.

Wei Wuxian goes to stand, intending to leave but is stopped by a gentle hand to his forearm "Senior Wei, perhaps it is best we stay and discuss the talisman" Wei Wuxian gives Lan Sizhui a look, glancing around to watch Lan Xichen and Lan Qiren walking out, which leaves just him Lan Sizhui and Lan Zhan. "Right." He takes out the talisman studying it from a few angles before handing it to Lan Zhan "Lan Zhan what do you think?" The soft "mn" he gets in reply tells him nothing and Lan Zhan refuses to look at him instead staring down at the talisman like it's personally offended him. The silence stretches on for a while only interrupted by the soft crinkle of the talisman being moved occasionally.

Eventually Lan Zhan hands it back his head faced to the side "Character for travel is facing backwards" and Wei Wuxian stares down at the talisman, he's right it is and Wei Wuxian grabs some spare parchment and draws a second talisman so the character for travel is facing towards forwards instead. The new talisman is handed to Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian turns back to face Lan Sizhui. Questioning him about the events more specifically gets him more detailed but hesitant and wary answers, the information is helpful and he begins listing names, enemies, foes, friends and family. Eventually he begins looping back focusing on Lan Sizhui specifically, no not Lan Sizhui, a-Yuan his a-Yuan. They talk for a while about his radish, about his death then their reunion and Wei Wuxian can't help but wonder why the answers he's getting aren't satisfying him.

He pretty much adopts an orphan of war, he raises him for a while, he dies, Lan Zhan finds a-Yuan and raises him for 13 years before Wei Wuxian is brought back, a-Yuan remembers his past and they live happily together. But Lan Zhan lives with a-Yuan and Wei Wuxian lives with his wife and son. Maybe a-Yuan is the son? But why would Lan Zhan want to live with Wei Wuxian and his wife? Maybe Wei Wuxian and his wife live nearby? "a-Yuan was Lan Zhan married?" He asks absentmindedly and a soft yes has him pondering once more. Lan Zhan is married and lives with a-Yuan and Wei Wuxian and Wei Wuxians wife, but why all five of them? That's a lot of people and in the first place it sounds like Wei Wuxian is only married after he comes back, and he gets brought back, then brought to Gusu, then to Koi tower for a short while then to a small war then back to Gusu again. Wei Wuxian would never marry a Jin which means he had to have married someone from Gusu, or maybe Caiyi town? But he doesn't stay down there long enough to fall in love and his wife is already in love with him, he's only been here a few weeks, that's not long enough for someone in Caiyi to fall in love with him, a love that lasts 13 years. So one of the Lan disciples? But who? Wei Wuxian can not think of a single female Lan disciple his age. Not one. Plus the only Lan he really hangs out with is Lan Zhan. "when did Lan Zhan get married?" "After your revival." Okay. So he and Lan Zhan got married pretty close together...wait do him and Lan Zhan share a wife????

"Did me and Lan Zhan marry the same woman?" He hears a choked noise half way through the sentence but a-Yuan gives a fond yet exasperated "No senior Wei" so he pays it no mind. If he and Lan Zhan didn't marry the same woman then who did he marry? Because Lan Zhan clearly waited until Wei Wuxian was back to get married, and they got married around the same time, they live together with whoever they marry and raise a child together. Clearly Lan Zhan is already in love with his wife, based on his reaction to whatever a-Yuan said earlier. Wei Wuxian gives a confused huff and rubs his nose. "But me and Lan Zhan are both married?" "Yes senior Wei." "And we both raise you?" "Yes senior Wei" "together?" "Yes Senior Wei" "but we didn't marry the same woman?" "No senior Wei" "right..."

Wei Wuxian is confused this isn't making sense. The only thing that makes sense is if him and Lan Zhan.... Wei Wuxian makes a choked squeal as all the air leaves his lungs his eyes snapping open to stare at Lan Zhan who was looking at him with wide eyes clearly startled by the noise. Wei Wuxian just stares as he feels himself slowly go cherry red "ah?" "Yes senior Wei" the response causes him to snap his gaze to Lan Sizhui who is smiling at him. "What?" Wei Wuxian chokes out as he stares back at Lan Zhan before standing up and bolting out the hall towards the disciples dorms.

Chapter 5: Back to the future

Summary:

Hopefully the kids are fine.

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian isn't thinking when he runs out the lecture hall. Wei Wuxian isn't thinking when he runs across the cloud recess. Wei Wuxian isn't thinking when he bursts into his dorm, a sobbing Nie Huaisang in Jiang Chengs arms as they sit on his bed. Wei Wuxian isn't thinking when he slams the door behind him, turns to the two and yells "Lan Zhan made me a cut-sleeve!"

Only then does Wei Wuxian start thinking. And he thinks the situation is ridiculous. Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang must agree, because Jiang Cheng is staring at him in horror and Nie Huaisang is so surprised by the statement he's stopped crying. Then Wei Wuxian starts thinking about what he's just yelled and he slumps back against the door. "Oh gods. Lan Zhan and I are married and Lan Sizhui is our son." At this point Nie Huaisang has sat up and is looking down at Wei Wuxian with an odd expression, Jiang Cheng is still looking at him horrified. "You and Second young master Lan" Nie Huaisang says, voice rough and Jiang Cheng gets up to give him some water "Yes! And I think I'm already in...like! Like. Definitely like!" Wei Wuxian can't even think of staying the word love, just the thought turns his insides to mush. "You're in like with Lan Wanji?" He asks after he sips on his water, dabbing at his red and swollen eyes "I am. Oh gods I am. I have to tell him!" Wei Wuxian says as he stands "wait what?" "I'm going to find him right now!" Wei Wuxian says as he stands up and rushes out the room Nie Huaisang and Jiang Cheng running behind him.

As soon as he spots Lan Zhan he yells out for him "Lan Zhan!" And everyone in the vicinity turns to stare at him, Lan Zhan included. Wei Wuxian runs closer until he's standing right in front of Lan Zhan “You’re really great. I like you. Or in other words, I fancy you, I love you, I want you, I can’t leave you, I whatever you.” He rushes it all out eyes scrunched shut and face red before peeking one open to look at Lan Zhan, who is watching him wide eyed. "oh my gods." comes a-Yuans voice and they both turn to look at him. "that's the exact same confession as..." And that makes Wei Wuxian stare at Lan Zhan who is staring at him in turn. Then he's being embraced, strong warm arm pulling him against Lan Zhan as he murmurs back "Want you....love you..." And Wei Wuxian thinks he's going to explode.

The surrounding disciples do explode cloud recess erupting in noise, everyone gathering around and Wei Wuxian hides in Lan Zhans shoulder, snuggling closer when he hears a fond "Wei Ying" eventually the elders settle everyone down, Lan Qiren pulling Lan Zhan away and the original eleven are left together again. Lan Zhan pulls out the second talisman and holds it out to Lan Sizhui who grabs it. "Guys we have to go back, a-die and a-niang says it'll take us back" and Wei Wuxian goes bright red at the address lips shaping over a-niang as he stares at a-Yuan.

It takes a while to get Jin Rulan to leave his father's side, even longer before the quartet use the talisman. They disappear in a whirlwind of qi the surrounding qi dragged towards them, fueling the talisman, some of Wei Wuxians own qi seeping from his meridians. They stand there the seven of them looking at eachother and Lan Xichen gives a long sigh. "Retire for today, we shall start making plans tomorrow for what to do with our knowledge" and they all disperse.

That night as Wei Wuxian slumps into bed he wonders what he's supposed to do now, now that he knows what his future brings, now that he knows about his son, his sister, his nephew, his love. He sleeps that night and dreams of red. The red of the Wen, the red of blood, the red of his sister's wedding robes, the red of his. It's a nice dream all things considered because this time he's going to save everyone.

Chapter 6

Summary:

Tying up loose ends

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian can't say he wasn't expecting the Wens announcement. That would be a lie. Wei Wuxian can't say he wasn't expecting it to announce the death of Wen Ruohan and his sons. Wei Wuxian can't say he was expecting the announcement to name Wen Qing as the new sect leader. That would be a lie. He was expecting Wen Ning, but he won't say he's disappointed, that too would be a lie. He's gotten rather fond of the siblings since he'd approached them with his knowledge. He hadn't been believed at first but once Wen Ruohan started discussing the attack on the cloud recess Wen Qing had changed her opinion pretty fast. The Wens seemed rather content now, a sect of healers instead of fighters, and all those who did not agree found themselves quickly removed from Wen territory. Wen Qing decided to disperse land among the great sects leaving small areas for the Wen sect to set up outposts to allow for their healers to be wide spread amongst cultivator territory, a few sects even exchanging land deeper in their territory to allow for healer outposts closer to them. Few had tried to fight it, although Jin Guangshan seemed offended by how little he had received. Wei Wuxian was happy for them, pretty much all the news he received for the Wens warmed his heart. All but one, the passing of Wen Xia, she'd passed during childbirth, and a freshly wed Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan had traveled into the heart of Wen territory to pay respect.

-----------------

Wen Yuan was small, so small Wei Wuxian almost couldn't believe how big he'd grow up to be if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes. Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan knelt for a long time to pay respect to Wen Yuans parents, and to ask for their blessings for their child. Wen-popo was reluctant, but only because she would miss Wen Yuan. Wei Wuxian knew she could see how much they loved Wen Yuan. How gently they held him and how warm he made them feel. When Wei Wuxian and his husband left Wen territory back to Gusu with their a-Yuan they both had wide smiles. And when they settled him to bed in his room by the Jingshi they both knew everything would be alright.

------------------

See while Wei Wuxian thought Jin Ling was suspiciously healthy for a baby born only 6 months after his parents wedding he held his tongue, he and Lan Zhan would have no room to talk. He did however give Jin Zixuan a grumpy look and held his Shijie tight as he looked down at a-Ling (Madame Yu had thrown a cup at Jin Zixuan and threatened to whip him if he didn't treat a-Li right). His one month celebration had been a huge event so far and everyone was so relieved that nobody was dead. He'd given him a bell that was designed to repel all evil, no ghosts or corpses would be getting anywhere near Jin Ling so long as he had his bell. The celebration lasted 3 days and Wei Wuxian was happy to be going home by the end of it, Lan Zhan sharing his sentiment. As they settled a-Yuan into bed they shared a soft smile, things were going to be alright.

--------------

When Sizhui, Jingyi, Rulan and Zizhen came marching into the Jingshi Wei Wuxian had looked up in alarm. When a-Ling had called him the yilling patriarch he'd gone still. When Sizhui said their memories from the two lives had merged he relaxed then tensed once more. When the four had burst out laughing and told him they were so glad everything was changed he'd stood up and hugged them "I'm sorry boys, that you have to remember the bad from that life" hed said, not knowing what else to say. And the boys had all started crying. By the time Lan Zhan came home, the five were all cuddled together and Wei Wuxian had given a soft explanation and asked him to call each of their parents to fetch them. That night Wei Wuxian would dream of shadows and symbols and a fierce corpse selling radishes, of Jiang Yanli kneeling at her husbands altar, of little apple carrying him home. That morning Lan Zhan had embraced him and murmured a soft "it was the same" and maybe over the coming weeks the original eleven would make off hand comments on the small slivers of memories they'd dreamt and maybe Jiang Cheng had punched him, called him an idiot and then made him promise never to turn to demonic cultivation and maybe he'd made him promise never to give up his core. And maybe when Wei Wuxian looked back on that day 21 years ago he was glad it wasn't like every other day because otherwise life would not be this great.

Notes:

What do you think of my first fic guys?

Also Meng Yao never ended up getting recognised by Jin Guangshan and when Jin Guangshan returned to the brothel a few years after Wen Rouhans death Meng Yao killed his father and went on the run.

Nie Huaisang recruited Wen Qing to fix his brother and Wen Qing bullied Nie Mingjue into a vaguely healthy cultivation and significantly less risk of deviation.

Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan have a daughter and then two more sons and Mo Xuanyu becomes the best uncle ever, because he plays with them everyday (he's their babysitter) the four Jins love grandma Yu and grandpa Jiang and although she'd never admit it Madame Yu cried for each at her grandchildrens births.

Lan Xichen and Wei Wuxian eventually become best friends (and drinking buddies) and torment Lan Qiren together. Alternatively Lan Wanji and Jiang Wanyin also become best friends and drinking buddies the two of them bonding over the devastating memories they'd recalled, the two of them seeming to get some of the worst (Wen Ning will never tell anyone he remembers anything, but he does and what he remembers leaves him terrified)

Notes:

Constructive criticism is welcome, hate is not.

Is it wrong to be doing this half for the fic and half to see if the curse is real?
