Podfic of Better Halves (and other such falsehoods)

Summary:

Current length: 28 hours 24 minutes.

Danny’s looking at him like he’s crazy. His hair’s dried up into a mess of waves, and there’s some tomato seeds on the corner of his mouth. “You just bailed me out of jail. And you think this is a good idea?”
“I don’t have bad ideas, Fenton. And like you’ve just said, I have collateral on you.”
“So you’re blackmailing me into pretending to date you?”
Tim shrugs. “Or you could just sign the NDA.”

OR

Danny's trying to recover all the shards to an entity's chalice so that it'll stop destroying the zone while tensions rise amongst his subjects- and trying to finish high school.
Tim's juggling his case load, his work as CEO, and does not have time to be embroiled in a sex scandal right now. If that means he has to pretend to date a very suspicious heir to a rival company, then so be it.
It's a mutually beneficial relationship. So what if Tim's becoming a little too intrigued by the illusive, powerful Phantom? So what if Danny can't stand the Justice League for leaving him to deal with all of Amity's problems when he was just 14? That's a superhero thing.

And their fake boyfriend has no clue that they're a superhero.

This is my first ever podfic. Thank you so much Astereae for giving me permission to podficafy this work.

I have found a song for intros and outrows. Go check out Haunted House by SNAKE POOL for the whole thing. It's a great song and a great band.
If you hear the weird cut in the music at the very end of the outro, no you didn't lol.
I will go back and add it to chapters 1 and 2 at some point.

I sat down to edit this one today, (or rather yesterday at this point) and discovered I did not like any of the choices I made and how it was sounding. Luckily the hyperfixation was hyperfixating so I decided to scrap it, and completely re-record it rather than trying to slog through editing to make it somewhat something I thought was good. I'm still not 100% happy with all the choices I made, but I don't know how I would improve on the few things left that are still bugging me about it, so here we go.

One thing I caught while doing this chapter, is a really nice parallel to the last chapter where Tim was remarking on the beauty of Gotham, this time with Danny seeing the beauty in it despite all the things he does not like about the city.

Man, the voice I'm doing for Tim with it being very sharp and almost overenunciated some days really wants to veer into British. Today was one of them and it was a struggle to keep it from doing it.
Also, Danny, yes, the Air and Space Museum is really cool, but the Exploratorium in San Fran is also such a cool science museum. If you ever get the chance to go (to both really) highly recommend both very enjoyable museums.

Little bit of housekeeping, I likely won't be able to post another chapter this week, my TTRPG gm'ing weeks got synced up with each other, and I find myself needing to prep for running two sessions this weekend rather than just the one. Normally, that is not a problem, but one of them is using a system that both my players and I have only played one session of, and I am not as up with the rules as I need to be. If I am able to post, it will be late Saturday evening Pacific time

Favorite Line of the chapter: “That’s all. I’ll see you on New Years eve... babe.” The pet name sounds stilted and awkward, and Tuck covers his mouth to stifle his laughter.
I find great joy in the awkwardness of these two at the beginning.

We have an official upload schedule now. It will be in the evenings on Tuesday and Saturday. That being said, I will miss either this Saturday or this Tuesday depending on how much I get done tomorrow as I will be going out of town for a concert, and then don't know if I'll be driving back Sunday or Monday yet.

So glad whenever I get to simply use an accent to diferenciate between two characters! So thank you incredibly creepy ghosts for that.

Ya’ll are getting it a bit early cause I’m swinging by the coast today and don’t know what time I’ll get back to where I have Wi-Fi.
This chapter was oddly fitting for me to do, as the day after recording and editing I embarked on my own 8-hour road trip up to Oregon, though I made the drive for a concert and not a rich people party.
(and I managed to turn it into 11 by impulsively swinging by crater lake)
Duke, I feel you on the clutch and hills. When I was in high school my dad handed me the keys to his stick shift, said figure it out, and I had to teach myself how to drive stick. The only way I ended up able to get anywhere, was to map my way around the valley I lived in by least hills, and least potential stops.
My family too has assigned colors, my older sister and I jokingly call it our "assigned color at birth" (neither me or her particularly like our assigned color)
Absolutely love that this is the first time they have spent any really significant amount of time together. Of course, it would be while stuck in a small vehicle with siblings, couldn't imagine that any other way.
Favorite line of the chapter: "There is, actually, only one bed" Did you think it would be a different line?

I have survived my road trip! to this date it's the longest one I've made on my own, I learned I can go about 10 hours so long as I stop for a quick 30-minute hike or something in the middle along with the usual bathroom food and gas breaks and all that. I used to think I hated road trips, but I think that's cause all the previous ones have been made with at least 6 other people in the car at minimum, or have been this one particular drive between two cities where it basically just desert, and not super pretty after the first hour.
As for the concert I went to, yall should check out Amilia Day, she has some phenomenal music, one of which I have based the setting for a current DnD game off of.
I really love this chapter. It's like the first proper conversation these two idiots really have, and is a great foundation for their growing friendship.
I am trying to get a little buffer built up this week and next, as the following week I will be doing an evening side gig of filming a symphony and will not be able to work on this, hopefully, I will get that buffer up so the updates will continue.
Favorite line of the chapter: (you get two this time cause I think they mirror each other beautifully. "But he does. He falls asleep. Its really easy." and "but he’s so very rarely warm. He’s forgotten how much he missed it, how much the human body craves comfort."

And we have the end of the New Years arc! I think I've forgotten to mention this before, but Astereae does art for some of their chapters, This is one of them, so go check out the actual chapter 8 for the fantastic art. Seriously love it when a fic has art, really makes the brain go burrr.
Tim has more dots. he's trying to connect the dots. But I know from way in chapter 24 (where the fic currently is at time of upload) that he's still just tryin' to connect those dots.
We also have our first appearance of Elle (Danielle) she was probably my favorite Danny Phantom character growing up despite how little she appears in the actual show.

A because that's such an important line for Danny and who he is in this fic, and B for Tim's response to it. especially cause we're not to the part where either of the dumasses admit (to themselves or otherwise) that they like each other.

Hello Hello, I am back. I successfully survived filming the symphony (which is not a thing I've done before, I just have a weird collection of skills and moved into town at the right time to cover for the guy who normally does it while he's off-stage managing a Shakespeare festival) Its been a long time since I've been in a booth and it was good to be back.
I did however miss working on this project, so I'm happy to have the time to spend on this again. The goal is to keep chugging along at 2 chapters a week (or 3 every 2 weeks if it gets to be too much) till I'm able to catch up with Astereae. I do have some other fun projects that I will hopefully be able to get out while keeping at two chapters a week of this one.
This one is the longest chapter to date so far! I think before editing it was around 1 hour, and the final post is around 50 minutes if that gives a clue as to how much I have to fix of me speaking.
Anyway, hope yall are buckled in for next chapter, when I recorded it two weeks ago I decided to be a dramatic little bitch with it.

Seriously love the relationship between Tim and Damian in this fic, they are just so similar but have such a hard time around each other. Damian really is trying here, and Tim just doesn't even see that Damian might want to fix things with him as even a realm of possibility.

This chapter was so fun to record. It was also probably my easiest-to-edit chapter as I decided to leave a lot of the breaths and longer pauses than I normally do. (I'm also getting faster and better at the editing process too I like to think)
Wild to record this and then come back to edit it like 2-3 weeks after the fact, cause I forgot a lot of the acting choices I decided to make. The funniest being how absolutely crepy Lipless is (due to the writing of him) and then just the goofy ass voice I ended up giving to Frightnight later in the chapter. Gave me a laugh about it at least.

Favorite line from the chapter: "Tim is meant to be warm, and alive, and his hand shouldn’t be limp in his as they peel into the city, the hospital bay. And Danny doesn’t let go."
Love this, especially as one of the moments from a previous chapter that really stuck out to me was in chapter 7 after they woke up in the same bed with Danny remarking "but he’s so very rarely warm. He’s forgotten how much he missed it, how much the human body craves comfort." Tims warmth is one of the things that I feel really stick with Danny.

And we are back! Time sure does seem to be flying by. Not much to say this time around TBH, but thank you all so much for giving this a listen! This has been such a fun project for me to start working on while dealing with some major burnout at my day job, and it's been super neet starting to get involved in the podficking community! ya know, the issue with having recorded and edited chapters sometimes weeks prior (this one was 2) is that I don't always remember what my favorite line was. I have started actually writing it down as I record, but alas, that was a practice I started in chapter 25. and this one is 24.
so uhh, instead of favorite line, this time were just gunna go with a part I really liked, and that would be the Vampire possum.

finished this this morning, as part of my goals while job hunting also includes either recording a thing, or editing a thing each day so I'm taking time to do things I enjoy, and I've still got quite a few chapters I recorded way back in January (how was that only a month ago.... annnnnnnd heres the chapter. I got most of it edited yesterday but didn't quite finish. and let me tell ya, I had such a hard time with voices in this chapter. First was Constantine who I cant get to sound like I think he ought to, cause I think he should have a cockney accent. That is an accent I don't have the ability to end up in the vicinity of. I have the blooper for that if anyone wants it. Then, Tim really wanted to veer British for this chapter (mainly cause Constantine) but yeah, this is the last of the chapters I have recorded since February. Ive got a bit of the next chapter recorded, but my voice has not been playing nice with me this past week, so hopefully, I'll be able to get the next chapter recorded Monday and then edited and posted Tuesday.
I finally figured out why I sometimes very much do not like how I voice Tim despite for the most part thinking how I voice him in this fic does a lot to indicate character and shit (most of the time I do like it, sometimes it just hits my brain wrong) and that's cause as much gender euphoria as the voice I gave Danny does (a voice I have kinda started yoinking for my every day voice), the voice I do for Tim gives me the opisit feeling sometimes. weird how that works out.
Fave Line: “Ohhhhh, my god.”` Tim says, sliding down between two cargo containers as soon as he gets around the corner and out of sight. Danny is laughing on the other end of the line.
- I just love the embarrassment of family teasing over a crush/partner. It brings back the memories.
