Chapter Text

“No!” Mafuyu screamed in terror, sitting up in her bedroom alone as tears rushed down her cheeks.

Her cries poured out of her chest as she tugged on her shirt, falling back in her bed as she grieved her lover. Behind her eyelids, Kanade had fallen dead to the ground, body cold and heart no longer beating. Her composer's dear heart no longer produced Mafuyu's favorite melody of all time: her heartbeat.

It was like she had just found a spark of warmth in this cold, unforgiving world, and it was ripped away from her cruelly, leaving her all alone again.

“Mafuyu…?” She jolted, her heart pounding loudly in her chest as she shivered against her pillow, heaving in heavy breaths as she tugged on the only item she had close to her for comfort. She didn't want to be awake right now. She wanted this all to be a sick, sick dream.

“Mafuyu? Are you okay?”

She stayed frozen and was unable to process anything. She was sure she saw Kanade’s lifeless body. She felt it in her arms.

It was so cold, colder than anything she’d felt in her ice-daggered, stormy, and abandoned life.

“Mafuyu?!”

A warm hand was placed over her arm, and this softness started seeping into her skin as she managed to peek away from her pillow finally. The soft blue hues met hers, and warmth exploded behind her eyelids as she pushed herself up desperately to embrace the girl in her arms.

Sobs were tearing out of her painfully as she cried out loud into her lover's arm, fearing the coldness would still be present in her lifeless body; however, instead, she felt Kanade's heartbeat against hers, Kanade's warms melting in her arms, and it made her cry out in relief.

“What's the matter-“ The younger girl asked worriedly before she gasped as she was enveloped in the tightest, most painful of hugs. The composer gulped in worry, but she allowed her hands to wrap around her love's back, holding her securely. "You're okay, Mafuyu... It's okay..."

The lyricist wrapped her arms around her back so tightly, nails digging into Kanade’s back as she pulled the girl into her lap, holding her against her body as she cried into her shoulder.

“I'm sorry, I'm sorry!” Mafuyu sobbed, shaking her head against Kanade's collarbone, allowing her tears to be soaked up into her lover's warm body, "Kanade, please, I can’t please—don't leave me again, please.”

“Mafuyu?!” Kanade shuddered in response, trying to breathe properly as Mafuyu squeezed her tighter than before, body pressing against hers painfully. Their ribs rubbed against each other agonizingly as the lyricist squeezed her against her chest tighter. The composer let out a whimper when it started to get a little harder to breathe, and finally, Mafuyu was jolted in realization.

“I’m sorry.” The taller girl loosened the hug but did not let go of her lover. “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you sorry?” Kanade frowned, hands clinging to her shoulders. She held Mafuyu gently, rocking her from side to side as she sat more properly on her lap to console her, “You’re okay, it's okay. It didn't hurt.”

That’s a lie; it was probably bruised by now, but it didn’t matter to the composer as her girl leaned onto her. She was happy her girlfriend found comfort in her, and she was going to ensure she held onto her until all her pain and worry disappeared,

Mafuyu took a shuddered breath, fingers sliding under Kanade’s thighs before hoisting the girl against her. She leaned back against the headboard, fingers digging into Kanade's warm skin as she gripped onto her tightly.

In response, Kanade straddled Mafuyu more securely, arms wrapped around her toned waist, while she securely held her lover in her arms, snuggling into her. Mafuyu inhaled her scent, squeezed her sides, and let her exist safely within her arms.

She lowered her fingers, letting them dance up her thighs and into her hips, firmly squeezing them. Mafuyu reached for the jacket, unzipping it quickly and throwing it away so that she could lean down to place her head on Kanade’s bare shoulder.

The elder girl enjoyed the warmth of Kanade's body, nuzzling her head closer to her neck before nosed at her nape, letting her lover's scent into her chest, before placing a soft kiss there against her pulse.

Kanade remained quiet and compliant, letting Mafuyu do whatever she needed to relax and comfort herself.

“C-can we…” She choked up, sniffling before she leaned up to kiss her desperately. “Please.”

She was begging, eyes glassy and needy, and Kanade nodded gently, her hues gleaming with the comfort and softness Mafuyu just wished she could drown in and lay safely in forever. “I don’t know what you need, Mafuyu, but whatever it is, I’ll give it to you. Whatever you need, I’m here for you.”

“I want to feel you, all of you.” The purplenette weakly murmured, “I want to feel you alive, I want to hear you breathing, I want to feel your heart beating against mine…”

“Alright,” Kanade murmured softly, cradling Mafuyu's cheek before leaning forward to kiss her softly.

The younger girl then leaned back slightly, taking off her shirt and shorts, leaving her in her cozy undergarment. As Mafuyu was about to reach for her own, Kanade stopped her with a gentle smile.

“Let me do it for you, let me care for you.” And with that, Mafuyu’s shirt and pants came off as well, leaving her in her own undergarment before she engulfed Kanade in a hug as they laid down in their bed, their comforter hiding their love away from the world as they shared their love and this secret between them.

Feeling their stomachs pressed together, arms and shoulders crossed against each other, legs tangled in a love maze of their own.

Tranquility danced in the air, weaving a soft melody filled with their whispers and secret kisses.

Every kiss Kanade stole from her felt like a new life bloomed within her, and with every inch of skin she traced against her warm skin, she fell deeper in love.

“I love you,” Kanade murmured, kissing her head.

“My love.” She whispered, bringing one of Mafuyu’s hands up to her lips before kissing her knuckles.

“I’ll always be here with you.” She hummed against the soft skin of Mafuyu’s neck before pulling back. Her eyes widened when she saw Mafuyu’s eyes tear up, and she panicked.

“I- I’m sorry! Did I go-“

Kiss.

Mafuyu shushed her with a kiss, and lips pressed against hers desperately as she took Kanade’s breath away greedily.

“No, you’re perfect,” Mafuyu replied reassuringly.

“Mafuyu… then?”

“I…” She gulped, trying to swallow back tears. But her lover never let her conceal her emotions.

Kanade always loved all of Mafuyu's emotions: the beautiful, the ugly, the sad, the happy, the fake, and the real ones. All of them are what made Mafuyu who she is to Kanade, and she never wanted her to change who she is for anyone. She'd always told her that even what Mafuyu had thought as her 'ugly' emotions were never ugly to Kanade.

“Tell me, Mafuyu, don’t hide it from me.” Kanade cooed softly, lowering her head to place the softest of kisses on Mafuyu's eyelid. “Let it all out, and you're with me, I got you, I’m here for you. You’re safe in my arms, Mafuyu, no one will see and judge you, it’s only us.”

Mafuyu nodded, sniffling weakly before a squeezed any remaining tears out before whimpering, “Kanade-I... I had a bad dream.”

“What was it, sweetheart?” She murmured, stroking Mafuyu’s nape sweetly. Mafuyu melted at the nickname, one she’d always been fond of but shy to ask for, shy to use in the outside world.

This was something only for them, in the safety of their home, in the security of their own haven.

“In my dream... you died.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah.” Mafuyu shuddered, biting down a smile at Kanade’s shocked expression before it was replaced with a sad smile, “My mom... kind of killed you.”

“Woah,” The shorter girl murmured, seemingly confused, surprised, and shocked... bewildered even but still nodding in understanding, trying to be supportive. "Well, uh- I’m not... dead?”

She stared into Mafuyu’s eyes; they were all soft and pliant yet so serious. Oh. She was dead serious.

Kanade bit her lip nervously, trying to comfort her, "I'm okay, we both are. We are both safe here, okay? So now, let me hold you and take care of you, okay?"

The elder girl snuggled into the shorter girl eagerly, her head resting on her chest so she could hear her heart pounding.

“My darling…” Kanade murmured softly, kissing Mafuyu's temple softly. “I love you…”

“Hmm…” Mafuyu whined, happily indulging in the affection.

This unconditional love she always thought she did not receive, she was getting pampered in now, drowned in it.

“My sweetheart…” Kanade giggled, flushing herself as she murmured these gentle terms into Mafuyu's skin, sealing each word of affection and hum of love with a kiss.

She wanted to store all the love overflowing in her heart right where it belongs in Mafuyu's body. She wanted to litter this love on every inch of Mafuyu’s skin to let her know she was loved from head to toe, for who she were and, who she was, and whoever she wanted to be.

Unused to the affection, Mafuyu stilled in Kanade’s arms. It wasn't like the composer to be so direct with her words, but the color of the night seemed to have awoken the hidden courage and buried secrets in Kanade’s heart, enticing her to let out all the love for Mafuyu that she had been holding back onto.

She hoisted her body upwards, warning her to lay her head right on Kanade's chest to listen to her love’s heartbeat. She wanted to be cradled in her arms, to know she was safe and sound.

Kanade’s heart fluttered at the sight of Mafuyu, lying all small and sweet, curled up in her arms. She smiled as she nuzzled into her neck, letting her arms slip under Mafuyu’s arms so she could hug the girl properly, lowering her head and placing her lips against the crown of Mafuyu’s head before murmuring, “Baby… my baby, aren't you?”

“Kanade…” Mafuyu groaned, hiding her eyes and face in between Kanade’s silky locks. Unable to form words, she placed a shy kiss on the soft expanse of her composer’s neck, relishing in the warmth under her lips. “How do you know these names?”

”Hm.” The musician paused in surprise, before cradling her lover’s head against her chest tightly, whispering softly, “I’ve always heard my mom use them, and ever since I was little, I longed to meet someone I love so much I can share them with.”

“Mafuyu… I love you.” Kanade whispered to her, “With all my heart, I do.”

“Kanade…” The girl in her arms smiled, leaning forward to kiss her, "I love you too."
