Chapter 1: New Best Friend Acquired.

Chapter Text

Diego sighed, sitting at Mia’s hospital bed.
Dahlia…

The hidden variable that Diego despised.
She was the sole reason Mia was this way now.

“You’re still here…?”

A woman came in and petted his hair trying to comfort him.

“Mhm…”

Diego mumbled. Diego almost purred at Lana’s touch.

“It’s not your fault, Diego.”

“Doesn’t make the pain go away…”

Lana sighed and held his hand.

“The pain may never go away.”

Diego leaned against Lana.

“She’s in a coma…”

“It’s better than dead my dear.”

Diego just nodded agreeing. It was taking a toll on both of them.

“You haven’t been taking many clients I’ve heard.”

“It pains me looking and not seeing her…”

“It’s hard on me too. Diego I can’t stand to see you like this. You’re exhausted. If not for yourself at least for me and Mia.”

Diego went quiet for a few moments.

“Fine…”

Lana smiled kissing his head.

“It’ll make you feel better or at least distract you from this, dear.”

“Thank you, Lana.”

“Always.”

It still hurts. It may always hurt like Lana said but he’s trying. That’s all that matters.

Diego looked over and over at the evidence, he was going against the Demon Prosecutor which made making a defense more annoying, the witness would omit at least something. That’s what made it aggravating.

“The dull knife could’ve been used as a makeshift lever for the trap.”

Diego almost jumped at the sudden voice and looked at the man who said it.
Diego then looked at the evidence. The knife was dull to the point it could barely cut even paper, then he looked at the Lever Socket. The shape in it was rather specific…

“Sorry, I know it isn’t my place to help! I’ll be going now.”

Diego’s eyes widened. Whoever this person was, was right.

“No. You’re right.”

Diego set his coffee down.

“Who are you?”

Diego looked at the kid who had some books in his arms.

“Oh! I’m Phoenix Wright!”

“You may have just helped me solve this damned case, kid.”

Phoenix’s eyes slightly brightened.

“I’m happy that I helped then!”

Phoenix started leaving before Diego packed up his files and grabbed his shoulder.

“How about you help me investigate this?”

“Can I?!”

Phoenix was excited at the thought.

“You’re a law Major right?”

“Minor actually. I’m an Arts Major and study law on the side.”

Diego’s eyes widened at it. He’s definitely keeping this kid.

“That makes it better, you’re coming with me to investigate.”

There were practically stars in Phoenix’s eyes and he quickly checked out the books and put them in his bag and followed Diego.

While they investigated Phoenix would give his output on things every so often.

“This actually might be starting to make sense…”

Diego mumbled and heard clicks on the kitchen floor and looked up.

“Lana.”

“Diego. I see you have a co counsel.”

Phoenix tilted his head.

“Ah, Phoenix, this is Lana Skye, one of my girlfriends and the Chief Prosecutor.”

“Nice to meet you! I’m Phoenix Wright!”

Lana covered her mouth with her hand in shock and looked at Diego

“He’s adorable, where did you find him? And can I take turns having him?”

Phoenix just laughed at this a bit.

“Would you believe I was in the library looking over the case and he gave his output that actually made the case make more sense than before?”

“I’m an art major!”

“What art?”

Phoenix just laughed without answering.

“Quite the co-counsel you’ve found Diego. He should meet my sister sometime.”

Diego looked horrified.

“You will create something none of us can stop Lana.”

Lana just smiled

“I think they’d get along.”

“HEY MR ARMANDO? MS SKYE?”

Phoenix shouted to them, the two turning to him.

“Sorry for yelling, I think I may have found something.”

Both lawyers went to Phoenix.

“There’s a bullet.”

Lana hummed

“There wasn’t a gun given as evidence…”

“I don’t know much about guns but this doesn’t look like one from a standard handgun”

Lana yelled out for the forensics to have the bullet and what gun it may have been from.

Phoenix got up from crouching, he looked around.

“Phoenix?”

“I could replicate this.”

They looked at Phoenix.

“I could draw it before the murder…”

“You could?”

Phoenix nodded

“It’d be annoying, sure but I can do it. I'd need to be here for a bit though.”

Lana and Diego looked at each other.

“I’ll see what I can do.”

“I need to investigate a bit more to see if anything’s been missed.”

“Okay!”

Phoenix started recreating the room before the murder in a drawing.

After about an hour or two Phoenix had finished recreating it, by then it was time for the trial.

“I’ll be watching from the Galley!”

“What are you talking about? You helped me investigate, you’re going to be my Co Counsel.”

“Oh! Okay!”

Diego ruffled his hair, Phoenix, not bothered by it, laughed and fixed his hair before going into the courtroom.

They went into the courtroom… Phoenix recognized the prosecution immediately. How could he not after all?

The Prosecutor and Phoenix stared wide-eyed at each other like saying ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!’

As the trial began Diego gave his defense and talked with his co counsel.

“You know him?”

“Know him would be a bit of an understatement Mr Armando… I’ll tell you after the trial.”

After a while of debating, Phoenix thought about the witness’ testimony…

‘She said she saw horns… From what…?’

“Excuse me for interrupting but Miss Calme?”

The girl looked at Phoenix.

“Yes, pretty boy?”

Diego swore he must have been seeing things. Edgeworth somehow got pissed off for some reason. Phoenix slightly got flustered by the compliment.

“You said you saw horns? From where did you see these horns?”

Calme closed her eyes in thought.

‘The fact she’s thinking hard about this says a lot.’

“It must have been from their hair!”

Phoenix squinted at the woman.

“Ms. Outier, please tell us who you saw.”

Edgeworth sounded pissed. Okay, good.
Diego wasn’t seeing things then.

“A… Woman with hair horns! She was pushing his head in I’m sure! I promise!”

“See? This woman couldn’t have been-”

OBJECTION!”

Phoenix slammed the table shouting.

“Sorry but wrong Miles. Our client isn’t a male yes, but they’re also not female either! The witness is unsurprisingly… LYING!”

The looks on Edgeworth’s face said everything.
He knew he was fucked.

Lana was looking from the Galley and looked surprised as well.

“And even then, they have short hair! Their hair isn’t long enough to have hair horns as you describe it! Admit it. You never saw Mx. Ash.”

The woman struggled slightly and pulled her hair in annoyance.

“N-Now why would I need to l-lie?”

“Why else? To cover up what you did!”

Edgeworth drew attention to him.

“The weapon in question has none of Ms. Outier’s fingerprints, how do you explain that Phoenix?”

“I thought you’d never ask!”

Phoenix grinned and Diego slowly moved to the Co counsel desk as Phoenix took the Lawyer position.

‘I think I got myself out of a job…’

Phoenix pulled out a paper grinning…

“You wouldn’t…”

Miles looked at Phoenix in fear. Diego was confused.
Phoenix had an unhingedness to his eyes.

“Oh my dear Miles Edgeworth… You fool… THANKS TO THIS UPDATED AUTOPSY REPORT- WE KNOW HE WAS ONLY BASHED POST MORTEM!”

Diego looked at Phoenix shocked. Where in the world had he gotten that?

“Damn you…”

Phoenix laughed

“He was killed by getting shot and the bullet used to kill him wasn’t from a handgun… It was from a gun only our dear witness, Miss Calme has!”

Phoenix slammed a paper proving what guns Calme possessed.
Calme on the other hand freaked out by the proof that was proving her to be the killer. She pulled her hair repeating it was her and she was innocent. She eventually pulled her hair out… Bailiff taking her away.

Phoenix walked into the defense lobby Ash thanked both him and Diego a lot.

“It’s just our job, kid.”

Phoenix smiled

“I have to go before someone starts planning my death!”

“You were good out there Phoenix.”

As Phoenix was about to leave he smiled.

“Thanks, Mr. Armando!”

He’d have to teach him to just call him Diego soon. He wasn’t that old.
Phoenix ran out the doors and ran out the courthouse avoiding someone wearing burgundy. Laughing while running from the Prosecutor who’s tried to catch him countless times and never has succeeded.

Lana saw while Edgeworth stopped.

“Damn it Phoenix…”

“Do you know him, Prosecutor Edgeworth?”

Edgeworth glanced at Skye and went on to try and catch Phoenix.
Lana chuckled as Diego approached her.

“Hello dear.”

“Lana, it’s not just me right?”

“It’s not. They do know each other. Prosecutor Edgeworth hates it when anyone uses his full name, nonetheless his first name.”

“He got angry when Ms. Outier called Phoenix Pretty boy.”

“Oh? How interesting. Seems like we’ve got quite the drama on our hands.”

“I will have to say, the look on the Brat’s face when Phoenix presented that updated autopsy was everything”

“That we can agree on.”

The two laughed as they walked out of the courthouse…
