Chapter 1: A last glimpse of life as he knew it

Chapter Text

PROLOGUE

Soulmates, a simple word that had a lot of meanings.

For most people, it was their life, their other half, love… in its pure form of expression, love that wasn't capable of doing harm, it complemented you and gave you happiness for the rest of your life.

To Seungmin it meant weakness and pain, he had seen first hand what soulmates could do to one.

Kim Seungmin, otherwise known as the prodigy of law, the terror of gangs and the mafia in South Korea, son of a powerful lawmaker, took in the steps of his father, and became one, people close to him know that he stands for his morals and beliefs strongly than everyone in this job field.

He woke up, ready for a new day on his (definitely) exciting life, working at his father's company usually gave him some privileges, not that he used them that much, to avoid the media putting articles like 'Kim Seungmin, the new nepo baby’  Or some shit like that, but essentially what he did for a living was to attend to important meetings instead of his father, listen and write down the main points.

Other things he does are charity and humanitarian organizations. What he loves the most is seeing people happy, when it’s true happiness their smiles can light up even his darkest days and that’s all he needs.

His main job is to write up laws and give approval of them
, he had to study day and night to find loopholes and fix them.

That’s one of the main issues here, you’ll be surprised of how the most horrifying crimes get swept under the rug because of that, he knows many politicians holding powerful positions within the government are part of the same Mafias, and those legal loopholes are part of the show, to allow them to commit whatever crimes they want with no fear of repercussions, that’s also why his father's company exists, to erase that poison from the roots.

Bathed and ready to go outside, he twisted the door knob, but then, a light of something shiny caught his eye, moving just in time to the side, a bullet incrusted on the hard wood that narrowly missed his head for an inch, a wave of nausea flooded through him.

No matter how many times it happened, he could never get used to it, how his life could be taken from him at any moment just because he decided that maybe this country needed someone like him someone who will try to make changes that he’ll fight the corruption that is rooted inside the government and engulfing everything within it.

Body trembling and hands shaking, Seungmin took a step at the door, now, noticing a tiny piece of paper around the bullet, looking at it the young buy couldn’t help but let a chuckle take over his face.

We are watching you sweetheart.

                              - SKZ

A choked breath left his lips.

Blank took over, panic within his mind wanted to rise and take over his thoughts, and as much as he would like to cry and sob the whole day in his bed, he couldn’t.

Does he know who they are? Of course he knew who they were, how could he not? The biggest and most powerful gang in South Korea and… the seven leaders that made it work and grow to what has become today are his soulmates so maybe that’s a tiny bit of a problem.

Seungmin stood on the periphery of the press conference, the room buzzing with tension. His eyes flicked to the shadows where seven pairs of eyes gleamed ominously. He groaned to his insides, he’s been in enough of this situations to know what was happening.

He shifted his gaze cautiously from one figure to another, watching how they shouted at everyone to stay on the ground. When his eyes met what seemed to be the leader’s, a rush of colors and emotions surged through him, vivid and overwhelming. The sensation was so intense that he could barely process it.

Everybody knew that the leaders of the SKZ gang were all soulmates so if Seungmin was soulmate of one of them then that would mean…with hesitation and hope that maybe he’ll only be destined to one of them he glanced carefully to the eyes of the others while he was on the floor, since the guys where screaming stuff that Seungmin didn’t want to process.

His hope was crushed in front of him as he watched the eyes of the freckled one, the same sensation and more colors came to his sight, he sighed and continued to make the same process with everyone and each time he was greeted by a flood of feelings he hadn’t thought possible. After he was done the realization hit him like a truck: his life had irrevocably changed.

Seungmin kept his eyes cast firmly to the floor, desperate to keep his emotions hidden and get through the whole ordeal unnoticed. Just as he tried to focus on nothing but the ground, a sharp voice cut through his thoughts.

“Hey, I’m talking to you.”

His heart skipped. The voice was familiar, belonging to the boy with striking cat-like eyes, the one he had connected with earlier. With his gaze still fixed downward, Seungmin knew the universe was conspiring against him.

And he felt the world freeze as the man approached him, he could see it in the silhouette on the floor and a hand was on his shoulder then a tight squeeze as if the man was going to stand him up.

“Min let’s go! Quick! The cops are here”

Saved by the bell, his sweat dripping cold, he felt how eyes bore in his being as they went away.

Seungmin felt his legs shaking, the adrenaline from the situation running out from his body, his

“There’s no fucking way…” An almost whisper like sentence left his mouth. It was unbelievable and unacceptable, how in the world did the universe think it was a great plan to pair him with fucking gangsters!? He, the perfect son of Kim Yeunjoon, born to be at the top, defended the law, ironic that his soulmates are the biggest criminals South Korea has seen in the last decade.

There were a lot of things that would go wrong, not to mention the one-way bond he did, it was gonna hurt like a bitch, you see, there’s the full-way bonds that are your normal bonds where the soulmates look at each others eyes, and the one-way bonds, where only one of the soulmates saw the others eyes, unfortunately Seungmin was the second one, a one-way bond means that Seungmin would feel everything the others felt, but ten fold, since he didn’t have a full bond to share the weight.

The reason why this type of bond was so dangerous want because the pain or anything, it was more of the symptoms it caused: isolation, rejection, sickness and ultimately depression.

It’s dangerous that he doesn’t have a full bond but it would’ve worse if he allowed them to see his eyes.

He know these types of people, he know how they work, and when something gets in their way they definitely won’t hesitate to eliminate it, soulmate or not.

Then Seungmin is triple-hyper-mega fucked, cause he’s like the good guy in this situation and also the soulmate of 7 of the most dangerous people in South Korea.

May as well dig his grave now that he has the chance.
