Work Text:
Eloise Mintumble was an Unspeakable who was very good if she said so herself. She worked hard at her schooling and got an O in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Arithmancy, Divination, Ancient runes, and Alchemy. A very brilliant witch indeed.
So there was no question that she would be chosen to undergo the very important mission in 1402. Eloise worked hard to be in the position she was in today and she earned everything that was coming her way. Of course, she would take this mission and do an amazing job, after all, what on earth could go wrong.
St Mungo's was in a panic, a woman was rushed in whose body was aged considerably. She looked to be at least a few centuries old, and it was a miracle she was even breathing. Witches and Wizards rushed around the hospital trying to do everything they could to help her.
A young wizard was grabbed by the arm by the woman. Her decrepit fingers wrapped around him with a strength she shouldn't have been able to possess. He didn't dare to move, scared that if he tugged too hard her fingers would come right off and turn to dust onto the floor.
The old woman was muttering, and he leaned further in to hear her better. "The... where... it" She whispered in a faint voice, and he only heard every other word. The wizard's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "I'm sorry miss," He said. "What?"
"Where...... is.... the.... journal?"
The young man leaned back and shook his head sadly at the woman. " I'm sorry miss," he said again, "There wasn't anything found on you." The words served little comfort to her. She began to shake violently and attempted to get off the bed. As she moved, her skin started to slip away from her, and a rotting smell began to fill the room.
"NO NO NO!" she shouted. The sudden change in the woman's tone caused everyone in the room to jump. Just as quickly the room quieted leaving behind only the muttering of the healers in the room who were trying their best to put this old woman back together again.
"WHERE IS THE JOURNAL?"
II
"John, what are you doing?"
John Marston stood from his full height from where he was kneeling in a general store found in Blackwater and scowled. " I ain't doing nothing," he said turning to fully look at Hosea.
"Really" Hosea raised an eyebrow, "Because it looks like you're taking a good look at this journal right there unless you suddenly developed a need to be a great author, I highly doubt that it is for you." Hosea walked closer to John and grabbed the journal he was staring at.
It was such a nice diary, the leather smooth and dark, with little gold stitches in the corners, and words embossed on the back. Opening it up Hosea saw that the pages were creamy and thick.
"I think this belongs to someone son," Hosea stated and John huffed.
"If it belonged to someone then it wouldn't be getting sold in a general store now would it." John looked at Hosea as he gazed back knowingly. John wasn't looking at a nice journal for himself after all. "Well are you going to get it then, I think he would like it. I'm sure he used up the old one by now." John looked down at the journal and then back at Hosea "If it's so nice, you buy it then. I don't care about what he would want." John huffed and turned on his heel to stalk out of the door. Hosea watched him go and rolled his eyes, taking the journal with him he walked to the cashier and bought it.
"Find everything alright sir?" the clerk asked politely.
"Yeah, it went just fine. Just word of advice don't have any children, they can be much of a hassle."
The cashier chuckled. "It's a bit too late for that my kind sir. I've got 4 daughters already."
"Well with any luck my good man, they will all be smarter than a son."
Hosea walked out of the store and over to the saloon that was a little ways away from the general store. Standing outside of it was Arthur Morgan, his other son. Arthur was standing there patting his horse Boadicea. Boadicea was a very large horse but the way she was trying to shove her face into Arthur's chest, you would think she was a lapdog. Hosea walked closer to where Arthur was standing and handed him the journal.
"Here," Hosea said as he shoved the new journal into Arthur's chest. Boadicea let out a snort as she was forced away from her position. Arthur looked down in confusion to see the new journal. " You must be going senile old man," he moved his hand to fully grab the journal from Hosea, " I already got one."
Hosea rolled his eyes, " I know that already just like how I know you're about to run out of pages for that journal pretty soon. John bought it for you." The mention of John sent a scowl to Arthur's face. "And why would I want a journal from little Marston."
Hosea snorted, " Why would you indeed?" Hosea didn't wait for an answer and walked away. "Come on now ya lump we got work to do."
Arthur looked down at the journal again flipping it over to look at the back. "Tom Riddle huh," he let out a sigh, " Well I guess I'll keep it. Wouldn't want to waste paper." Arthur put the journal next to his and moved to follow Hosea. " Wait up old man!"
